Liverpool legend John Barnes has told talkSPORT Dominik Szoboszlai reminds him of Steven Gerrard, when speaking on the Hawksbee and Baker show.

Barnes has said Szoboszlai has impressed him the most of Liverpool’s summer signings, after calling him “incredible” on the Hawksbee and Baker show.

He praised Jurgen Klopp’s system for getting the best out of him, before questioning if Szoboszlai would look as good for an Arsenal or Manchester City, or whether he would struggle there.

Barnes then went on to compare him to Gerrard which is of course a huge compliment, stating “He reminds me of Steven Gerrard to a certain extent, because you don’t necessarily get box to box midfielders who can defend, who can attack, but that’s what he does”.

Szoboszlai has made 17 appearances for Liverpool so far this campaign in all competitions, scoring two goals, providing two assists and totalling 1,241 minutes of football.

Liverpool currently sit 2nd in the Premier League on 27 points, only one point behind league leaders and defending champions Manchester City who are on 28.

Klopp’s men have won eight, drawn three and only lost one game in their 12 Premier League fixtures so far, scoring 27 goals and only conceding 10.

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai was the star of the show for Hungary once again as they beat Montenegro 3-1 to qualify for the Euro 2024.

He scored two goals in two minutes including a brilliant solo goal to help Hungary come from a goal down to win the game.

And the skipper celebrated the qualification in style. He downed a pretty big shot of Palinka with the Hungary fans before leading the crowd chants.

Hungary were 3-1 winners over Montenegro on Sunday and the win came courtesy of some Dominik Szoboszlai magic. 

The Hungarians found themselves 1-0 down in the match after 38 minutes but two goals within the space of two minutes in the second half from Szoboszlai helped the home side secure all three points.

Hungary have already qualified for EURO 2024 next summer but they are now ensured to finish top of their qualifying group.

The Liverpool star’s first goal was pure genius, while the second was a more routine finish for the midfielder.

Hungary drew 2-2 to Bulgaria on Thursday night and the result helped the country to qualify for the 2024 European Championships next summer in Germany.

It is only the fifth time the nation will play at the tournament and that achievement was too much for Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai.

The Reds star is the captain of Hungary and new footage has shown the midfielder in tears on the pitch after the match as the team celebrated their achievement.

Szoboszlai will lead his country out in Germany next summer and will hope to build on a positive qualifying campaign as the Hungarians will have their eye on a few upsets over the month of football.

Gary Gillespie has revealed his astonishment at how good Dominik Szoboszlai has been since joining the club in the summer.

The Hungarian midfielder has been one of it not the stand-out signing of the season, joining Liverpool from RB Leipzig for a reported £60m.

Jurgen Klopp oversaw a major rebuild to his midfield after the departure of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia.

With the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch moving to Merseyside, Klopp crowned his midfield trio with the Hungarian.

The young midfielder has hit the ground running and took many by surprise, including club legend Gillespie.

Speaking after the Nottingham Forest game, he admitted that he didn’t realize just how good the 23-year-old was but now thinks that he is one of the best in the league.

“Wow, what a player”, Gillespie told LFC TV via Inside Futbol.

“To be honest, when we signed him I didn’t realise how good he was, but since watching him, he just does everything you want in a midfield player.

“He’s got the right energy, he’s got the fitness, he’s got the strength, he’s got the pace, he’s got an eye for goal, he can play people in.

“All round he’s been absolutely outstanding so far.

“One of, if not the best, midfield player in the Premier League so far this season.”

Dominik Szoboszlai has been a revelation since joining Liverpool in the summer and his performance against Nottingham Forest highlights just how important he is.

Liverpool played Nottingham Forest off the park at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, winning 3-0 and maintaining the three-point gap to Tottenham.

Although Darwin Nunez bagged a goal and an assist, it was Szoboszlai who stole the show.

The all-action midfielder has shown just how well-rounded his game is, ranking in the top five for dribbles, tackles, interceptions and chances created at the club.

All these attributes were on display during his side’s win on Sunday.

talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has graded some of this summer’s signings, including James Maddison, Andre Onana, Dominik Szoboszlai and James Ward-Prowse.

Agbonlahor started with Maddison, who he graded an A. This was based on his price tag which Agbonlahor labelled “a bargain”, and the quality he has shown so far.

Then he graded the signing of Manchester United shot stopper Onana, who he graded a B. Agbonlahor stated that he has been too casual on the ball, and hasn’t saved shots that he should be saving, but overall he does think he will come good at United.

Szoboszlai and James Ward-Prowse were both given A grades by Agbonlahor too, mentioning he was impressed with Szoboszlai and what he does for Liverpool in midfield, and mentioned Ward-Prowse’s output scoring goals and providing assists for the Hammers.

Maddison has played nine games for Spurs so far this campaign, scoring two goals and providing five assists. Szoboszlai has made 11 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions, scoring two goals. Ward-Prowse has made 10 appearances for the Hammers in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing seven assists.

Onana on the other hand has made 11 appearances in all competitions for United, has conceded 19 goals, only kept two clean sheets and has made some big errors leading to goals.

Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has admitted that he has been impressed by Dominik Szoboszlai since arriving at the Premier League club.

The duo arrived at Anfield this summer as Jurgen Klopp completed an overhaul of his midfield. Big names such as Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and James Milner left the Merseyside club; whilst being replaced by by Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo and the aforementioned midfield duo.

When speaking to Sky Sports, the Dutch star was asked who has impressed him the most at Liverpool since he arrived, with the 21-year-old saying via talkSPORT: “I think it was Dom Szoboszlai.

“Because this guy’s shot is… it’s crazy!

“Also sometimes in training, sometimes we shoot after training and it’s like ‘one, two, three’, they go all in. Crazy things. So I think it’s Dom with his shot.”

The pair have both made an impressive start to life at Anfield with Gravenberch impressing in the cup competitions, while Szoboszlai has been a stable figure in Jurgen Klopp’s starting 11.

The Hungarian’s shooting ability has already been witnessed by the Liverpool faithful with his goal against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup being the perfect showcase for that talent.

Liverpool managed to draw with Brighton in a 2-2 back and forth game. Both teams had plenty of chances, and easily could have won the game.

Brighton took the lead through a mistake in possession between Virgil van Dijk and Alexis Mac Allister, with Simon Adingra winning the ball back and slotting it home. Then a quickfire double from Mohamed Salah got Liverpool back in the game, sending the Reds in 2-1 up at halftime. However a second half goal from Lewis Dunk in the 78th minute rescued a point for Brighton.

Alisson – 5 – Could have done better for the first goal by his high standards, and only made one save in the game. Was a poor showing by his standard.

Andrew Robertson – 6.5 – Robertson was busy all afternoon with Simon Adingra, who got the better of him on some occasions. However Robertson did perform a good amount of key defensive actions, with four tackles, one interception and one clearance.

Virgil van Dijk- 6 – van Dijk was part of the error for the first goal with a poor pass into Mac Allister, however he did make a whopping 6 clearances along with two blocks and one tackle.

Joel Matip – 7 – Matip was extremely strong down his right hand side, often covering the position Alexander-Arnold left in transition too giving him more to do up against the likes of Mitoma and Solly March. Matip made four clearances, two blocks, one interception and two tackles.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 6 – Wasn’t at his best, as he didn’t really create anything for Liverpool going forwards. Alexander-Arnold didn’t make any key passes which in his new inverted role is the primary use for him.

Harvey Elliot – 5.5 – Elliot was taken off at halftime, but played a key part in the first Liverpool goal, getting into a good position in the box and leaving the ball to run across his body into the path of Mohamed Salah to slot home.

Alexis Mac Allister – 6 – Mac Allister was at fault for the first goal, taking too long on the ball and getting his pocket picked by Adingra. He did make six interceptions and three tackles in the middle of the park and broke up play nicely at times.

Dominik Szoboszlai – 7.5 – The Hungarian international continued to shine in Liverpool’s midfield, making four key passes and creating one big chance for his team. His ability to drive Liverpool up the pitch with both his dribbling and passing ability makes him incredibly hard to read.

Luis Diaz – 6 – Diaz had a quiet game, with not much coming down that left hand side. Diaz didn’t manage any crosses, had two shots which were both off target, and had zero key passes played.

Darwin Nunez – 8 – Nunez was excellent for Liverpool in this game, being a great outlet and causing mayhem with his attacking runs. Nunez managed three shots (1 on target), two key passes and of course got the assist for Salah’s first goal with a nice ball across the box.

Mohamed Salah – 8 – Salah made the difference, scored two goals, slotted his penalty away nicely and overall got Liverpool back in the game. Salah managed five shots (two on target), one key pass and made two successful dribbles.
