Wout Weghorst has scored a stunning goal to give Netherlands the lead against Ireland.

The striker beat two defenders with a brilliant turn as he received the ball from de Vrij near the half-way line and continued to his run before unleashing a powerful strike straight to the top right corner giving the goalkeeper no chance to save it.

Watch the brilliant skill and strike below:

The Burnley man joined Manchester United on loan last January but failed to make an impact scoring only 2 goals in 31 appearances.

He is currently at German side Hoffenheim on loan where he has scored 3 goals and assisted 1 in 11 games.

With just one win from their 10 Premier League games so far, Burnley’s paltry four-point haul arguably isn’t what Vincent Kompany would’ve been expecting from a side that walked the Championship last season.

A next game away at Arsenal offers no respite for the Clarets, though there is a run of games afterwards – West Ham, Sheffield United and Wolves – where they could pick up some points.

One player that won’t be helping them move up the table, however, is on-loan striker, Wout Weghorst.

The Dutchman, who’d spent a previous loan spell at Man United, was farmed out again, this time to Bundesliga side, Hoffenheim, but as with his United sojourn, things haven’t gone well.

According to WhoScored, the 31-year-old has only managed a solitary goal all season and, as Turkish outlet, Star, report, Weghorst isn’t happy with his lot.

There’s a suggestion that Turkish giants, Galatasaray are interested in the player’s services and Weghorst himself isn’t averse to their approaches.

Having already played for Besiktas in the Super Lig, a period where he was prolific scoring eight goals and providing four assists in 16 games according to transfermarkt, the Dutchman understands exactly what it takes to be a success in the division.

If all parties are agreeable, there’s no reason why a deal can’t be agreed in January.

AC Milan

Official, confirmed by club statement: AC Milan have fired Paolo Maldini – he’s no longer their director. The club has decided to sack Ricky Massara and legend Paolo Maldini to begin a new era with a new vision for the club.

Christian Pulisic is expected to leave this summer as Chelsea are open to letting him go. AC Milan are among the clubs interested in Pulisic. He was mentioned in recent talks held with Chelsea. For now, however, talks over Ruben Loftus-Cheek are on stand-by after Maldini’s sacking.

Al Hilal

Sources close to Al Hilal have denied that they’ve made an improved proposal to Lionel Messi. It’s still the same bid on the table that they made to the player back in April — close to €1B package salary for two years. Messi’s still waiting to make a final decision. For more exclusive info on his situation, click here to read yesterday’s guest column from Ben Jacobs.

Al Ittihad

Official: Karim Benzema has signed for Al Ittihad on a two year deal with the option for a further season. Benzema will earn almost €200m per season net salary, commercial deals included.

Al Ittihad delegation has presented an official bid to N’Golo Kante and his camp. Al Ittihad are confident of getting the green light soon. The deal is worth €100m inclusive of the image rights, commercial deals and a creative ‘investment portfolio’.

Arsenal

Reiss Nelson is now very close to agreeing a new contract with Arsenal. There has been interest from other clubs in England and Europe, but he’s now edging closer to accepting the offer of four years plus the option of one more to stay at the Emirates Stadium.

Reiss Nelson of Arsenal

Barcelona

Xavi on the latest on Lionel Messi: “Messi has the frying pan by it’s handle — it’s up to him. The situation is in the hands of Laporta and Jorge Messi, we’ll see how it ends.”

Inigo Martinez has just confirmed that he’s set to leave Athletic Club, and he will soon be announced as Barcelona’s first signing. A deal has been in place since March, while Martinez signed official documents in May. He’s signed a contract that will be valid until June 2025.

Gavi has been officially registered by La Liga, never been in doubt on Barcelona and player side despite some rumours of a potential free transfer to Premier League clubs. His new deal is valid until June 2026 with a release clause of €1bn.

Benfica

Angel Di Maria is now officially available as free agent. Benfica are dreaming of Di Maria’s return after his departure from Juventus, but there are several options available to him, and no decision yet. It’s an open race for his signature.

Borussia Monchengladbach

Official: Gerardo Seoane has been now appointed as new Borussia Monchengladbach head coach, signing a contract until 2026.

Brighton

Brighton are preparing a club-record bid for Levi Colwill worth close to £40m to be submitted soon. Chelsea turned down an offer of £30m last week. Chelsea have always had the same position: Colwill is part of long term project and they have no intention of selling him.

Celtic

Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley is attracting interest from clubs in England and Germany — with Brighton being one of the teams considering him for this summer. Decision time in the next days/weeks, waiting for concrete proposals.

Chelsea

Chelsea and Kai Havertz are on same page: the club are prepared to let him leave — while Havertz is open to trying new chapter elsewhere. Chelsea hope for more clubs to join the race for the German forward soon after Real Madrid registered their interest last week.

Chelsea have no plan to sell Levi Colwill, having already turned down £30m from Brighton for the defender. Brighton are now set to try again with a club-record £40m offer.

Chelsea are set to escalate talks over an alternative to Manuel Ugarte – click here to find out more!

Crystal Palace

Wilfried Zaha has not agreed terms with Al Nassr at this stage. The Saudi club has approached him but nothing done. Zaha’s priority seems to be to remain in Europe, and he’s attracting strong interest from Champions League clubs.

Crystal Palace are set to sign Jefferson Lerma. The Colombian’s free transfer from Bournemouth has been completed, documents are sealed on a deal until 2027.

Inter Milan

Hakan Calhanoglu on his future: “I’m gonna stay and extend my contract at Inter. I’ve no intention to leave the club, I’m very happy here.”

The Turkish midfielder has already signed a new contract valid until 2027, which will be officially confirmed after the Champions League final.

Liverpool

Alexis Mac Allister has completed his medical with Liverpool and is set to sign his contract today! He’ll put pen to paper on a deal until 2028.

Liverpool have been in direct contact with the agents of both Manu Kone and Khephren Thuram this week. Internal talks are taking place over official proposals. Liverpool have asked for some time to finalise the Alexis Mac Allister deal and then they’ll decide on further signings in midfield.

Click here to find out more about Liverpool’s midfield targets!

Manchester United

Manchester United are preparing for several key departures this summer. Wout Weghorst will be one, there is no intention to keep him after his loan. Everton and Spanish clubs are interested in the Burnley striker.

Harry Maguire is another player to keep an eye on – clubs were interested in January but Erik ten Hag said no at the time. Still, the feeling now is that the best solution is for him to leave this summer. There will be a meeting next week, but the idea is for Maguire to leave the club.

Nottingham Forest are in advanced talks to sign Dean Henderson on a permanent transfer after his loan at the City Ground. Terms have almost been agreed also on the player side. Manchester United, however, are not ready to give their final green light until David de Gea signs new deal.

Donny van de Beek will explore options on the market in the next weeks as he could leave Manchester United. Donny loves the club and is a big fan of Erik ten Hag, but he needs and wants to play more regularly next season. He should also be ready for pre-season after his long injury layoff.

Diogo Costa quotes after winning Taca de Portugal Final last weekend: “Man United deal? This is the internet…I love Porto — it’s the club of my life. I would give my life for it.”

Marseille

Saudi club Al Fateh have now submitted an official proposal to Alexis Sanchez. €10m salary per season has been offered to Marseille’s Chilean forward. The contract would be valid until 2024 with the option for a further season.

Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest are in advanced talks to sign Dean Henderson on a permanent transfer after his loan at the City Ground. Terms have almost been agreed also on the player side. Manchester United, however, are not ready to give their final green light until David de Gea signs new deal.

PSG

Christophe Galtier is set to be sacked by PSG, with Julian Nagelsmann currently their priority target and a concrete option to replace him. The Ligue 1 giants are working on bringing in the former Bayern Munich boss, who was also linked with Chelsea and Tottenham jobs in recent months.

Paris Saint-Germain interest in Marcus Thuram is concrete. He’s one of the names on the list at PSG. He’s available on a free this summer, and talks will follow soon. There are more clubs in the race, but not AC Milan or Atletico Madrid as things stand, despite reports to the contrary.

Real Madrid

Karim Benzema: “It really hurts… it’s not easy, I really wanted to retire here but sometimes directions change. I’ll always be watching Madrid games and I will always support Real Madrid, the best club in the world.”

Chelsea and Kai Havertz are on same page: the club are prepared to let him leave — while Havertz is open to trying new chapter elsewhere. Chelsea hope for more clubs to join the race for the German forward soon after Real Madrid registered their interest last week.

Could Real Madrid really win the race for Harry Kane? Click here to find out the latest, plus their interest in two other forwards!

Real Madrid’s plan is to present Brahim Diaz as their new signing already next week — first step is extending the contract until 2027, then to ‘unveil’ Brahim.

Real Madrid have sent documents to Nacho in order to tie him down to a new short term contract in the next hours. Nacho has told Inter Milan he won’t be joining them. He’s staying with Real Madrid until 2024.

Roma

AS Roma are prepared to unveil Houssem Aouar as their first summer signing on free transfer from Lyon. The Frenchman will sign a five-year deal, which was agreed in principle last month.

AS Roma have offered a five year deal to Evan Ndicka to join on free transfer this summer. Talks are ongoing for the Eintracht Frankfurt defender.

Sevilla

Official: Jose Luis Mendilibar has signed a new contract at Sevilla valid until June 2024. The club extended his contract for one more year after their Europa League win.

Tottenham

Officially confirmed yesterday: Ange Postecoglou is the new Tottenham manager, joining on a deal valid until June 2027.

Daniel Levy: “Ange brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play. He understands the importance of the link from the academy, crucial for the club.”

Rennes director Maurice announces that Joe Rodon will return to Tottenham as “buy option clause won’t be triggered. As for Joe, there is a very high purchase option. Evidently, it won’t be possible for us to raise that amount.”

Toulouse

Toulouse have confirmed the signing of Cesar Gelabert on a free transfer, with a four year deal sealed for the former Real Madrid academy talent.

Although there are still three Premier League games for Man United to tackle before they step out at Wembley against neighbours Man City, the carrot of a first-ever all Manchester FA Cup final will surely be whetting the appetite of many players from both sides.

Though domestic competitions appear to have lost some lustre over the years, a titanic tussle between the two north west giants is expected and the showpiece is likely to produce one of the most watchable finals for years.

The Red Devils have the added incentive of potentially being the team that ends Man City’s treble aspirations too, and Stan Collymore thinks that there’s all to play for in terms of getting a place in the starting XI.

“You could argue there will be two, maybe three positions, up for grabs in Man United’s squad; one of which being who will start as the left-winger,” Collymore said in an exclusive CaughtOffside interview.

“You would assume that Wout Weghorst won’t be trusted to lead the line, so Marcus Rashford is likely to start up top with Antony on the right-hand side, and if that is the case, it would mean either Jadon Sancho or Alejandro Garnacho starts on the left.”

It’s a delicate balancing act that Erik ten Hag will have to undertake given the enormity of the task ahead of him.

Having already guided his team to one final – and won it – this season, the Dutchman clearly has what it takes in terms of mentality, decision making under pressure and the ability to ensure his team hang in there in the big moments.

Ultimately, however, his choices on the day could reflect well or badly, and Collymore believes that one player in particular has to get the nod.

“Personally, although I am a big fan of Sancho, I would start with Garnacho,” he added.

“He’s young, quick and very technical so I think he’d provide the likes of Kyle Walker with a lot more to contend with. Garnacho is Man United’s maverick; unlike Sancho, he is arrogant and bursting with confidence, and although an occasion as big as the FA Cup final may overwhelm some players, I see the young Argentine thriving in that kind of environment.”

Manchester United January loan signing Wout Weghorst is of interest to Besiktas J.K. this summer.

Football Insider report that his parent club Burnley do not see Weghorst in their plans going forward as they prepare for life in the Premier League next season.

The same outlet has also claimed recently the Red Devils will not look to sign the Dutch forward on a permanent basis in the coming transfer window.

In January, the Dutch international put pen to paper on a half-season loan with Erik ten Hag’s side.

It’s been a poor campaign for the 30-year-old, who only has one league goal to his name with Man United. That’s from a total of 15 Premier League matches.

Weghorst was on loan with Besiktas earlier this season before he made the switch to Old Trafford. His stint in Turkey was much more successful, bagging eight goals and four assists from 16 Super Lig appearances.

A move could benefit both parties, the striker finds a new destination with Man United and Burnley seemingly not interested in having him. On Besiktas’ side, they get a player who’s proven to be an effective asset for them earlier this season.

Manchester United will not look to sign Wout Weghorst on a permanent deal this summer.

Football Insider has claimed that Weghorst will indeed return to Burnley, with manager Vincent Kompany having to make a decision on whether to keep him on or not.

The Dutchman joined Man United in January on a loan deal until the end of the 2022/23 campaign to help bolster their striking options.

In 28 appearances across all competitions, the forward has only found the back of the net on two separate occasions for Erik ten Hag’s side.

For someone that was brought in to get goals and lead the line at Old Trafford, those numbers are simply not good enough.

Weghorst will go down as one of the unsuccessful signings in Ten Hag’s early tenure at the club thus far, but he’ll likely look to the next transfer window to find a new forward.

Kompany may feel that the 30-year-old is a valuable asset for the Clarets as they prepare for life in the Premier League next season.

However, it would also be understandable if the striker’s loan with the Red Devils has put him off somewhat.

Manchester United loanee Wout Weghourst is said to be hopeful about turning his loan move into a permanent one this summer.

The Times claimed that the forward has held positive talks with the club about signing with the Red Devils beyond the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

He made the loan move to Old Trafford until the end of the season last January after his parent club Burnley agreed to terminate his initial loan with Turkish outfit Besiktas J.K.

Weghorst is yet to score in the league for Man United but has managed to find the back of the net once in both the Europa League and League Cup respectively.

With such little impact in front of goal, it’s hard to see why Erik ten Hag would want to keep hold of the forward on a permanent basis.

If the club is to set their sights on being major title challengers on a regular basis, they’re going to need better options in attack than the Dutchman.

The 30-year-old was brought in to be reinforcement for the striker position and from a goalscoring perspective, you have to say that he’s failed to do that.

Manchester United are unlikely to keep on-loan striker Wout Weghorst beyond this season.

That’s according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who believes the Dutchman’s time at Old Trafford is coming to an end.

Having joined the Red Devils on a short-term loan from Burnley in January, Weghorst, 30, was tasked with filling the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo, who successfully pushed for a transfer away from the club.

However, despite arriving and being familiar with Erik Ten Hag’s demands and style of play, the 30-year-old has struggled in front of goal. Scoring just two goals in 25 appearances, it is obvious the Netherlands international doesn’t quite have what it takes to be Manchester United’s main goalscorer.

And consequently, with his numbers well below what is needed to restore the Red Devils back to their former glory, it is likely the 20-time league winners will allow the forward to return to Vincent Kompany’s Burnley once the season ends later this month.

“I think Manchester United aren’t planning on signing Wout Weghorst on a permanent basis,” O’Rourke told GiveMeSport.

“It was a stop-gap move late in the last January transfer window just to fill the void following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure.

“He’s come in and done a decent job, but he hasn’t scored enough goals. If he’d had scored more goals and maybe played better, there might have been a better chance of the deal becoming permanent.”

Happy Monday guys, I hope you enjoy my latest exclusive Daily Briefing – click here to subscribe if you want this and other exclusive transfer news ad-free and straight to your inbox every morning!

AC Milan

Chelsea wanted Rafael Leao last August but then they invested in Mykhaylo Mudryk instead. Man City were never in the race recently. He’s very happy at Milan, the agreement is very close but not completed or signed yet. We have to wait and see at the end of the season.

Arsenal

I’ve mentioned Arsenal and Chelsea’s interest in Yunus Musah and it is the case that they are following Musah since January; Inter as well. At the moment it’s just scouting and not advanced yet, but Musah has good chances to move this summer.

There’s nothing advanced with Arsenal and Marc Guehi, but they are monitoring him, it’s just normal scouting. No decision has been made and there’s nothing concrete at this stage on Guehi but many top clubs are following him.

There have been reports of Dusan Vlahovic’s agent offering him to Arsenal, but I’m not aware of that, honestly. Arsenal are not working to sign Vlahovic at this stage and there’s absolutely nothing to report on that front.

Barcelona

Sergio Busquets is now expected to stay at Barcelona for one more season. Clear feeling waiting on the full agreement, talks ongoing.

Xavi: “Busi for me is key, crucial. He’s tactically perfect footballer and I hope he stays, but… it depends on him.”

Bayern Munich

Thomas Tuchel on Sadio Mane’s difficult moment: “The situation is as it is. He has to keep his head up and keep working. Mane has scored countless goals in the toughest league in the world.”

Oliver Kahn on his future: “Of course I’ll still be here at Bayern next year. No doubts.”

Brentford

Things with Ivan Toney could move in the summer. At the moment there’s not something concrete with any of Manchester United, Chelsea or Newcastle, but I’m told he’s open to make a top club move in the summer so it’s one to watch for sure. However, there’s no clarity on the player’s asking price yet.

Ivan Toney to move this summer?

Brighton

Klopp: “We have no chance to enter into the top four, of course not. Brighton played one of the best football games this weekend I’ve ever seen in my life, I’ve to say. Roberto De Zerbi, wow.”

Chelsea

Chelsea wanted Rafael Leao last August but then they invested in Mykhaylo Mudryk instead. Man City were never in the race recently. He’s very happy at Milan, the agreement is very close but not completed or signed yet. We have to wait and see at the end of the season.

There’s a chance that Yunus Musah could leave Valencia this summer and Chelsea are alongside Arsenal and Inter as clubs who’ve been scouting him.

Jurgen Klopp on Chelsea: “I feel a little bit for Chelsea but it’s also good to see that you can’t just bring top players together and it works out. You cannot have two dressing rooms. You have to create relationships.”

Do you have faith in Chelsea’s transfer strategy? Give me your thoughts in the comments!

Galatasaray

Nicolo Zaniolo’s agent Claudio Vigorelli: “He was on Barcelona list on January, it’s true — they appreciated him but unfortunately it was not possible to proceed due to financial reasons. He needed to change air, he’s happy at Galatasaray”

Louis Saha does not think Wout Weghorst deserves to be signed permanently by Manchester United.

The former United and Fulham hitman has not pulled any punches while assessing Weghorst’s performances for the Red Devils.

Brought in by Erik Ten Hag as an emergency attacking signing in January following Cristiano Ronaldo’s surprise exit, the Netherlands international has been tasked with leading the Red Devils’ line.

Despite working hard and playing the role of a deep laying forward, Weghorst has struggled to find the back of the net. Scoring just two goals in 21 appearances, it is clear the 30-year-old is a long way off the prolific marksmen the United faithful have become accustomed to over the years.

And weighing in on Weghorst’s poor output, Saha, the striker’s latest critic, doesn’t believe the on-loan Burnley forward ‘is the answer’ to United’s problems.

“In terms of numbers, it’s clear that Wout Weghorst needs to score more goals because that is what a club like Manchester United need. When the ball is coming through from Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford or Antony, you need a striker who can score 15-20 goals a season,” Saha told Paddy Power, as quoted by MEN.

“However, it’s not good enough that he’s scored twice in 20 games, and I don’t see that changing before the end of the season. In terms of his mentality, he works hard, but that is not good enough.

“For me, he hasn’t done enough to show people that he deserves his spot in the team beyond the summer. The manager has a better idea as he sees him in training every day, but for me, Wout is not the answer.”
