Aston Villa plotting January move for 29-year-old La Liga speedster

Aston Villa want to add a new striker to the mix in the upcoming transfer window.

And, according to a report by Football Insider, Villa boss Unai Emery is keen on having Athletic Bilbao star Inaki Williams in his ranks.

Williams has been one of the mainstays of the Spanish club over the years. In the ongoing season, he has featured in 13 league games and has contributed towards eight goals. While he has been deployed as a right winger on the majority of occasions in the ongoing season, he is well capable of featuring as a number nine.

His versatility and consistent performances have resulted in a lot of interest in his services over the years. But, Athletic Bilbao have managed to keep hold of their star striker.

However, things could change in the upcoming window as Aston Villa are keen on having him in their ranks.

Unai Emery is a big fan of the 29-year-old as he has watched him up close during his time in Spain. The Villa boss feels he could be a great fit for the club. And, his age is not a concern for Emery as he wants a striker who is ready to go from the start.

Villa want to sign a new forward in order to ensure they have someone who can support their main talisman, Ollie Watkins. The 27-year-old has already found the back of the net on 11 occasions in the ongoing season. He is in red-hot form but the English club wants to reduce their huge reliance on him.

Inaki Williams has signed a long-term contract.

The forward was seconds away from netting a crucial equaliser for his team in injury time.

After a tightly contested first half, supporters were on the edge of their seats from the 65th-minute mark as five goals were scored between the two sides.

Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to score in five World Cup tournaments when he converted a spot-kick to open the scoring for Portugal.

Ghana then equalised eight minutes later through Andre Ayew, before the Portuguese extended their lead to 3-1. Osman Bukari was able to pull one back in the 89th minute, and Williams had a golden opportunity to steal a point from the match.

Williams’ late chance

Diogo Costa was unaware of the forward’s presence when he went to make a pass in the closing stages of injury time, which Williams was quick to capitalise on.

The 28-year-old then, unfortunately, slipped and squandered the chance. Take a look below:

Earlier this month, Athletic Bilbao’s Inaki Williams set one of the most incredible football records in the modern era.

Against Deportivo Alaves, the player made his 203rd consecutive La Liga appearance, per Athletic Bilbao’s official website, overtaking Juanan Larranaga’s 202.

Astonishingly, the run began way back in 2016, with Williams’ consistency and lack of injuries helping him to achieve the mark.

La Liga sports journalist, Kay Murray, tweeted his club’s incredible tribute to him.

Two young members of the club were brought onto the pitch, one of whom was born on the day Williams made his debut for the club, with the other born the day before the epic run started – meaning he has never seen a league game without Williams in it.

You have to take a different approach when it comes to defending against certain players, but this is the textbook example of how you don’t defend against Inaki Williams.

We all know he’s got good movement and he’s rapid, so putting little pressure on the passer and allowing him to run in behind a defensive line stationed high up the pitch is never going to end well:

Arsenal star named as third fastest footballer in the world

The world’s fastest football players have been revealed and four Premier League stars make the list in the top ten, according to a report in the Mirror.

French media outlet Le Figaro revealed the list of the fastest footballers on the planet with Paris Saint-Germain star forward Kylian Mbappe ranking first in the list with a top speed of 36 km/h.

However, Premier League stars aren’t too far behind. Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ranks at number three on the list with a top speed of 35.5km/h.

Aubameyang is third only behind Athletic Bilbao winger Inaki Williams who is second and Mbappe who is first, while ahead of Bayer Leverkusen’s Karim Bellarabi who is in fourth spot.

The 30-year-old Gabonese striker Aubameyang is well known for his blistering pace and the Gunners forward has used attributes such his speed to rack up 20 goals in all competitions for Arsenal this season.

Other Premier League stars on the list include Manchester City wing-back Kyle Walker who is fifth on the list, clocking a speed of 35.21km/h, while fellow Manchester City winger Leroy Sane comes in sixth at 35.04km/h.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah isn’t too far behind coming in at number seven, marginally behind Sane, being able to reach a top speed of 35km/h, according to the report.

Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman and Bayern defender Alvaro Odriozola, who is on loan from Real Madrid, make the eighth and ninth spot respectively.

Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez clocks in at 34.62 km/h to complete the top ten.

Arsenal and Chelsea in battle with Euro giants over potential €40m forward transfer

Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly among the clubs interested in a potential transfer deal for Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams.

The 25-year-old has long been a highly impressive performer in La Liga, and it seems he’s now attracting plenty of interest from some big names.

According to Don Balon, Williams is being eyed up by Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea, while Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also among his admirers.

The report adds that the Spain international is valued at roughly €40million at the moment, which looks a potential bargain for a player with pace, skill and an eye for goal.

Williams could no doubt be useful for both Arsenal and Chelsea at the moment due to their issues up front after a challenging season.

In the 93rd minute of this evening’s Copa del Rey quarter-final between Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona, Inaki Williams became the hero for his boyhood club.

Substitute Ibai Gomez whipped a dangerous cross into the box and Inaki Williams overcame Sergio Busquets to head the ball into the back of the net at the near post.

The ball crept into the bottom corner, Marc-André ter Stegen had little chance of stopping this. Quique Setien’s side join rivals Real Madrid in being knocked out of the the Copa del Rey this evening.
