Tottenham Hotspur need to be on their guard for an approach from Barcelona for one of their players in January.

The north Londoners could provide the key to unlocking the Catalan’s current issues, exacerbated by the recent injury to talented midfielder, Gavi.

The effervescent youngster won’t play again this season, and is likely to miss Euro 2024 as a result of the knee injury that he suffered in a meaningless qualifier – given that La Roja had already qualified from their group as champions.

If there is to be a saving grace, then it is that the next transfer window is just around the corner and, according to Mundo Deportivo, La Liga are giving the Catalan club some leeway in terms of new signings precisely because of what’s happened to Gavi.

The outlet note that it’s Spurs’ Gio Lo Celso that is at the top of Barcelona’s wish list once the window opens for business on January 1.

Giovani Lo Celso of Tottenham

He was favoured by Xavi in the summer, but the club’s financial situation conspired against them and the player never arrived.

It appears that they’ll push hard again in the new year, in the hope that the player’s will and Ange Postecoglou’s acquiescence sees the deal go through without too much trouble.

David Moyes should be looking to approach the January transfer window with confidence rather than trepidation, as long as his West Ham side don’t fall further down the Premier League table.

Their results of late haven’t been as positive as might be expected from one of the better squads in the division, and the way their season has started to pan out has echoes of 2022/23.

On that occasion the Hammers were on the slide until a late-season surge and the winning of the Europa Conference League turned their campaign into an unqualified success.

Though they’ve strengthened significantly since selling Declan Rice to London rivals, Arsenal, they’ve still struggled to gain some sort of momentum.

It’s perhaps with that in mind that they’re being linked to Roma’s brilliant Italian midfielder, Bryan Cristante.

TV Play suggest that the east Londoners are looking to gazump Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham, and it’s believed that an offer in the region of £26.3m, will be enough to tempt the Giallorossi to sell.

The 28-year-old has been a fixture for Jose Mourinho for much of the current season, so it’s unclear just how the ‘Special One’ will feel about losing his player to the Premier League.

With Mourinho previously being linked to the West Ham manager’s job, per La Roma 24, could a move for Cristante even be the pre-cursor to seeing the Portuguese back in the saddle in the English top-flight?

Injured at present, Richarlison is clearly still going through a tough time at Tottenham, both in a physical and mental sense.

The Brazilian is due back from his current injury on or about December 15th according to Premier Injuries, and perhaps with one eye on the future, Football Insider are reporting that Spurs are looking at an 18-year-old to come in and cover in the front line given how light Ange Postecoglou finds himself in that department.

Should Richarlison’s well-publicised mental health issues become an issue for the player again, Club Brugge’s Antonio Nusa could find himself becoming a longer-term replacement.

Tottenham will give the Brazilian all the help and support that he needs, as they’ve done so far, however, even that may not be enough for him to conquer his demons.

Should he hit the ground running during the festive period and find his footballing mojo, there’s still a good enough reason for Nusa to be considered in January given that Ivan Perisic is out for the season and Manor Solomon isn’t expected to be back on the pitch until late January at the earliest.

Chelsea and Fulham are also said to be interested by Football Insider, although the one thing that could scupper the deal for any of the London trio is that the Belgian Pro League side are said to be wanting £30m or thereabouts to allow him to move mid-season.

Ever since Ange Postecoglou took over at Tottenham things have been on an upward trajectory for the White Hart Lane outfit.

In the space of 13 Premier League games the entire mood around the club appears to have turned, and even the loss of free-scoring captain, Harry Kane, hasn’t seen the positivity bubble burst.

A couple of recent losses notwithstanding, Spurs once again have a clear identity and way of playing, and it’s evidently got the thumbs up from the north London faithful.

One player who isn’t perhaps enjoying himself as much as he would like is striker, Richarlison.

The Brazilian had previously admitted that he was suffering from mental health issues, and his bravery in coming forward was wholeheartedly supported by his manager at the time.

Just two goals in 11 appearances this season, per WhoScored, hints at the anguish the striker is going through on the pitch too.

It’s perhaps with that in mind that Football Insider quote a well placed source as saying that the move “hasn’t worked out for all parties.”

The outlet also suggest that the Brazilian has been the subject of approaches from the Saudi Pro League.

However, Tottenham are believed to want to keep hold of the player for the foreseeable future and a move away from the club is highly unlikely to happen in January in any event.

Fabrizio Romano has written in his exclusive Daily Briefing column about the situation surrounding Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez and recent links with both Chelsea and Tottenham.

The Mexico international has had a superb season in the Eredivisie and it could be that he’ll earn himself a big move soon, though Romano has moved to play down the links with Chelsea, even if he did acknowledge that Spurs have been scouting him and monitoring him closely.

Both Tottenham and Chelsea need new strikers at the moment, and Gimenez seems like an ideal option, though Romano doesn’t expect Spurs to be spending big money this January, so it remains to be seen if the 22-year-old is realistically available for the kind of money the north Londoners can afford.

“We continue to have rumours about Santiago Gimenez, who is doing very well at Feyenoord – rumours about Chelsea and about Tottenham, but from what I can tell you, Tottenham sent their people to follow Gimenez multiple times, he’s going very well and scoring goals, but at the same time I’m hearing Chelsea are not making him a priority and are focusing on other players,” Romano said.

Santiago Gimenez celebrates a goal for Feyenoord

“Chelsea know the situation well, that Gimenez could be available for around €45m in January, but at the moment nothing concrete is ongoing, but I’ll keep you posted if the situation changes. It’s also important to say that Tottenham keep following the player, so that could be one to watch as it looks like Gimenez could be an important player on the market in the near future.

“Also on Spurs, we know they have some injuries in defence at the moment, but they are not desperate to sign cover. It will depend on opportunities. They’ve been unlucky because they’ve had a lot of injuries at the same time, but I’m told they won’t panic because they know most of these players will be back at the end of December, so they’ll assess the situation then.

“Overall, I don’t see Tottenham spending crazy money in January, that’s not the plan at the moment. They’re happy with the balance in the squad right now, but of course the recovery process of some key players will be important, so perhaps they could look for opportunities towards the end of the January window.”

It would certainly be intriguing to see this prolific young attacker in the Premier League soon, but it seems we can probably expect Chelsea to look for alternatives in that area of the pitch.

Fabrizio Romano has provided exclusive insight for the Daily Briefing on this season’s Premier League title race, as he expects it to be between just Arsenal and Manchester City.

Tottenham have started well under Ange Postecoglou, but it seems Romano now expects them to fade out of the conversation in the title race, as the journalist expected Arsenal and Man City to be the main names in contention for the Premier League crown.

City take on Chelsea today in what could be a difficult away game for them at Stamford Bridge, while Spurs were surprisingly beaten in a thrilling late comeback by Wolves yesterday, so this could end up being a good weekend for Arsenal, who beat Burnley 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta’s side came close to winning the league last year and may well have done it if not for injuries to so many key players at various stages, and they’re actually coping quite well without some important players available again this term.

“We’re almost a third of the way into the season now, so how is the title race shaping up? We’ve had a bit of a surprise already so far as Tottenham have been hugely impressive, only to stutter a little in their last two games,” Romano said.

Arsenal won while Spurs lost in the Premier League yesterday

“My personal feeling is that it’s looking like Arsenal and Manchester City will be the main teams fighting for the title. Spurs are doing something special, and I want to say congrats to them really, but with injuries to key players like James Maddison it’s very difficult to keep going. They’ve been really unlucky with their results in recent days, conceding crucial goals in stoppage time against both Chelsea and Wolves.

“But overall I see a battle between City and Arsenal. We’re maybe yet to see either of them at their very best yet this season, but they have so much quality in both squads, and have coped well despite key injuries, with City having to play without Kevin De Bruyne so far this season, while Arsenal have barely been able to play their strongest XI as Jurrien Timber and Thomas Partey have hardly featured, and others like Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard have missed a lot of games.”

Ange Postecoglou wasn’t too happy after his side crumbled in injury time against Wolves at Molineux.

Tottenham have now lost two consecutive games in the Premier League after suffering a devastating loss on Saturday afternoon.

Postecoglou’s side grabbed an early goal through Brennan Johnson but it was all one-way traffic after as Gary O’Neil’s men created chance after chance.

Spurs managed to hold out until the 90th minute until Pablo Sarabia popped up with a beautiful touch and goal to level it.

After that, there was only one team winning the game as Mario Lemina pinched the winner in the 96th minute.

Mario Lemina scores the winner

The north London side came into the game missing four starters with Postecoglou revealing this was a key aspect in the defeat.

“It is always a tough game here and Wolves were always going to come on strong but we probably ran out of a bit of legs at the end there,” Postecoglou told TNT Sports after the game via NBC.

“That is understandable. A lot of those guys haven’t played and they scored a couple of good goals. Hard one for us to take but is what it is”

Brennan Johnson couldn’t have picked a better time to score his first goal for Tottenham.

Just two minutes were on the clock at Molineux when a brilliant Spurs move tore apart the hosts defence.

Given that Ange Postecoglou was without four of the players that he started with against Chelsea last week, it made the start all the more impressive.

The celebrations that followed the goal, on the pitch and in the dugout, showed just how together this team remain and that bodes well for the Australian whilst he’s unable to pick his first choice XI.

The Tottenham team for the Saturday lunchtime kick-off against Wolverhampton Wanderers was always going to be a much changed XI for Ange Postecoglou.

Premier League table toppers until their loss last weekend against Chelsea, the Australian has, nevertheless, picked an attacking XI once more, showing that he won’t change his playing principles even if the football Gods are determined to do their best to challenge that.

Out go the injured James Maddison and Micky van de Ven as well as the suspended pairing of Destiny Udogie and Cristian Romero, and in come Eric Dier, Ben Davies, Emerson Royal and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The visitors to Molineux will go back to the top of the table with a victory, and will stay there until at least Sunday afternoon when Man City head to Stamford Bridge.

If Pep Guardiola’s side fail to secure all three points against Chelsea, Spurs will remain at the top until the next match day.

Wolves will surely have something to say about the situation, however.

Aside from the loss last time out against Sheffield United, they’ve drawn with Newcastle and Aston Villa and beaten Man City, so they’ll be no pushovers.

Were they to emerge victorious, Wolves could move up a couple of places and see Spurs slide down two if other results go against them.
