Saudi Arabian clubs Al-Ettifaq and Al-Ahli are planning another move for Arsenal’s Thomas Partey after failing to land the midfielder during the summer.

The latter pursued the Ghana international amongst other Premier League stars as the Gunners were open to selling the 30-year-old having recruited Declan Rice from West Ham, reported the Daily Mail.

According to Ekrem Konur, Al-Ettifaq and Al-Ahli have revived their interest in Partey and will make a move for the Arsenal star in 2024.

However, the Saudi clubs will not have it their own way as Juventus have been long-term admirers of the Ghanaian midfielder.

According to Foot Mercato, Partey and his representatives have met with Juventus ahead of the January transfer window as they consider a mid-season switch.

The Turin-based side lost Paul Pogba this year to a ban due to a failed drugs test and Partey is the man they want to replace the World Cup winner within their squad.

The 30-year-old’s contract at the Emirates expires in 2025, therefore, selling in 2024 would be the ideal option for Arsenal as the midfielder is not as important to Mikel Arteta as he once was.

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey and his representatives have met with Juventus ahead of the January transfer window.

That is according to Foot Mercato, who reports that the Serie A giants have made their first move in trying to bring the Ghana international to Italy during the upcoming transfer window.

Juve have been long-term admirers of the 30-year-old and were linked with a move for the Arsenal star over the summer, reports the Daily Mail.

The Turin-based side lost Paul Pogba this year to a ban due to a failed drugs test and Partey is the man they want to replace the World Cup winner with in their squad.

Partey was a key member of Mikel Arteta’s side last season but not so much during the current campaign as the Ghana star has missed most of it due to injuries and is still not available until the New Year.

The 30-year-old’s contract at the Emirates expires in 2025, therefore, selling in 2024 would be the ideal option for Arsenal.

It is unlikely Mikel Arteta would sanction a move in January as it is mid-season and he would want a replacement. However, next summer, it is highly likely that the Ghana star will move on from the North London club.

Sir Jim sends a strong message to Man United’s board

It was an historical day at Manchester United because, after 16 years, Richard Arnold left his role as CEO of the club. This huge news can be seen as the first message from Sir Jim Ratcliffe – set to buy a 25% minority stake in the club – to the wider board at the club.

It’s really important to mention that Sir Jim Ratcliffe will have sporting control so will be able to bring people into United, and this is why Patrick Stewart is going to be the interim CEO.

A couple of days ago I told you Jean-Claude Blanc is the favourite to become the new CEO at Manchester United and I can confirm that the discussions are very positive.

Blanc obviously knows the INEOS group very well and is perfectly aligned with their ideas.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is also still waiting for a final decision on the sporting director role with Paul Mitchell the favourite and discussions still ongoing.

Clearly Manchester United will be a work in progress over the next few months.

No contract talks for de Jong until 2024

Also guys, I wanted to clarify something on Frenkie de Jong’s contract because it’s important to say that Barcelona will not be extending any other contracts this year.

Not for the Dutchman, for Ronald Araujo or anyone else. It’s because of Financial Fair Play and so they’re not changing any salaries or any contracts in November and December.

This is the idea so, in 2024, Deco will be in contact with the agents of the players concerned. In fact, he’s already mentioned that he’s speaking to de Jong’s agents and Barça want to keep hold of him for sure.

He’s a crucial player as Laporta said many times, so the discussion will take place but it has to be 2024, not now.

He’s very happy in Barcelona, both with his private life and at the club, and at the moment, the situation is completely quiet around him.

Does Napoli sacking their manager change the position on Victor Osimhen?

Many of you have been asking me about Victor Osimhen in recent days because he mentioned Chelsea and Man United on a recent podcast, saying some friends supported the two teams.

But also guys, Napoli have changed the manager after a horrible beginning of the season for the new coach, Rudi Garcia, and despite them winning the title last season.

Napoli have appointed Walter Mazzarri, the former Watford and Inter manager who was also at Napoli as manager for four years between 2009 and 2013. Now, 10 years later, he’s back with the Partnopei.

The club haven’t changed their position on Osimhen despite only having a manager for the short term, and the club are still not in a position to sell him.

Their priority is to keep the player in January and to push again with the contract extension. Maybe the time to sell him could be in the summer…

In other news…

Casemiro – Currently I’m told it’s still quiet with regards to Saudi Pro League clubs and Casemiro. No concrete proposals or negotiations are taking place. We’ll have to see what happens in the summer, but it depends on a lot of factors including Saudi plans, Man United decisions and more. I think he’s still a very important player, but has just been unlucky with his injuries.

Juventus targets – They always appreciated Domenico Berardi from Sassuolo. He was already a target in August but the negotiation was difficult. Now Jadon Sancho is in the list but Berardi remains a player they really like and appreciate.

I don’t know the exact name of the midfielder that they’re after yet, it’s too early. Kalvin Phillips, Thomas Partey and other names being spoken about are too defensive. Juve actually want an offensive midfielder and it has to be a cheap deal, they’re not spending crazy money. I’d go for Rodrigo de Paul but Atlético Madrid consider him a key player, so not easy at all and also… he won’t come cheap.

Gabriel Moscardo – The cost for interested clubs to sign Moscardo will be around €25m from what I’m told. Chelsea wanted him in August but there was no formal approach to Corinthians. Now, 5-6 clubs from the UK and also Italy are interested, but nothing has been decided or advanced at this stage. For Barça, he’s too expensive as of now.

Nestory Irankunda – Really, all the big European clubs knew this boy very well. UK, German and Spanish clubs sent their scouts multiple times to watch him but credit to Bayern – they were super fast, efficient and concrete in their negotiations to make the deal happen.

The January transfer window could be the most important for a while in the careers of Man City’s Kalvin Phillips and Arsenal’s Thomas Partey.

Both are great midfielders in their own right and both are also struggling for significant game time at their respective clubs.

Phillips, for example, has been handed just 236 minutes of action all season per WhoScored, and whilst Partey’s situation at Arsenal isn’t quite so acute, with Declan Rice ahead of him, the Ghanaian doesn’t appear to be seeing as much first-team action as he would like.

Serie A giants, Juventus, have been linked with the pair, however, Fabrizio Romano has a different take on their situation.

Thomas Partey against Manchester City

“I don’t know the exact name of the midfielder that they’re (Juve) after yet, it’s too early,” he told CaughtOffside for his exclusive Daily Briefing column.

“Kalvin Phillips, Thomas Partey and other names being spoken about are too defensive. Juve actually want an offensive midfielder and it has to be a cheap deal, they’re not spending crazy money.”

That information being accurate, and Romano is normally bang on the money where transfers are concerned, means that both players could still be looking around for gainful employment throughout January.

Phillips needs to get himself a new club if he wants to form part of the England squad at Euro 2024 because, although Gareth Southgate is giving him a free pass now, come to nearer the tournament, and he can’t really justify including the Man City ace at the expense of another player who is turning out for his team more regularly.

Partey’s situation is complicated by the fact that he is likely to be playing in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) during the early part of the new year too.

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has reportedly held talks with his club’s board over January transfer targets, including Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey.

The Ghana international has endured a difficult season at the Emirates Stadium, hardly playing at all so far due to injuries, and it could be that the Gunners will allow him to leave if the right offer comes in this winter.

According to Sky Italia, as cited and translated by Sport Witness, Allegri has had a meeting with the Juve board to discuss Partey and other potential candidates to come in to the club this January, so it seems they’re still keen on the 30-year-old.

Arsenal fans will no doubt have mixed feelings about this, as Partey has been a key player for them in recent years, even if he is a little injury-prone.

Thomas Partey in action for Arsenal

It could be that Arsenal have the chance to replace Partey with Douglas Luiz or Martin Zubimendi in the near future, which could be smart business.

It’s slightly surprising, however, that Juve are willing to consider Partey given his age and poor recent fitness record.

Thomas Partey has been linked with a move away from Arsenal since the start of the new season.

But, the recent injury that he has picked up could hinder his plans of making a move in the winter according to a report by Football Insider.

After a successful stint at Atletico Madrid, Partey joined Arsenal in the summer of 2020. The 30-year-old midfielder has been one of the mainstays of Mikel Arteta’s team over the years. He was a regular until the end of last season.

But, a lot has changed post that, as the Gunners went in and bought Declan Rice in the summer for a club record fee. The England international’s arrival resulted in a lot of talks about the future of the 30-year-old defensive midfielder.

While Partey did feature in the initial games for the north London club, he didn’t get much game time in his usual position. The Ghana international was used as a right-back.

The former Atletico Madrid midfielder was expected to be on the move in the winter transfer window. And, there is a lot of interest in his services. But, his recent injury could jeopardise a January exit.

Partey is all set to be out for a lengthy period of time as he underwent a procedure on a serious thigh injury. With the 30-year-old expected to be out for a while, clubs might not make a move for his services.

If Arsenal fail to cash in on him, they might not be able to make a move for a young defensive midfielder. The Gunners have been linked with Douglas Luiz and Martin Zubimendi but for any of these moves to go through Partey’s departure needs to be ensured.

Losing Thomas Partey for the rest of 2023 will be a blow to Arsenal’s aspirations this season.

Though the Ghanaian has struggled with injuries already in the current campaign, and is arguably behind Declan Rice in the pecking order at the club, to be completely denied his services until at least January means that Mikel Arteta will need to dip into the transfer market.

Partey might also be expected to play for his country at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) too if he’s recovered by the start of the tournament, thereby meaning that it will be February 2024 before he pulls on an Arsenal shirt again in earnest.

The Gunners do have a preferred target in mind, though they’re likely to have a fight on their hands if they try to secure him in the next transfer window.

Transfer specialist and CaughtOffside columnist, Fabrizio Romano, noted that the north Londoners want to sign Aston Villa’s highly-rated Douglas Luiz.

He’s apparently been their favourite option for some time, however, Romano also states that Villa are ambitious themselves and want to keep hold of the Brazilian for the time being.

Any transfer is likely to hinge on the will of the player.

Arsenal may well appeal given how well they’re playing under Mikel Arteta, however, it can’t be forgotten just how much Unai Emery has transformed the Villains.

The player is an integral part of the way Villa do things, and the grass isn’t always greener…

Arsenal will be without the services of Thomas Partey for the rest of 2023 as the midfielder has had a setback in his recovery from his current injury.

That is according to the Mirror, who reports that the Ghana international has undergone a specialist procedure for treatment on his thigh injury and is now set to miss the rest of 2023.

This is a huge setback for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta who is still uncertain of Partey’s exact return date and that may tempt him to move into the market to sign another midfielder when the transfer window opens in January.

Even if Partey can return to action in January, Arsenal will lose him again to the Africa Cup of Nations as Ghana will certainly select him to compete in the competition.

The 30-year-old will be fighting to be back for this tournament but his place in Arteta’s squad could be under threat come the end of January.

Thomas Partey has suffered an injury setback

Partey has missed the majority of this season through injury and even before this latest setback, it was being reported that Arteta and Arsenal were in the market for a new midfielder.

The Gunners have been linked to Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi as the Spaniard is a player the Arsenal manager really likes.

This latest news could spark the North London club to make a move in January but there is a long time to go before the winter window opens.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta still considers Thomas Partey a key part of his first-team plans, despite fresh transfer rumours involving Juventus, according to Fabrizio Romano in his exclusive column for the Daily Briefing.

The Ghana international has had problems with injuries this season, meaning he’s barely featured for the Gunners, though he’s always been one of the team’s most solid and consistent performers when he has been able to get on the pitch.

It seems Arsenal are not currently thinking about letting Partey go, with Romano addressing new links with Juve, who were also interested in the former Atletico Madrid man during the summer transfer window.

“Juventus were interested in Thomas Partey last summer, but then Arsenal decided to keep him,” Romano said.

“I’m not expecting big movements for Thomas in January, I’m told Juventus want more offensive players in midfield than Thomas.

Thomas Partey in action for Arsenal

“And I’m still told Mikel Arteta considers Thomas an important player, despite recent reports from Italy that the Ghana international could look to leave.”

Arsenal fans will surely hope Partey stays and can get back to full fitness as soon as possible, while the team has also suffered with injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Jurrien Timber this season.

If Arteta has a full squad available for the second half of the campaign, this Arsenal side can surely go very far indeed, but if they continue to have these issues it’s going to be a huge uphill challenge to keep up with Manchester City.

Arsenal could be set to lose one of their most experienced players in the January transfer window.

That’s according to a recent report from Italian outlet TuttoMercato Web, who claims midfielder Thomas Partey has already informed Arsenal chiefs he would like to leave the club in the new year.

Losing his place to summer signing Declan Rice, Partey, 30, has become nothing more than a fringe player under Arteta this season.

And unlikely to force his way back into the Spanish manager’s plans, the 30-year-old is now a candidate to leave London in the upcoming transfer window.

Juventus have expressed an interest in signing the former Atletico Madrid man but the midfielder is thought to be keeping his options open amid possible approaches from both Premier League and La Liga clubs.

During his three years at the Emirates, Partey, who has two years left on his deal, has directly contributed to nine goals in 104 games in all competitions.
