British Airways pilots are currently playing a role in the Premier League as they help referees hone the art of communicating under pressure during matches.

The officials in England’s top flight have come under intense scrutiny this season as there have been several high-profile mistakes that have infuriated clubs and their fans.

The incident that infuriated most people was Luiz Diaz’s disallowed goal for Liverpool against Tottenham in September, where the winger scored a perfectly good goal but it was chalked off as the officials couldn’t communicate effectively.

According to The Times, the Premier League have brought in British Airways pilots to help their officials hone the art of communicating under pressure.

The standard of officiating has been dreadful this season in the Premier League and it seems that the decisions they make occupy most of the conversation after matches, which is not what makes the sport enjoyable to many.

Anything that will help them improve should be welcomed and this is a positive step towards referees making more consistent decisions under the high pressure they are under.

With just a few weeks until the opening of the January transfer window, Arsenal custodian, Aaron Ramsdale, needs to find a backbone and give Mikel Arteta a taste of his own medicine.

The England international has been treated appallingly by his manager, with Arteta’s suggestion that David Raya was being brought in as competition rather than as the new number one, per the official Arsenal website, already shown to be an out and out lie.

The former Brentford stopper was obviously brought to the club with the clear intention of being their main man in goal and the sooner that Ramsdale understands that the better.

France 24 also noted Arteta’s words as he attempts to keep hold of Ramsdale beyond January.

“We will always try to do our best to help them, but this is a team sport that needs 24 players that have to fulfil a role. And the role that you have in August, it might be very different from the one you have in March,” he said.

“So making early decisions, in my experience, is not something good at all and as well because the team has certain needs that have to be accomplished. And in order to do that you cannot do it with six, 10 or 14 players. It is impossible. So you need everyone and Aaron has a really important role in the team.”

No amount of guilt tripping should stop Ramsdale from essentially sticking two fingers up at Arteta and getting himself a No.1 position elsewhere in order that not only is he playing regular football again, but that he has a genuine chance to be part of Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad.

‘Looking after number one’ has never been a more accurate phrase. Ramsdale owes Arsenal nothing and he certainly doesn’t owe Arteta anything either.

It’s accepted that teams evolve and manager’s want different things, that’s always been part of football, but to go about things in such an underhand manner reflects incredibly badly on the club and its manager.

Ramsdale can do better than being a pawn in Arteta’s game.

At present, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side look in healthier shape than Erik ten Hag’s Man United outfit, however, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe expected to be taking over the sporting side of the business imminently, that gap could soon be narrowed.

One of the main areas where the Red Devils need a change is in their recruitment policy for playing staff.

Though the likes of Casemiro and Raphael Varane are serial Champions League winners, they are also the two top earners at the club despite being nearer the end of their careers than the beginning.

Capology note that the Brazilian earns a whopping £350,000 per week, with Frenchman, Varane, not too far behind on £340,000 per week.

If the club are able to rid themselves of that extensive salary burden, it will allow them to compete with the Gunners for £60m-rated Wolves ace, Pedro Neto.

According to TeamTalk, both Premier League clubs as well as their Saudi Pro League counterparts are interested in the player, however, the outlet also note that Wolves won’t let him leave for less than £60m.

Whilst that is a considerable outlay for any club, given that the player is only 23 years of age and playing as well as he has at any point during his career to date, it could prove to be a bargain in the longer-term, particularly as transfer fees continue to rise.

Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka has ranked fourth in talkSPORT’s 15 most valuable young players in football list.

Saka ranked fourth in the list, valued at a whopping £105.1 million by talkSPORT. The only three players to finish above him were Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland.

Only four players were valued over £100 million, showing how highly rated Saka is, with 5th placed Jamal Musiala being valued at £96.3 million by talkSPORT.

Arsenal team mate Gabriel Martinelli also made the list, but way back in 15th place, valued at £70 million.

Saka has made 17 appearances for Arsenal this campaign, scoring six goals, providing eight assists and totalling 1,332 minutes of football.

He is a big reason that Arsenal are doing so well in the Premier League, sitting 3rd place on 27 points, but joint on points with Liverpool who are 2nd, and one point off title defenders Manchester City on 28.

The 22-year-old is a key piece for Mikel Arteta’s Gunners, featuring in all 38 Premier League games last campaign, scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists, helping Arsenal to a runner up finish in the league.

Arsenal were given a timely boost on Thursday as captain, Martin Odegaard, was seen back in training.

The Gunners are away at Brentford on Saturday evening and the start the weekend level on points with Liverpool and one point behind leaders Man City.

The top two play each other in the early kick-off and if they can only draw and Mikel Arteta’s side pick up three precious points, they’ll top the table once again.

That’s likely to be the focus before the kick-off at the Etihad Stadium.

Arsenal will trigger the clause to make David Raya’s transfer to the club permanent in 2024, according to a post on X this afternoon from transfer news guru Fabrizio Romano.

Arsenal signed the Spanish shot-stopper on loan from Brentford back in the summer, and he’s quickly established himself as the new number one in Mikel Arteta’s side, despite the presence of Aaron Ramsdale in the squad and his fine performances as the club’s first choice last season.

See below for details as Romano says it’s already guaranteed that Arsenal will take up the option to sign Raya permanently, with a long-term deal already in place for the goalkeeper…

Raya has mostly impressed for Arsenal, but he’s also had one or two unconvincing moments, so it will be interesting to see how this decision looks in a few months’ time.

Some will feel Ramsdale was good enough to continue as Arsenal’s number one, but Raya is certainly another fine player, having really impressed during his time at Brentford.

If he can reproduce that form as an Arsenal player, then this will surely end up being smart business by the north London giants.

Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu is reportedly on Bayern Munich’s radar at the moment as Thomas Tuchel looks for a versatile defender of his calibre.

However, the Gunners want to keep hold of the Japan international after his fine recent form and hope to tie him down to a new contract, according to the Telegraph.

Tomiyasu has performed well since joining Arsenal from Bologna a few years ago, slowly becoming more and more of an established figure in Mikel Arteta’s side, even if he still doesn’t quite look like he’s going to be a guaranteed starter for the foreseeable future.

Arteta will clearly feel Tomiyasu’s fine recent form and ability to cover a number of positions makes him a valuable asset in his squad, however, so the interest from Bayern could be a worry.

Takehiro Tomiyasu in action for Arsenal

With Jurrien Timber out with a lengthy injury and some signs of a loss of form from Oleksandr Zinchenko this season, one imagines Tomiyasu will continue to get a lot of playing time over the next few months at least.

Bayern are a huge club so could be a tempting option for Tomiyasu, but Arsenal seem set to do what they can to prevent the 25-year-old from leaving.

Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior is reportedly ready to reject interest from three Serie A clubs this January as he wants to win over Gunners boss Mikel Arteta and fight for his place in the team.

The Poland international only joined Arsenal from Spezia last January, and it seems his future could be in some doubt less than a year into his stay at the Emirates Stadium.

However, even if there is some interest from AC Milan, Roma and Napoli in bringing Kiwior back to Italy, it seems his preference is to try winning Arteta around, according to Fichajes.com.

Kiwior could surely be a fine signing for those clubs, and it could boost his chances of getting more playing time, but Arsenal fans will surely be glad to see he wants to stay in north London for a bit longer.

Jakub Kiwior in action for Arsenal

Arsenal have an excellent central defensive pairing in the form of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, but there’s surely also a role for Kiwior to play over the course of the season as Arteta will need to rotate from time to time.

AFC were also hit hard by some injuries last term, so won’t want to be without backup options in case that happens again.

Everton’s 10-point deduction has been the biggest story to emerge from the Premier League over the international break and Man United legend Gary Neville is not happy about the whole situation.

The Toffees were punished for breaking the league’s financial rules and were handed the biggest punishment ever dished out as a result, which many in the football community deem very unfair.

This comes amid Man City and Chelsea also being under investigation for financial rules breaches and Man United legend Gary Neville is not happy with the current state of the league, which includes the power the Big Six clubs have.

The Sky Sports pundit believes the trust in the league has evaporated and that the greed of the big clubs have turned them into bullies as they want to control the upper spots of the table and are happy to throw others under the bus to achieve it.

Everton are in the relegation zone after points deduction

Speaking on the latest episode of Stick To Football, Neville has stated that he’d be furious if he was an Everton fan and that the Premier League are scared of Man City.

“The trust and faith has gone completely (in the Premier League),” the Man United legend said on the show.

“The greed and selfishness is out of control it’s lawless. The Premier League is a defunct organisation.

“I’d be furious if I was an Everton fan. I’d feel like it is an absolute disgrace what you’ve done to my club. Big Six, they’re bullies.

With 115 charges hanging over their head, Neville believes that the Premier League are “frightened to death of Manchester City” and is evidently not happy about their situation either.

Football has been broken for a long time, evident in the amount of money being spent and the same teams have been seen winning all the time for a good number of years across Europe.

The sport is limited in the amount of fairytale stories being produced these days and the greed of organisations and big clubs continues to get worse and worse as the years pass by.
