Chelsea’s in-form player, Cole Palmer, has earned a senior international call-up for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers, along with Manchester City’s Rico Lewis. This selection comes as England grapples with several injuries among their squad.

Palmer’s exceptional club performance has earned him a place in Gareth Southgate’s senior squad for the matches against Malta and North Macedonia. He will be joined by his former teammate, Rico Lewis, who is also a graduate of the Manchester City academy, and Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa.

Since making his summer move to Stamford Bridge the 21-year-old has found the back of the net on four occasions as well as setting up teammates twice, in just six starts for his new club in the Premier League.

This is how the new England squad shapes up:

Despite having already secured their spot in the Euro 2024 tournament in Germany next summer, Southgate’s preparations for the remaining qualifying games have been disrupted by a series of injuries.

James Maddison, Callum Wilson, and Lewis Dunk have withdrawn from the squad due to various injuries, while the participation of Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham remains uncertain.

Just when Ange Postecoglou thought Tottenham’s season couldn’t get any worse, James Maddison’s injury diagnosis has thrown a spanner in the works.

Though nothing about how long the player will be out for will be known until the Spurs manager has his Friday afternoon press conference, The Telegraph (subscription required) have revealed that the injury is worse than first thought.

Premier Injuries, who are a reliable source of injury information for players at all Premier League clubs, had Maddison down to return this weekend, however, it would appear that Maddison could be out for some time to come.

Coupled with Micky van de Ven’s hamstring problem which will keep him out until the new year, Richarlison’s recovery from an operation and the suspensions to both Destiny Udogie and Cristian Romero, Postecoglou will have to be a miracle worker to be able to get something from Saturday lunchtime’s fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Along with van de Ven and Son Heung-min, Maddison has been one of the stand out players for the Lilywhites, and a major reason why they had been at the top of the Premier League table until last weekend.

There’s seven weeks to go until the transfer window opens for business again, so it’s not as if there’ll be a quick and easy fix for the club either.

Tottenham playmaker James Maddison was involved in a bit of an Instagram spat with Chelsea legend John Terry after Monday night’s crazy game in the Premier League saw the Blues thrash Spurs 4-1.

Tottenham will feel they were the better team for much of the game, only for Chelsea to capitalise once the home side went down to nine men and continued to play an adventurous high line late on, which saw them picked off in the dying moments by some clinical finishing from Nicolas Jackson.

Former CFC captain Terry certainly enjoyed the result, and posted a video of himself celebrating afterwards on his Instagram page, with Maddison clearly taking issue as he responded by asking the former England international if he’d actually watched the game when it was 11 vs 11 earlier on…

Terry jokingly replied that Maddison will get used to it, which presumably means he expects him to get used to being on the losing side for Spurs against Chelsea.

This unsurprisingly got a lot of likes, with Maddison perhaps left looking a bit silly for allowing himself to be wound up by Terry in the first place.

Tottenham’s season took a huge blow on Monday night against Chelsea, not only did Spurs lose to their London rivals, but Ange Postecoglou saw James Maddison and Micky van de Ven pick up injuries.

It was a crazy game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and it will go down as one of the best in the history of the Premier League.

Dejan Kulusevski gave Spurs the lead within six minutes before Cristian Romero was sent off and Cole Palmer converted a penalty. Destiny Udogie got sent off in the second 45 minutes and that led to Nicolas Jackson scoring a hat-trick to give Mauricio Pochetino’s men a 4-1 win.

In the midst of all this, Tottenham received a big blow as Maddison and Van de Ven picked up injuries.

Van de Ven coming off injured

In the first half, Micky van de Ven pulled up clutching his hamstring after a footrace with Nicolas Jackson and was replaced by Eric Dier.

Within minutes of this, star man James Maddison went to ground untouched in the box and also limped off before halftime to be replaced by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The two stars have been crucial to Tottenham’s impressive start to the season and Spurs fans will be hoping the duo won’t be out for a long time as it will be detrimental to their campaign

Tottenham have taken the lead at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace as Joel Ward has turned the ball into his own net.

The Eagles have kept Spurs quiet throughout the match and have been much better than their showing last weekend against Newcastle.

Ange Postecoglou’s side did not have a single shot on target in the first half but took the lead early in the second.

Tottenham worked the ball down the right before it eventually landed at James Maddison’s feet. The midfielder took a shot which was deflected in by Ward as the England star is involved in yet another goal for his new club.

Life at Tottenham has got off to a great start for James Maddison and Gary Neville believes the England international is the player who has the biggest impact on his club.

The 26-year-old joined Spurs from Leicester over the summer and has played a big part in the North London club currently being top of the Premier League.

Maddison has scored three goals and assisted a further five across the opening nine matches of the campaign and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville believes the England international is the player who has the biggest impact on his club in the English top flight.

“I think he’s had the biggest impact on a club. It’s just his enthusiasm. We have done Friday night football five, six years while he was at Leicester and he is brilliant to have around, great to come into the interviews,” the former Man United star said.

“You can imagine him in the changing room, they just got to keep him fit, keep him buzzing and keep feeding him because he is so influential.”
