Cristiano Ronaldo scored, helping Portugal secure a 2-0 victory against Liechtenstein in the Group J clash on Thursday. The 38-year-old now shares the top scorer position with Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku in the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign.

Having already secured their spot in the finals, Portugal leads Group J with 27 points, eight ahead of second-placed Slovakia. Liechtenstein remains at the bottom with zero points after nine games.

Despite Portugal manager Roberto Martinez choosing not to rest regular starters, his team struggled against the lower-ranked opponents, and the deadlock persisted in the first half. However, in the opening minute of the second half, Diogo Jota’s through ball set up Ronaldo, who cut between two defenders and unleashed an unstoppable left-footed shot that found the net after grazing the crossbar.

Ronaldo further solidified his position as the all-time top scorer in international football, reaching 128 goals in 204 matches.

In the 56th minute, Joao Cancelo extended Portugal’s lead, capitalising on a goalkeeper error by Benjamin Buechel, who was out of position, and struck the ball into the empty net.

Portugal host Iceland in their final qualifying game on November 19, and then Roberto Martinez can begin to solely focus on his first international tournament with Portugal.

The Spanish coach will be hoping to fair much better than his previous European Championship campaign with Belgium as they crashed out in the quarter-final stage in 2021, losing 2-1 to the eventual winners Italy.

Liverpool have been beaten 3-2 by Toulouse in their Europa League clash as the Reds have to wait a while longer to progress to the next round of the competition. 

It has been a crazy second half in France after the game went into the halftime break with the Ligue 1 side 1-0 ahead.

The home side doubled their lead after 58 minutes before a bizarre own goal handed Liverpool a lifeline.

The French side snatched that away immediately to make it 3-1 but Diogo Jota pulled another back very late in the game.

Liverpool thought they scored an equaliser with the last kick of the match but it was disallowed for a controversial VAR decision.

Diogo Jota has given Liverpool the lead against Nottingham Forest and dedicated the goal to his teammate Luis Diaz.

Alexis Mac Allister played a huge role as he won the ball back with a great challenge inside his own half before releasing Mo Salah. Mo Salah played through Darwin Nunez whose first time shot is saved but Jota is there to score on the rebound.

Jota headed straight to the bench to grab a Luis Diaz shirt as he dedicated the goal to the Colombian whose parents were kidnapped by armed men in their home town last night.

Liverpool have taken the lead in their Europa League clash with Toulouse thanks to a top-class goal from Diogo Jota. 

The Reds are looking to make it three wins from three in the competition tonight and Jurgen Klopp’s men are off to the perfect start.

Within the first ten minutes of the clash, Jota picked the ball up just inside the French side’s half and went on an impressive run before calmly finishing it off past Guillaume Restes in the Toulouse net.

The officials in the Tottenham vs Liverpool game at the weekend continue to make headlines for all the wrong reasons, with a Premier League Panel suggesting that they also got the decision wrong when sending Diogo Jota off for the Reds.

Jota was dismissed for two yellow cards, putting Jurgen Klopp’s side at a significant disadvantage for the remainder of the match, given that Curtis Jones had already been red carded earlier.

ESPN have seen the Panel’s assessments which note that the second tackle on Spurs ace, Destiny Udogie, wasn’t worthy of a yellow card.

Though it won’t have any bearing on the result, it’s another nail in the coffin for Howard Webb and the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL).

Arguably, it’s been the worst week in a long, long time for a refereeing organisation that have consistently been under the spotlight, particularly in the VAR era, as not being fit for purpose.

Mike Riley was the former chief of PGMOL and much of the carry over of incompetence is from his era in charge.

Webb, to his credit, appears more willing to engage with clubs and stakeholders when mistakes have been made, as the releasing of audio and a recent appearance on Sky Sports would attest.

Ultimately, however, talk is cheap. PGMOL must do better.

A new footage on social media shows that Diogo Jota’s first booking was a wrong decision as the Portuguese never touched Destiny Udogie.

A new angle of the incident shows the Tottenham defender tripping over his own legs as he went down with no apparent contact with Jota at all.

This proved costly for the Liverpool attacker as just moments after he was rightfully booked as he slid into the Tottenham man after losing the ball.

The Jota sending off saw the Reds go down to 9 men with Curtis Jones already being sent off in the first half.

The game was a turning point as Klopp proceeded to set Liverpool to defend there after. And while they fought hard to keep Spurs from scoring, right in the last minute, Pedro Porro’s teasing cross was directed in the own net by Joel Matip resulting in a Tottenham win.

Things have gone from bad to worse for Liverpool as Diogo Jota gets sent off.

Curtis Jones was sent off for a challenge on Bissouma early in the first half and Liverpool had gone a goal down soon after with Son giving Spurs the lead.

However, Liverpool showed great response as Cody Gakpo scored the equaliser right at the end of the first half.

But Diogo Jota who came on for the Dutchmen in the second half had a moment of madness as two tackles in 22 seconds resulted in 2 yellows and he was sent off.

Liverpool look to have booked their place in the next round of the EFL Cup as a world-class goal from Diogo Jota made it 3-1 to the Reds against Leicester City.

The home side had to come from behind in the match after the Foxes scored after just three minutes but it has been all Liverpool ever since.

Goals from Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai completed the comeback for Jurgen Klopp’s team but a world-class goal from Jota has put the cherry on top of the result.
