Manchester United’s squad may undergo significant changes next year, with eight players potentially leaving Old Trafford in June 2024.

Erik ten Hag is facing challenges both in the Premier League and the Champions League, but with Sir Jim Ratcliffe expected to take charge of Man United’s football operations after completing a 25% purchase of the club, there’s a strong possibility of player departures in the summer.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Anthony Martial, Hannibal Mejbri, Jonny Evans, and Tom Heaton are approaching the end of their contracts, per Transfermarkt. Additionally, it remains uncertain whether loaned players Sofyan Amrabat and Sergio Reguilon will secure permanent deals.

After finishing third in the Premier League last campaign and winning the Carabao Cup, the start to this season hasn’t been great. Nevertheless, the Red Devils are still only five points behind Tottenham Hotspur in fourth, who have been spoken about as Premier League title contenders.

One disappointment this season has been the big money signing of Mason Mount. Mount was signed for an initial fee of £55 million in the summer, but he has far from lived up to his performances that we became accustomed to at Chelsea. In eight appearances in the Premier League he is yet to register a single goal involvement.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s money to spend next summer Erik ten Hag should have plenty of money to spend to rebuild the squad following any departures after the expiration of several contracts.

In Garth Crooks BBC Team of the Week, we saw Cole Palmer feature after his performance against his former side, two Everton players for their win against Palace, and two Liverpool players after their 3-0 win against Brentford.

Palmer was included in Crooks Team of the Week, after his penalty rescued Chelsea a deserved point against his former side Manchester City.

Meanwhile the two Liverpool players included were from either end of the pitch, with Alisson taking the spot in net, and Mohamed Salah in the front three following his brace against Brentford.

Other inclusions were the likes of Dominic Solanke who scored a brace for Bournemouth in their big 2-0 win against Newcastle.

Soucek who scored a late winner for the Hammers against Nottingham Forest to win 3-2 at the London Stadium.

Two Everton players in Vitaliy Mykolenko and Abdoulaye Doucoure for their performances against Crystal Palace in a 3-2 victory for the Toffees.

Arsenal’s William Saliba and Manchester United’s Victor Lindelof both got on the score sheet for their sides, and managed victories to earn their spots in defence.

Whilst the midfield is completed with Pablo Sarabia of Wolves, and John McGinn of Aston Villa, both of which were on the scoresheet for their sides in victories against Tottenham and Fulham.

Manchester United finally have their breakthrough and it comes through Victor Lindelof who produces a fine finish to give the hosts an important lead.

The goal came from a Marcus Rashford cross into the penalty area which caused havoc before falling to Reguilon. The former Spurs full-back fluffed his line but the ball ends up perfectly for Lindelof who calms slots it into the back of the net with a great finish.

Manchester United’s first team have been handed some good and bad news – which one do you want first United fans?

Well, according to Erik Ten Hag, Raphael Varane is back and ‘ready to play’ following the recent bout of illness that kept him out against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. The Frenchman is fit and eligible to play against Fulham on Saturday afternoon.

“Varane is ready to play, he will travel with the squad,” Ten Hag told reporters, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

However, one player that is a doubt is defensive partner Victor Lindelof, who is the latest player to fall victim to illness.

Lindelof, although not completely ruled out for tomorrow’s Premier League game at Craven Cottage, is a major doubt with his manager admitting he is ‘waiting to see’ whether the Sweden international can play or not.

“Victor Lindelof has some illness and we’ll have to see if he’s ready for tomorrow,” the Dutchman added.

Saturday afternoon’s game between Fulham and United is scheduled to kick off at 12.30 p.m. (UK time) and will be broadcast live on TNT Sports.

Manchester United were beaten 3-0 at Old Trafford by rivals Manchester City, as United struggled to get anything going.

A brace from Erling Haaland and a goal from Phil Foden secured the victory for City, giving United their fifth loss of the Premier League campaign after 10 games.

Read on for our Manchester United player ratings, and who disappointed in the Manchester derby…

Andre Onana – 6 – Made seven saves, four from inside the box, but of course did concede three therefore can’t be much higher rated.

Victor Lindelof – 5.5 – Had to deal with Foden drifting inside and Walker overlapping down the right flank. Did make two interceptions, one clearance and one block but was beaten on quite a few occasions to let City into dangerous areas down the right flank.

Jonny Evans – 5 – Lost all four of his duels and wasn’t aggressive enough to deal with the likes of Haaland and Alvarez.

Harry Maguire – 6.5 – The more aggressive of the defenders, getting tighter with Haaland, winning all four of his duels and making eight clearances.

Diogo Dalot – 5 – Struggled up against Grealish when isolated in 1v1 areas, did make two tackles, one interception and three clearances, but was beaten down the left on a few occasions and struggled to keep Grealish quiet.

Sofyan Amrabat – 5 – Was subbed after 45 minutes, received a yellow card and was dribbled past once in a central area.

Christian Eriksen – 6 – Tried to get on the ball for United in deeper areas and make things happen, made one key pass and created one big chance. Also completed two out of two long balls.

Marcus Rashford – 4 – Failed to get himself involved enough as the United outlet, the space was there out wide but he didn’t use it. Only managed one shot (off target) and completed only one of his five dribble attempts.

Scott McTominay – 6.5 – Was United’s main threat, having two shots on target, completing his only dribble attempt and his only long ball attempt. Also did his bit defensively with four tackles, one interception, two blocks and two clearances.

Bruno Fernandes – 5 – Head dropped and didn’t look interested. Did make two key passes and two shots (one on target and one off target) but didn’t lead by example as captain and could’ve done a lot more.

Rasmus Hojlund – 5.5 – Gave away the penalty for City’s first goal, but did try to make things happen in attack for United. Made two key passes, completed two out of two dribbles and won four of his seven ground duels.

Subs: Mason Mount 5, Sergio Reguilon 4, Alejandro Garnacho 4, Antony 3, Anthony Martial 4.

Manchester United managed to get their first win in the Champions League this season with a 1-0 victory over Copenhagen at Old Trafford.

The only goalscorer of the game was Harry Maguire in the 72nd minute, to give United the lead and secure them the three points.

Read on for our United player ratings, and who stood out for the Red Devils…

Andre Onana – 8.5 – Saved a penalty last minute of the game to secure the victory for United, making four saves throughout the game.

Diogo Dalot – 7.5 – Very solid game from Dalot, stopped everything down his side making four clearances, one block and one tackle, and also making one key pass when getting forward down the right.

Raphael Varane – 7 – His return from injury was a boost for United, making five clearances, one block, completing five of his eight long balls and winning six out of six aerial duels.

Harry Maguire – 8 – The decisive goal scorer for United on the day, and was very solid defensively too. winning five of his seven duels. Big performance from the Englishman.

Sergio Reguilon – 6.5 – Managed 63 minutes at left back and didn’t do too badly, however he did get dribbled past a couple of times on his left flank. Going forwards did offer for United on the overlap, and made one key pass.

Scott McTominay – 6.5 – Covered a lot of ground in midfield, going box to box and making one key pass and creating one big chance. Did pick up a yellow card in the second half and took three off target shots.

Sofyan Amrabat – 5 – Only managed 45 minutes as he went off with a suspected injury, had a pass accuracy of 89% completing 24 of his 27 passes.

Marcus Rashford – 7 – Wanted to be direct down the left, made two key passes, two out of two long balls, and took three shots (one on target, one off target and one being blocked).

Bruno Fernandes – 7.5 – Fernandes created a lot for United, making four key passes, competing four out of six long balls and knitting everything together nicely for the Red Devils.

Antony – 5 – Only played 63 minutes but wasn’t able to have much of an imprint on the game, completed two of his four dribbles but didn’t create anything significant.

Rasmus Hojlund – 5.5 – Not his best game, missing a big chance and taking three shots all off target or blocked. He did make two key passes and hold the ball up well at times so that deserves some credit.

Subs: Christian Eriksen 7, Victor Lindelof 6, Alejandro Garnacho 4, Anthony Martial 4.

Whilst Saturday’s fixture at Bramall Lane isn’t quite a must win for Erik ten Hag and Man United, anything less than three points against Sheffield United will be seen as a huge opportunity missed by the Red Devils.

The Dutchman, whilst taking the fixture as seriously as any other, has switched his team around for the Saturday night encounter, with Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay coming into the starting line up.

Andre Onana keeps his place in goal, with Maguire partnered by Victor Lindelof and the full-back slots taken by Sofyan Amrabat and Diogo Dalot.

McTominay and Jonny Evans will sit behind a three of Antony, Bruno Fernandes, and Marcus Rashford with Rasmus Hojlund ploughing a lone furrow up front.

Sheffield United are already fighting for their Premier League lives.

The Blades are rock bottom of the English top-flight with only one point to their name so far. Just six goals scored and 22 conceded hints at the task ahead of the hosts.

Man United may just have turned the corner with Scott McTominay’s late, late show against Brentford, and if they can get the three points things start looking a lot brighter for ten Hag and the squad.

The manner of the performance is always important to the Red Devils, though getting the result on Saturday, however it comes, is paramount.

It isn’t just the potential partial takeover of Man United that is positive for supporters of the club, as news of contract extensions for three of its important players is released.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe appears on course to buy 25 percent of the Old Trafford outfit from the Glazer family, in return for an investment of just over £1bn.

Part of the scope of the deal is believed to ensure that Sir Jim is given immediate control of sporting matters at the club, though that’s not expected to affect any decisions regarding certain players that have already been made.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the club will hand one-year contract extensions to both Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, as well as ensuring Hannibal Mejbri is looked after in that regard.

What that means in practice is that Erik ten Hag will be able to count on the services of players he trusts for the foreseeable future, and amidst what could be a rollercoaster ride as Sir Jim and his team take a forensic look at what needs to be changed on the sporting side of the business.

It isn’t clear exactly when the partial takeover will conclude owing to the apparent complexity of the deal.

Therefore, the players themselves are likely to be keen to see their own deals signed off in order that they’re able to concentrate on just getting on with their football.

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof signing a new contract with the club would not be surprising, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano in the latest edition of his exclusive column for the Daily Briefing.

Lindelof has been a solid and reliable squad player for Man Utd down the years, and he has spoken publicly about being happy to extend his stay at Old Trafford.

Romano expects this could be the case as Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag trusts the player and sees him as part of his project, so we could perhaps get further confirmation of this soon.

United have plenty of other options at the back, but Lindelof has remained a first-team regular and it makes sense that he’s seen as someone with an important role to play.

Victor Lindelof, however, has suggested he is likely to have his contract extended. Man United always rated him highly, so I’m not surprised,” Romano said.

“Erik ten Hag said no to Inter and Atletico Madrid approaches last January and again in the summer. I’m sure they trust Lindelof for present and future.”

Romano also provided details about the MUFC takeover in yesterday’s episode of The Debrief Podcast, which you can listen to for free here.

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has admitted it looks quite likely that his contract will be extended by a further year and that he’d be happy to stay at Old Trafford.

The Sweden international has been a solid quad player for Man Utd down the years, and it seems like good business for the club to keep hold of him for a bit longer if they can.

Lindelof’s current deal with the Red Devils is due to expire at the end of this season, but it seems the club have the option to trigger one further year on top of that.

That would keep Lindelof at Old Trafford until 2025, and one imagines there’s surely a role for him to play for the club in that period.

From Lindelof’s perspective, it certainly seems like he’d be happy to stay and that he’s perfectly settled at the club he joined from Benfica back in 2017.

Victor Lindelof of Manchester United

“I have an option [for another] year and there is a deadline for it. When exactly I don’t know. But it feels quite likely that it will be activated,” the 29-year-old told Fotbollskanalen.

He added: “I enjoy myself very much. I am entering my seventh year at the club. I feel good and the family feels good. It’s a club that I really like, and that I love to represent.”
