Chelsea are reportedly keeping tabs on the Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies.

The 23-year-old Canadian international has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Bundesliga and the Blues are looking to sign the player in the coming months.

However, a report from 90 Min claims that Real Madrid are ahead of the Premier League club in the transfer race. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea can win the race for his signature in the coming months.

The 23-year-old will not only improve Chelsea defensively, he would also add a new dimension to their attack. Davies is exceptional going forward and he can operate as a wing-back as well as a winger. The Canadian international has three assists in 11 Bundesliga appearances this season and he would be a quality acquisition for both Chelsea and Real Madrid.

The opportunity to join the Spanish giants can be hard to turn down for any player and it remains to be seen whether Chelsea can convince the player with a lucrative proposal.

Real Madrid need to add more depth to the left-back department. Ferland Mendy is the only established option at their disposal right now and Davies would be a major upgrade.

Davies has already proven himself in the Bundesliga and the opportunity to test himself in the Spanish League or the Premier League will be an attractive proposition.

Both Chelsea and Real Madrid have a proven track record of competing for major trophies and it will be interesting to see where he ends up. The 23-year-old defender has a contract with the German club until the summer of 2025 and it remains to be seen whether Bayern Munich are prepared to cash in on him in the coming months.

The Premier League is often marketed as the best league in the world, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that everyone wants to play there.

Indeed, for one world-class Bayern Munich star, the sunnier climbs of the Spanish top-flight appears to be more in keeping with his wishes.

All three of Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City are being linked with Alphonso Davies according to 90Min, who also credit Paris Saint-Germain with an interest in the marauding left-back.

At just 23 years of age, the Canadian has a lifetime ahead of him in football terms, though he’s gained significant enough experience already in the Bundesliga to be considered as a veteran of sorts.

That’s perhaps why Real Madrid are, apparently, also keen to secure his services with 90Min saying all three Premier League clubs believe it’s to Los Blancos that Davies will ultimately head.

It’s understandable why he’s so coveted too. Aside from his wealth of experience which is unusual for a player so young, he is brilliant at turning defence into attack at the click of a finger, and is as important to Bayern in an attacking sense as he is defensively.

For Real Madrid supporters brought up on watching Roberto Carlos or Marcelo raiding down the left side, it’ll be manna from heaven should Davies arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu.

What will be interesting to see is the lengths that the Premier League trio will go to in order to get the player to change his mind.

Jadon Sancho to Juventus exclusive update

I want to start today’s column with an exclusive update on the future of Jadon Sancho. As we know, the situation has been really complicated for the last two months – between Sancho and Manchester United, the people at the club, the coaching staff and obviously Erik ten Hag.

I can confirm again, as I’ve said in recent weeks, that Sancho is expected to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window – that’s the idea. There have been many rumours about clubs, but now I can tell you that Juventus made contact in recent days to be informed on the Sancho situation.

Juve appreciate the player and think he could be a good opportunity on the market, but because of their financial situation, the only way to make it happen is a loan deal. The salary is an important one, so Juventus would need United to cover part of that salary.

To be clear, at the moment it’s not even a negotiation, just Juventus asking for information on the situation Sancho, so let’s see what happens because for United the best thing to do is to wait and see if other clubs join the race. We’ve had many rumours about a return to Borussia Dortmund, and interest from Saudi clubs, and for United it makes sense to sell the player rather than loan him out. Still, in case they can’t do that, keep an eye on a loan deal and keep an eye on Juventus.

Juve director Cristiano Giuntoli was in London almost two weeks ago, and there have been rumours about players like Kalvin Phillips and Thomas Partey, but from what I understand these players are not a priority. Sancho, however, is an opportunity, and they’ve had initial conversations, but it will depend on United, on the salary coverage, and if they’re open to a loan deal or not.

From my perspective, I think Juventus would be a very good move for Sancho. They can offer space, new motivation, and a chance to fight for the title as they’re doing very well in Italy this season. Sancho certainly needs to leave and play regular football, so this looks a good option for him, but at the same time I think United will wait for permanent deal proposals, so that’s a potential issue.

Aaron Ramsdale’s exit a possibility, but Chelsea aren’t in for him

I think it’s a possibility that Aaron Ramsdale could leave Arsenal in January because he’s not playing, but it’s not something guaranteed at all. When I speak to my sources on this situation, I’m always told that the goalkeeper market is not easy at all, because it’s kind of a domino effect – at the moment we’re not seeing this kind of effect because clubs don’t tend to change their goalkeeper in the middle of the season.

At the moment the situation is really quiet, but perhaps things could change if there’s an injury somewhere or something like that. For sure Ramsdale wants to play more, but he’s also prepared to fight for his place at Arsenal in case he stays there. I can also guarantee that Ramsdale is not a target for Chelsea, and they’re not going to sign a goalkeeper in January, despite some speculation and links with Ramsdale.

The latest on Manchester United’s CB situation

As previously reported, the message on Raphael Varane remains very clear – it’s a tactical decision for him not to start games for Manchester United at the moment. Erik ten Hag is very happy with Harry Maguire at the moment, with how he’s playing, with his mentality, and also Jonny Evans has partnered him well.

Still, with Evans now injured I’m sure we’ll see Varane getting more playing time. It’s about rotation, though of course if they receive an important proposal in January the situation could change for Varane. At the moment I’m not aware of any negotiation, but if something happens it could be an open situation in January.

We know that in 2024 a top priority for United is a new centre-back, but whether it’ll be January or the summer will depend on opportunities. Many of the names I’ve mentioned on here multiple times like Edmond Tapsoba and Jean-Clair Todibo are important players for their clubs, so are unlikely to move in the middle of the season. If there are other opportunities, we will see, but otherwise it will be in the summer that we see an important defender targeted for United.

Santiago Gimenez to Tottenham or Chelsea?

Chelsea know the situation well, that Gimenez could be available for around €45m in January, but at the moment nothing concrete is ongoing, but I’ll keep you posted if the situation changes. It’s also important to say that Tottenham keep following the player, so that could be one to watch as it looks like Gimenez could be an important player on the market in the near future.

Also on Spurs, we know they have some injuries in defence at the moment, but they are not desperate to sign cover. It will depend on opportunities. They’ve been unlucky because they’ve had a lot of injuries at the same time, but I’m told they won’t panic because they know most of these players will be back at the end of December, so they’ll assess the situation then.

Overall, I don’t see Tottenham spending crazy money in January, that’s not the plan at the moment. They’re happy with the balance in the squad right now, but of course the recovery process of some key players will be important, so perhaps they could look for opportunities towards the end of the January window.

Alphonso Davies and Real Madrid’s transfer plans

Alphonso Davies to Real Madrid is a possibility. It’s worth remembering that his situation is quite special because he was very close to signing a new long-term deal at Bayern, it was almost done back in March/April, but then everything at Bayern changed – Julian Nagelsmann was out, as well as key members of the board such as Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic.

So with a new manager, new director and new CEO, Bayern had to re-start the conversations with Davies. From what I’m hearing at the moment the conversations have not been that positive, so there is a concrete chance for Bayern to sell the player in the summer, because he’s out of contract in 2025 and they don’t want to lose him on a free.

I don’t see anything happening in January, but in the summer it could be different, and for sure Real Madrid appreciate the player. They feel they need a new left-back, and so Davies is on Madrid’s list for the summer.

The private and public message is that Real Madrid won’t sign anyone in January. This is usually how they work – they don’t like to go for signings in the January window unless they really have to because of injuries and so on. They’re happy with their squad, so if the situation remains like this and they don’t have injuries then they won’t do anything in January.

Real Madrid are already planning for the summer – they want Davies, and also Endrick is on his way, so let’s see if they also have other targets for summer 2024.

Ruben Neves wants Premier League return amid Newcastle interest

Newcastle United are not optimistic about their chances of signing Ruben Neves, as it looks like it’s going to be really complicated. Of course I think it’s important to clarify the situation surrounding co-ownership of clubs, and hopefully that’s what this meeting on the 21st will do.

Still, we know Newcastle need a midfielder to cover for the suspended Sandro Tonali. They are still waiting to see what happens on the 21st and what clubs will decide, but they are looking on the midfielder market in any case, though it’s also still important for them to know if they’ll still be in the Champions League, or the Europa League, or even out of Europe altogether.

Newcastle will need to decide what kind of midfielder they want, and how much they’re ready to spend, but Kalvin Phillips could be another option for them. It’s not a negotiation as of today, but it could be an opportunity.

Neves remains a player they really appreciate, Eddie Howe is a big fan, and he has experience in the Premier League. They really like him, and Neves would be open to return to the Premier League, so let’s see what happens. At the moment all parties are waiting.

The agent of Alphonso Davies has shut down the recent rumours that the Bayern Munich star has turned down a new contract as he wants to move to Spain.

According to Madrid outlet AS, the Canada international has already made the decision that he would like to move to the Bernabeu next summer and start a new chapter in his career.

Real Madrid are in need of a left-back and have reportedly intensified talks with Davies’ agent Nedal Huoseh in recent weeks.

However, speaking to Philipp Kessler, Davies’ agent has said that he was surprised by the recent reports from Spain.

Huoseh has stated: “That’s inaccurate. Right now, Phonzy is at Bayern Munich, that’s where his focus is.”

The 23-year-old is out of contract at Bayern Munich in 2025 and if he can’t agree a new deal with the German champions, next summer is the ideal time to sell the full-back.

The full-back has won everything possible with Bundesliga giants and the allure of Real Madrid has been too good to turn down for many players over the years.

Although a decision has yet to be made, a move to the Bernabeu would have many benefits, and Real Madrid will push hard if they really want the player next summer.

Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies wants to play for Real Madrid next season as the left-back is being heavily linked with a move to the Bernabeu.

That is according to AS, who reports that the Canada international has made the decision that he would like to move to Madrid next summer and start a new chapter in his career.

Real Madrid are in need of a left-back and have reportedly intensified talks with Davies’ agent Nedal Huoseh in recent weeks.

Davies has developed into one of the best players in the world in his position ever since he burst onto the scene in 2019.

The full-back has won everything possible with Bayern and the allure of Real Madrid has been too good to turn down for many players over the years.

The Canadian could form a deadly partnership with Vinicius Junior down the Madrid left but it remains to be seen if the La Liga giants can get a deal over the line next summer.

Inside Spain is a weekly instalment brought to you by Football España, providing an insight into all of the major stories coming out of the rich and intense climes of La Liga and beyond.

If they weren’t already, Real Madrid’s miracle victory, by the hand of miracle man, confirmed that Spain, or more accurately Madridistas, are obsessed with Jude Bellingham.

His Clasico brace was confirmation to many in La Liga that perhaps nobody, on form, in the world is better. The 20-year-old’s performance was Cristiano Ronaldo-esque, scoring twice from nothing and swinging the game in their favour. So mature for his age, even his answers about being mature are mature.

It’s been a big week for Los Blancos. Vinicius Junior renewed until 2027, Rodrygo Goes renewed until 2028, and the noise about Kylian Mbappe is growing once more, confidence that they can sign him rising with it. Meanwhile they are lining up a move for Portuguese central defender Goncalo Inacio, according to the latest reports, as well as Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies.

As Barcelona lick their wounds, Ilkay Gundogan’s post-Clasico rant went viral, but Xavi Hernandez told the press that not only were they making a mountain out of a mole hill, but that he agreed with Gundogan. They too are rethinking their transfer strategy though, and will scour the January market for an impossible task: a cheap, quality holding midfielder.

Everything was going swimmingly for Atletico Madrid, with reports that Diego Simeone has agreed to a new contract surfacing early in the week for the form side in La Liga. That was until they ended Las Palmas’ 36-year wait for a home win against them on Friday night, going down 2-1 and missing the chance to go top.

Meanwhile Real Sociedad host Barcelona on Saturday night. Tottenham Hotspur will be watching. Spurs are reportedly scouting midfielder Brais Mendez, who has 10 goal contributions in just 14 games this season, and is being tipped for a return to the Spain team. And in positive news, Nabil Fekir is back in the Real Betis squad, eight months after tearing his ACL.

Bayern Munich reportedly fear Real Madrid could make a move to sign Alphonso Davies at the end of the season.

That’s according to a recent report from 90min, who claims Los Blancos are willing to offload Ferland Mendy as a way to make room for Bayern’s number 19.

Viewed as one of Europe’s most devasting left-backs, Davies, 23, routinely showcases his blistering pace and natural ability to attack his opposition’s flank, and Madrid are thought to be huge admirers.

Looking to capitalise on the Canada international’s current situation, which sees his contract expiring in less than two years’ time, Carlo Ancelotti’s men, who are hopeful the 23-year-old will not extend his stay at the Allianz Arena, are preparing to make their European rivals an offer they may not be able to turn down.

During his five years in Germany, Davies, who signed from the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2019, has directly contributed to 36 goals in 168 games in all competitions.

The exciting full-back, who, according to Capology, earns around £190,000-per week, is currently valued at £61 million (TM).

Chelsea, Real Madrid and other clubs could be in luck as it seems that Alphonso Davies is likely to be offloaded by Bayern Munich.

It seems the Canada international has no intention of signing a new contract at Bayern, so they’re now willing to let him go for around €50million, with Real Madrid seemingly showing the strongest interest at the moment, according to Todo Fichajes.

Los Blancos have often used midfielder Eduardo Camavinga as a makeshift left-back, but Davies is one of the finest players in Europe in that position, so could be a better long-term option.

Chelsea have also recently been mentioned as potential suitors for Davies by 90min, so it will be interesting to see if they are also placed on alert by this latest development.

Alphonso Davies in action for Bayern Munich

The 22-year-old could be a good fit at Stamford Bridge, forming part of this exciting project being built around elite young players, and perhaps offering an upgrade on the likes of Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella.

Bayern fans may be disappointed by this development as Davies has been a key player for them down the years, but it seems he’s now preparing for a new challenge.

The agent of Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies has stated that there is interest in the defender from the Premier League amid links away from the German champions.

The Canada international’s current deal at the Allianz Arena expires in 2025 and the Bundesliga giants are keen to tie the full-back down to a new long-term deal.

Talks over that new contract are on hold at present and that opens the possibility of an exit with so many clubs interested in the 22-year-old.

Speaking to 365 Scores, Davies’ agent Nedal Huoseh has said about the interest in his client: “There is interest from many teams. I’m sure that Real Madrid could be one of the clubs that would like to sign Davies.

“There are several Premier League clubs too, they all want to have one of the best left-backs in the world. We’ll see what happens.”

According to 90min, Man City and Chelsea are being kept informed of Davies’ situation, in addition to Real Madrid.

The Premier League champions have been without a proper left-back since Joao Cancelo lost his place in Pep Guardiola’s side, while the area of the pitch has been a problem in general for Chelsea.

The Canadian would be a superb signing for any club as he is already one of the best in the world in his position and is still only 22.

Jadon Sancho exit a concrete possibility

A lot of you keep asking me for updates on Jadon Sancho, and to be honest the situation is still more or less the same – the only way for Sancho to return to the Manchester United team is to apologise to Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff.

From what I’m hearing, at the moment Borussia Dortmund have not started concrete contacts to bring Sancho back, but it’s still very early. We will see in the next months. There’s no clarity yet on Dortmund’s strategy for January as it also depends on their UCL group outcome.

There are many things to clarify, but one thing is clear for Sancho – apologise, or leave the club in January…FULL STORY HERE
