Arsenal and Manchester United could sign 21-goal target for just £20m in January

Brazilian striker Marcos Leonardo continues to be linked with a move away from Santos and he could be on the move during the January transfer window.

A report from 90 Min claims that Arsenal and Manchester United have recently scouted the talented young striker and they could look to make their move for him in the coming months.

The striker’s agent has confirmed that a move is likely during the winter transfer window and it remains to be seen where he ends up.

“Already in the previous transfer window, he had the possibility of being sold,” agent Rafaela Pimenta confirmed to Relevo.

“But Santos’ sporting situation was very particular. He accepted to stay because he wanted to help out until the end of the season. He didn’t want to leave because it wasn’t the right thing to do.

“But the time has come for the transfer. He wants to have a European experience, and his time will come this winter.”

Leonardo is a prodigious young talent with a bright future ahead of him and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for both Arsenal and Manchester United. The Gunners could certainly use more options in the attack, and Leonardo could partner his compatriot Gabriel Jesus at the North London club.

Meanwhile Manchester United need someone to share the goalscoring burden with Rasmus Hojlund and Leonardo would be a solid long-term investment.

The striker has scored 21 goals this year and he could cost around £20 million.

Clubs like West Ham United and Nottingham Forest tried to sign the player at the start of the season but they had offers rejected for him. It will be interesting to see if they decide to return in January.

The fact that the player’s agent has confirmed he could be available in January will come as an encouragement for his suitors.

West Ham United reportedly now fear that they’re going to be beaten to the signing of Marcos Leonardo by Newcastle United.

The talented 20-year-old has been linked with a number of top clubs, including the likes of Real Madrid, but it seems he’s now perhaps more likely to head to St James’ Park as his next destination.

West Ham had been hopeful over signing Leonardo, but it seems their hopes are now fading as they seem to anticipate their rivals moving into pole position for this particular deal.

Newcastle are reportedly set to make a bid for Santos star Marcos Leonardo, who has caught the attention of European giants such as Real Madrid and Roma.

Despite interest from these clubs, the Magpies are counting on the appeal of consistent playing time in the Premier League to secure the forward.

Under Eddie Howe, Newcastle have had a decent start to the season, winning six of their first 12 matches and demonstrating resilience in the Champions League. However, injuries have posed a significant challenge for them, prompting the club’s hierarchy to look to the January transfer window to strengthen their squad.

The Express reports that 20-year-old Brazilian prospect Marcos Leonardo is on their radar, and preparations for an offer are underway.

Leonardo has bagged 13 goals in 27 Brasiliero Seria A starts in 2023, he also managed 13 goals in the previous campaign.

The Magpies already have Brazilian talents in their ranks with Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton. This duo can help mentor the Brazilian youngster if he does indeed make a move to St James’ Park in the January transfer window.

Real Madrid’s bad luck with injuries continues

Real Madrid have been really unlucky with injuries this season. We know what happened with Courtois and Militao in the summer, and then there is the situation with Arda Güler. Now two more players have picked up injuries whilst on international duty and are going to be out for some time.

Eduardo Camavinga has a knee injury and will be out till the end of 2023. The hope is he’ll be available in January for the Super Cup against Atlético Madrid. Vinicius Jr. was injured whilst playing with Brazil against Colombia. Now there is a waiting game for a final decision, in order for everyone to understand how bad the problem is and how long Vinicius will be out of action for.

Real Madrid’s position at the moment is not to be hasty and do anything in the January transfer window. Unless anything changes and perhaps Vinicius Jr’s injury is worse than first thought, Madrid will stay with the same team to the end of the season and then do something in the summer.

Douglas Luiz remains Arsenal’s top target

It’s also important to mention guys that injuries are not helping Arsenal either, with Thomas Partey’s situation ensuring that Arsenal will still look at midfielders in the January transfer window.

I mentioned the name of Douglas Luiz last week as the top target for Arsenal, and I can confirm guys that Arsenal really, really want and appreciate Douglas Luiz. He’s a player they’ve had on their list for more than two years, and Arsenal consider him the perfect midfielder for their way of playing, for his intensity and for the quality he can bring. So many different factors make him top of the list for Arsenal now.

The problem remains that Aston Villa have no intention to let him go in January, so it’s going to be really difficult. It will take a really important proposal to tempt Aston Villa, so something not easy at all. But, for sure, Douglas Luiz is in Arsenal’s list and is a midfielder for the present and the future. Let’s see if they will be able to make it happen in January or they have to look at another solution in midfield.

Badiashile is definitely staying at Chelsea despite Milan rumours

Also guys, in the Italian press we’ve had some rumours about Benoît Badiashile and AC Milan over a potential January move. Guys, what I’m hearing is that the only centre-back expected to leave Chelsea is still Trevoh Chalobah. Chelsea invested big money last year in Badiashile, so letting him go on the cheap is something that they’re absolutely not considering.

It’s true that Milan appreciate the player but at the moment for Chelsea the idea is very clear; the only player leaving in January is Trevoh Chalobah. Chelsea are looking for a centre-back but Badiashile is absolutely part of Chelsea’s plans. For Milan, they would have to spend €35m-€45m and that’s something in January that they can’t and won’t do.

Ivan Toney – Brentford will try any way to keep Ivan Toney in January and then sell him in the summer. It’s still not clear if this will be possible but they will try. I’m not aware of any precise info on release clauses and a new deal with Brentford as of today. As of now, there is only interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, still no concrete negotiations.

Timo Werner – Despite rumours, I have to say no, honestly, I didn’t hear that he’s being offered to other clubs. Some Premier League clubs have asked about his situation as it’s not an easy time for him at Leipzig, but I don’t have any confirmation yet on club names as it’s purely early stages, nothing concrete yet.

Man United – Paul Mitchell remains the favourite for the sporting director post, yes. There are more candidates in the frame but Mitchell has always been the first choice since day one. The announcement is expected next week, then they will make a final decision on a new director.

Marcos Leonardo – He will leave Santos in January and the price could be around €20m, but it’s a complicated package that could include add-ons, percentage on future sale etc. Roma wanted him last August but they had three bids rejected, and now it’s a very open race.

Barcelona – Barça are 100% behind Xavi at this stage, nothing has changed. They all support the manager and trust him for the present and future project. Also he extended his contract just a few weeks ago.

Albert Gudmunsson – I’m not mentioning specific clubs as it’d be disrespectful on the day he signs a new deal at Genoa, but also there’s really nothing now – just scouting activity. Clubs from the Premier League and Bundesliga have sent their people many times to follow him, and his new deal at Genoa is to help them to get good money on any future sale – as well as giving him a bigger salary.

There’s some potentially good news ahead for either West Ham or Newcastle United, after a striker linked with both clubs was said to be leaving their current employers in January.

For both the Magpies and the Hammers, the need for a striker is becoming more acute by the week.

Eddie Howe’s side have been devastated by injuries, and the 14 that they currently have (Premier Injuries) include front men Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak.

West Ham’s problem is completely different in that neither of their main two front men – Michail Antonio and Danny Ings – are injured, but they’ve only found the net twice this season, and both of those goals were scored by Antonio, per WhoScored.

One of the brightest South American prospects is Santos’ 20-year-old Brazilian attacker, Marcos Leonardo.

South American football expert, Tim Vickery (via CaughtOffside), linked the east Londoners with the player, whilst Football Espana note the interest of Real Madrid, Sevilla, Newcastle and Roma.

Fabrizio Romano, speaking to CaughtOffside for his exclusive Daily Briefing column, has given hope to those clubs with his latest transfer update on the player.

“He will leave Santos in January and the price could be around €20m, but it’s a complicated package that could include add-ons, percentage on future sale etc,” he said.

“Roma wanted him last August but they had three bids rejected, and now it’s a very open race.”

At just €20m, Marcos Leonardo would almost certainly represent a bargain in today’s market, even if he happens to be a player for the longer rather than short term.

Newcastle could offer €18 million for 21-goal attacker

Newcastle United have been linked with the move for the Brazilian striker Marcos Leonardo.

The 20-year-old is highly rated in South America and clubs like Real Madrid are keeping tabs on him as well. A report from Bolavip Brasil claims that Newcastle are one of the frontrunners to sign the striker and they are ready to present an offer for around €18 million for Leonardo.

The Santos striker has scored 21 goals and picked up four assists across all competitions this year and he could develop into a key player for Newcastle in the coming seasons. It is no secret that Newcastle need to add more quality and depth to their attacking unit.

Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson have done reasonably well but they are currently sidelined with injuries. Wilson’s injury record in particular is a cause for major concern and Newcastle need more options at their disposal.

Leonardo might not be ready for the Premier League just yet but he has the potential to succeed in English football. He could develop into a quality striker with the right coaching.

Santos forward Marcos Leonardo, 20, is the latest to be tipped to make the jump across the Atlantic Ocean, with a number of suitors interested. Sevilla were initially interested, and while the price tag mentioned for either a January or July move has been set at around €20m, it looks as if they might be priced out.

More recently, Real Madrid, West Ham and Newcastle United have been linked to Leonardo, with his representatives seen at the Santiago Bernabeu recently. In spite of his youth, he has already played 162 times, scoring 54 goals and providing 11 assists.

Arsenal are eyeing up a move for Marcos Leonardo.

According to a report by Fichajes, Mikel Arteta wants to reinforce his team in the short term to ensure they have enough firepower to challenge for major titles. The Spanish manager seems to be keen on adding a new forward to his ranks at Arsenal.

The Gunners have their eyes on 20-year-old Brazilian sensation Marcos Leonardo. The Santos striker has made quite a name for himself of late and he is on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Leonardo has been doing wonders for both the Brazilian youth team and as well as his club. And, his performances haven’t gone unnoticed. In the 2023 season, he has featured in 24 league matches and has found the back of the net on 13 occasions.

While his contract runs until the end of 2026, there is a possibility of him parting ways with the Brazilian club in the winter transfer window. Manchester United and AS Roma are two clubs who have been monitoring him of late. But, it seems Arsenal are the ones leading the race for his signatures.
