It’s been the most disappointing of seasons for Man United in 2023/24, and no mistake.

After a more than reasonable campaign in 2022/23, there clearly was an expectation that the Red Devils would kick on from there and continue their good form.

However, it’s been one disaster after another for Erik ten Hag’s team, as they stumble from one crisis to the next.

Form went out the window long ago, and it’s the disconnect between the players and management that’s very evident of late.

Certainly, Erik ten Hag has got a fight on his hands in terms of not losing the dressing room, and if results don’t improve quickly the Dutchman faces a very difficult couple of months indeed.

That could be exacerbated by the news that Aaron Wan-Bissaka is considering switching his international allegiance according to The Athletic (subscription required).

With an England cap looking further and further away for the right-back, Wan-Bissaka is considering the overtures from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

TalkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor believes no player returning from international duty should be tired for Man City and Liverpool’s huge Premier League clash on Saturday. 

There has been a lot of talk in the build-up to the clash at the Etihad Stadium due to the 12:30 kick-off time, a slot Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has often complained about due to his South American stars having to travel all the way back from the continent.

The chances of injury are increased with the lack of recovery time and Man City have stars of their own coming back from South America, but Agbonlahor believes that the way modern players travel leaves them with no excuse.

“They’re not coming back on an easyJet flight, like Simon (Jordan) says, with no legroom. They are on private jets, with private masseurs giving them massages on the way back, the best sort of food on the plane,” the talkSPORT pundit said on Thursday morning.

“They are not slumming it and coming back from South America on easyJet.”

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has surprisingly confessed that scoring goals is not a specialty of his after failing to get on the scoresheet for Brazil during the international break.

The South American giants lost both of their matches over the past week against Colombia and Argentina as the team’s crisis worsened.

Jesus returned from a hamstring injury against the World Cup champions on Tuesday night but failed to get on the scoresheet as his side were beaten 1-0 thanks to a Nicolas Otamendi header.

Speaking after the game, the Arsenal star defended his record in front of goal and called for more patience from fans, but admitted that finding the back of the net is not something that comes naturally to him.

“The goal is inevitable and I don’t think it is my strongest suit,” the forward told reporters via Lance.

“But I (will) score the goal, I’m there to score the goal. I scored goals here in the National Team. When I score again, it will happen naturally.”

talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has made his England squad predictions for EURO 2024, with some very notable omissions.

Reece James was the first name Agbonlahor mentioned, as he missed this international break, pulling out of the England squad to stay at Chelsea and continue building his fitness.

He then went on to mention his Chelsea team mate Raheem Sterling, saying the leaving out of Sterling in these England squads makes “no sense to me”.

Agbonlahor then went on to list the squad he predicts Gareth Southgate will take to EURO 2024, with Kalvin Phillips and Jordan Henderson both being named.

Harvey Elliot scored a brace for the England Under-21s, who beat Northern Ireland Under-21s 3-0 in UEFA EURO U-21 qualification.

Elliot’s first came from a beautiful freekick, curling it over the wall and into the bottom corner from around 25 yards out, giving England a 2-0 lead in the 52nd minute.

He then got his second in the 80th minute, making a run from midfield and being picked out by Tyler Morton, before chipping it over the Northern Ireland keeper to make it 3-0.

Southgate has managed to qualify for EURO 2024 unbeaten, topping their group on 20 points, with six wins and two draws in their eight matches played.
