England only managed a draw in their final game of EURO Qualifying, in a 1-1 draw with North Macedonia.

The attack for England was very flat on the day, struggling to create clear cut opportunities, and going behind in the first half, they managed to fight back and get a draw, but overall the performance wasn’t good enough from Gareth Southgate’s men.

Jordan Pickford – 7 – Made two saves, including saving a penalty but the rebound was scored, not much else he could do.

Rico Lewis – 7 – Very unfortunate to give the penalty away, other than that thought he made a good account, making two tackles, making one key pass and completing 59/59 passes.

Harry Maguire – 6 – Completed five of his eleven long balls, and only had a pass completion of 84%, however he did win 5/6 aerial duels.

Marc Guehi – 6 – Made one tackle, won 2/3 ground duels and made two of his three long balls, but only won 1/5 aerial duels.

Kyle Walker – 7 – Recovered well when needed for England, making two interceptions, one tackle and one block, he also went forwards well, made one key pass, and completed both of his long balls attempted.

Declan Rice – 7.5 – Solid in the middle for England, made one key pass and kept it simple with a 96% pass accuracy. Also won 4/6 ground duels and made four tackles.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 6 – Wasn’t at his best, only made one key pass and that is what he is in there for. Failed all three of his long ball attempts and only completed one of his five crosses.

Phil Foden – 7.5 – Was very involved, and looked the most dangerous for England going forward. Drifting around picking up the ball, completed two key passes, created one big chance and completed two of his three dribble attempts.

Jack Grealish – 7 – Was nice and direct when he got the ball on the flank, made two key passes and completed seven of his eight dribbles. Marginally offside for his goal which was correctly ruled out.

Ollie Watkins – 5 – Barely got involved in the game, only played 58 minutes and only managed 10 touches.

Bukayo Saka – 6 – Did make two key passes, but could’ve done more on that right hand side. Nearly had an assist for Grealish’s disallowed goal, but did fail both of his other cross attempts, and only completed one successful dribble out of three.

Subs: Harry Kane 7, Cole Palmer N/A, Marcus Rashford N/A, Kalvin Phillips N/A.

England have beaten Malta 2-0, on rather flat evening for the Three Lions. However an own goal and a Harry Kane goal earnt England a victory and three points.

Rice had one chalked off, which would have made it 3-0 England, but that would have been a rather flattering scoreline for the performance from the Three Lions.

Jordan Pickford – 6 – Didn’t have to make a save, and only made the one punch, made 41/41 passes but was un tested so can’t be rated higher.

Fikayo Tomori – 6 – Taken off at half time, played in a slightly unfamiliar left back role, becoming a back three in possession. Made two tackles and completed four out five long balls.

Harry Maguire – 6.5 – Kept a clean sheet of course, and made two clearances and one block. Also completed 10/10 long balls, and won 7/7 aerial duels.

Marc Guehi – 6 – Not to much to do, made two interceptions and made 103/106 accurate passes, with 7/8 long balls.

Kieran Trippier – 6 – Managed two tackles, one clearance and one interception at right back, also making one key pass and completing 5/5 long balls.

Conor Gallagher – 5 – Subbed at half time to bring on the more attacking Bukayo Saka, worked hard and won some duels in midfield, however was a little sloppy in possession on a few occasions.

Jordan Henderson – 5 – Subbed after 61 minutes, played 2/2 long balls and won 2/4 ground duels. Didn’t offer enough in the middle of the park when playing out.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7 – Could have created more but did get forward in central midfield, getting four shots off (two on target) and making one key pass.

Marcus Rashford – 5 – Subbed after 61 minutes, struggled to get himself in the game, had one shot which was blocked and only completed 2/6 of his dribbles.

Harry Kane – 7.5 – Scored the goal to give England a 2-0 lead, and allow them breathing room. However wasn’t as involved as he could have been, only having 34 touches.

Phil Foden – 8 – Tried to make things happen whenever he got the ball, made three key passes, completed 4/4 dribbles and looked the most dangerous player on the pitch.

“No chance” Man United star will leave now in surprise transfer U-turn

There is now no chance of Scott McTominay leaving Manchester United in the January transfer window, while Harry Maguire’s situation has also changed.

Speaking to the Sun, a Man Utd source admitted things can change quickly in football, and it now looks highly unlikely that Erik ten Hag will allow either McTominay or Maguire to leave Old Trafford this winter.

This is a bit of a surprise turnaround for the Red Devils duo, who did not look to be a key part of Erik ten Hag’s plans back in the summer, when there seemed a great deal of uncertainty about both players staying at the club.

Now, however, it’s clear that they have won Ten Hag over and now look to be important members of his squad for the season ahead.

“Ten Hag needs Scott in his team. There’s no chance he’d let him go now,” the source told the Sun.

“Scott is a key part of the side now as is Harry Maguire. In fact they are two of the first names on the team sheet. Things change fast in football.”

McTominay’s revival will surely be popular with United fans after he rose up through the club’s academy to become a reliable first-team player, even if he’s not always quite looked good enough to be starting XI material week in, week out.

Maguire, meanwhile, also looks very capable of coming in and doing a job for MUFC, even if many fans will surely still feel he’s not lived up to the excitement that followed his initial arrival at the club.

Manchester United defender Raphael Varane could be in an “open situation” in the January transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano as he spoke on the Debrief Podcast today.

The Red Devils are known to be targeting a new signing at centre-back for January, or perhaps later in 2024, according to Romano, who has suggested that a deal in the middle of the season could hinge on what kind of opportunities are out there, as it’s mostly the case that clubs won’t want to sell important players in the middle of the season.

Man Utd have been linked with the likes of Jean-Clair Todibo, with Romano mentioning the Nice defender in his appearance on today’s podcast, and one imagines they would surely step up their pursuit of the Frenchman if they were to lose an experienced, proven player like Varane.

Harry Maguire has worked his way back into Erik ten Hag’s starting line up, so his position at Old Trafford may now be more secure, though Romano insists this is simply a tactical thing and there’s no particular issue with Varane, who may also get more playing time again now that Jonny Evans is out injured.

“The message from Manchester United on Varane is that it’s a tactical decision. They are very happy with how Harry Maguire is playing. Now that Jonny Evans is injured I’m sure Varane will get more playing time,” Romano said.

“Of course, if they receive important proposals for Varane, it could be an open situation in the January window.

“United will decide on a centre-back signing depending on opportunities, but players like Todibo, an important player for Nice … it’s not easy to sign these players in the January window, so it might have to wait until the summer, but the idea is to bring in an important centre-back in 2024.”

Manchester United could be set to sell Raphael Varane to a club in the Saudi Pro League in this January’s transfer window, with Harry Maguire now seen as increasingly likely to stay at Old Trafford.

Sources with a close understanding of the situation have informed CaughtOffside that Man Utd would be ready to consider the right offer for Varane, who is attracting interest from the PIF group of Saudi clubs, meaning he could end up at any one of Al Ahli, Al Hilal, Al Nassr or Al Ittihad, depending on who needs him most.

A host of big names moved to Saudi Arabia in the summer, with Cristiano Ronaldo starting this trend when he joined Al Nassr almost a year ago after also leaving United.

The Red Devils are keen to make a centre-back a priority for 2024, and while it had previously seemed like Maguire could be the obvious choice to leave, that is no longer the case, as the player remains keen to fight for his place in Erik ten Hag’s squad, whereas Varane is understood to have expressed a desire to try a new challenge.

The Frenchman has been a solid performer since his move from Real Madrid a couple of years ago, but it also seems pretty clear that he’s no longer at the peak of his powers, and MUFC have identified some younger centre-backs as potential replacements.

CaughtOffside understands that Goncalo Inacio, Antonio Silva, Edmond Tapsoba and Marc Guehi are among the names on the club’s list of targets in that area of the pitch, though the preferred option at the top of their list is Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo.

Todibo has long been scouted closely by United, and it’s widely felt that he could soon leave his current club for a new challenge, with Nice likely to ask for around £44million to let him go. Reports have also linked Chelsea with the player, but CaughtOffside‘s sources are not currently aware of anything happening on that front.

United, meanwhile, are continuing to back Ten Hag as manager, with no truth to links with other big names like Zinedine Zidane and Ruben Amorim, while it remains the case that Jadon Sancho is likely to leave Old Trafford in January, though no one has come forward with a concrete approach so far.

Anthony Martial could also leave, depending on offers, but United hope to agree new contracts for Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof, while there is not currently any plan to move Antony on. Marcus Rashford is also fully focused and committed to the club despite recently landing himself in trouble with Ten Hag for attending a birthday party shortly after the defeat in the Manchester Derby.

Rio Ferdinand highlights two Manchester United players after late victory

The former Manchester United defender highlighted Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes from the late win against Fulham on Saturday.

The Red Devils came into the game at Craven Cottage in need of three points and a win to uplift the club.

Erik ten Hag’s side had been battered 3-0 by both Newcastle and Manchester City in the past week as the pressure mounted on the Dutch manager.

Luckily, a late Fernandes strike saved his blushes as they snatched victory thanks to their captain.

Speaking after the game, Ferdinand was full of praise for two players in particular.

“The captain stood up. We needed a big performance, we needed a goal.” he told TNT Sports via The Mirror.

“Critical time against Burnley after the Champions League defeat, he stepped up. Today they needed somebody to step out of the shadows and get into the spotlight. That was him. He took responsibility. A fantastic strike.”

Fernandes came under heavy criticism for his performance against City last weekend with many believing he should be stripped of the captaincy.

Ferdinand then went on to praise the former captain Maguire.

“He (Maguire) deserves special mention as well.

“Head injury in the first couple of seconds of the game, battled his way through. It’s not about performances, there wasn’t a good performance there today. But they got the three points and that’s the most important thing.”

Referee asked Manchester United to substitute Harry Maguire in the second half

During Manchester United’s win against Fulham, there was a concerning incident involving their captain, Harry Maguire.

Maguire had earlier been involved in a head collision and received treatment from the club’s medical staff but was allowed to continue playing.

However, in the second half, referee John Brooks seemed to be concerned for Maguire’s well-being.

He indicated to the Manchester United bench that the defender should be substituted, possibly due to potential head injury protocols.

John Brooks has had to tell the Man Utd medical staff that Maguire is not right, but they have AGAIN allowed him to return to play. If the referee is telling you something’s not right then it needs to be taken seriously!!
