Arsenal were given a timely boost on Thursday as captain, Martin Odegaard, was seen back in training.

The Gunners are away at Brentford on Saturday evening and the start the weekend level on points with Liverpool and one point behind leaders Man City.

The top two play each other in the early kick-off and if they can only draw and Mikel Arteta’s side pick up three precious points, they’ll top the table once again.

That’s likely to be the focus before the kick-off at the Etihad Stadium.

Former Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre remains unconcerned about Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard’s “small dip” in form, emphasising the team’s readiness to contend for the Premier League title.

Odegaard, who has been dealing with a hip problem according to manager Mikel Arteta, has scored three goals, two from the penalty spot, and registered one assist in nine Premier League appearances this season.

The four-time Premier League winner provided insights into why he believes Arsenal has faced challenges in scoring as prolifically as the previous season. Additionally, he addressed Ødegaard’s recent dip in form and discussed the potential for Nketiah to evolve into a more dependable player for the Gunners.

Odegaard hasn’t been at his best

“I don’t think there’s a specific reason for the lack of creativity. Teams are finding ways to control the space that Saka, Ødegaard and Martinelli like to occupy,” Silvestre said via bettingexpert.com.

While acknowledging the slight downturn, the former defender expresses confidence in Odegaard’s ability to recover and contribute positively to Arsenal’s campaign.

The ex-Gunner stated: “It’s just a little dip in form and he has the mental ability to come back to his best and be the leader for this season for Arsenal.”

Last season the Norwegian international found the back of the net 15 times and set up seven teammates in 37 Premier League starts, it was this sort of form that got many people believing Arsenal could lift the title come the end of the term. However, the form could not be maintained and Manchester City were relentless in their pursuit of the North London club.

Martin Odegaard was absent from Arsenal’s last three games due to a concussion which he suffered in training.

The Arsenal captain missed the club’s most recent games including a pivotal clash against Newcastle and a Champions League home tie against Sevilla.

Mikel Arteta stated that the Norwegian was struggling with a hip injury, but it has now been revealed that he suffered a concussion during training.

According to the Daily Mail, a ball struck the Arsenal man in the head which was deemed significant enough for him to be checked for concussion.

The protocol in the Premier League states that a player must rest for six days and not have any lasting symptoms before playing again.

Odegaard will not travel on international duty with Norway and instead will remain in England and rest.

The club is hoping that he will be fit to return after the break with a busy Christmas period awaiting him.

Martin Odegaard has reportedly been ruled out of international duty with Norway.

That’s according to journalist Steve Kay, who claims the Arsenal captain has been forced to stay in London.

Picking up an upper leg injury recently, Odegaard, according to Premier League injuries, is currently being assessed.

However, it now seems the outcome of the midfielder’s assessment has confirmed fans’ worst fears.

Forced to withdraw from the upcoming international fixtures, Odegaard will miss his country’s next two games – a friendly against the Faroe Islands and an important European Championship qualifier at Hampden Park against Scotland.

Arsenal will continue to monitor the stricken 24-year-old with Mikel Arteta keeping everything crossed that his captain can return to full fitness ahead of the Premier League’s resumption on 25th November.

The Gunners’ first game back after the international break is set to be an away game against Brentford.

Arsenal have had a difficult season with injuries, and there were two new concerns for Mikel Arteta to contend with after the win over Sevilla in the Champions League last night.

The Gunners won 2-0 against Sevilla thanks to goals from Leandro Trossard and Bukayo Saka, but there was a worry later in the game as Saka hobbled off.

According to the Evening Standard, the England international is now set to be assessed by Arsenal, as well as Takehiro Tomiyasu, another player who went off against Sevilla.

On top of that, Arsenal were also without Martin Odegaard and Eddie Nketiah in their game yesterday, and the Standard suggests both players are pushing to return to action this weekend when the Gunners take on Burnley.

Takehiro Tomiyasu of Arsenal

Arsenal are also without the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey, while summer signing Jurrien Timber has barely played for the club since his summer move from Ajax due to picking up a serious injury on his Premier League debut.

Arsenal fans will hope for some better luck before long because it’s going to be hard enough to compete with Manchester City this season even with a fully fit squad.

Arsenal could be without as many as three first-team players for Wednesday night’s Champions League group game against Sevilla.

The Gunners, who will come into tomorrow night’s narrowly top of Group B, will welcome Sevilla to the Emirates Stadium but could now find themselves as the match’s underdogs.

And that’s because according to a recent report from the Evening Standard’s Simon Collings, attacking trio Eddie Nketiah, Gabriel Jesus and captain Martin Odegaard have all been forced to miss the Gunners’ most recent training session.

Although Nketiah could still make Mikel Arteta’s lineup, the Englishman will need to pass a late fitness test, and that is not something that is guaranteed after he picked up a knock against Newcastle United last weekend.

And with Jesus and Odegaard expected to miss tomorrow night’s game, Arteta will be forced to re-think his attacking line, which could now include Emile Smith Rowe and Leandro Trossard.

Wednesday night’s match at the Emirates, which is scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m. (UK time), will be broadcast live on TNT Sports.

Mikel Arteta has revealed that Martin Odegaard will be available for selection against Newcastle tomorrow if he is able to train today.

Arsenal head to St. James’ Park tomorrow evening to take on Newcastle in a crucial test in their quest for the Premier League title.

After a devastating defeat and exit in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday against West Ham, the Gunners will be looking to bounce back against Eddie Howe’s men.

Newcastle on the other hand are coming into the game looking to continue winning ways after an impressive 3-0 demolition of Man Utd mid-week.

Martin Odegaard scores against West Ham

Both sides have been plagued with injuries but in his pre-match press conference on Friday, Arteta handed some positive news to Arsenal fans regarding their captain.

“He had a little issue [hip]. He felt a lot better in the last few days. He will train today and if he is fine, he will be ready.” he said via James Olley.

The Norwegian midfielder missed out on last week’s win against Sheffield United and played only a few minutes against West Ham.

His inclusion will be a huge boost for his side given his performance in the same fixture last season.

Former defender Bacary Sagna believes anyone criticising Martin Odegaard’ is ‘crazy’ following what has been 95 ‘amazing’ Arsenal performances.

Despite the Arsenal captain managing three goals and one assist in the Premier League in just nine appearances, his numbers, as well as performances, are still a long way short of the levels he reached last campaign, and that has been noted.

Sagna disagrees that Odegaard’s current form is worthy of criticism though.

“This is the problem with football. Players will always be criticised and people will always have opinions [on players],” he told Genting Casino.

“It’s human nature to question why a player that has performed so brilliantly isn’t doing so well at any given moment, but if you looked at Odegaard’s last 100 games for Arsenal, you could say that in 95 of them he has been amazing.

“It is possible for a player to have a few bad games. At the moment, Odegaard isn’t playing his best football, but that is normal. Look at what he has done throughout his time wearing the shirt. It’s crazy to be critical of Odegaard without considering his body of work when playing for Arsenal.”

During his time at the Emirates, Odegaard, who signed from Real Madrid in 2021, has shown why Los Blancos invested so much money and resources in his development, and although his career in Spain didn’t quite work out the way it was intended, the playmaker, now a leading Premier League midfielder, has certainly shown why he was once considered one of Europe’s most high-potential players.

And while Odegaard, who is valued at £78 million (TM), will undoubtedly be keen to improve his output, there is still plenty of time for the Norway international to replicate last season’s form as he, and Mikel Arteta, remain on course to challenge for the Premier League title for the second time in as many years.

Mikel Arteta has revealed that Martin Odegaard has been dealing with an injury after dropping him for the Sheffield United win.

The Gunners ran riot at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, smashing five past the Blades and putting them just two points behind their North London rivals.

Arteta decided to make five changes to the team that won in Seville on Tuesday.

The most controversial decision was to drop captain Odegaard, after a run of poor games from the Norwegian.

Some fans have been calling for the midfielder to be benched and the Spanish manager made the decision to bring in Kai Havertz in his place.

Martin Odegaard vs Sevilla

Speaking after the game, Arteta revealed that Odegaard has been playing through an injury and believed that this was the ‘right day’ to rest him.

“We went through all the minutes that everybody has played the last three weeks and some of them played an enormous amount of minutes,” he said via Football.London.

“Martin has been as well carrying a little thing that wasn’t very comfortable in the games.

“So we have players with enormous quality and we have to choose and we believe that it was the right day to do so.”

Arsenal managed to beat Sevilla in their Champions League group stage match, winning 2-1 at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

Arsenal took the lead right at the end of the first half with a goal from Gabriel Martinelli, before making it two in the 53rd minute through Gabriel Jesus.

Sevilla grabbed one back in the 58th minute through Nemanja Gudelj, however the game ended 2-1 and the Gunners managed to get all three points.

Read on for our Arsenal player ratings, and who stood out for the Gunners…

David Raya – 6 – Only made the one save, did make three high claims though and completed five long passes. Not much he could do about the goal.

Takehiro Tomiyasu – 7 – Looked solid slotting in the inverted fullback role, completed two of his four long balls and made three clearances.

Gabriel Magalhaes – 6 – Lost a few more duels than usual, only winning two of his six attempted duels, however he did make two out of his six long balls and made three clearances.

William Saliba – 7 – Was more involved defensvily, with six clearances and one tackle, and was also the main defender bringing the ball out from the back with 46 accurate passes made out of his 55 attempted.

Ben White – 6 – Was dribbled past on a few occasions and beaten down his flank for Sevilla to put crosses into the box, and didn’t offer much on the overlap for Arsenal.

Declan Rice – 7.5 – Really solid in midfield and looked to be progressive with the ball making three key passes in this game. He also made two tackles, one interceptions and one block protecting the defensive unit.

Jorginho – 6 – Was in the team to control the tempo and he did use the ball well moving it side to side with a 95% passing accuracy and 63 touches. However did pick up a yellow and was slightly liable in transition.

Martin Odegaard – 6 – Not his best game in terms of creation, making no key passes and only creating  0.02 x/A (expected assists). Only had 30 touches and made 17 accurate passes.

Gabriel Martinelli – 8 – Got the opening goal calmly rounding the keeper and slotting it home and could have had another. Made four key passes and looked threatening throughout down the left flank.

Gabriel Jesus – 9 – A complete performance from the centre forward, getting a goal and an assist, making three key passes and creating two big chances. Linked up play very well between the lines.

Bukayo Saka – 7 – A quieter game for Saka, maybe due to the brilliance of the other forwards, still managed three key passes and two shots (both of which were blocked)

Subs: Kai Havertz 4, Eddie Nketiah 4, Leandro Trossard 5, Jakub Kiwior N/A.
