TalkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor believes no player returning from international duty should be tired for Man City and Liverpool’s huge Premier League clash on Saturday. 

There has been a lot of talk in the build-up to the clash at the Etihad Stadium due to the 12:30 kick-off time, a slot Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has often complained about due to his South American stars having to travel all the way back from the continent.

The chances of injury are increased with the lack of recovery time and Man City have stars of their own coming back from South America, but Agbonlahor believes that the way modern players travel leaves them with no excuse.

“They’re not coming back on an easyJet flight, like Simon (Jordan) says, with no legroom. They are on private jets, with private masseurs giving them massages on the way back, the best sort of food on the plane,” the talkSPORT pundit said on Thursday morning.

“They are not slumming it and coming back from South America on easyJet.”

Crystal Palace manager, Roy Hodgson, has been torn off a strip by talkSPORT pundit, Gabby Agbonlahor, relating to the 76-year-old’s post-match interview after the Tottenham game at the weekend.

The Eagles were unable to stop Ange Postecoglou’s side from taking all three points and go five points clear ahead of the rest of the weekend’s matches, and Hodgson wasn’t impressed with his young substitutes.

“There was no disappointment today. Although, maybe the young substitutes — who we like to think we can believe in and help us to a different level — didn’t show that,” Hodgson had said, quoted by the Evening Standard.

“They didn’t do anything for us at all, really. We became much weaker when I made the substitutions.”

That clearly didn’t sit well with Agbonlahor who ranted about it and questioned Hodgson’s motivational tactics live on the radio.

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen would be a “great signing” for Newcastle should Eddie Howe sign him in January.

The Magpies have held a long-term interest in the Denmark international and submitted a late summer bid that was rejected by Palace.

Andersen has played every minute for Roy Hodgson’s side this season and is a key member of the Eagles’ squad. The centre-back has been in great form and the potential partnership with Sven Botman should get Newcastle fans very excited.

Speaking about the Crystal Palace defender and a move to the North East, pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor told Football Insider that it would be a “great signing”: “I don’t see why Palace would want to sell him, especially in January.

“Him and Guehi have got a great partnership, so it’s going to cost Newcastle a lot of money.

“If they’re willing to pay a lot of money, then it’s a great signing. I rate him highly.

“But maybe Crystal Palace will price him out of a move. It’ll be difficult to replace him in the middle of the season.”

Man United were beaten once again on Saturday as Brighton rocked up to Old Trafford to take all three points with a 3-1 victory and pundits on talkSPORT were not happy with one United star’s performance throughout the clash. 

Casemiro struggled in the middle of the park for Man United as the Brazil star was often bypassed by his opponents and lost possession for his team on multiple occasions.

Gabby Agbonlahor and Jamie O’Hara were not impressed with the 31-year-old’s performance at Old Trafford and ripped into him during a show on Saturday night.

“Casemiro! Casemiro looked like he was 45 running around that midfield. He had to bring him off on the 65th minute for Hannibal, a young lad, because he was that bad,” Agbonlahor said.

O’Hara agreed with the Casemiro statements, saying on talkSPORT: “Casemiro looked like his legs were gone today and Man United fans can argue with me and give me whatever fitness stats they want.

“I am telling you now, three or four times in midfield today, he stopped running because it looked like his legs had gone. He gave up.

“It was like ‘I can’t catch him’. He looked so out of sorts.”

TalkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has stated that England manager Gareth Southgate needs to go next summer if he doesn’t win the EUROS in Germany. 

The former Aston Villa star stated that it would be a disaster if this current group of English players didn’t win something and that he would put the blame on Southgate’s door next summer if they fail to win the competition in Germany next summer.

The Three Lions have failed to win anything since 1966 but have come close under Southgate’s watch. Nevertheless, Agbonlahor thinks its win or bust in 2024 for the current England boss.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Thursday morning, the former footballer said: “They have to win something and I said it, if Southgate doesn’t win the EUROS, I don’t care if it is a last-minute own goal, he has to go.

“We got players playing for Real Madrid, players playing for Man City, players at the top of their game.

“That England squad, it would be a disaster if they don’t win something in the next four years.”

Gabriel Agbonlahor has defended Manchester United star Jadon Sancho, whilst speaking live on talkSPORT about the situation.

Agbonlahor compared the situation, with how things were handled in his time playing, before he retired in 2018. He came out and said how managers would “protect” their players, even if they hadn’t been the best in training and games.

The ex Villa striker spoke about how Erik ten Hag could have handled things differently, saying something along the lines of “Jadon Sancho is not involved for tactical reasons” and referred to the handling of the situation as “throwing him under the bus”.

Sancho went as far as to pin the post on his X account (formerly Twitter) , which Agbonlahor saw as Sancho feeling strongly about this, feeling like he is training well and as if he is being “scapegoated”.

It’s been 18 long months since Greenwood last set foot on a football pitch in earnest, and the club as well as first-team manager, Erik ten Hag, really have the most difficult of decisions to make over the course of the next few weeks regarding the 21-year-old’s future.

Before he was suspended by the club over allegations that were subsequently dropped, Greenwood was in fine individual form.

Indeed, there’s little doubt that the youngster is a fine football player but has let himself down with his decisions away from Man United.

Given the nature of the original allegations, and notwithstanding that Greenwood is still an innocent man in the eyes of the law which shouldn’t be forgotten, ten Hag is stuck between a rock and a hard place in terms of the decision he makes regarding the player.

From a purely footballing perspective, Greenwood would absolutely add something to United’s front line if he gets back to match sharpness.

However, the pressure that the player would be under at every away ground, and the club potentially losing sponsors because of a perceived outcry is likely to lead to the club having to move the player on.

TalkSPORT’s Gabriel Agbonlahor certainly believes that should be the case.

“I don’t think he will play in the Premier League again,” he said on the Sports Breakfast show (h/t talkSPORT).

“I think his reputation is damaged at Manchester United and England, I do think he will play on again in a different country, a different league.

“And that’s down to them clubs, their managers and their owners if they decide to sign Mason Greenwood.

“But I do feel living in England, being at football games, seeing what fans are like at games, I can’t see him going out there and playing for Manchester United again.”
