Manchester United are reportedly preparing for January transfer approaches for winger Amad.

That’s according to a recent report from Football Transfers, who claim the young Ivorian is a candidate to join Wolves for the second half of the season.

Despite signing for the Red Devils from Atalanta for £37 million (Sky Sports) in 2020, Amad, 21, who is currently out with a back injury, has struggled to become a regular first-team player.

And with his game limited, as well as being ruled out for such a long period of time, United are thought to be open to allowing the 21-year-old to leave the club on a temporary basis.

There is also the option to introduce the African back through the Under-21s time but with Wolves viewed as a ‘legitimate’ destination in January, Erik Ten Hag may prefer his number 16 to get some proper competitive football back under his belt.

During his three years at Old Trafford, Amad, who has two years left on his deal, has directly contributed to two goals in nine games in all competitions.

Manchester United have confirmed that Amad will miss the first part of next season through injury.

Amad, 21, picked up an injury against Arsenal during the side’s pre-season tour of the United States. Although the Ivory Coast winger was quick to cool speculation he was seriously injured, he has failed to feature since.

And according to the club, via their official website, the 21-year-old will continue to face a prolonged period on the sidelines.

“Unfortunately, he (Amad) has also been ruled out of the first part of the 2023/24 campaign and we await further details on his estimated recovery date, with the home league clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers up first for Erik ten Hag’s Reds on Monday 14 August,” the club announced.

Despite being introduced as a second-half substitute against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal on Saturday, Amad was forced to withdraw less than 20 minutes later after twisting his ankle.

However, although the young African was later spotted leaving the Met Life Stadium on crutches, Ten Hag, who spoke to reporters on Tuesday, has confirmed his number 16’s injury is ‘not too bad’ and is expecting him to return to training soon.

“He’s not too bad,” the Dutchman said, as quoted by MEN.

“Today he was running again, not involved in the group but tomorrow we hope he can join in training.”

United’s next pre-season friendly is set to be against Wrexham on Wednesday. The game, which will be played at the Snapdragon Stadium in California, is scheduled to kick off at 3.30 a.m. (UK time) and will be broadcast live on MUTV.

Amad has enjoyed a fine campaign, and after his wonder strike against Preston North End last weekend helped secure the Black Cats’ place in the playoffs, his season isn’t over yet.

Set to play Luton Town on May 13 in the playoffs’ first semi-final, Amad will be hoping he can contribute again to the northerners’ bid to return to England’s big time.

Since joining the Red Devils from Serie A side Atalanta 18-months-ago, Amad, 20, who was signed for £35m (€41m) has failed to progress and reach the levels originally expected of him.

Forced out on loan for the second half of last season, the 20-year-old, who joined Rangers, endured a disappointing spell before arriving back at Old Trafford earlier this summer.

Following the Red Devils’ recent blockbuster signing of Antony from Ajax, Amad is now even further down Erik ten Hag’s pecking order and in order to secure playing time, the young Ivorian may have to move to England’s second-tier.
