Despite a home defeat against Leeds United at the weekend, Enzo Maresca’s Leicester City side are still flying high at the top of the Championship table.

Though they have Ipswich Town just three points behind them, the gap between the Foxes and Daniel Farke’s Leeds in third is a cavernous 11 points.

It would take a monumental drop off in form and results for Leicester to be caught, however, with so much of the season to go, any loss of confidence could absolutely be capitalised on.

One way to keep things fresh and players on their toes is to bring in others, and that could be something that Maresca is considering for the January transfer window.

According to TeamTalk, Leicester are one of a handful of clubs – which includes Premier League outfits Burnley and Crystal Palace – to be keeping tabs on Villarreal hit-man, Ben Brereton Diaz.

It’s reported that the former Blackburn star hasn’t really settled at the Yellow Submarine since a summer switch, and the La Liga club would be willing to loan him in the new year in order that he’s able to pick up some significant game time.

With Leicester believed to want a replacement for Kelechi Iheanacho, a move for Brereton Diaz would appear to make perfect sense.

From the player’s perspective, helping to drive Leicester’s promotion charge would be an obvious attraction.

Inside Spain is a weekly instalment brought to you by Football España, providing an insight into all of the major stories coming out of the rich and intense climes of La Liga and beyond.

Turkish teenager Arda Guler has been the talk of Europe for several weeks, with a number of clubs interested in signing the 18-year-old. In the last week, it became a political battle between the big two in Spain.

Late last Thursday night Barcelona President Joan Laporta said they were confident of signing one of the best creative talents in Europe, and were very much the favourites come Monday morning. But if there is one thing Real Madrid, and particularly Florentino Perez enjoy just as much as beating Barcelona on the pitch, it’s outdoing them off it.

Perez supposedly called Guler in order to convince him, and it is little wonder he was keen on a move to the Santiago Bernabeu. The deal Real Madrid are reportedly offering him could go over €50m, without including his salary, despite the fact his release clause is only €17.5m. Perez was reportedly furious when Barcelona beat Los Blancos to Neymar Junior’s signature over a decade ago, and since they have won the race for Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo Goes and Endrick Felipe – Guler is set to be the latest.

Meanwhile Fede Valverde looked like he was set to watch Guler from the stands at the start of the season – and that may well still be the case, if his suspension holds. However he will not face legal action for allegedly punching Villarreal midfielder Alex Baena after a match in April. The case was dropped at Baena’s recollection of the events didn’t add up.

Otherwise Villarreal have been winning. Pau Torres and Nicolas Jackson look set to bring in at least €70m in from their moves, while they have already made five signings for €2.5m, all of which look like smart additions – the latest is Ben Brereton Diaz.

Atletico Madrid are set to sign Cesar Azpilicueta on a permanent deal, after announcing Caglar Soyuncu on Wednesday, while Barcelona also confirmed the signing of Athletic Club defender Inigo Martinez on a free. Barcelona aren’t done there, at least if Xavi Hernandez has his way, he has demanded more business from the club before the window shuts.

Good morning and welcome to Tuesday’s Daily Briefing – thanks for reading and click here to subscribe for this and more exclusive content straight to your inbox!

Arsenal

Bayer Leverkusen are set to renew their interest in Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka this summer (Mirror)

Aston Villa

Former Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi could leave Marseille in the summer, it’s concrete possibility as he’s attracting interest in Premier League.

Aston Villa have been tracking him for a long time — there are also other clubs keen on signing Guendouzi.

Atletico Madrid

Diego Simeone on his future: “I have another year of contract with Atletico Madrid — we’ll see what will happens. There are always incentives because in a club like this, new players, change the system and more.”

Barcelona

Barcelona want Lionel Messi and they are trying to make it work with Financial Fair Play. The main way to do this will be to reduce the salaries of stars like Sergio Busquets, but they could also sell players like Raphinha. None of this will be easy, but they are working on it, they are talking to La Liga, and Messi’s situation is open. Al-Hilal’s offer is also there, and there’s also interest from Inter Miami in the MLS, but Messi’s priority remains European football.

Raphinha to leave Barcelona?

Xavi is happy with Raphinha, but Barca feel there is an opportunity to make big money from his sale. There is nothing concrete on his future, and it will depend on Messi, but there has been long-term interest from Chelsea and Newcastle, so it’s an option for the club to consider.

Fabricio Diaz on potential Barca move: “It’s a dream that a top club as big as Barcelona is eyeing me, it’s fantastic. I am calm, my agent will find the best option for me.”

Bayern Munich

Noussair Mazraoui: “If you look at the whole second half of the season, I’m playing in the team because of injuries. I’m telling everyone at the club, including the coaches: when I’m needed, I’m ready.”

The former Ajax right-back wants to play more after a difficult season at Bayern, a decision on his future will be made soon.

Blackburn Rovers

Ben Brereton Diaz has just confirmed his plan to leave Blackburn on free transfer: “I won’t continue here next year.”

The Chile international is joining Villarreal on four year deal as free agent.

Chelsea

Chelsea could use Napoli’s interest in Christian Pulisic to their advantage as they target a move for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen (Mail)

Leeds United

Joel Robles future will be decided at the end of the season — he’s expected to play the final games of the season after his good performance vs Man City. Robles’ contract expires in June, more than two European clubs are informed on the situation also waiting on Leeds.

Liverpool

Arthur has confirmed that he will be leaving Liverpool when his loan comes to an end: “I’m ready for a new challenge. I hope to say goodbye to Liverpool by playing some minutes. I want to say thanks to fans, club and Klopp who always treated me well. I feel very good now. La Liga could be an option for me now.”

Manchester City

Pep Guardiola on Ilkay Gundogan: “He’s so smart, so clever, so competitive. Trust me, he’s one of the best players I ever trained in my career as a whole package. He’s top class.”

Gundogan, out of contract this summer, will decide his future in the next weeks; as Barca want him but City will insist on keeping him too.

Good morning guys and welcome to today’s Daily Briefing! Click here to subscribe and get this straight to your inbox five mornings a week!

AC Milan

Olivier Giroud’s agents met with the AC Milan board on Wednesday in order to complete the agreement on a new contract. An agreement was already in place, as expected after the World Cup, and now the parties have also agreed also on the final clauses. Giroud will earn a €3.8m salary net plus add-ons from next season, and will sign the new deal in April.

Bayern Munich

Matthijs De Ligt has become the first Bayern player to have spoken out on the departure of Julian Nagelsmann: “I didn’t see it coming, I was surprised,” he said. “We are second in the league, in the quarter-finals of the German cup and in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. There’s still everything to play for. I’ve sent him a message.”

Regarding Joao Cancelo, even though Thomas Tuchel has just arrived, I understand that the club still won’t trigger the €70m option to buy on the player because it’s too expensive. However, Bayern may be willing to negotiate with Man City at the end of the season. Barcelona are waiting in the wings and they have an excellent relationship with Cancelo’s agent, Jorge Mendes. A lot will depend on their FFP situation of course.

Chelsea

As we already know, Reece James signed a new deal with Chelsea in September. He remains one of the English faces of Chelsea’s project and they trust him. Although there has been rumoured interest from Real Madrid, at this stage I expect him to stay with the Blues because Real Madrid’s focus is on different targets such as Jude Bellingham.

Chelsea look set to be in the market for a striker this summer, but my current information is that there’s still nothing advanced in this regard. We can expect a ‘domino effect’ once the first deal is done, but the Osimhen situation is gonna be slow, and the same for Harry Kane due to Spurs’ coach situation. Nothing decided yet on Vlahovic, because we still don’t know if clubs like Tottenham or Juventus will play Champions League next season… all these things will make the difference. It’s still really early to speculate.

Chelsea are among the clubs eyeing a move for Brighton wonderkid Evan Ferguson – click here to find out more!

Inter

Alessandro Bastoni’s agent, Tinti, met with the Inter board on Wednesday to discuss a contract extension as the player’s current deal expires in June 2024. “More meetings will follow,” Tinti noted. “He’s an Inter fan and he wants to stay, so fans should not panic at all.”

Tottenham wanted him last summer, but nothing happened because then, as now, he wanted to stay at with the Nerazzurri. Negotiations continue.

Liverpool

The Reds really appreciate Portuguese star Matheus Nunes and remain keen on him. They already discussed him as a potential target before he signed for Wolves.

Manchester City

The news that both Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish have spoken to Jude Bellingham isn’t a surprise. Haaland is a friendly, funny guy as is Bellingham. They have a good relationship, but the same can be said for Bellingham and some Liverpool and Real Madrid players too. I don’t think this makes a difference to be honest, because top players always pick the project they like. If they already have good friends at the club, that’s just a positive bonus for all concerned.

Manchester United

Marcus Rashford clearly isn’t happy about certain articles that have been written regarding his supposed salary requests. He tweeted: “Another non-story flying around about my advisers and me making demands… It’s complete nonsense! My aim and the aim of the club is to finish as high as possible in the league and try to win a cup or two.”

Some more good news for fans of the Red Devils. David de Gea wants to stay and Man United want to keep him. The club want to structure the keeper’s salary slightly differently from before so discussions are continuing on that and length of the contract, but all parties remain optimistic a deal can be done.

Regarding strikers, it’s my understanding that United want to sign an ‘important’ front man this summer, and one who is a physical type of player. Tottenham will fight hard to keep Harry Kane, but he and Victor Osimhen would be the perfect fit. Of course, it will depend on the budget for each player, and who will be the owners of the club in the summer.

Manchester United are “obsessed” with this in-form striker – click here to find out more from Ben Jacobs!

Napoli

There have been many stories circling in the press regarding strikers, but my current information is that there’s still nothing advanced in this regard.

Victor Osimhen is having an outstanding season for Napoli

Newcastle

A midfielder and a winger remain the two main priorities, for the club. I think they’ll be busy but will be smart with their dealings in the transfer market as always. Scott McTominay remains a player the board of the club and Eddie Howe really like, but Man United rejected their approaches in January so let’s see what they’ll decide in the summer!

Real Madrid

Tchouameni on his recent struggles: “I am confident, I know what I can do. There can be difficult moments in an athlete’s career, and it’s the first time it happened to me — but I’m still learning. There’s a lot of competition at Real and you need to be good to play.”

Tottenham

Spurs released a statement on Wednesday regarding Director, Fabio Paratici’s situation, after FIFA’s position on banning him was extended worldwide and was made public. It read: ‘We are urgently seeking further clarification from FIFA as to the details of the extension and its variance from the FIGC sanction.’

It followed FIFA’s own statement regarding the situation: ‘Following a request by Italian FA, the disciplinary committee has decided to extend sanctions imposed on several football officials to have worldwide effect.’ An appeal will be crucial to understand the implications for the Tottenham director’s immediate future.

There’s no update yet on the club’s managerial situation, firstly because of the Paratici issue and secondly because it’s the right time to explore all the options and then decide on the right candidate. Spurs will take their time and that’s why Christian Stellini will remain until the end of the season. Luis Enrique is open to joining English clubs but it depends on the project. He wants something long-term not just short-term, and he wants to return as soon as possible.

Where next for Antonio Conte? He’s being eyed as the “perfect” candidate for one Serie A side…

Villarreal

There have been no doubts on a move to La Liga for Blackburn’s Ben Brereton Díaz since January. The striker will be unveiled as a new Villarreal player in the next few months after full agreement was reached on a contract that will be valid until June 2027.

Happy Monday guys, welcome to the latest edition of the Daily Briefing – click here to subscribe and get this and other exclusive stories straight to your inbox, completely ad-free, five mornings a week!

Anderlecht

Anderlecht are set to sign Harry Toffolo on loan from Nottingham Forest – a deal has been agreed between the two clubs. Toffolo is already in Belgium to reach full agreement and sign his contract.

Arsenal

Arsenal have made a second bid for Moises Caicedo, £70m fee with add ons included, but it has again been immediately rejected by Brighton. If Arsenal decide to bid again in the final 48 hours of the transfer window, it could have to be a club-record offer.

Caicedo would love to join Arsenal, he wants a top club move this January as it was his biggest dream. Still, in my experience, Brighton will not change their stance just because of player statement: it has to be a very good proposal according to their position, otherwise they are prepared to fight and keep the player.

Manchester City “really like” this Arsenal player – click here to find out more!

What’s the latest on Moises Caicedo’s future as Arsenal change their transfer approach for the Brighton star? Click here for full details!

Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid could try to sign Caglar Soyuncu from Leicester City if Felipe ends up leaving to join Nottingham Forest.

Brighton

Tariq Lamptey will not be moving to Sporting Lisbon as Brighton would only let him leave on a permanent deal. Both Lyon and Sporting have left the negotiations, Lamptey could now end up staying unless things change.

Brighton have completed the signing of Swedish talent Yasin Ayari. A deal was agreed with AIK last week for €6m — contract completed. Ayari is now in England to undergo medical tests and sign the documents.

Roberto De Zerbi: “Caicedo is a good guy. We will see. We hope he stays with us but this question for the club and Moises. In life you can make mistakes. We will see the best solution for the club, for Caicedo and for us. I would like Moises to finish the season with us, but we are ready to go forward without him. I respect his decision — I can’t be also the chairman, so we will see in the next days.”

Chelsea

Chelsea have scheduled new talks with Benfica over Enzo Fernandez. The Blues are now fully focused on Fernandez instead of Moises Caicedo. Chelsea’s offer could reach €120m – they’re prepared to pay, but it depends on Benfica president Rui Costa, who wants to keep the player. Benfica’s position is clear, but Chelsea are going in really strong, they are prepared to offer crazy money. Todd Boehly is really keen to get it done quickly, as they anticipate other European clubs moving for Enzo in the summer. As for the player, Enzo will not make a problem for Benfica, but he is ready to join Chelsea, personal terms won’t be an issue.

Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea?

Malo Gusto to Chelsea has been officially announced. He’ll remain with Lyon until the end of the season, and then join Chelsea in July for €30m fee plus add-ons. He’s signed a seven year and half contract after completing his medical tests on Saturday.

Malo Gusto: “I chose Chelsea because it’s a very big club and I very like the big project. Very happy to be here – I also like the city.”

I’m not aware of any attempt or bid from Manchester United, despite some reports that they were in contact. It was another English club trying to sign Malo Gusto, I’m told; but Man United were not working to sign him.

Chelsea could turn their attention to Dusan Vlahovic in the summer, according to Ben Jacobs – click here to find out more!

Everton

Everton were close to signing Ben Brereton Diaz last summer, they wanted him but at the end there was no agreement between all parties. Villarreal are now set to sign him on free transfer in June, with deals in place for both him and Denis Suarez.

Fulham

Fulham have improved their offer for Sasa Lukic: £10m fresh bid on the table as they hope to get deal done after Torino signed Ivan Ilic as new midfielder on deal hijacked after Marseille had it done. Personal terms are another key step – waiting for the player to decide.

Inter Milan

Manchester United don’t want to sell Victor Lindelof to Inter Milan, so they will now look for other targets. Chris Smalling is an option for the summer, not for January, so they will look at Tiago Djalo from Lille, as well as some other defenders based in Serie A.

Leicester City

Official, confirmed. Leicester sign Tete as new winger from Olympique Lyon as revealed on Friday.

“He is currently due to return to Shakhtar on 1 July,” club confirms.

Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp announces Liverpool will not sign any other player in January: “Nothing will happen in this transfer window, not at all. It’s all good with this squad.”

Let’s see if Liverpool stick with this plan, but for the moment my understanding is that there are no negotiations over new signings ongoing, all the focus is on the summer for Jude Bellingham.

Lyon

Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas: “I’ve said no — I rejected PSG proposal and it’s guaranteed: Rayan Cherki will stay at Olympique Lyon.”

Manchester United

Manchester United do not want to let Victor Lindelof go. The defender remains part of Erik ten Hag’s squad despite interest from both Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid in this transfer window.

I’m told Manchester United have received ten proposals for Anthony Elanga this January, but no green light to let him go just yet.

Marseille

Official, completed. Azzedine Ounahi has completed a permanent move to Olympique Marseille. He joins from Angers for a €8m fee plus €2m add ons and sell-on clause. His contract runs until 2027.

Newcastle United

Done deal, official: Newcastle United sign Anthony Gordon on a permanent deal from Everton. Contract signed, deal agreed on £40m plus £5m add ons.

Flamengo have turned down new bid from Newcastle for Matheus Franca — it was worth €20m total package. Newcastle want Matheus but they will not overpay, clear message as last bid was close to ‘internal’ Brazilian market release clause worth €25m.

Newcastle could come back in for James Maddison in the summer, says Ben Jacobs – click here to read more!

Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest are now in advanced talks to sign Felipe as new centre back, discussions ongoing with Atletico Madrid.

Nottingham Forest are closing in on deal to sign Jonjo Shelvey from Newcastle. Talks are at an advanced stage, and it could be completed soon as Newcastle are open to letting him leave.

MLS side Chicago Fire have submitted an official proposal to Nottingham Forest/Olympiacos player Hwang Ui-jo to make him their Designated Player. Discussions are now ongoing in order to find an agreement.

PSG

Milan Skriniar confirms: “Yes, it’s true — I have signed with PSG. I’m waiting for the clubs to reach an agreement.”

Skriniar has signed as a free agent for June — but PSG want to bring his move forward to January.

Roma

Roma director Pinto: “Zaniolo wants to leave. We reached an agreement with Bournemouth but he has rejected. It’s really difficult for us, we hope to find a solution in the final 48h of the market.”

Sevilla

Sevilla are set to sign Pape Gueye from Olympique Marseille — deal agreed on loan, as Spanish press called today. It’s almost done. Gueye will be back to OM at the end of the current season as there’s no buy option clause included.

Sporting Lisbon

Sporting are advancing in negotiations to sign Hector Bellerin as replacement for Pedro Porro who’s joining Tottenham. Sporting are in direct talks with Barcelona, also with Bellerin agent on personal terms. Talks are progressing well.

Sporting are set to sign Ousmane Diomande from FC Midtjylland, he’s gonna travel for medical soon. €7.5m fee, add-ons up to €12.5m and 20% sell-on clause guaranteed for FC Midtjylland.

Tottenham

Many clubs are interested in Piero Hincapie in England, Italy (Napoli and Inter) and other countries. Tottenham have been following him for long time but no official bid has been made in the last hours, despite rumours to the contrary.

Understand Sevilla are in advanced talks over a loan deal for Bryan Gil from Tottenham. He’d join until the end of the season, no buy option. Negotiations are progressing, Sevilla are pushing, and are confident of getting it done in the final 48 hours of the transfer window.

Udinese

Udinese are close to signing Florian Thauvin as free agent — deal at final stages for former Marseille and Tigres player. Thauvin would replace Gerard Deulofeu who’s unavailable due to a new injury.

Good morning guys, and welcome to today’s edition of my Daily Briefing – click here to subscribe and get this in your inbox five mornings a week!

Arsenal

Despite reports to the contrary, I’m not aware of second Arsenal bid for Moises Caicedo submitted on Saturday, let’s see on Sunday what happens. The last bid was the one I mentioned on Friday: £60m, rejected.

Brighton insist they want to keep Caicedo, so it’s not an easy one. Arsenal are pushing on Caicedo deal also on player side, Chelsea already had conversations on player side but their last bid was £55m ten days ago; rejected too.

Arsenal will continue to pursue West Ham midfielder Declan Rice even if they sign Moises Caicedo this January (Telegraph)

Aston Villa

Understand Ludwig Augustinsson’s loan to Aston Villa will be terminated as he will join Mallorca on loan until the end of the season. An agreement has been reached and it’s set to be done.

Borussia Dortmund

As Christian Falk hinted at in his column – here – of course Borussia Dortmund would love Jude Bellingham to stay, it’s normal; but I keep my feeling speaking to sources of Bellingham expected to leave in the summer. There are too many top clubs keen on signing him, so it’s going to be more than difficult for BVB to keep him.

Celtic

Atlanta United are now trying to hijack Urawa Red Diamonds deal for Giorgos Giakoumakis: understand new $4.7m proposal has been accepted by Celtic. Personal terms still under discussion but Atlanta have now DP spot and want to get it done.

Chelsea

Understand Malo Gusto has completed medical tests as new Chelsea player, after landing in London early yesterday morning. Contract until June 2029 — Chelsea will pay a fee close to €30m but Malo Gusto will only move to Stamford Bridge in July, staying at Lyon until end of the season.

Chelsea had a bid for Moises Caicedo rejected ten days ago. Arsenal are pushing, but I’m not aware of a second bid from them yet. It’s an open race, a crazy situation, so let’s see what will happen before Deadline Day.

Chelsea wanted Anthony Gordon in the summer but did not return with an approach for him this January – he’s now on the brink of leaving Everton for Newcastle. It will be official soon.

Espanyol

Denis Suarez, set to join Espanyol from Celta Vigo on deal valid until the end of the season. And then, Denis Suarez has already an agreement in place with Villarreal until 2026 to join them in June.

Everton

Everton have all contracts signed with Sean Dyche. The former Burnley boss is set to be unveiled as the new head coach to replace Frank Lampard – it will be official soon. Dyche will become new Toffees manager on a two year and half contract, as expected.

Fulham

Fulham submitted new bid on Friday for Fluminense midfielder Andre. The offer is a loan with obligation to buy clause for €20m total package — personal terms have been sent to the agent. Andre’s agents are already in UK, with talks set to continue with Fluminense.

Leeds United

Weston McKennie to Leeds, here we go! Understand Leeds will pay €1.2m loan fee — deal will include buy option clause for €33m plus add ons. Leeds president Radrizzani unlocked the deal with Juventus in the night. McKennie has agreed personal terms with Leeds and he’ll now travel to England for his medical in the next 24 hours.

As Ben Jacobs explained earlier in the week, Jesse Marsch was key to this deal due to his desire to partner McKennie with Tyler Adams – click here to find out more.

Leicester City

Tete is now set to sign the contract as new Leicester player — it will be valid until the end of the season. A deal was agreed on Friday, medical tests have now been completed, and there’ll be an official statement soon.

Both Everton and West Ham United have missed out on the signing of sought-after striker Ben Brereton-Diaz.

Journalist Alan Nixon had previously reported (via his Patreon) that both Everton and West Ham were in the race for Blackburn Rovers forward Brereton-Diaz, along with the likes of Leeds United, Sevilla and Nice.

Blackburn had set an asking price of £15 million for the 23-year-old, which was considerably higher than the interested clubs were expecting, as the player’s contract expires in the summer.

Brereton-Diaz snubs Premier League for Spain

The Premier League sides, namely the Toffees and the Irons, had set their sights on the goalscorer in a bid to boost their chances of survival this season. However, the Chile international has seemingly snubbed the chance to play in the top flight and has instead opted for a switch to the La Liga.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Brereton-Diaz will join Villareal in the summer as a free agent. The deal is “sealed and completed”.

Newcastle United and West Ham United have been linked with a move for the Blackburn Rovers attacker Ben Brereton Diaz.

According to a report from the Sun, the Championship outfit will consider selling the 23-year-old forward this month but his suitors will have to cough up a fee of around £15 million.

The Chilean International will be a free agent at the end of the season and it remains to be seen whether the likes of Newcastle and West Ham are prepared to pay that kind of money for a player who will be available on a free transfer in just 6 months.

Brereton Diaz has been in impressive form for Blackburn Rovers this season scoring 10 goals across all competitions. He managed to net 22 times in the league last year.

Both the Magpies and the Hammers could use attacking reinforcements and the 23-year-old could prove to be an excellent acquisition.

Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak have had their fair share of injury issues and Eddie Howe could use another reliable goalscorer on his side.

On the other hand, West Ham have found a difficult to score consistently with the likes of Michail Antonio and Gianluca Scamacca struggling to hit top form.

The Blackburn Rovers star could improve both teams during the second half of the season and it will be interesting to see whether they are prepared to shell out the asking price.

Both clubs certainly have the financial resources to pay the reported £15m asking price for Diaz.

West Ham United have reportedly decided not to meet Blackburn Rovers’ asking price for Ben Brereton Diaz this January.

The Championship side are asking for £15million for the Chile international, despite the fact that he’ll soon be a free agent as his contract expires in the summer.

This is according to a report from the Sun, who state that Blackburn’s £15m asking price has put off clubs like West Ham and Newcastle from bidding for Brereton Diaz this winter.

This surely means the Hammers will now have to wait until the summer to try a move for Brereton Diaz, and while that could mean snapping him up on a free transfer, it could also mean more competition in the battle for his signature.

Brereton Diaz has impressed at Championship level and looks like he would be a fine addition to a mid-table Premier League club, though it remains to be seen who would be able to tempt him to join.

The 23-year-old has 10 goals in 29 games in all competitions so far this season, following on from the 22 in 38 games in all competitions he scored last term.

It’s easy to imagine the English-born Chilean being a fine addition to give David Moyes’ side something a little different in attack.

Everton are looking to bring in attacking reinforcements this month.

According to Simon Phillips from GiveMeSport, Everton manager Frank Lampard has now urged the club hierarchy to sign the Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz.

He said to GMS: “Strikers have been a priority for Everton. Lampard was disappointed he didn’t get one in the summer. One of those was Ben Brereton Díaz from Blackburn in the Championship.

“He’s got a contract that, at the moment, is ending in June 2023, with no sign of a confirmed extension. So, Lampard again has put that name to the board.”

The 23-year-old was outstanding for the championship outfit last season and he managed to score 22 league goals. He has done reasonably well this season as well with 10 goals across all competitions so far.

The player has a contract with Blackburn until the summer and he could be available for a knockdown price this month.

The championship outfit will not want to lose the Chilean on a free transfer at the end of the season and therefore they could consider cashing in on the player before the January window closes.

Everton have had a disappointing campaign so far and they are currently 18th in the league table.

The Toffees have managed to score just 14 goals in 18 league matches and it is clear that they will have to add more goals to the site if they want to survive relegation this season.

Lampard wanted to sign the 23-year-old at the start of the season as well and it will be interesting to see if the club hierarchy is willing to fulfil his transfer wish this month.

Diaz has the quality to thrive in the Premier League and he is young enough to improve further. Given his contract situation, this feels like the ideal time to snap him up on a bargain.
