Palace striker hints he intends to leave the club soon

Crystal Palace chairman, Steve Parish, and manager, Roy Hodgson, are unlikely to be too enamoured by learning that one of their strikers is looking at moving on from the club in the not too distant future.

The Eagles haven’t been soaring as high as they’d like of late, however, having secured the longer-term futures of both Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise recently, as well as having the likes of Marc Guehi and other highly-rated exponents in their ranks, they’ve lots to be thankful for.

A young and vibrant team, it’s difficult to see why players would be so keen to move on, though Odsonne Edouard has expressed a clear preference to leave Selhurst Park – via Paris Saint-Germain’s official website.

The 25-year-old spent part of his youth at the French giants, and you’d be forgiven for thinking that he was giving PSG the old ‘come and get me’ plea.

Having his words reported by another club’s website rather than a national media outlet is hardly likely to endear him to his paymasters either, and may well signal the beginning of the end for Edouard’s career in south London.

With six goals in 12 total appearances this season per WhoScored, it’s obvious what he brings to the table, however, you simply can’t be hinting on another club’s website that you intend to leave your current club in future.

Crystal Palace will be indebted to Aston Villa goalkeeper, Emi Martinez, for his part in the opening goal of the game at Villa Park, scored by Eagles front man, Odsonne Edouard.

The south Londoners were without manager, Roy Hodgson, on the touchline after he was taken ill and unable to attend the match, though the 76-year-old would surely have been delighted with how Edouard took advantage of Martinez’s untimely error.

As the ball was played centrally to the striker, Martinez could arguably have got to the ball first, but his slip allowed Edouard a free shot at goal and he made no mistake.

Fulham certainly missed him during his ban for the antics at Man United earlier in the season, but once again, this time against Crystal Palace, Aleksandar Mitrovic showed everyone what they were missing.

The Eagles had taken the lead at Craven Cottage through Odsonne Edouard, and it looked as though the visitors would be going in at the break ahead.

However, the west Londoners were handed an injury time penalty and Mitrovic couldn’t have despatched it with more venom.

The keeper had no chance as he slammed it into the top corner.

Crystal Palace have taken the lead against Fulham with a brilliant goal that started from a Fulham corner.

In a lightning-fast counter-attack, Eze carries the ball and soars through the heart of the pitch before perfectly slipping it to Edouard.

The Palace striker thumped his shot into the top-left corner, leaving Leno with no chance!

It’s 1-0 to the visitors!

Hodgson’s difficulty as Crystal Palace front man isn’t hitting the mark ahead of relegation battle

With the business end of the Premier League campaign fast approaching, Roy Hodgson needs everyone playing to their maximum if he wants to keep Crystal Palace from falling through the trap door and into the English Championship.

The size of the task that the 75-year-old has ahead of him is immense.

According to WhoScored, the south Londoners haven’t yet won a game in 2023, and though they might appear to be sitting pretty in 12th position, they’re actually just four points ahead of bottom club, Southampton.

In their final 10 fixtures, they do have to play the Saints, and five other teams that currently sit below them in the Premier League table: Nottingham Forest, Leeds United, West Ham United, Bournemouth, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton.

To that end, their Premier League fate is very much still in their own hands despite a terrible run of results.

They will of course need every player to play their part, but one journalist believes that front man, Odsonne Edouard, hasn’t really been anything like the player that the Eagles would’ve hoped for.

“I’ve been really disappointed in Edouard because he had a good goalscoring record in Scotland with Celtic, but he just hasn’t been up to scratch,” Daily Express scribe, Ryan Taylor, said to GiveMeSport.

“That was evident in their trip to Arsenal when he missed a great chance at 0-0, which typifies their struggles in front of goal.”

Across the 2022/23 campaign, Edouard has just three goals in the English top-flight and five in total, per WhoScored, which isn’t anywhere close to being good enough for a striker.

If he’s going to come good, then there’s no better time to do so than over the next 10 games. Do that, and Palace might just be looking forward to another Premier League campaign next season.

Crystal Palace are reportedly facing a major blow for the upcoming West Ham game.

Odsonne Edouard is expected to miss this Sunday’s match through injury, according to a report from football.london.

Edouard is a key player for Patrick Vieira, so this is far from ideal in what could be a challenging fixture for the Eagles.

Even if he’s not been the most consistent performer in his time at Selhurst Park, Edouard was notably described as “special” by Neil Lennon during his Celtic days, and he remains someone with the ability to change a game in an instant.

Odsonne Edouard has drawn Crystal Palace level against Leeds United at Selhurst Park with a smart header.

The home side have been dominated in the opening 25 minutes of the match and found themselves 1-0 down after Pascal Struijk opened the scoring for Leeds after 10 minutes but the Eagles have now drawn themselves level.

The goal came from a free kick, in which Michael Olise picked out Edouard in the Leeds box.

The striker produced a smart finish as he headed the ball down resulting in it bouncing into the net giving the goalkeeper no chance.

Sunday afternoon’s match at Selhurst Park was rapidly turning into a game of two halves between Crystal Palace and Liverpool.

The Reds had made the running for much of the first-half, with both Virgil van Dijk and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain finding the net with ease.

Indeed, some of the football at times was pinpoint, crisp and a joy to watch.

Jurgen Klopp will surely have been delighted by what he saw in the opening 45, but perhaps not so much in the second half.

Conor Gallagher had already gone close for the hosts, as Palace carved open the Reds midfield with ease.

With his team sitting just six points above the Premier League relegation zone and without a win in four games, Patrick Vieira is getting ruthless at Crystal Palace.

It’s clear that the Frenchman has had enough of certain players, and in one case, it’s even believed that he’s told a member of the playing staff to find another club in January.

Jean-Philippe Mateta, who has only played for 63 minutes this season and has just three starts overall since joining from Mainz almost a year ago, will need to move elsewhere if he wants to get regular football.

Help could be at hand, however, in the shape of Ligue Un basement club, St. Etienne, who, according to FootMercato and cited by HITC, are interesting in taking Mateta on a short-term loan.

With Christian Benteke and Odsonne Edouard proving to be a reasonable strike pairing, there just isn’t the room for Mateta at present.

Vieira must surely have a replacement in mind too, for he would be foolish not too incase either one of Benteke or Edouard get injured.
