Despite the evident problems that encountered Daniel Farke when he arrived at the club, the German still took up the post willingly.

He knew from the outset the good and the bad nature of the role, but that didn’t stop him from believing that he could be the man to bring back the glory days.

So far, he has been proved right, because ahead of this weekend’s fixtures, the all whites remain in a creditable third position and on the coat-tails of the top two.

It’s a far cry from the shambolic way the club were hiring and firing managers willy-nilly during 2022/23.

Firstly Jesse Marsch, then Javi Gracia and finally, Sam Allardyce. All three of them fared equally as badly as the other, with the appointment of ‘Big Sam’ with just four matches of the season to play being a real head-scratcher.

Things could’ve been different if the club had picked up the phone to Harry Redknapp.

“I would’ve walked there (to Elland Road), I’ll be truthful, if someone would’ve asked me,” he told Kammy & Ben’s Proper Football Podcast.

“My life is good, I’m happy, but I wouldn’t be able to say no, honestly, if someone came along and said ‘Harry will you come and manage us?’ I would’ve dived head first like always and thought about it afterwards. I was never in the running for that job anyway so…”

Like Allardyce and Alan Pardew et al, Redknapp is yesterday’s man and belongs in a different football era altogether.

It’s amost certain that the Leeds faithful wouldn’t have been that accepting of a 76-year-old manager whose best days are well behind him.

Leeds United’s loaned-out midfielder Marc Roca has spoken out on his future, saying he hopes to make his transfer to Real Betis permanent.

The 26-year-old joined Leeds from Bayern Munich in 2022, but it’s fair to say he never really produced his best form for the Yorkshire outfit, who ended last season being relegated from the Premier League to the Championship.

This saw Roca move on loan to Betis, and he’s now unsurprisingly keen to make that move a permanent one.

Discussing the latest on his situation, he said: “It is true that we are in contact with the club. Let’s see how everything evolves. It is also my representative’s job to reach an agreement… Then Betis has to talk to Leeds. I am very comfortable here.”

He added: “It’s not easy to sign here and that’s it. There are many contracts, interests of each club, each one tries to get the most out of it… I’m waiting, watching from the outside. I don’t want to get involved either.

“My job is to train hard, try to contribute when it’s my turn to play and that’s what I dedicate myself to. With the trust I have with my agent, I let him do his job.”

Leeds fans will be disappointed this didn’t work out, but it’s now surely time for all parties to move on, with there being little point in keeping an unhappy player.

It also seems that things have worked out well for the Spaniard with Betis, so one imagines the La Liga outfit would also be happy to keep him at the club on a more long-term basis.

The strength of Leeds United as a club at present can perhaps be seen by the news that they turned down multiple bids for one of their midfielders this past summer.

Considering how many players they let go as well as how many were kept and brought in, that speaks volumes for the regard in which they hold the player concerned.

Daniel Farke knows exactly what it takes to get a team up from the Championship to the Premier League and surely would have done his homework on the squad prior to taking over and in the first few weeks he had in the job.

He likely will have identified the various skill sets, and which players he could rely on to get them into a position whereby they would peak at just the right time.

What’s odd then, is that he hasn’t given Lewis Bate a chance so far in 2023/24.

The 21-year-old is apparently “desperate” to play for the club according to Football League World sources, however, Farke has shown no interest to this point.

It does beg the question why the club turned down so many offers for him in the summer window (h/t Football League World), if they didn’t intend to use him.

Clearly, not playing doesn’t do anyone any favours, and the sooner the situation is resolved, the better for all concerned.

That may come as early as January as Leeds could use the window to loan him out for the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign.

It’s been fascinating watching Leeds United this season, and the Elland Road faithful can’t have failed to have been impressed.

Daniel Farke has put the emphasis on playing entertaining, attacking football, but with a seriously hard work ethic at the centre of it all.

The German’s experience of guiding teams up into the Premier League will really come into its own in the second half of the season, and if the all whites can continue in the same way as they have since Farke took over, there’s a very good chance indeed that Leeds will find themselves as one of the two teams automatically going up.

When you consider just what the first-team management and squad have had to deal with in the initial stages of the 2023/24 campaign and yet still find themselves in third position in the Championship, it does make you speculate on just where their ceiling could be in the current campaign.

One of their on loan defenders has even hinted that he may play for the club again should they get promoted.

“Leeds are playing very well,” Max Wober said to Austrian outlet Laola1.

“They play really cool football, it’s fun to watch. If they continue like this, everything looks like they are going up. Then the whole thing is not really in my hands.”

Should Leeds reach the promised land at the first time of asking, and Farke prove beyond doubt that he’s the man for the job, there’s every reason to believe that Elland Road will once again become a destination where players want to be.

Leeds United wonderkid Archie Gray is likely to be happy to stay at the club for a long time as he’s only currently focused on making it in Daniel Farke’s first-team.

The talented youngster has been linked with the likes of Liverpool in recent times, but journalist Dean Jones has provided an update on the player’s situation, and it sounds like reassuring news for Leeds fans.

Gray may well be snapped up by a bigger club at some point if he continues to develop like this, but Leeds fans can surely relax for now as Jones insists he’s only focused on making it for his current employers.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones explained that he doesn’t think anyone at Leeds is “concerned” right now, with the player “hungry” to be a LUFC player.

He said: “I think he’ll stay at Leeds for the time being. Further down the line, it will depend on how far Leeds has been able to push themselves.

“If they can’t get back to the Premier League, his future will surely be in doubt. But, for now, I think he just has to focus on being a Leeds player.”

Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson has made the point that bringing in a new director of football now could be damaging for the club and derail the progress being made under Daniel Farke this season.

Robinson believes that Leeds need to tread carefully on this issue and discuss any appointments like this with Farke first, amid links with Stuart Webber, who has become available after leaving Norwich City.

Leeds probably need to make changes at board level soon, but Robinson seems wise to urge caution here and not move too quickly when there’s the risk of disrupting the balance at the club after some good progress this season since last year’s relegation from the Premier League.

“I suspect they would speak with the manager. He’s doing an excellent job at the moment. The board and the owners, you don’t want to change that or disrupt that,” the former England goalkeeper said.

“And if you’re going to bring in somebody above the manager in that capacity that the manager’s relationship may not be ideal with then why do it?”

Leeds are currently third in the Championship, just eight points off league leaders Leicester City.

Leeds United manager, Daniel Farke, has already done enough in the short time that he’s been at the club to justify any decisions he makes.

The German has certainly had more than his fair share of drama to deal with since he took over the reins at the beginning of the 2023/24 campaign, and that he has the all whites in third place already and just eight points behind the top two speaks volumes as to his managerial nous and tactical acumen.

Leeds are playing really well at this point having won away at both Ipswich and Leicester, and if they can continue with their upward trajectory, there’s no reason at all why they can’t be there or thereabouts at the end of the season in terms of promotion.

One player that won’t be involved in any push for an immediate return to the English top-flight is Marc Roca.

Currently on loan at Spanish outfit, Real Betis, it appears that the 26-year-old doesn’t have a future at Elland Road.

‘Betis sought an option to sign Roca permanently, and the only obstacle for them might be their tight budget,’ Phil Hay wrote in The Athletic (subcription required).

‘They are not cash-rich. But Leeds have no plans to re-involve him and people close to Roca say he is also minded to think that his days at Elland Road are done.

‘His £10million move from Bayern Munich in summer 2022 goes down as another failed transfer.’

Given how well Leeds have been playing in his absence, there’s an argument that they can do without him, with the only real issue for the player being whether Betis can afford to take him permanently.

With football becoming the booming business that it is, the very top clubs, such as Man City, will always be interested in youngsters coming through the ranks at other clubs.

As costs for players begin to spiral, even at the younger end of the spectrum, only those with seemingly endless cash reserves will be able to afford to procure the best talent.

To that end, Leeds United have been left with little choice than to accept an incredible £1.2m offer for Finley Gorman from the Cityzens.

According to Football Insider, the deal is actually a record for someone of his age, and whilst the report states that Daniel Farke isn’t happy at seeing the player move on, it’s understandable from his and his family’s point of view.

In the longer-term it’s hard to tell whether the decision will prove to be the correct one, but as so often before, players are assuaged by the standing of the club in the world game.

Ahead of the Club World Cup, regardless of whether they win it or not, you’d be hard pressed to disagree with anyone that says Man City are the best team in the world at present.

Leeds remain a big club but aren’t anywhere close to the level City are at, and the worry for the all whites and any other club in future is that they’ll nurture talent through their academy ranks only to have them bought up further down the line.

As unpalatable thought as it is, such deals remain part of the modern game.

Daniel Farke is certainly steering Leeds in the right direction in 2023/24, mirroring the good work he did whilst at Norwich, whom he famously got promoted from the Championship.

For the all whites to go up at the first time of asking it will need one of either Leicester City or Ipswich Town to have a significant wobble during the middle to late part of the campaign.

At present, Leeds are in third place but are eight points behind both Ipswich and the Foxes.

They’ve shown, with wins away at both, that they’re more than capable of beating anyone in the division on their day, and with the motivation of having someone to aim at clearly a driving force, Farke is unlikely to let up in his quest to get the side into the automatic promotion places.

One of the reasons why they’ve been doing so well this season is the form of Joe Rodon, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

Leeds fans will be delighted to learn that the 26-year-old is going to stay at the club beyond the Janaury window too.

“Joe will stay with us (beyond January). He’s an important player for my plans and it is important we have stability,” Farke said to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“I am happy and pleased with his development, he has to keep going and that’s important. So far so good but it is always about the next game. We have to make sure we are there with good performances and he has been brilliant so far.”

If he can maintain the form he’s shown in the early part of the season, then Leeds will almost certainly have half a chance at reaching the promised land by next summer.
