Arsenal have been linked with a move for the Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.

The 25-year-old Brazilian has established himself as a reliable Premier League midfielder and the Gunners are keen on signing him during the January transfer window.

Thomas Partey has been sidelined with an injury recently and Arsenal must look to bring in a quality midfielder soon.

Unai Emery could be the ideal manager to bring out the best in him.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has confirmed in his press conference on Friday that Emile Smith Rowe will be out of action for weeks after his latest injury blow. 

The 23-year-old has had plenty of setbacks over recent seasons which has hampered him from building on an impressive 2021/22 campaign.

The midfielder made his first Premier League start of the season against Sheffield United last weekend, helping the Gunners to a 5-0 home victory, but just when he was beginning to find his feet again another injury struck.

Ahead of the London club’s trip to Newcastle on Saturday, Arteta has confirmed that Smith Rowe will be out for several weeks with a knee issue.

“Nothing has changed,” Arteta told reporters via Arsenal FC News.

“As I said – he will be out for weeks – how many will be determined by how he progresses in the first few weeks especially. A big blow because he was gaining some momentum.”

Emile Smith Rowe would be a great fit for Newcastle United.

That is the view of former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton, who believes the young playmaker should consider a move to St. James’ Park amid the uncertainty surrounding his Arsenal career.

Falling out of favour with Mikel Arteta in recent seasons, Smith Rowe, 23, has been forced to play second fiddle to both Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

With less than three years left on his deal, the 23-year-old now faces an important season. Failure to be awarded more first-team game time by his manager could see him offloaded either in January or at the end of the campaign.

According to recent reports, including this one from the Northern Echo, Eddie Howe’s Magpies are one club who have been discussing the possibility of making a mid-season approach for the London-born attacker.

And Hutton feels a potential transfer could benefit all parties.

“I think he is a top talent, there is no getting away from that,” he told Football Insider.

“Newcastle is a good prospect moving forward, they are going in the right direction and he might want to be part of that.“

Since being promoted to the Gunners’ first team in 2020, Smith Rowe, who has represented England on three occasions, has directly contributed to 29 goals in 102 games in all competitions.

Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe could be handed a way out of the Emirates as Eddie Howe would love to have the midfielder at Newcastle.

Arsenal fans believed that the 23-year-old was on the same trajectory as Bukayo Saka at one stage with the duo receiving a joint song together; however, injuries have hampered his progress in Mikel Arteta’s side and the Englishman now finds himself down the pecking order.

The wide areas are taken up in the Spaniard’s side, whilst Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz and Fabio Vieira are ahead of Smith Rowe for the number eight roles.

A report from TEAMtalk previously suggested that Arsenal value Smith Rowe around the £60m mark and there will be several clubs interested in the Gunners star should he become available – maybe not at that price.

One of those is Newcastle as Eddie Howe believes that Smith Rowe could make a real difference to his side, especially with Sandro Tonali facing a lengthy suspension related to the ongoing Italian betting investigation.

The Tyneside club would be a great place for the 23-year-old to continue his career and it remains to be seen if the Magpies will make a move in January or next summer.

Football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has responded to the recent rumours about Newcastle United being interested in a January deal for Arsenal attacking midfielder Emile Smith Rowe.

Writing exclusively for the Daily Briefing, Romano explained that Newcastle have not yet decided their January transfer window plans, as much of what they could do in the winter window hinges on what their situation is in the Champions League.

The Magpies have started well in their group, but who they’re able to sign in January will likely depend on if they have knockout football in the second half of the season, or if they’re in the Europa League, or out of European competition altogether.

There has also been plenty of speculation about Smith Rowe in recent times as he’s not playing much for Arsenal, but Romano says he’s not currently aware of anything going on with the England international and a potential move away from the Emirates Stadium.

Former Premier League striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has warned Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe regarding a move to Newcastle United.

The 23-year-old has been linked to the move away from Arsenal, owing to the lack of playing time and Agbonlahor believes that he is unlikely to start regularly at Newcastle. He believes that Smith Rowe would be a squad player for the Magpies and he should think carefully before making the transfer.

He said to Football Insider: “I think he’s at the level, definitely. He can be a good squad player for Newcastle.

“But that’s the problem. He’d be leaving Arsenal for another club where he isn’t going to start.

“Let’s not forget, Newcastle have got Willock coming back in that position. He was brilliant last season and has been completely forgotten about by everyone.

Newcastle United are keen on signing the Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe.

A report from the Mirror claims that the 23-year-old Arsenal midfielder is a target for the Premier League club ahead of the January transfer window and it remains to be seen whether the Gunners can hold onto him until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old has struggled for regular gametime since his return from injury and he needs to play more often in order to fulfil his potential. He was regarded as one of the best young midfielders in the league before his injury blow and Smith Rowe will be hoping to return to that level once again.

Arsenal already have players like Martin Odegaard and Fabio Vieira at their disposal as the attacking midfielders. Smith Rowe will struggle for game time if he stays at the London club.

The January transfer window may be two and a half months away, but the current international break has provided Newcastle’s board with the perfect opportunity to discuss which targets manager Eddie Howe would like to sign in the early part of the new year.

The Northern ECHO note that Howe will be part of any discussion regarding players, and he’ll be joined around the table by Newcastle directors, Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi, as well as club chairman, Yasir al-Rummayan, who is also head of the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF).
