Everton could open contract talks with Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the coming weeks.

That’s according to Football Insider, who claims the Toffees will look to fend off interest in the English striker from clubs in Saudi’s Pro League ahead of the January transfer window.

Set to enter into his contract’s final 18 months, Everton know they must reach a renewal agreement or risk losing their number nine for a heavily reduced fee in the summer.

Consequently, set to reward their joint top goalscorer with a new deal, Everton will be hoping the 26-year-old sees his long-term future at Goodison Park.

Friday’s breaking news that the Merseyside club have been docked 10 points by the Premier League for financial rule breaches could influence the striker’s decision though.

Now odds-on favourites to be relegated after dropping down to 19th in the table, Calvert-Lewin may opt against the prospect of playing Championship football next season.

During his seven years at Goodison Park, Calvert-Lewin, who has represented England on 11 occasions, has scored 64 goals in 220 games in all competitions.

As Gareth Southgate prepares for the Euro 2024 tournament in Germany, it raises the question of who could step in as the primary striker if Harry Kane is unavailable.

Undoubtedly, Kane holds the title of England’s number one striker, backed by his outstanding form with Bayern Munich, boasting 21 goals in 15 Bundesliga and Champions League appearances.

Who will be Kane’s England understudy at Euro 2024?

Ollie Watkins

Ollie Watkins, displaying impressive form with 11 goals for Aston Villa in the 2023/24 season, has caught the attention not only of his club but also of England manager Gareth Southgate as Euro 2024 approaches. The former Exeter City striker’s goal-scoring prowess has become particularly prominent under the management of Unai Emery.

Ivan Toney

Ivan Toney, representing Brentford in the current season without yet making an appearance, has had a limited England career with zero goals in one cap. His brief stint on the international stage includes a nine-minute substitute appearance in a Euro 2024 qualifying win against Ukraine, where he replaced Harry Kane.

However, Toney’s opportunities might have been more substantial if not for an eight-month suspension related to betting rules in May.

Eddie Nketiah

Eddie Nketiah’s current club form of five goals in league and cup competitions for Arsenal in the 2023/24 season is quite a steady return. The 24-year-old holds an England career record of zero goals in one cap.

Notably, he achieved his 100th Premier League appearance for Arsenal recently, but a recent injury has led to his exclusion from Gareth Southgate’s latest squad.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with four goals in league and cup competitions for Everton in the 2023-24 season, boasts an England career record of four goals in 11 caps.

Despite a hiatus of more than two years from wearing the England shirt due to injury issues, Calvert-Lewin has made a notable impact since returning to action. His contributions include scoring four times this season, including the decisive winner against West Ham last month.

Callum Wilson

Callum Wilson has demonstrated fine form with seven goals in league and cup competitions this term. Despite being older than Harry Kane at 31, Wilson’s impressive performance earned him a recall to Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad.

Unfortunately, injury troubles have once again forced his withdrawal from the squad.

Wilson holds an England career record of two goals in nine caps.

Tammy Abraham

Tammy Abraham is yet to make an appearance for Roma in all competitions this season due to an injury.

With an England career record of three goals in 11 caps, Abraham’s last appearance for the national team was almost 18 months ago.

Abraham has previously showcased his goal-scoring prowess with 25 goals in 75 Serie A appearances.

Everton will not agree to sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the January transfer window.

That’s according to a recent report from Football Insider, who claims the Toffees are determined to keep hold of the in-form striker.

Despite struggling with multiple injuries over the last few seasons, this term has so far seen the 26-year-old close to returning to his best.

Scoring three goals in his first seven matches, in all competitions, it is clear that a fully fit and firing Calvert-Lewin is going to be crucial in the Toffees’ quest to retain Premier League status.

And despite being linked with a move to Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq, a mid-season move to the Saudi Pro League appears out of the question for Everton’s number nine.

Not only is the striker thought to be happy at Goodison Park amid an upturn in form, but the Merseyside club are understandably unwilling to offload such an important player at what is likely to be a crucial period in their season.

It was perhaps inevitable that former Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard, would eventually look closer to home for some signings at his current club, Al Ettifaq.

Having already landed Jordan Henderson in a surprise move during the summer transfer window, Gerrard is, apparently, scouting for another England international on Merseyside.

Al Ettifaq find themselves in seventh place in the Saudi Pro League at present, already nine points behind leaders, Al Hilal.

Any motivation and lift that supporters may give them was distinctly missing this past weekend, as the Daily Mirror noted that only 696 supporters were in attendance for their loss against Al Riyadh.

For a player to willingly come to play in that sort of environment rather than the Premier League can only be about the money. Any proclamation to the contrary will surely be dismissed by savvy supporters.

Gerrard, according to Football Insider sources, wants to bring Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin to the SPL.

It isn’t known at this stage if the injury-plagued front man would be open to such a switch, though the report states that the Toffees have no intention of letting the striker go.

A stalled takeover with 777 Partners may mean they have little choice in the end, as it would appear that the club are sinking in debt and only a takeover will be able to bring things back to something approaching an even keel.

Everton have scored two goals in 5 minutes to take a 3-1 lead away at Brentford.

Doucoure gave Everton an early lead and almost double the advantage with a stunning effort but his strike hit the woodwork instead.

And just a minute later on the end Brentford had the ball in the back of the net thanks to a quality strike from Mathias Jensen.

But Everton turned the game around in the 67th minute after Tarkowski headed in from a corner to restore their lead before Dominic Calvert-Lewin made it 3-1 from a brilliant Garner assist.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s return to the Everton line-up lasted only 38 minutes as he was forced off following a nasty collision with Aston Villa keeper Emi Martinez.

A mere 10 minutes into the match, a ball was crossed into the Aston Villa penalty area, and Calvert-Lewin rose to meet it.

Unfortunately, he collided with the incoming Martinez, resulting in a face-first impact on the goalkeeper’s shoulder.

This collision led to significant swelling of Calvert-Lewin’s cheekbone.

Despite initially receiving on-field medical treatment and being cleared to continue, he managed to play for just another 25 minutes before ultimately being substituted.

The Premier League’s final day will see two of three teams relegated to the Championship.

Following Southampton’s confirmed relegation earlier in the campaign, Leicester City, Leeds United and Everton are now tasked with avoiding the drop.

Only one will survive though, and with Sunday’s final day set to go down to the wire, fans of all three clubs will be keeping everything crossed that it won’t be their side who are demoted to England’s second tier.

As things stand, Sean Dyche’s Everton are in the driving seat. The Toffees, currently sitting 17th, are two points clear of Leicester City in 18th and 19th-placed Leeds United.

However, Dyche has been dealt a major injury crisis ahead of Sunday’s game against Bournemouth.

Full-back Nathan Patterson is expected to miss out after suffering a hamstring injury during the team’s 1-1 draw against Wolves last weekend.

Elsewhere, striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a major doubt after the Englishman also picked up a hamstring-related injury last weekend, and consequently, is almost certain to miss his side’s final game of the season.

If either Leicester City or Leeds United are to survive, not only will they need Everton to drop points next time out, they will both need to win their respective matches against West Ham and Tottenham.

Arsenal have reportedly identified two potential targets up front ahead of the summer transfer window amid uncertainty over Folarin Balogun.

The Gunners youngster has enjoyed an outstanding season on loan with Ligue 1 side Reims and won’t want to go back to warming the bench at the Emirates Stadium next term.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed interest in Balogun ahead of the summer, and it seems Arsenal do have some plans in place in case he ends up leaving the club.

According to a report from Football Insider, the north London giants are keen on Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, and have Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin as another option under consideration.

Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus
Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Everton

Vlahovic showed immense promise during his time as a Fiorentina player, though things haven’t gone quite as smoothly for him at current club Juventus, so Arsenal could do well to pounce and offer him the chance to revive his career.

Calvert-Lewin, meanwhile, has a decent scoring record when fit, but he certainly hasn’t played as often as Everton would have liked, so that could be a concern for Arsenal.

AFC signed Gabriel Jesus to strengthen their attack last summer, while Leandro Trossard came in in January, so it remains to be seen how Mikel Arteta would fit in another centre-forward.
