The 2022 January transfer window saw Ferran Torres depart Man City for Barcelona and the winger has revealed what former manager Pep Guardiola said to him before leaving the Premier League champions.

The Spanish star moved to Catalunya as part of a €55m deal having spent just two seasons with the Manchester club, in which he won the Premier League and EFL Cup.

When Barcelona came calling, Torres wanted the move and the 23-year-old has revealed what Guardiola said to him when he asked to leave City.

Speaking to The Wild Project, the Barcelona star said via Fabrizio Romano: “Pep told me: Barça? I just can’t say no to you. It’s my Barça. My Barça. As long as the clubs can agree, you can leave. Barça is Barça.”

Barcelona star Gavi suffered a horrible knee injury during Spain’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Georgia.

Although La Roja won the game 3-1 to secure their spot at the top of Group A, there was a bleak feeling around the team after Gavi suffered a serious injury.

After receiving the ball on his chest, the 19-year-old tried to change direction before immediately clutching his right knee.

Luis de la Fuente was forced to withdraw the Barcelona midfielder as he was ushered straight down the tunnel.

According to reports from Diario AS, the 19-year-old tore his anterior cruciate ligament and is expected to miss up to eight months of football.

If true, that means he would not only miss the Olympics but the European Championships in the summer.

With Howe a little further forward than Xavi in his tactical appreciation, it may well be that the north east giants get the best out of Torres too.

Man United forward Jadon Sancho has emerged as a surprise option for Chelsea as Mauricio Pochettino looks to strengthen his forward line.

Out of the list above, Raphinha would be the best option on current form as the rest are not playing regularly at their clubs.

The most surprising name on the shortlist is Sancho as the Englishman has not lived up to expectations at Man United since he made the switch from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 as part of a £73m deal.

Chelsea have as many as ten names on their list of transfer targets for the final few days of the summer window, according to Fabrizio Romano in his exclusive column for CaughtOffside.

Romano also responded to the Chelsea transfer rumours and links with Barcelona duo Raphinha and Ferran Torres, stating that he’s not aware of anything concrete there for the moment.

Still, it seems the Blues have a number of options they’re considering, in what could be a busy end to the window at Stamford Bridge.

Discussing the latest on Chelsea’s plans and those links with a potential double raid on Barca, Romano said: “Chelsea fans have also asked me about Rayan Cherki from Lyon, but I keep saying the same thing – I’m not aware of negotiations between Chelsea and Lyon for Cherki, and this has been the case all summer.

“If tomorrow it changes, I will let you know, but as of now Chelsea are not negotiating with Lyon or on the player side. They are looking for different players.

“There are around ten names on the list for Chelsea, but I’m told they are still in internal discussion over best option to pursue in the final days. It involves owners, directors and manager too. They’re deciding all together.

“Still, despite rumours and links with Raphinha and Ferran Torres, Barcelona have not received any formal approach as of today from Chelsea, let’s see in the final days.”

Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing the Barcelona forward Ferran Torres.

A report from the Spanish publication SPORT claims that the West Midlands club are currently pushing to sign the 23-year-old forward but they are proposal is insufficient.

In addition to that, the player is not keen on leaving the Spanish club this summer and Barcelona will not consider his departure before they have settled the situation of Ousmane Dembele.

The French international has been linked with a move away from the club as well.

Aston Villa need to bring in attacking reinforcements and Ollie Watkins is the only reliable striker at the club. Torres could be a quality acquisition for Aston Villa.

He has played in the Premier League before with Manchester City and he should be able to settle in quickly and make an immediate impact.

Aston Villa could guarantee him regular game time as well. The 23-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot at Barcelona. He is versatile enough to operate in the wide areas as well as the central striker. His versatility will be an added bonus for Unai Emery and Aston Villa if they managed to sign him.

Barcelona are going through financial difficulties and a lucrative offer could tempt them into selling the talented young forward.

• Marco Verratti has reached an agreement with Al Hilal on a three-year deal. The player wants to move but the transfer depends on PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi. He has no intention of accepting the €30m proposal but that will be improved soon by Al Hilal.

Al Nassr

• Al Nassr are set to offer around €37m to Bayern Munich for Sadio Mane and are confident of getting the deal done. Talks are in an advanced stage as Mane’s agent is negotiating the terms of the contract with Al Nassr.

Arsenal

• Thomas Partey has a good chance of staying with Arsenal ahead of the new season. Saudi clubs approached the Gunners days ago, whilst Juventus called in June, but no club close to €40/45m package requested by Arsenal. A huge bid needs to arrive for Partey to leave as Mikel Arteta is happy to keep him.

Barcelona

• Nico González is ready to join Porto from Barcelona with just documents left to be signed. Barca will receive €8m for the player with a 40% sell-on clause in the contract and a buy-back clause.
• Chadi Riad has joined Real Betis from Barcelona with Barca receiving a €2.5m fee in June 2024. There is a 50% sell-on clause in the contract and also a buy-back option.
• Ferran Torres has said about his Barcelona future: “I’m going to stay at Barça, no doubts. I will stay, I have a contract — no plans to leave at all.”

Bayern Munich

• Bayern Munich’s board are set to meet Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to discuss Harry Kane deal on Friday. Bayern are prepared to improve their bid of €80m plus add-ons.
• Inter Milan and Bayern Munich are getting closer to an agreement for goalkeeper Yann Sommer as talks are at an advanced stage.

• Stephy Mavididi is in England to complete his transfer to Leicester City from Montpellier. The deal between both clubs is €7.5m plus a sell-on clause.

Liverpool

• Liverpool have confirmed the transfer of Jordan Henderson to Al Ettifaq for £12m plus add-ons.
• Liverpool are waiting for Al Ittihad to send all the official documents for the Fabinho transfer so they can check it before giving it the final green light.
• Liverpool continue to work on signing Romeo Lavia from Southampton with both clubs in contact over the transfer on Thursday. The new bid is expected to be around £42.5m plus £2.5m in add-ons but Southampton still want €50m to let the player leave.

• Savinho has completed his medical tests as a new Girona player on loan from Manchester City, as revealed yesterday. The deal will be official soon.

Manchester United

• Moldavian LB Oleg Reabciuk could leave Olympiacos in the next days — there’s now strong interest from French clubs. Olympiacos’ expectation is around €4.5m fee to let him leave.
