Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise is still a transfer target for long-term admirers Chelsea despite the star signing a new contract.

The Blues pursued the winger during the summer and it looked at one point that the former Chelsea youth player would be returning to Stamford Bridge after the West London club paid his release clause.

However, the French international ended up staying and signed a new contract at Selhurst Park, worth £100k-a-week.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, this transfer saga isn’t over as Chelsea are said to want to sign the France U21 star and are planning a new move in the 2024 summer transfer window.

The Eagles will be demanding a lot more money than the £35m release clause this summer and that is one big benefit of Olise signing a new deal.

Crystal Palace will have been delighted to have tied down Eberechi Eze to a new contract after doing so with Michael Olise, and the Eagles now need to concentrate on getting Marc Guehi to do the same.

The England international defender appears to be coveted by a number of clubs, however, Palace chairman, Steve Parish, is doing his level best to really help build something special at Selhurst Park.

The south Londoners have some of the brightest young English talents in their squad, and whilst Roy Hodgson is still doing a remarkable job as manager, assuming this is his last season in football, whomever Parish brings in for 2024/25 could have an effect on the playing staff.

After all, it’s clear Palace don’t want to lose Guehi.

‘Guehi has always been appreciated by many top English clubs,’ CaughtOffside columnist, Fabrizio Romano, wrote in his exclusive Daily Briefing.

‘No concrete bids or talks are taking place at the moment, he’s a key player for Palace and of course they want to keep him.

‘It’s quiet now around Guehi, but with many PL clubs looking for a new centre-back, he could be a name to watch in 2024.’

Having so many homegrown players in their first-team squad and starting XI does Palace great credit.

Not only does it mean that they have a strong English core, but it offers those youngsters coming through at Palace’s academy a genuine belief that if they’re able to hit the heights required, that Crystal Palace will give them a crack at the big time.

That motivating factor will be a God send for Parish and his board, who appear keen to continue with the current business and playing status quo in the hope that the Eagles soar in the not too distant future.

Losing Micheal Olise when it appeared a deal had been fully agreed with the Crystal Palace player will surely have come as a bitter blow to Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino.

Though they’ve sold enough players to make their own XI, the Blues have still been active in the market in terms of incoming transfers.

That’s not better evidenced than their British record capture of Moises Caicedo and potential hire of young Southampton midfield talent, Romeo Lavia.

It’s clear that the exciting Olise was next in line, however, threatened legal action from the Eagles appears to have seen Chelsea back out of the deal.

What that means for the Stamford Bridge outfit is that it’s back to the drawing board in terms of which players to consider for their attacking areas, and it would seem that they’re ready to go head-to-head with Man City over one exceptional talent.

According to 90Min, the Blues have made enquiries for Rennes’ Jeremy Doku, even though it’s believed that the player has already agreed terms with the Cityzens.

At this stage, were Chelsea to firm up any enquiry with an offer, it would appear to be a very simple choice for the Belgian player; sign for City, an established project with success almost guaranteed, or go to an emerging project at Chelsea, more than likely for the long contract that would be offered.

Chelsea have stepped up their pursuit of Lyon’s Bradley Barcola after their move for Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise fell through.

That is according to Fabrice Hawkins, who reports that the Blues are now pursuing the 20-year-old who has been at Lyon for the entirety of his career.

Barcola is also wanted by PSG and the Ligue 1 champions are believed to be still interested having already had a €35m offer turned down by Lyon for the youngster. This comes after the West London club’s move for Michael Olise fell through as Mauricio Pochettino still wants another winger added to his squad.

Crystal Palace confirmed the news on Thursday that Olise rejected the opportunity to join Chelsea and signed a new four-year contract to stay at Selhurst Park, reports the Guardian.

The Blues activated the £35m release clause in Olise’s current contract this week and the transfer appeared close to being completed.

However, Palace were very unhappy with how their winger was approached by Chelsea and was considering making a formal complaint to the Premier League over their conduct, which likely impacted the deal as the Blues move on to the Lyon man.

A deal taking Michael Olise to Chelsea was all but done before the Blues seemingly pulled out due to the threat of legal action from Crystal Palace.

That’s according to Football Insider journalist Fraser Fletcher on Twitter, with the reporter explaining that Chelsea looked close to signing Olise before re-thinking due to being worried about Palace taking action against them.

See below for details from Fletcher as he commented on this U-turn from Chelsea, following an official announcement from Palace chairman Steve Parish earlier this afternoon…

Olise is a top talent who could’ve been an exciting signing for Chelsea, but it seems fans of the west London giants can forget about this one for now.

It could already be that Nottingham Forest winger Brennan Johnson is emerging as an alternative in that position for Chelsea, according to a report from the Guardian earlier today.

Johnson has impressed with Forest and could be a good option for top clubs to look at, even if Olise probably looks like he has a slightly higher ceiling.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has delivered a stunning update on Michael Olise’s future on social media.

Despite Eagles winger Olise being so strongly linked with Chelsea, Parish has now tweeted that the Frenchman has committed his future to the club by signing a new contract…

Few people would have seen this coming, but if Chelsea did indeed trigger Olise’s release clause at Palace, this latest development suggests the player rejected the chance to move to Stamford Bridge.

It will be intriguing to see what further details emerge on this saga, but for now all we know is that Olise to Chelsea is seemingly off as the 21-year-old has decided to stay where he is for a while longer.

CFC may now have to turn to alternatives in attack, with the Guardian linking them with Nottingham Forest winger Brennan Johnson, who would cost around £45million and who is also being tracked by Tottenham and West Ham.

Liverpool bid for Wataru Endo and could still sign another midfielder – FULL STORY

Some exclusive news that came out of the blue – Liverpool have submitted an official bid for Stuttgart captain Wataru Endo. Negotiations are ongoing and advancing very well over the 30-year-old Japanese midfielder. It’s an unexpected situation but a big opportunity for the player, and he wants to go to Liverpool, so there are very good chances for this deal to happen…

Latest on Chelsea deals for Michael Olise and Elye Wahi – FULL STORY

Chelsea keep being busy, and it’s true that Crystal Palace are not entirely happy with how the Blues have approached the Michael Olise deal. But it’s also worth reiterating that Chelsea feel they did everything correctly, behaved fine and did nothing wrong.

There’s something to clarify between clubs on the mechanism of the release clause, so it’s not ‘here we go’ yet, but Chelsea are confident. Olise has said yes to Chelsea, having also been on Manchester City’s list before they decided to focus on Jeremy Doku.

Chelsea also continue to be linked with Montpellier striker Elye Wahi, but my understanding is that the player’s preference is Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bernardo Silva agrees Manchester City stay – FULL STORY

Some more big breaking news last night – Bernardo Silva has verbally agreed a new contract with Manchester City. It will be signed next week probably, that’s the expectation…

Crystal Palace are not happy with how Chelsea have approached the potential transfer of French winger Michael Olise, according to Fabrizio Romano in his exclusive CaughtOffside column.

The talented Palace youngster really caught the eye at Selhurst Park last season and looks like he could be a fine signing for a number of bigger clubs, with Chelsea now looking the favourites to snap him up, even if a deal is not quite done yet.

According to Romano, there are still some technicalities to be resolved between Chelsea and Palace regarding Olise’s release clause, but the player himself has said yes to a move to Stamford Bridge, having also been on Manchester City’s radar.

It will be interesting to see what comes out of this issue with Palace and Chelsea’s approach for the player, but Romano has confirmed that the Eagles aren’t best pleased with their London rivals, even if CFC insist they’ve behaved appropriately and done nothing wrong.

Michael Olise to Chelsea?

Crystal Palace are reportedly not happy with Chelsea over the way they’ve approached the potential transfer of Michael Olise.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the Eagles feel there may have been some element of ‘tapping up’ going on with the Blues and their efforts to lure Olise to Stamford Bridge.

See below for details from Jacobs in his Twitter thread, where he also explains one potential complication to the Olise Chelsea deal as he still needs to undergo a medical but is out injured for the next few weeks…

Olise impressed in the Premier League last season and looks like he’d be an exciting addition to this Chelsea squad, though it remains to be seen how often the Frenchman would play.

Chelsea already have Mykhaylo Mudryk, Raheem Sterling and Noni Madueke as options out wide, but one imagines Mauricio Pochettino would surely try his best to find room for a promising young talent like Olise.

It will be interesting to see how this develops, however, and if Palace end up reporting Chelsea for their approach to this deal.

Chelsea reportedly remain in talks over the potential £30million transfer of Montpellier striker Elye Wahi.

The highly-rated young Frenchman has impressed in Ligue 1 in recent times, and seems like he could be a fine long-term signing for the Blues.

This rumour has been doing the rounds for some time now, and the latest from the Evening Standard is that negotiations do seem to be dragging on.

Wahi would be another top young player to join this growing impressive roster at Stamford Bridge, with Romeo Lavia and Michael Olise both closing in on moves, as reported by Fabrizio Romano in his CaughtOffside column earlier today.

Elye Wahi celebrates a goal for Montpellier

Chelsea started their Premier League season with a draw at home to Liverpool and will surely need to improve, even if plenty of exciting changes have been made to the squad.

Wahi could be another useful option to give CFC more of a goal threat, with question marks over Nicolas Jackson, even if he looks another promising long-term option.
