There’s just over a month until the January transfer window opens for business, and West Ham United need to bring in a quality front man as soon as practicable.

The Irons have spread the goals around this season but it’s noticeable that their strikers haven’t been at the races where finding the net in 2023/24 is concerned.

David Moyes appeared to try once before to just go with what he had, rather than spending money for the sake of it and, as luck would have it, he seemed to get away with it. Not anymore.

If the Scot wants the Hammers up towards the top of the Premier League and challenging for honours, then a striker purchase in January is an absolutely necessity.

Not just any striker either, but one who is a guarantee of goals.

Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke might not be a household name as such, but he does have seven goals and one assist in 13 games in all competitions this season, per WhoScored, which is an impressive return in a team that’s struggling badly under Andoni Iraola.

You’d imagine that the Cherries would fight tooth and nail to keep a player with that sort of output, but it seems as though they won’t have to.

As Sky Sports report, Iraola has been quoted as saying that “he’s happy here,” in relation to the question from a reporter to the Bournemouth manager about Solanke’s links with West Ham.

That’s sure to disappoint the east Londoners who’ll likely have to look elsewhere for their new front man.

West Ham United striker Danny Ings may not have had the desired impact during his time at the London Stadium, but it seems he’s expected to get one final chance to prove himself at the club.

Ings, formerly of the likes of Southampton, Liverpool and Aston Villa, has always been a pretty reliable and prolific performer at this level, but for one reason or another it’s just not quite happened for him in his time with the Hammers.

However, it now looks like there will be a fresh opportunity for Ings to play more and show what he’s capable of, as David Moyes’ main man up front, Michail Antonio, is facing a spell on the side-lines due to an injury.

Discussing the situation with Give Me Sport, journalist Dean Jones said he felt this could be one last chance for Ings to work his way back into Moyes’ plans, so it’s clear this looks like being an important moment for him with the east London outfit.

Danny Ings in action for West Ham

Jones says it looks like Ings was surely heading for a January transfer, but “Maybe this is a late, last opportunity for him to prove that he can make this work out at West Ham.

“Certainly, he is going to get more opportunities now than he would have had before.

“But it’ll be interesting to see if that’s definitely the route that West Ham want to go down and how much they even trust Danny Ings.”

Leroy Sane’s contract is a priority for Bayern Munich amid interest from England

Bayern Munich have many contract situations that they need to discuss internally and with player’s representatives, with Leroy Sane falling into this category. Sane is out of contract in the summer of 2025 and it is a crucial moment for Bayern as they still need to discuss a new deal with the player.

From what I understand, Bayern’s plan is to make a very important proposal to Sane as the winger has been one of the German club’s best players this season. The new contract offered to the player will obviously add more years to his stint at the club but it will also see his salary increased, which will include bonuses. Bayern are currently preparing this proposal and they will try hard to convince him to stay.

There is interest in Sane from England but it is nothing advanced. This is why it is now a priority for Bayern to offer the player a new contract.

Could Trevoh Chalobah reunite with Thomas Tuchel in January?

I have told you multiple times that Trevoh Chalobah will not stay at Chelsea beyond the January transfer window as he wants to play regular football. The idea of the club and player are in line and they will try to find the best solution for everyone during the upcoming transfer window.

There are rumours about many clubs being interested in the player from England and Germany. I want to clarify that for Bayern Munich, Chalobah is no longer a priority. He was a priority on Deadline Day this summer as he had previously played under Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea but the deal collapsed because of the different closing times of the transfer windows in each country.

There are possibilities in other countries for Chalobah in January, including England, so let’s see what happens.

What does the Premier League’s latest decision mean for Ruben Neves to Newcastle?

There have been rumours of Newcastle eyeing up a move for Al-Hilal’s Ruben Neves ahead of the January transfer window but I can say that there’s nothing going on with this deal at this stage. I can’t predict anything yet for the upcoming transfer window but there are no talks so far, just interest and appreciation. The situation remains very quiet but let’s see in December/January.

Man United target Jean-Clair Todibo has been scouted by many clubs

There have been rumours about Newcastle and Chelsea being interested in Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo and I can say that he’s been scouted by many clubs. Man United made contact with the player’s representatives last summer, while Newcastle were tracking him in June then nothing happened. At the moment, there is not something concrete as he is a key player for Nice, therefore, it is not easy at all to imagine a deal in January.

In other news…

Andrey Santos – Chelsea have not held talks with Nottingham Forest about Santos’ lack of playing time. Of course, Chelsea can’t be happy with the current situation but nothing will be discussed before December when the club will decide on many things, including Santos’ future.

Alejandro Balde – Balde signed a new deal with Barcelona in September so there’s nothing at all regarding a move away. He’s a key player for Barça and his extension showed the player that the club want him to be a key part of their current and future projects.

Danny Ings – Following rumours that Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke could replace Danny Ings at West Ham, I can say that Solanke is appreciated by the London club. He’s one of the players they like but no decision has been made yet as it is still early. I have no information about the future of Ings yet.

West Ham United striker Danny Ings is expected to leave the club during the January transfer window.

The 31-year-old has not been able to live up to the expectations since joining the London club and popular pundit Frank McAvennie feels that he does not fit into David Moyes’ style of play.

The Scottish manager prefers strikers who are physically robust and work hard defensively as well. Ings is a natural goalscorer and he is better suited to a team that plays free-flowing attacking football.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “I don’t know what Ings is doing, I think he’ll move on, because he needs to play. He’s a goalscorer. He’s never going to work his backside off to help others, he’s just a natural striker, which doesn’t fit into Moyes’s way of playing football.

The 31-year-old needs to move on for his own benefit and it remains to be seen where he ends up.

Previously, Italian international Gianluca Scamacca also struggled to adapt to David Moyes’ style of play at West Ham.

The Hammers should look to get rid of their underperformers and bring in players who will fit them in January. They have been quite mediocre in the Premier League so far and they must bring in the right additions in order to turn things around.

West Ham remain top of the Group A table ahead of their Europa League tie against Olympiacos and, unlike in the first match between the teams, David Moyes is taking no chances with his team selection.

The Scot opted to rotate a few players last time out, and it came back to bite him as the Hammers lost in Greece.

Though Thursday night’s match at the London Stadium isn’t necessarily a ‘must win,’ getting all three points will keep them in the box seat with two games left to play in the group stage.

Both main strikers, Danny Ings and Michail Antonio, have been left on the bench, with Jarrod Bowen again leading the line for the east Londoners.

It’s becoming a feature for the Irons and could spell the end of Antonio’s and Ings’ Hammers careers.

With Said Benrahma, Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus all starting too, it appears that Moyes has gone with all-out attack.

James Ward-Prowse will supply the bullets whilst Edson Alvarez will station himself in front of a back four that sees Dinos Mavropanos making another appearance.

Nayef Aguerd, Emerson, Vladimir Coufal and keeper, Lukasz Fabianski make up a strong starting XI and one that is perfectly capable of getting the win required on the night if each player sticks to their task.

West Ham’s two main strikers have scored only two goals between them in the Premier League this season, so it’s completely understandable why David Moyes might be considering placing Jarrod Bowen up front for the next few games at least.

The England international just can’t stop scoring, even from a wide berth, and playing with his confidence so high will surely benefit the Hammers.

If Moyes is looking for another player who knows where the net is, the club already have one in the form of exciting youngster, Divin Mubama, but it appears that they’ve lost their chance to help make him a Premier League star.

Just 19 years of age, he’s been handed only 25 minutes of first-team action this season per WhoScored, and none of those have come in the English top-flight.

That’s meant that he’s continued to turn down the overtures from the club who clearly want to keep him.

Instead, with his contract set to run out next summer, Watford appear to be offering him a way out in January according to Claret and Hugh.

The Hammers will need to sell in the winter window otherwise they run the risk of losing the player for absolutely nothing at the end of the season.

It’s a decision that indicates just how poor the recruitment and retaining of players is and has been at the club.

It’s not been the best of seasons for West Ham United so far, which is a disappointment when you consider how well they finished the 2023/23 campaign.

The Hammers have begun to plummet down the Premier League in much the same way as they had done in the previous season before pulling themselves together and going on a brilliant run in the latter part of the campaign.

There’s nothing to say that a similar fate will befall them in 2023/24, however, the way they’re playing at the moment, something needs to change. Quickly.

One of their biggest problems is a lack of goals from their strikers.

Per WhoScored, Michail Antonio only has two, the last of which came in August, whilst Danny Ings hasn’t scored or assisted in any of the matches he’s played.

Ahead of the Brentford game at the weekend, it appeared that David Moyes was acknowledging that he knew something had to be done.

“I’m loathe to say he’s (Jarrod Bowen) suddenly a No9 because we might need him to play No7 and do the job that he’s doing there,” he was reported as saying by the Evening Standard.

“But in time I see it changing for Jarrod, I really do. Hopefully, people would have seen my thoughts over a few months. I actually think Freiburg was probably the night, he was terrific that night in Freiburg and I think that made me feel it.

“We had a bit of a blip after the international break but the game the other night got us back on track. And the performance, more importantly, from the likes of Mo and Jarrod and Paqueta got us thinking there are other solutions to what we’ve got here.”

Whether Bowen will now become the de-facto centre-forward and both Ings and Antonio will only be used as back-up isn’t clear, though given Antonio’s age (33), it’s a safe bet that his Hammers career is coming to an end.

With the January window just a couple of months away, easing out both strikers will free up some of the wage bill, and that will allow Moyes and Tim Steidten to be able to freshen the squad up just when it needs it.

David Moyes’ West Ham side got back to winning ways in the best possible fashion against Arsenal in midweek, banishing the memories of a few recent performances that were less than pleasing.

The Hammers have always tended to take two steps forward and then one back no matter which players they have in situ, but the Carabao Cup win against the Gunners was so comprehensive that supporters will be hoping that it’s a stepping stone to better things in 2023/24.

One thing that Moyes could certainly do to help is stop chopping and changing his players around, both from a starting and positional perspective.

It’s arguable that by doing just that it lost them their unbeaten record in Europe against Olympiacos.

One player that’s hardly been getting a look in and when he does it’s to plough a lone furrow which isn’t really his game, is Danny Ings.

The striker has managed just 268 minutes of action this season according to WhoScored, and perhaps unsurprisingly hasn’t been able to contribute any goals or assists during that time.

Journalist, Paul Brown, thinks enough is enough and it’s time for Ings to leave the London Stadium.

“I think Danny Ings realises from how it’s gone at West Ham that he’s going to need to get out because he’s never really been used in the way that gets the best out of him,” he said to Give Me Sport.

“He’s not a lone striker. He can’t really play the same sort of game that Michail Antonio does.

“They’re very different. Ings likes to feed off a frontman, and he’s not going to get that in West Ham’s current setup.

“So I think he knows that if he wants to play regular minutes in the Premier League, which he does at his age, he’s going to need to find a new club. I don’t think West Ham would stand in his way, to be quite honest.

“He’s not done enough for West Ham to suggest that he’s got much of a future there and I think it’s probably best for all parties if he leaves.”

Were the club willing to allow Ings to go he would need to be replaced, and with 33-year-old Michail Antonio getting no younger either, a further striking replacement is also likely to be needed shortly.

David Moyes masterminded a magnificent 3-1 win over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, but former Man United and Newcastle star, Andrew Cole, was none too impressed by one of the Scot’s decisions.

The striker had a vested interest in how things panned out at Old Trafford considering it was a match between his two former teams, but he had a real bee in his bonnet with what happened down at the London Stadium.

According to WhoScored, Danny Ings hasn’t scored a single goal this season and that has to be why his manager left him on the bench again in what was their most important match of the season to date.

That’s a decision that didn’t sit well with Cole.

“It does surprise me because Danny Ings is there, but he never gets a game, so I look at it like, ‘why did you bring him in’?,” he said on Sky Sports (h/t Hammers News).

“Me personally, I think he’s one of the best goal-scorers in the Premier League. I find it really, really strange that he’s playing Bowen up front when he’s got Ings. He’s never given the opportunity, for me personally, it’s another strange signing.”

Cole has let himself down a little there.

With no goals or assists in 2023/24 he’s clearly not one of the best strikers in the Premier League – at least at present.

Moyes does have his detractors of course, but he can’t really be blamed for not playing Ings, because the striker has one of the worst records in the division so far this season.

With the January transfer market on the horizon too, it’s a fair bet that Ings’ situation is unlikely to improve.

The January transfer window can’t come soon enough for West Ham given that their two main centre forwards, Michail Antonio and Danny Ings, have just two goals between them this season according to WhoScored.

It’s a poor return by any team’s standards but for a Premier League outfit with a storied history to boast one of the worst front lines in the English top-flight is a travesty.

The win against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup has papered over the cracks for a little while longer though it’s clear the Hammers need to take the plunge and spend some money on a top-class striker.

According to West Ham Zone, the club have tried to sign Santos’ 20-year-old Brazilian sensation, Marcos Leonardo, in the past without success.

Graeme Bailey has told 90Min that Newcastle United, Fulham and Brentford are also monitoring the player whilst other Premier League sides have apparently run the rule over him in the past.

Clearly a man much in demand, it seems fairly evident that Santos aren’t going to be able to keep hold of their man if any club comes in with an acceptable offer.

Should Brentford lose Ivan Toney, then their need could be as acute as West Ham’s, however, the east Londoners have arguably needed a top-end front man for the last couple of years and never followed through with any targets.

Now it seems they have little other option.
