Tottenham reported to have broken important transfer rules 15 years ago

Tottenham may reportedly be in a spot of bother due to supposedly using an unlicensed agent for a transfer that took place 15 years ago.

According to the Times, when Spurs sold Jermain Defoe to Portsmouth in 2008, Mitchell Thomas was one of the key figures in the deal, despite not having the correct license.

Although this was a long time ago, it’s now come to light due to the Times’ report, and it will be interesting to see what action might be taken against Tottenham, as other clubs have been hit very hard on this kind of thing before.

Luton Town were hit with a deduction of ten points back in 2007 for issues relating to payments to agents, while Leeds United also landed themselves in trouble in 2017 when their owner was banned from football for twelve months and given a fine of £100,000 for breaching agent rules.

Injured at present, Richarlison is clearly still going through a tough time at Tottenham, both in a physical and mental sense.

The Brazilian is due back from his current injury on or about December 15th according to Premier Injuries, and perhaps with one eye on the future, Football Insider are reporting that Spurs are looking at an 18-year-old to come in and cover in the front line given how light Ange Postecoglou finds himself in that department.

Should Richarlison’s well-publicised mental health issues become an issue for the player again, Club Brugge’s Antonio Nusa could find himself becoming a longer-term replacement.

Tottenham will give the Brazilian all the help and support that he needs, as they’ve done so far, however, even that may not be enough for him to conquer his demons.

Should he hit the ground running during the festive period and find his footballing mojo, there’s still a good enough reason for Nusa to be considered in January given that Ivan Perisic is out for the season and Manor Solomon isn’t expected to be back on the pitch until late January at the earliest.

Chelsea and Fulham are also said to be interested by Football Insider, although the one thing that could scupper the deal for any of the London trio is that the Belgian Pro League side are said to be wanting £30m or thereabouts to allow him to move mid-season.

Harry Kane has really been enjoying himself in Bavaria with his switch from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich already proving to be a resounding success.

In just 15 games in all competitions in the 2023/24 campaign, he already has 21 goals and seven assists to his name, per WhoScored.

That’s included a hat-trick of hat-tricks and 12 goals plus three assists in his last seven games.

Calling it a hot streak hardly does his opening few months in Germany justice.

He’s already made history thanks to his rate of scoring, and though Bayern still trail Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, if Kane continues to find the net across the campaign, it’s surely a foregone conclusion that the England captain will be firing his club to yet another German top-flight title.

Whether or not Kane finally breaks his silverware duck with a Bundesliga win, he’ll almost certainly cash in with a very special reward thanks to a clause in his contract.

According to SportBILD’s Christian Falk, if the striker manages to score 40 goals across the season in all competitions, he will earn himself a cool €250,000 extra.

The 30-year-old is fast becoming as much of a talisman for Bayern as he was for the north Londoners, and with more than half of the season left to play, hitting the 40-goal target looks to be a very achievable mark at this stage.

Sheikh Jassim may have pulled out of a bid to buy Manchester United, but another Premier League club could be in the Qataris’ sights next.

Meanwhile, Tottenham could be the next target for Qatar, according to ESPN journalist Mark Ogden.

Speaking earlier this year, Ogden was told that Spurs could be the second choice for the likes of Sheikh Jassim if a move for United didn’t work out, as has now more or less been confirmed to be the case.

It was bound to happen sooner or later so Harry Kane’s move from Tottenham wasn’t really a surprise, and the striker, now at Bayern Munich, has spoken of his wish for his former club.

The north Londoner’s were arguably left with nowhere to go in negotiations once Kane apparently made it clear he’d like to try pastures new.

Daniel Levy won’t have enjoyed the fact that he was unable to stop the centre-forward moving to the Bavarian giants, however, he was able to ensure a good deal financially for the club and he also managed to secure the option to be able to match any offers should Kane leave Bayern at some future point.

With 14 direct goal involvements in his 10 games for his new club so far per WhoScored, it’s clear that Kane has begun life in Germany as he left it in England.

Just two points separate them from top-of-the-table Bayer Leverkusen, and if Kane continues finding the net or an assist with such regularity, Bayern will soon overhaul their rivals in the Bundesliga.

Whilst his focus remains with his current employers, it’s clear he still has a soft spot for the Lilywhites.

“I have made it clear my whole career I am a Tottenham fan and I would love to see Tottenham do well,” he was quoted as saying by the Belfast Telegraph.

“Spurs are doing pretty well. It’s great to see. I think I’ve said before, the manager is doing great for them with the way they’re playing.

If Ange Postecoglou can mastermind a title challenge at White Hart Lane and Kane wins the Bundesliga at the first time of asking, it’ll be a win win as far as the 30-year-old is concerned.

Antonio Conte would welcome Serie A return at Napoli after Tottenham debacle

It’s been a few months since Antonio Conte launched into his epic rant about Tottenham Hotspur which brought about his demise at the club.

Whether or not what he had to say was agreed with by supporters, Daniel Levy was never doing to allow the Italian to stay in position after that.

In truth, the break between manager and club had been coming for some while, and the chat with the press was the final straw.

Since then, Conte has maintained a dignified silence and the media have left him alone by and large.

Calciomercato are now reporting that he’s ready to reappear from the shadows, however, with a switch to Napoli potentially on the cards.

The Partnopei, current reigning champions of Serie A, look highly likely to dispense with Rudi Garcia, who was only employed by Aurelio De Laurentiis a few months ago.

It appears that there is quite the disconnect between players and manager, and their current fifth place, some seven points behind leaders Milan, isn’t really too much of a surprise.

Though Garcia hasn’t been relieved of his duties just yet, it only seems to be a matter of time before the axe falls.

Calciomercato note that Conte has been like a coiled spring for a while now and can’t wait to get back into club management, with a move to Napoli particularly appealing.

Selling Harry Kane to Bayern Munich may have been one of the most difficult decisions that Tottenham chairman, Daniel Levy, has had to make during his tenure as club chairman, however, at this point, it’s looking like a win win.

The centre-forward is, as expected, ripping it up in the Bundesliga for the Bavarian giants, whilst Spurs are sitting pretty atop the Premier League table.

Indeed, any thoughts that Levy may have had regarding a backlash from fans of the north London outfit have quickly been dispelled thanks to Ange Postecoglou’s stunning start to life at White Hart Lane.

Kane’s shadow will hang over the club for a while yet, however, particularly when Bayern directors appear more than keen to rub salt into the wounds.

According to honorary Bayern president, Uli Hoeness, the Bavarians didn’t actually pay the amount for the centre-forward that has been quoted extensively in the press.

“We only spent 95 million (euros),” he told BR24.

Though it might only be a case of a few million pounds difference, it begs the question as to why a different figure was released to media organisations in the first place, and why Levy has let Kane leave for under €100m, when it was always believed that any offer below that amount would be rebuffed.

In order to get ahead in the game of football today, it isn’t just about the players on the pitch but also getting in the right staff behind the scenes, and that’s perhaps never better evidenced than this season at Man United.

There appears to be a clear disconnect between the front and back of house which is affecting how the players are performing, and that could be as much to do with recruitment as anything else.

By way of example, look at how West Ham have been transformed since Tim Steidten was brought in to oversee the club’s transfer business.

According to The Independent, Atletico Madrid’s sporting director, Andrea Berta, is of interest to the Red Devils, but they are likely to face competition for his services from both Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain.

Having worked for the Rojiblancos since May 2013, firstly as a Technical Director and then as Sporting Director from 2017 onwards (transfermarkt), the 51-year-old Italian might well feel that it’s time for a new experience.

All three of United, Spurs and PSG offer interesting perspectives for him, and it remains to be seen if any of them appeal enough for him to end his association with Atleti.

The manner of PSG’s recruitment and way of working has long been unsustainable, whilst the Red Devils remain in the midst of a potential takeover. With Tottenham on the up at present, they could arguably become the most attractive proposition.

Was it ever in any doubt that Harry Kane was going to take the Bundesliga by storm?

The former Tottenham Hotspur talisman has picked up at Bayern Munich where he left off in north London and just can’t stop scoring.

How the Lilywhites must rue not having won the trophies that would’ve kept their centre-forward at White Hart Lane for a few more years at least.

For now, Kane has found the perfect home at the Allianz Arena, and it appears to be a marriage made in heaven as far as the Bavarians are concerned.

A hat-trick at the weekend against Bochum in what turned out to be a seven-goal thrashing meant that Kane has already set his own slice of history in the German top-flight.

According to a tweet from Fabrizio Romano, Kane’s seven goals in his opening five matches for Bayern mean that he’s broken the records set by ‘Der Bomber’ Gerd Muller, Miroslav Klose and Mario Mandzukic, all of whom were adored by the Bavarian faithful.

Kane remains a guarantee of goals and is ostensibly why Thomas Tuchel was so keen to have him on board.

If he carries on scoring at the same rate as presently, the Bundesliga top scorer award will be wrapped up well before the end of the 2023/24 season.

It also goes to show that Kane made exactly the right decision by taking flight from north London.

Daniel Levy makes a crucial decision for the future of Tottenham Hotspur

It’s fair to say that Daniel Levy is a polarising character amongst the Tottenham Hotspur fan base.

The north Londoners have been steered through some murky waters over the past few years, and it’s the club chairman that always seems to face the backlash.

It’s largely forgotten that Spurs have arguably the best club stadium in the country because that is, dare it be suggested, the minimum expectation for those that regularly travel to north London to watch their heroes.

The cost of building the new White Hart Lane is something that probably doesn’t even enter the equation as far as Tottenham fans are concerned.

However, whether Levy is loved or loathed, it can’t be argued that he’s always had the best intentions of the club in mind when brokering deals. Be that for players or otherwise.

The Sunday Times (subscription required) are now reporting that Levy has come to a decision which could significantly affect the future of the club.

According to the outlet, the chairman would be willing to sell up to 25% of the club, which he values at £4bn.

Whilst that news could be considered seismic as far as supporters are concerned, it should be noted that whilst he would be willing to sell, that doesn’t mean he will necessarily take up any offers.

As is the way he has always done his business with and for the club, only the right type of partnership will appeal to him.
