England have beaten Malta 2-0, on rather flat evening for the Three Lions. However an own goal and a Harry Kane goal earnt England a victory and three points.

Rice had one chalked off, which would have made it 3-0 England, but that would have been a rather flattering scoreline for the performance from the Three Lions.

Read on for our England player ratings, and who stood out for the Three Lions…

Jordan Pickford – 6 – Didn’t have to make a save, and only made the one punch, made 41/41 passes but was un tested so can’t be rated higher.

Fikayo Tomori – 6 – Taken off at half time, played in a slightly unfamiliar left back role, becoming a back three in possession. Made two tackles and completed four out five long balls.

Harry Maguire – 6.5 – Kept a clean sheet of course, and made two clearances and one block. Also completed 10/10 long balls, and won 7/7 aerial duels.

Marc Guehi – 6 – Not to much to do, made two interceptions and made 103/106 accurate passes, with 7/8 long balls.

Kieran Trippier – 6 – Managed two tackles, one clearance and one interception at right back, also making one key pass and completing 5/5 long balls.

Conor Gallagher – 5 – Subbed at half time to bring on the more attacking Bukayo Saka, worked hard and won some duels in midfield, however was a little sloppy in possession on a few occasions.

Jordan Henderson – 5 – Subbed after 61 minutes, played 2/2 long balls and won 2/4 ground duels. Didn’t offer enough in the middle of the park when playing out.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7 – Could have created more but did get forward in central midfield, getting four shots off (two on target) and making one key pass.

Marcus Rashford – 5 – Subbed after 61 minutes, struggled to get himself in the game, had one shot which was blocked and only completed 2/6 of his dribbles.

Harry Kane – 7.5 – Scored the goal to give England a 2-0 lead, and allow them breathing room. However wasn’t as involved as he could have been, only having 34 touches.

Phil Foden – 8 – Tried to make things happen whenever he got the ball, made three key passes, completed 4/4 dribbles and looked the most dangerous player on the pitch.

Subs: Bukayo Saka 7, Kyle Walker 6 , Cole Palmer 6 , Declan Rice 6

England managed to beat Italy 3-1 in their EURO qualifying game, to secure their qualification to EURO 2024.

After Italy took the lead in the 15th minute, England battled back to win the game 3-1 with goals from Harry Kane (x2) and Marcus Rashford to secure their qualification to EURO 2024 with two games to spare.

Read on for our England player ratings, and who helped the Three Lions secure qualification…

Jordan Pickford – 7 – Pickford made three saves, including two from inside the box, and made 40 accurate passes. Not much he could do about the Italy goal, was a shot from very close range,

Kieran Trippier – 6.5 – Trippier played left back which he has done on many occasions for England despite being a natural right back. Made two clearances, one interception and two tackles, and made one key pass.

Harry Maguire – 7 – Was solid throughout, made two clearances, one block, one interception and two tackles, as well as making 69/74 accurate passes, and completing six out of ten long passes.

John Stones – 6.5 – Played 63 minutes, only having to make two defensive actions (one block and one interception). Was still getting on the ball a lot in build up with 61/64 accurate passes, and winning two out of his three ground duels.

Kyle Walker – 7 – Kept things quiet down the right flank, making two clearances, one block, and two interceptions. Walker also made three out of three long balls.

Declan Rice – 6.5 – Not as much to do as usual for Rice, only making one clearance and one tackle in the middle of the park. However he won both of his duels (2/2) and had a 93% pass accuracy, keeping it simple in the middle.

Kalvin Phillips – 6 – Had a few rash challenges, picking up a yellow and could have had another to make it red. Just looked a few seconds off the pace on the night. Only made one tackle and one interception.

Marcus Rashford – 7.5 – Scored a lovely goal to give England a 2-1 lead. Took four shots (two on target and two off target), completed two out of three dribble attempts, and won five out of his eight duels.

Jude Bellingham – 9 – Ran the game playing slightly further forward again for England in attacking midfield. Won the penalty to get England back in the game, and then broke free in midfield to release Rashford for the second goal. Made two key passes, had one shot on target and completed three out of his four dribble attempts.

Phil Foden – 7 – Least involved in the front four, but still made one key pass and had one shot on target playing out wide. Linked up well with Bellingham, and completed two out of his five dribble attempts.

Harry Kane – 8 – Scored the penalty to make it 1-1, and then scored the third England goal of the game to secure the victory with a lovely solo goal and wonderful finish. Scored two goals with his only two shots.

Subs: Marc Guehi 5, Jordan Henderson 5, Jack Grealish 4.

England were 1-0 winners over Australia on Friday night at Wembley but a big talking point from the match was a section of home supporters booing Jordan Henderson.

The former Liverpool star was booed off by England supporters as the midfielder made his first appearance at Wembley since his controversial summer move to Saudi Arabia. Henderson was the captain on the night for the Three Lions in Harry Kane’s absence and the midfielder was substituted in the 62nd minute of the match.

As the 33-year-old left the pitch, a section of England supporters booed the former Liverpool midfielder for an unknown reason.

Manager Gareth Southgate could not understand why this was done and addressed the issue after the match. The Three Lions coach said via talkSPORT: “I really don’t understand it – he is a player, I think it is 79 caps now for England.

“His commitment and what he has done for England is exceptional.

“His role on and off the pitch is phenomenally important.

“So yeah some people decided to boo but I really don’t understand what that is for.”

Henderson has now responded for the first time on Instagram following the incident at Wembley. In his post, the 35-year-old said: “Always an honour to represent my country, never take it for granted. Extra special to lead the team out at Wembley.”

England are in action again on Tuesday as they face Italy as part of their EURO 2024 qualifying campaign and it will be interesting to see how the crowd reacts to the Al Ettifaq star.

Kieran Trippier has hailed Jordan Henderson after the midfielder was booed off the pitch against Australia on Friday evening.

The former Liverpool player captained England during their 1-0 win against Australia at Wembley as Gareth Southgate fielded a second-string team.

Henderson has been ridiculed for his stance on LGBTQ rights after making a controversial move to Saudi Arabia in the summer and was booed off the pitch when substituted on Friday evening.

His replacement on the night, Kieran Trippier, has sung the praises of his England teammate, hailing him as a ‘leader.

“I’m going to be honest I didn’t even notice it. I was obviously focused on coming on.” Trippier said via the Independent.

“But, listen, Hendo has how many caps? 80 odd caps I think it is that he’s represented England. For me, I see him on daily basis, he is an unbelievable character, he’s a leader. What he does for the team, playing or not playing.

“To be honest with you, I didn’t even recognise the reception because obviously I’m focused on my job to help the team cross the line and win.

“But for me all I can say on Hendo is he’s a great leader, an unbelievable person to have in the dressing room and I think 80 caps plus speaks for himself.

“On and off the pitch he’s a winner, the way he demands in training, the way he demands in games, in the dressing room before the games. He makes sure everyone trains properly, he sets standards and even myself at 33, when I look at him I follow it.”

Gareth Southgate has stated that he can’t understand why Jordan Henderson was booed on Friday evening.

England won their international friendly against Australia 1-0 on Friday evening at Wembley.

Ollie Watkins grabbed the winning goal in the 56th minute in a rather tame affair between both sides with Southgate opting to field a more inexperienced eleven.

One of the most experienced players on the pitch, Henderson, was given the captain’s armband but was booed off the pitch when he was substituted in the 62nd minute.

Southgate stated that he couldn’t understand why in his post-match press conference.

“I really don’t understand it. He’s a player, 79 caps for England, his commitment and what he’s delivered for England is exceptional,” he said via Sky Sports.

“His role on and off the pitch is phenomenally important. He’s taken the likes of Bellingham under his wing. He’s a role model for the group in every part of his work.

“This is a team that are delivering a lot and they all deserve every bit of support.

England were 1-0 winners over Australia on Friday night as Gareth Southgate’s side prepared for their big clash with Italy next Tuesday but one star was booed off the pitch at Wembley.

According to the Daily Mail, former Liverpool star Jordan Henderson was booed off by England supporters as the midfielder made his first appearance at Wembley since his controversial summer move to Saudi Arabia.

Henderson was the captain on the night for the Three Lions in Harry Kane’s absence and the midfielder was substituted in the 62nd minute of the match.

As the 33-year-old left the pitch, a section of England supporters booed the former Liverpool midfielder for an unknown reason.

Henderson leaving the pitch against Australia

One reason could be that the fans simply did not like his performance but the report suggests that it may be linked to his move to Saudi Arabia this summer. The 33-year-old joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq from Liverpool and he faced backlash from fans after agreeing to the deal due to his past history of publicly and vocally advocating for LGBTQ + rights during his time at Anfield.

The reason may come to light in the coming days but it is clear that some England fans are not happy with the star.

England managed to beat Australia 1-0, after Ollie Watkins gave England the lead in the 57th minute.

In a game that lacked creativity in the final third, England still managed to conjure up a victory, making it two wins in a row, and remaining unbeaten since December 2022. England will now take on Italy in a EURO qualifying game, on Tuesday 17th October.

Read on for our England player ratings, and who stood out for the Three Lions…

Sam Johnstone – 8 – Johnstone made an excellent save early in the game to keep England at 0-0, and managed to keep yet another clean sheet. Making four saves (three of which were inside the box), along with three high claims, Johnstone impressed.

Levi Colwill – 7.5 – Filling in at left-back for his England debut in the absence of Luke Shaw and Ben Chilwell, and he didn’t look at all out of place. Had 107 touches, making 78/92 accurate passes and getting involved in the build up for England. He also defended his channel really well, and was only dribbled past once.

Lewis Dunk – 8 – Dunk was the leader of this rather young back line, and put in another great performance for the Three Lions. Dunk made a clearance off of the line, as well as making three total clearances, one block and one interception, he also made 112/119 accurate passes, with a 94% completion rate.

Fikayo Tomori – 7 – Tomori did his job, making 52/52 accurate passes, and making four clearances. He was just slightly less in the game than the left sides defenders such as Dunk and Colwill, and wasn’t as noticeable, but he had a tidy performance not making any glaring mistakes.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7 – Trent looked to invert into midfield as he does for Liverpool, and did manage to play two key passes, offering his creative threat. He completed 5/10 long balls and completed two out of his three crosses.

Conor Gallagher – 5.5 – Gallagher had quiet game, apart from his yellow card which could have then turned red after another rash challenge not long after. Only had 32 touches and only made 18 accurate passes out of 24, the game just passed him by.

Jordan Henderson – 6 – Captained England against Australia, and you could hear him commanding his team on the pitch, he also got on the ball more than Gallagher, having 63 touches and making 52/56 passes. Just wasn’t very progressive in the middle.

James Maddison – 6 – Not his best game, but he did make one key pass and create one big chance. Playing slightly further forward in midfield as more of a number 10,  he would have liked to create more and be more involved in the final third.

Jack Grealish – 6.5 – Grealish looked like the most creative England player against Australia, attacking his left channel when he could, making two key passes and creating one big chance. He also managed one shot on target.

Ollie Watkins – 7.5 – Unlucky to not score in the first half after rounding the keeper and hitting the post, but got his goal in the second half which turned out to be the winner. Was a willing runner in behind all game, and got his reward for being in the right place in the box.

Jarrod Bowen – 6 – Another attacker who is in fine form for their club, but didn’t produce his best today. Managed three shots (one on target), but apart from that he wasn’t massively involved and could have done more.

Subs: Marcus Rashford 4.5, Kieran Trippier 5, John Stones 5, Kalvin Phillips 6, Phil Foden 5, Eddie Nketiah 5.

Al Ettifaq star Jordan Henderson has named who he thinks is the best player in the world right now and the former Liverpool star has stated that it is Mohamed Salah.

The Reds forward has certainly been up there with the best players in the world over recent years and the Egypt winger has started this season in fine fashion also. However, not many would label him the best player on the planet and Henderson admits that he is slightly biased towards the Liverpool star as he is a friend.

Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi would be the most popular choices for the title as the Argentina star is the favourite to win the next Ballon d’Or.

talkSPORT pundit Ally McCoist has made the bold claim that England midfielder Jordan Henderson would not get into the Scotland midfield.

McCoist named Scott McTominay, Callum McGregor, John McGinn and Billy Gilmour as midfielders that get in ahead of Henderson. He went on the praise the Scotland midfield as the strongest area on the pitch (along with left side of defence).

At this moment in time, McCoist said he would struggle to leave any of those previous names out of the squad, but he also went on to say Henderson would clearly get games for Scotland due to the level of player he is, but in current form he would struggle to get in the side.

Scotland take on England on Tuesday the 12th of September at Hampden Park, the last time the two faced the score ended 0-0, and the record between the two sides currently stands at 48 wins for England, 41 wins for Scotland and 26 draws.

This will be the 116th game between the two, and both teams will be eager to get one up over the opponent.

Jordan Henderson has been making headlines this week after giving an interview about his controversial decision to leave Liverpool for a transfer to Al Ettifaq this summer.

The England international spoke to The Athletic about why he was keen on the challenge of moving to Saudi Arabia, and why he still hopes he can be a good ally to the LGBTQ+ community despite the backlash over his decision.

Henderson suggested in the interview that he wouldn’t have been as keen on a move to one of Liverpool’s Premier League rivals, and Fabrizio Romano has given some exclusive insight to CaughtOffside about how the saga unfolded.

Writing in his CaughtOffside column on Substack today, Romano said that the salary offer from Al Ettifaq always made them the favourites to sign Henderson, while it also seems there wasn’t anything concrete emerging for the 33-year-old in England or anywhere else in Europe anyway.

Jordan Henderson in action for Al Ettifaq

“There was also nothing concrete this summer for Jordan Henderson in Europe, not even from English clubs,” Romano said.

“Speaking in his interview with The Athletic, Henderson suggested he wouldn’t have been as tempted to play for another Premier League club, and also from what I understand Al Ettifaq’s interest came early in the summer, so there was probably not even time to make a move for other clubs.

“They also made a big contract proposal, and no one had the chance to match that salary – Al Ettifaq were always the favourites.”
