Real Madrid’s bad luck with injuries continues

Real Madrid have been really unlucky with injuries this season. We know what happened with Courtois and Militao in the summer, and then there is the situation with Arda Güler. Now two more players have picked up injuries whilst on international duty and are going to be out for some time.

Eduardo Camavinga has a knee injury and will be out till the end of 2023. The hope is he’ll be available in January for the Super Cup against Atlético Madrid. Vinicius Jr. was injured whilst playing with Brazil against Colombia. Now there is a waiting game for a final decision, in order for everyone to understand how bad the problem is and how long Vinicius will be out of action for.

Real Madrid’s position at the moment is not to be hasty and do anything in the January transfer window. Unless anything changes and perhaps Vinicius Jr’s injury is worse than first thought, Madrid will stay with the same team to the end of the season and then do something in the summer.

Douglas Luiz remains Arsenal’s top target

It’s also important to mention guys that injuries are not helping Arsenal either, with Thomas Partey’s situation ensuring that Arsenal will still look at midfielders in the January transfer window.

I mentioned the name of Douglas Luiz last week as the top target for Arsenal, and I can confirm guys that Arsenal really, really want and appreciate Douglas Luiz. He’s a player they’ve had on their list for more than two years, and Arsenal consider him the perfect midfielder for their way of playing, for his intensity and for the quality he can bring. So many different factors make him top of the list for Arsenal now.

The problem remains that Aston Villa have no intention to let him go in January, so it’s going to be really difficult. It will take a really important proposal to tempt Aston Villa, so something not easy at all. But, for sure, Douglas Luiz is in Arsenal’s list and is a midfielder for the present and the future. Let’s see if they will be able to make it happen in January or they have to look at another solution in midfield.

Badiashile is definitely staying at Chelsea despite Milan rumours

Also guys, in the Italian press we’ve had some rumours about Benoît Badiashile and AC Milan over a potential January move. Guys, what I’m hearing is that the only centre-back expected to leave Chelsea is still Trevoh Chalobah. Chelsea invested big money last year in Badiashile, so letting him go on the cheap is something that they’re absolutely not considering.

It’s true that Milan appreciate the player but at the moment for Chelsea the idea is very clear; the only player leaving in January is Trevoh Chalobah. Chelsea are looking for a centre-back but Badiashile is absolutely part of Chelsea’s plans. For Milan, they would have to spend €35m-€45m and that’s something in January that they can’t and won’t do.

In other news…

Ivan Toney – Brentford will try any way to keep Ivan Toney in January and then sell him in the summer. It’s still not clear if this will be possible but they will try. I’m not aware of any precise info on release clauses and a new deal with Brentford as of today. As of now, there is only interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, still no concrete negotiations.

Timo Werner – Despite rumours, I have to say no, honestly, I didn’t hear that he’s being offered to other clubs. Some Premier League clubs have asked about his situation as it’s not an easy time for him at Leipzig, but I don’t have any confirmation yet on club names as it’s purely early stages, nothing concrete yet.

Man United – Paul Mitchell remains the favourite for the sporting director post, yes. There are more candidates in the frame but Mitchell has always been the first choice since day one. The announcement is expected next week, then they will make a final decision on a new director.

Marcos Leonardo – He will leave Santos in January and the price could be around €20m, but it’s a complicated package that could include add-ons, percentage on future sale etc. Roma wanted him last August but they had three bids rejected, and now it’s a very open race.

Barcelona – Barça are 100% behind Xavi at this stage, nothing has changed. They all support the manager and trust him for the present and future project. Also he extended his contract just a few weeks ago.

Albert Gudmunsson – I’m not mentioning specific clubs as it’d be disrespectful on the day he signs a new deal at Genoa, but also there’s really nothing now – just scouting activity. Clubs from the Premier League and Bundesliga have sent their people many times to follow him, and his new deal at Genoa is to help them to get good money on any future sale – as well as giving him a bigger salary.

So far so good for Real Madrid in the 2023/24 season.

Eight wins from their nine La Liga games is a fine way to begin the season and on current form, it’s hard to see anyone stopping them.

Just a week after the current international break, they head to Barcelona for the first-ever El Clasico to be played at the Estadio Lluis Companys in what could be a season-defining 90 minutes even at this early stage of the campaign.

One of the players sure to make an impact on proceedings aside from the marauding Jude Bellingham is lightning quick striker, Vini Jr.

The Brazilian can now be considered as one of the world’s best strikers, so it’s interesting to understand that Los Blancos still haven’t renewed him, per Sport.

With his contract running out next summer, he’s free to speak with other suitors from January 1, and whilst Sport also note that both parties consider a renewal a formality, the fact remains that it hasn’t been made official at this point.

That leaves open the possibility that his head could be turned despite his apparent desire to remain a Real Madrid player.

Now that the Saudi Pro League are muscling in on European football’s major stars, there’s likely to come a time when those in their prime consider making the switch to the Emirates.

If nothing else, the salaries on offer there will push their counterparts in Europe to up their game in terms of what can be offered to players, and only then will we see just how wedded to their employers certain players are.

In the meantime, Real Madrid would do well to put any noise to bed by tying down Vinicius to a longer-term package.

After just two months, Jude Bellingham is already a massive hit in Madrid as the 20-year-old has shown the Bernabeu what all the fuss over his signature was about.

Heading into the summer, there were numerous clubs after the Englishman as he was destined to leave Borussia Dortmund. Premier League clubs such as Man City and Liverpool were constantly linked to the midfielder but in the end, the youngster decided to take a big leap of faith and join Real Madrid.

So far, that decision has proved correct and the La Liga giants’ best player, Vinicius Junior, has stated that he played a role in convincing Bellingham to move to the Spanish capital.

“I wanted Bellingham at Real Madrid. I texted Jude a lot last year, maybe almost every day and told him to come to us,” the Brazilian stated.

Bellingham has scored eight goals and assisted a further three across his opening nine games for Los Blancos in all competions. The English younger has produced some huge moments already and looks to become a legend at Real Madrid over the coming years.

Vinicius Jnr and Bellingham’s relationship on the pitch will only get stronger from here and that is a scary prospect for the rest of Spain and Europe.

Jude Bellingham’s epic start to life at Real Madrid continued on Tuesday night as he first helped Vinicius Jr to equalise Napoli’s opener before slotting home a stunning solo goal to give Real the lead at half-time.

It took Napoli scoring first after a mistake from Kepa before Los Blancos really got going.

The England international picked the Partnopei’s pockets as they attempted to play out of defence and played in the Brazilian who made no mistake from a tight angle.

The second was all his own work as he marauded through the centre of the field, taking on all comers as he did so. His finish matched the run to silence the home crowd.

The charity game between Ronaldinho’s XI and Roberto Carlos XI in Orlando was quite a spectacle with the former Barcelona man’s team coming on top winning it 4-3.

Some of the biggest names in football both past and present came together to play the fund-raiser game called The Beautiful Game.

During the game, there was a moment when Paulo Dybala played a great ball in for Vinicius Jr, sending him one on one against the goalkeeper only for him to produce a shocking miss. He reacted to the miss by going over to the crowd behind the goal and started signing autographs for the fans.

Watch the incident:

Vinicius Jr was on the scoresheet though and it was perhaps the goal of the game. He was assisted superbly by none other than Ronaldinho himself who played in an outrageous ball for him to send him through. And the Real Madrid man finished it off in style chipping it over the goalkeeper.

Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior was a victim of ruthless racial abuse by Valencia fans during the 1-0 defeat earlier tonight.

Real Madrid lost 1-0 at Valencia, with Diego Lopez scoring the only goal of the game. The game that was marred by disgusting racial abuse from Valencia fans saw Vinicius Jr get sent off in the stoppage time.

The red card itself was surprising considering he was being man-handled and choked by the Valencia player before he reacted with a hand to the face which was deemed as red-card worthy. The Valencia player escaped any punishment.

Earlier in the game, almost the entire stadium full of Valencia fans aimed monkey chants at Vinicius.

The continuous racist chants had the player on the edge and the reaction was triggered due to it.

Manager Carlo Ancelloti after the game revealed that the player was so upset he did not want to continue playing. He claimed that he told the referee during the game that he needs to stop the match.

Carlo Ancelotti said:

Vinicius no longer wanted to play and I told him he was right! I told the referee to stop the game.

La Liga has a big problem. It was a whole stadium calling him ‘monkey’, not just one person. The game should have stopped immediately.”

Ahead of the Champions League semi-final second-leg tie at the Etihad Stadium, Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti, has sprung a surprise by leaving Antonio Rudiger on the bench.

The defender didn’t allow City’s leading scorer, Erling Haaland, a sniff in the Santiago Bernabeu a week ago, so unless there’s a potential injury issue that hasn’t been disclosed, it seems an odd decision by the Italian to say the least.

Los Blancos have been in this position many times before of course, and when the big games come around, they always seem to find a way – whoever is in the starting line up.

On this occasion, the visitors start with Thibaut Courtois in goal, Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, David Alaba and Eduardo Camavinga in defence, a midfield three of Toni Kronos, Luka Modric and Fede Valverde with a fearsome attack consisting of Karim Benzema, Vini Jr. and Rodrygo.

Although it’s a winner-take-all tie at this point, Real can be relaxed in the knowledge that they are more than capable of beating any team on their day and by playing counter attacking football.

Pep Guardiola’s side are going to have to make all of the running in this one, and as we’ve seen so many times in the past, passing for passing’s sake isn’t always the best formula for winning a game.

When City are on top they need to make it count, or else Real are likely to break at pace and potentially put another dagger into the hosts dreams of a longed-for maiden Champions League title.

Man City and Real Madrid will clash once again on Wednesday night for a place in the Champions League final after the European giants drew 1-1 at the Bernabeu last week.

A matchup that was tipped as being a key one pre-match was how Walker would deal with Vinicius and the pair had a fierce battle throughout.

The Real Madrid star scored a stunner in the match and got the better of the England international on a few occasions but the pair showed respect to each other after the game with an embrace. The moment was picked up on camera and it has now been revealed what was said during their interaction.

Walker and Vini during last week’s clash

What was said during Walker and Vinicius’ interaction last week

Speaking at a press conference today, Walker told journalists what was said between the pair after the first leg.

“I went to hug him because he tried to rainbow flick me,” said Walker via the Mirror. “So it was kind of like ‘please don’t try that again, I don’t want to be a meme’.

“But boxers fight, have a good battle and then they shake hands after, and that’s the level of respect I have for him. It’s the same with any other player – when it’s a good game, you go and give them that level of respect because they deserve it.

“You show your respect, but there’s no respect after the first whistle. I’ll give him the respect he deserves after the final whistle, but before then it’s dog-eat-dog.”
