It would appear that Aston Villa could be one of many teams to benefit from what’s expected to be a fire sale or two at Old Trafford in 2024.

The Manchester Evening News report that there will be a clear out of players next year which is expected to reach double figures.

Whilst that would appear to be a little drastic on the face of it, desperate times call for desperate measures, and there’s no getting away from the fact that the Red Devils have been pretty desperate on and off the pitch for the most part of 2023/24.

One player that’s almost certain to be sent packing as soon as the January transfer window opens for business is Jadon Sancho.

Ever since he decided to take to social media to suggest that his manager, Erik ten Hag, had lied about the reasons why he was being left out, Sancho has been persona non grata at the Old Trafford outfit.

Transfer expert, Dean Jones, believes that Villa Park could well be the player’s next destination, should he stay in England.

“It doesn’t feel like the sort of one that Tottenham are going to be looking for in the January window, from what I can tell at this stage, so I wouldn’t necessarily expect them to need to come back in for Jadon Sancho in a moment like that unless an easy loan or a really cheap deal opened up,” he told GiveMeSport earlier this season.

“Aston Villa, I’d say, is probably a bit more reasonable. We know that they’re going to be on the lookout again, for a player of that type, so I’d say that’s very plausible.

“But the big question for Jadon Sancho will be whether he even has a future within the Premier League or he needs to go back abroad again. I think that’s going to be the first thing that he has to address.”

Unai Emery won’t suffer fools gladly either and is known for his high-intensity work ethic, so whether Sancho is the right fit or not is a moot point at this stage.

talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Manchester United star Jadon Sancho needs to leave, claiming “it’s not worked, he needs to go and get a fresh start”.

Agbonlahor made the point that by Sancho not apologising to ten Hag, he has already made the decision that he will leave the club.

He went on to make the point that Sancho is still only 23-years-old, suggesting he should go and try a different league, as these are supposed to be his “best years”.

Sancho has only made three appearances this campaign for Manchester United, only totalling 76 minutes across those three games.

He hasn’t featured in the side since his argument with Erik ten Hag, of which he refused to apologise and has since been away from the first team.

Last campaign Sancho made 41 appearances for United in all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in 2,432 minutes.

Many think the 23-year-old could leave in the January transfer window, as he seeks a move to restart his career and get back to his best.

Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has provided and exclusive update on two Manchester united players ahead of January.

Two players perhaps facing a bit of an uncertain future at Old Trafford are Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial, though it’s not yet entirely clear what will be happening with either player.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing column, Romano explained that Sancho remains on Juventus’ list of targets for January, though there has been no further development since he reported that they’d asked for information on the potential conditions of the deal.

The England international will surely leave Man Utd after a lack of playing time, but we’ll have to see if it’s Juve he ends up at, or somewhere else, while there’s nothing currently happening with another out-of-favour player, Anthony Martial.

Jadon Sancho in action for Manchester United

The Frenchman could leave the Red Devils for the right price, according to Romano, though the club would also be happy to keep him if no one does come in with the kind of offer what would be hard to turn down.

“I recently revealed that Juventus asked for information on Jadon Sancho as they consider a loan move for January, but I’m afraid fans asking me for updates since then are going to be disappointed because I don’t have anything just yet,” Romano said.

“I don’t expect much to change very soon either because the key point with United right now is there will likely be changes to the board under Sir Jim Ratcliffe, so it will take some time to decide what to do. Juve are still there, though, waiting to understand the conditions of a potential January deal.

“Anthony Martial is another player fans have been keen to understand more about ahead of January, and from what I’m told he remains part of the rotation under Erik ten Hag, he’s not out of the project.

“Martial, like some other player at United, remains on the same list: if they receive an important proposal, he could leave. Otherwise, they’re happy to keep him as part of rotations.”

Manchester United will look to reinforce their squad in the winter transfer window after a disappointing start to the new season.

The Red Devils are looking to cash in on Jadon Sancho in January according to a report by Football Insider. His departure could raise significant funds.

Sancho joined United back in the summer of 2021 for a fee of £73 million from Borussia Dortmund. He was expected to be the next big star for the Red Devils but things haven’t gone according to plan for him.

The 23-year-old has featured in over 80 matches since making the move and he only has 18 goal contributions. Things have gone from bad to worse for the England international since the arrival of Erik ten Hag at the club.

Sancho has gone down the pecking order since the Dutch boss took over and at the very start of the ongoing season, he had a public rift with Ten Hag. Following this he has been exiled from the first team. His departure in the winter window is a certainty according to the report.

While Sancho has been out of action for the past few months and hasn’t been training with the first team, United still expected to cash in on him in the winter. The Red Devils feel they can make big money from his potential sale and it will also help them get the £250,000-a-week player off their books.

Italian giants Juventus, Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund and clubs from the Saudi Pro League are all interested in the 23-year-old. As a result, the Manchester-based club are confident of recouping a big part of what they had invested in signing him. His departure will help them reinvest the money into their squad, something that is the need of the time given their recent performances.

The Jadon Sancho situation at Man United is the gift that keeps on giving.

Believed to be something that has split the dressing room down the middle, the lack of an apology from the player after he questioned his manager’s reasons for dropping him via social media has led to an impasse that shows no sign of easing.

Erik ten Hag, as he did with Cristiano Ronaldo, has taken a hard line when it comes to player co-operation and behaviour, with anyone falling below the standards expected simply being cast aside.

The Dutchman hasn’t yet earned the respect that, for example, Sir Alex Ferguson did at Old Trafford, and making such decisions will always leave room for push back.

Jadon Sancho to Juventus?

Nobody dared argue with Sir Alex, however, his record spoke for itself, and player power wasn’t necessarily as widespread as it is these days.

In any event, the Red Devils could well be making a decision which will affect Sancho significantly.

Thought to be virtually out the door when the January transfer window opens for business, ESPN report that United aren’t letting Sancho go on the cheap.

Borussia Dortmund and Juventus are credited with an interest, however, they and others are unlikely to pay anything like the £73m (Sky Sports) that United spent in the first place.

Unless the club are prepared to cut or write off their losses, they’ll be left with an extremely angry young man stuck in a footballing no man’s land and which benefits no one.

Aston Villa have emerged as a surprise Premier League club to join the race to sign Man United’s Jadon Sancho in January as the winger is expected to leave Old Trafford.

Signed for £75m in the summer of 2021, Sancho has not lived up to expectations at Man United and is currently in the middle of a feud with manager Erik ten Hag.

The 23-year-old is training with United’s reserve team at the club’s Carrington training ground and is set to leave the Manchester club in January.

Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and clubs in Saudi Arabia are all interested in the Red Devils’ star but Aston Villa could get in and amongst the race, reports the Birmingham Mail.

Reports in the summer stated Villa were one of several clubs to register an interest in Sancho and this would be a surprise move for the winger to make.

On the other hand, Sancho’s past behaviour indicates that he is a disruptive character and Unai Emery will not want that within his squad as Villa are a club on the way up under the Spaniard.

The future of Jadon Sancho at Man United looks very bleak and the winger is expected to leave the Premier League giants in January following his fallout with Erik ten Hag.

The United manager has cast the Englishman aside following the 23-year-old’s actions after the Red Devils were defeated by Arsenal in early September, actions the player is yet to apologise for.

Having been left out of the squad for the match in North London by Ten Hag for not training up to standards, Sancho essentially labelled his manager a liar and that did not go down well.

Many reports state that Sancho will leave the Premier League club in January but according to the Daily Express, potential new Manchester United co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is reportedly set to demand that Ten Hag offer an olive branch to Sancho.

This is very unlikely to happen as the situation has gone too far for Ten Hag to reintegrate Sancho back into his squad.

The winger will certainly leave Old Trafford in January but where he goes remains uncertain at present.

Jadon Sancho to Juventus exclusive update

I want to start today’s column with an exclusive update on the future of Jadon Sancho. As we know, the situation has been really complicated for the last two months – between Sancho and Manchester United, the people at the club, the coaching staff and obviously Erik ten Hag.

I can confirm again, as I’ve said in recent weeks, that Sancho is expected to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window – that’s the idea. There have been many rumours about clubs, but now I can tell you that Juventus made contact in recent days to be informed on the Sancho situation.

Juve appreciate the player and think he could be a good opportunity on the market, but because of their financial situation, the only way to make it happen is a loan deal. The salary is an important one, so Juventus would need United to cover part of that salary.

To be clear, at the moment it’s not even a negotiation, just Juventus asking for information on the situation Sancho, so let’s see what happens because for United the best thing to do is to wait and see if other clubs join the race. We’ve had many rumours about a return to Borussia Dortmund, and interest from Saudi clubs, and for United it makes sense to sell the player rather than loan him out. Still, in case they can’t do that, keep an eye on a loan deal and keep an eye on Juventus.

Juve director Cristiano Giuntoli was in London almost two weeks ago, and there have been rumours about players like Kalvin Phillips and Thomas Partey, but from what I understand these players are not a priority. Sancho, however, is an opportunity, and they’ve had initial conversations, but it will depend on United, on the salary coverage, and if they’re open to a loan deal or not.

From my perspective, I think Juventus would be a very good move for Sancho. They can offer space, new motivation, and a chance to fight for the title as they’re doing very well in Italy this season. Sancho certainly needs to leave and play regular football, so this looks a good option for him, but at the same time I think United will wait for permanent deal proposals, so that’s a potential issue.

Aaron Ramsdale’s exit a possibility, but Chelsea aren’t in for him

I think it’s a possibility that Aaron Ramsdale could leave Arsenal in January because he’s not playing, but it’s not something guaranteed at all. When I speak to my sources on this situation, I’m always told that the goalkeeper market is not easy at all, because it’s kind of a domino effect – at the moment we’re not seeing this kind of effect because clubs don’t tend to change their goalkeeper in the middle of the season.

At the moment the situation is really quiet, but perhaps things could change if there’s an injury somewhere or something like that. For sure Ramsdale wants to play more, but he’s also prepared to fight for his place at Arsenal in case he stays there. I can also guarantee that Ramsdale is not a target for Chelsea, and they’re not going to sign a goalkeeper in January, despite some speculation and links with Ramsdale.

The latest on Manchester United’s CB situation

As previously reported, the message on Raphael Varane remains very clear – it’s a tactical decision for him not to start games for Manchester United at the moment. Erik ten Hag is very happy with Harry Maguire at the moment, with how he’s playing, with his mentality, and also Jonny Evans has partnered him well.

Still, with Evans now injured I’m sure we’ll see Varane getting more playing time. It’s about rotation, though of course if they receive an important proposal in January the situation could change for Varane. At the moment I’m not aware of any negotiation, but if something happens it could be an open situation in January.

We know that in 2024 a top priority for United is a new centre-back, but whether it’ll be January or the summer will depend on opportunities. Many of the names I’ve mentioned on here multiple times like Edmond Tapsoba and Jean-Clair Todibo are important players for their clubs, so are unlikely to move in the middle of the season. If there are other opportunities, we will see, but otherwise it will be in the summer that we see an important defender targeted for United.

Santiago Gimenez to Tottenham or Chelsea?

Chelsea know the situation well, that Gimenez could be available for around €45m in January, but at the moment nothing concrete is ongoing, but I’ll keep you posted if the situation changes. It’s also important to say that Tottenham keep following the player, so that could be one to watch as it looks like Gimenez could be an important player on the market in the near future.

Also on Spurs, we know they have some injuries in defence at the moment, but they are not desperate to sign cover. It will depend on opportunities. They’ve been unlucky because they’ve had a lot of injuries at the same time, but I’m told they won’t panic because they know most of these players will be back at the end of December, so they’ll assess the situation then.

Overall, I don’t see Tottenham spending crazy money in January, that’s not the plan at the moment. They’re happy with the balance in the squad right now, but of course the recovery process of some key players will be important, so perhaps they could look for opportunities towards the end of the January window.

Alphonso Davies and Real Madrid’s transfer plans

Alphonso Davies to Real Madrid is a possibility. It’s worth remembering that his situation is quite special because he was very close to signing a new long-term deal at Bayern, it was almost done back in March/April, but then everything at Bayern changed – Julian Nagelsmann was out, as well as key members of the board such as Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic.

So with a new manager, new director and new CEO, Bayern had to re-start the conversations with Davies. From what I’m hearing at the moment the conversations have not been that positive, so there is a concrete chance for Bayern to sell the player in the summer, because he’s out of contract in 2025 and they don’t want to lose him on a free.

I don’t see anything happening in January, but in the summer it could be different, and for sure Real Madrid appreciate the player. They feel they need a new left-back, and so Davies is on Madrid’s list for the summer.

The private and public message is that Real Madrid won’t sign anyone in January. This is usually how they work – they don’t like to go for signings in the January window unless they really have to because of injuries and so on. They’re happy with their squad, so if the situation remains like this and they don’t have injuries then they won’t do anything in January.

Real Madrid are already planning for the summer – they want Davies, and also Endrick is on his way, so let’s see if they also have other targets for summer 2024.

Ruben Neves wants Premier League return amid Newcastle interest

Newcastle United are not optimistic about their chances of signing Ruben Neves, as it looks like it’s going to be really complicated. Of course I think it’s important to clarify the situation surrounding co-ownership of clubs, and hopefully that’s what this meeting on the 21st will do.

Still, we know Newcastle need a midfielder to cover for the suspended Sandro Tonali. They are still waiting to see what happens on the 21st and what clubs will decide, but they are looking on the midfielder market in any case, though it’s also still important for them to know if they’ll still be in the Champions League, or the Europa League, or even out of Europe altogether.

Newcastle will need to decide what kind of midfielder they want, and how much they’re ready to spend, but Kalvin Phillips could be another option for them. It’s not a negotiation as of today, but it could be an opportunity.

Neves remains a player they really appreciate, Eddie Howe is a big fan, and he has experience in the Premier League. They really like him, and Neves would be open to return to the Premier League, so let’s see what happens. At the moment all parties are waiting.

Jadon Sancho almost certain to leave and Al Hilal will be one to watch

Jadon Sancho is almost certain to leave Manchester United in January. There is both European and Saudi interest.

However, a lot of the European clubs want a ‘try before you buy’ type deal. This means a straight loan, or one with an option. Juventus are the latest club to consider Sancho, as Fabrizio Romano revealed.

Saudi clubs have considered Sancho before, and on September 7th Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq made a superficial enquiry. Manchester United wanted a loan with a £50m obligation to buy and this was out of Ettifaq’s budget.

Al-Hilal could be one to watch for Sancho. Their priority is to replace Neymar during his long-term ACL injury, but not necessarily with a like-for-like profile. They just want a goalscorer. Sancho hasn’t been tempted by a Saudi move in the past, but dealmakers aren’t put off by rejections…

Victor Osimhen and other names who turned down Saudi

This last point was apparent with Victor Osimhen, who was subject of an offer from Al-Hilal last summer. The Nigerian told the Obi One Podcast that every time an offer was turned down another was made and he eventually seriously considered joining.

“I never thought of [leaving in summer] at first,” he said. “But when this huge offer came from [Al-Hilal] it was tempting. It was a big one… I had three meetings and made up my mind to stick with the team.

“In August it was a huge decision for me to take. The more I said no to these people the more they increased their offer. It was literally like ‘wow’… they never gave up until the end of their transfer window.”

Saudi Pro League clubs are still likely to be busier in the summer rather than in January.

Casemiro and Kalvin Phillips are two targets for 2024. Tottenham’s Son remains on the list. He’s been there since last summer, as exclusively revealed last summer. Son has always dismissed links, but dealmakers always knew he wouldn’t leave in 2023.

Neymar, Bobby Firmino and Sadio Mane all turned down initial approaches, yet all three eventually joined the Saudi Pro League and that’s why dealmakers continue to push even with targets that show little or no interest.

Richarlison could also be a name to watch, but multiple Saudi clubs are worried about his age. Al-Ettifaq are one of them. And, of course, Mo Salah remains a big summer target. There’s no guarantee it will be Al-Ittihad who return for the Egyptian. Al-Hilal is also a possibility.

Victor Osimhen or Ivan Toney to Chelsea?

Victor Osimhen has been linked with Chelsea

Osimhen to Saudi is very unlikely now in 2024. Having turned down the Al-Hilal offer, the Nigerian is likely to stay in Europe. He hasn’t agreed a contract with Napoli despite a two-year extension being quite close at points over the summer.

A mid-season move is still relatively unlikely, especially with Napoli well on course to get out of their Champions League group.

Osimhen is keen on a Premier League move and has spoken about how as a kid he owned both a Chelsea and Manchester United shirt, and used to watch Didier Drogba videos on YouTube to try and improve his game.

Chelsea will be looking for an elite striker in 2024. They are prepared to wait until summer if they need to rather than move in January. There are a lot of links with Ivan Toney, but the price Brentford would require in January makes that quite difficult. It could be as high as £80m. And not everyone in Chelsea’s senior leadership or recruitment team feels Toney is the right choice, especially mid-season when he’s gone so long without playing.

Toney wants to stay in London and would welcome an Arsenal or Chelsea offer, but don’t be surprised if the latter keep their powder dry and wait for another name.

Osimhen is undoubtedly an option, and he’ll be (a least a bit) cheaper next summer compared to last. This could also present a scenario where, as with Christopher Nkunku, Chelsea try to pre-sign Osimhen in January for the summer in order to jump ahead of the market.

But right now nothing is advanced because all interested clubs are simply trying to understand what Aurelio De Laurentiis will sell for since last summer he simply wouldn’t engage for anything under €150m. Now he may accept €120m. Plus, with Rudi Garcia outgoing, Osimhen may also take time to assess what life is like under Walter Mazzarri, who is expected to sign a short-term deal.

When to expect a decision from Kylian Mbappe

We may not get clarity on Kylian Mbappe’s future in January. PSG are calm about the situation. They feel like discussions over a renewal will take place in the latter half of the season, after the window closes. They are not braced for a Real Madrid offer mid-season, and Carlo Ancelotti has already ruled out doing January business.

PSG have felt for some time that Mbappe will either renew long-term or renew with a clause allowing him still to be sold this summer. Both options protect the club financially since they allow PSG to get a fee.

But even if Mbappe leaves for free, PSG now feel they won’t lose out financially because Mbappe is prepared to forgo certain payments should he leave without renewing. That means both club and player can focus on football and deal with the specifics of either a renewal or exit later in the season. So there is no pressure or urgency to resolve Mbappe’s future before or during January.

Mbappe is expected to decide based on how the season and project goes at PSG, and that’s why a deep Champions League run is important.

Jadon Sancho is almost certain to leave Manchester United in January following his long exile from the Premier League club’s senior squad.

United manager Erik ten Hag has cast the winger aside following the 23-year-old’s actions after the Red Devils were defeated by Arsenal in early September, actions the Englishman is yet to apologise for.

Having been left out of the squad for the match in North London by Ten Hag for not training up to standards, Sancho essentially labelled his manager a liar and that did not go down well.

With the issue unresolved, the 23-year-old is set to leave Old Trafford in January and there are several clubs interested across the World.

Sancho is set to leave Man United in January

Writing in his exclusive Daily Briefing column for CaughtOffside, transfer expert Ben Jacobs has provided an update on Sancho’s future.

Jacobs states that there is interest in the winger from across Europe but names one club to watch out for.

“Jadon Sancho is almost certain to leave Manchester United in January. There is both European and Saudi interest,” the journalist said.

“However, a lot of the European clubs want a ‘try before you buy’ type deal. This means a straight loan, or one with an option.

“Al-Hilal could be one to watch for Sancho. Their priority is to replace Neymar during his long-term ACL injury, but not necessarily with a like-for-like profile. They just want a goalscorer. Sancho hasn’t been tempted by a Saudi move in the past, but dealmakers aren’t put off by rejections…”
