Lucas Moura has been criticised by pundit Dean Saunders as his error led to Tottenham Hotspur conceding a late winner at the hands of Liverpool.

Spurs were beaten 4-3 after scoring a late equaliser through Richarlison. Following the headed goal from the forward, the Liverpool goalkeeper Alison booted the ball up the field.

It fell to Moura, who miss-controlled it and that allowed Diogo Jota to break towards the goal and find the back of the net in the fourth minute of added time.

Lucas Moura

Speaking on TalkSport, Saunders was flabbergasted at the decision-making by Moura. He claimed there were two options for him to make and he did neither.

He stated, “He’s [Lucas Moura] got three options in the 93rd minute an experienced player at Anfield. They’ve just equalised, was it the 94th minute? The ball’s been hit on him, he’s got plenty of time to see it come in. Option one, head it back where it come from. Option two is chest, volley back where it come from and there isn’t an option three but he managed to find one which was a backpass, ridiculous decision.”

It’s an error that cost Spurs a chance at getting a draw at Anfield, the defeat leaves them nine points adrift from a top-four place.

From Moura’s perspective, you have to feel sorry for him in our view. This is a player who’s been a long-standing servant to Tottenham and brought them an iconic moment when his goal led to Spurs getting a place in the 2019 Champions League final.

However, with his contract up at the end of the season, this could be the last memory a number of Spurs fans have when it comes to Moura’s time in North London.

Dean Saunders has claimed that Chelsea owner Todd Boehly does not know what he’s doing after Chelsea lost 2-0 to Real Madrid this evening.

Goals from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio gave Real a healthy cushion going into the second leg at Stamford Bridge but Saunders went in on Boehly for his actions before the game.

Speaking on Talksport this evening, Saunders claimed that Boehly has little experience in owning a football club, referencing the manic change in management and also questioning his decision to say in front of the media that the Blues would win 3-0 prior to the match.

He’s got no experience, none at all. This is the highest level of football and it’s like me going into the NFL with £500million in my pocket.

The first thing I’d say if I became owner of an NFL team is ‘Who’s my manager?’. And then show me the evidence as to why said manager is the man to lead 28 superstars. I’d want the best manager to be at my club.”

Boehly has come under fire for some of his decisions since becoming Chelsea owner

Saunders went on say that Boehly has little idea what he’s doing after getting rid of Thomas Tuchel and now has ended up with a manager who isn’t even likely to be at the club next season.

In this situation, he’s [Boehly] gone from a top two, top three manager in the world in Tuchel, to Graham Potter, to Frank Lampard who is part-time, going into the Real Madrid game. That is not knowing what you’re doing.”

A day to forget for Chelsea fans and Boehly as they wait for this tough season to come to an end.

After coming close to winning the Europa League last season, it’s a bit of a head-scratcher as to why West Ham are now in the Premier League relegation spots, and talkSPORT’s Jason Cundy didn’t hold back on his show regarding the plight of the east Londoners.

The Hammers could conceivably end the weekend bottom of the pile if they lose to current basement boys Southampton in what has become the very definition of a relegation six-pointer.

Discussing which clubs might save themselves from the trap door this season, Cundy, speaking to fellow pundit, Dean Saunders, just couldn’t believe that West Ham were down at the foot of the table.

“I can’t believe West Ham United are there, what’s happened, how has that happened?’ he asked.

“How has this happened?! This is a side that I felt were going to go on and win the Europa League last season.

“They had a brilliant, in fact, really good two seasons. This season, they’ve spent about £140m-£150m. How are they there?!”

Liverpool host Man United in the Premier League on Sunday and ahead of the game, pundit Dean Saunders has brought up an old memory from a previous meeting of the teams to criticise Trent Alexander-Arnold.

In 2018, Man United defeated Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford with Rashford scoring the two goals and the winger ran rings around his England teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Reds right-back has often been criticised for his defending ever since and Saunders has used that match from five years ago as a stick to beat the Liverpool star with.

The former footballer has stated that Alexander-Arnold has not learned how to defend and that is simply not true.

“5 years ago, we watched Marcus Rashford cut inside of Trent Alexander-Arnold and I thought, ‘okay, well, he’s 19, we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, he’ll learn from that.’ But I’m sorry to say, he just hasn’t seemed to have learnt”, Saunders said on talkSPORT.

This seems very harsh but it is something the Liverpool star must be used to at this stage.

Harry Maguire’s Man United career looks to be coming to an end.

The experienced defender, although very much in favour at international level, has fallen way down in Erik Ten Hag’s pecking order.

Losing his place recently to Luke Shaw, who has been instructed to fill in at centre-back, Maguire, who has two-and-a-half years left on his deal, looks destined to leave Old Trafford sooner rather than later.

Speaking about the possibility of seeing Maguire secure a transfer elsewhere, former striker Dean Saunders, who spoke live on TalkSPORT, admitted Ten Hag is making it ‘obvious’ the 29-year-old has no future with the 20-time league winners and has highlighted Spurs as an ideal destination for the former Leicester City man.

Gareth Bale has been told to join Newcastle United amid uncertainty over his future,

The Welshman will leave Real Madrid when his contract ends at the end of this month, and we don’t know where he will go next.

With Wales qualified for the World Cup, it’s clear Bale wants to continue playing for at least another season, and he has been linked with a shock move to boyhood club Cardiff City.

It would be quite the surprise if the winger was playing Championship football next season, but recent reports have suggested that he has other options.

Newcastle are said to be interested in signing the forward this summer, but they face an uphill battle to convince Bale he is better off at St James’ Park rather than returning home.

But they do have Premier League football to offer, and they are a growing club thanks to their new-found wealth.

And former Wales international Dean Saunders believes Bale would be better off in the North East.

“If I could pick a club for him to go to now, I’d say sign for Newcastle. They’ve got a project; they’re going in the right direction – he would slot in,” he told talkSPORT.

“The fans right now in Newcastle, because I’ve been there and I worked there – and I realise how much they love the club – right now they could sell 80,000 season tickets.”

Ex-Liverpool forward Dean Saunders claims his old club are lacking a player like Manchester United’s all-time record goalscorer Wayne Rooney.

The one-time England international left Old Trafford to return to Everton in 2017, before making a move to the United States with DC United the following year.

The 33-year-old has been a huge success in the MLS, scoring 23 goals in 43 appearances, most of which have added to the long list of spectacular strikes he has amassed over the course of his career.

Sky Sports reports that Rooney is on the verge of joining Championship club Derby as a player/coach, but Saunders thinks he could still do a job in the Premier League for Liverpool.

The former Liverpool striker has suggested Jurgen Klopp should have tried to sign the Man United legend, who he believes should never have left England.

Saunders told Talk Sport on Tuesday: “I think the whole thing is a mystery [that he left England in the first place].

“When he left Everton he was top of assists, he and Sigurdsson were level, he was top goalscorer and had the most key passes, and they let him go.

“He was still only 31 at the time, he scored 250 goals for Manchester United and he’s England’s highest scorer.

“He’s still 33, he’s not 35. He could definitely still play in the Premier League and a club should have gone for him.

“Have you seen the goals he’s scored in America? He must be thinking to himself, ‘this is not a challenge for me’.

Wayne Rooney

“I was even thinking, it crossed my mind, if he’s fit and he’s hungry, you know who need that type of player? Liverpool.

“They could do with someone who can play in midfield and turn defence into attack, hit defence-splitting passes and score goals.”

It is highly doubtful that many Liverpool fans will share Saunders’ assessment, given the fact Rooney has played a starring role for two of the club’s fiercest rivals in United and Everton.

The veteran striker would surely never consider a move to Anfield either and it could be argued that the Reds already have players with similar qualities to the veteran striker.

Klopp’s front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah is one of the most fearsome in Europe, as underlined by the team’s Champions League success back in May.

All three men have an aggressive streak and an eye for goal, with little room for anyone to come in and take their place, as Saunders did at least, go on to acknowledge.

“Obviously Rooney probably wouldn’t get in Liverpool’s team,” he added, as per Talk Sport. “But he could definitely play for other Premier League teams, maybe mid-table; he could get in Crystal Palace’s team, he could get in Aston Villa’s team.

“The only reason he’s not playing for a top-six club is because his legs are not what they were, and maybe because of the candle inside. that burning desire, maybe that’s not as bright as it was.”

Former Wales international Dean Saunders does not believe that Phil Foden should be offered a new deal at Manchester City.

Including the Community Shield, the 18-year-old has featured nine times for the Premier League champions this term and is reportedly set to sign a new long-term contract with the club – as per the Manchester Evening News.

The Englishman is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in the country and has played for the Three Lions from U-16 level to U-21, but he has yet to earn a full international cap.

MEN reports that Foden will be offered a drastic wage increase as part of the extension, which doesn’t sit well with Talk Sport pundit Saunders, who insists that the midfielder doesn’t deserve to be rewarded after playing a bit-part role for the club.

“He’s 18 and because of the amount of money clubs pay for players they obviously have to cover their back and cover their assets,” Saunders told Talk Sport, according to MEN.

“You have to give him a long contract. To keep him at the club for six years you have to give him, I don’t know what, say £50k-a-week, when you give an 18-year-old £50k-a-week it’s danger signs.

“We don’t know how much this new contract will attract Phil Foden. I cringe at this. He’s done nothing, played two games. That doesn’t sit well with me.”

foden man city

City manager Pep Guardiola has often insisted that the teenage starlet has a bright future at the Etihad and offered his praise to Foden back in September, as he told the Telegraph: “Phil is special, his work ethic is excellent, he will have a lot of minutes this season.”

However, it appears that the Spanish boss wasn’t entirely serious in his comments, as he has only started the English youngster twice in all competitions and still seems to favour the likes of Ilkay Gunadogan, David Silva and Bernardo Silva in his stead.

Foden’s future at City looks secure but it remains to be seen whether or not he can develop into a world-class player at the club given the intense competition for places and huge weight of expectation that comes with being at the Etihad.

There are undoubtedly contrasting moods at Man Utd and Liverpool currently, and pundit Dean Saunders has questioned if any United players would get into the Liverpool XI.

After an impressive summer transfer window which saw them strengthen key areas of Jurgen Klopp’s squad, coupled with their run to the Champions League final, Liverpool certainly seem to be moving in the right direction.

In contrast, United finished 19 points adrift of Man City last season and ended up trophy-less, and coupled with their defeat to Brighton last weekend, the gloom is setting in at Old Trafford already along with question marks over the future of a fundamental figure in Paul Pogba, as per The Guardian.

With that in mind, Saunders has offered his opinion that Liverpool might be in a better position to compete with Man City for the title this season, which is fair, but his comments on whether or not any United players would get into the current Reds XI has sparked a backlash.

“Would any of their players get in Liverpool’s team?” he asked on talkSPORT. “I’m not Man United bashing, I’ve picked them because they are one of the top teams this year.

“United have spent £711million since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club, and they probably have not got one player who is a certainty to get into Liverpool’s team. De Gea over Alisson? Maybe. Pogba? Possibly, but with the disruption he is causing, I don’t know whether I would have him.”

David de Gea and Pogba would undoubtedly be the two most obvious choices, and although Liverpool do boast real quality in those two departments, it has to be questioned if Saunders is correct in suggesting that neither would make it into Liverpool’s line-up.

That’s the mood reflected in the comments from the Man Utd fans below, who clearly haven’t taken too kindly to the former Reds striker’s opinion.

Time will tell though if he is right on his prediction for how the Premier League campaign will play out, as Liverpool certainly look strong this year with plenty of question marks remaining over their old rivals.

However, while Alisson is undoubtedly a quality goalkeeper who is only improving with time, De Gea has produced consistently at the highest level for several years now and so that at least has to be one United player walking into the Liverpool team with opinion likely to spark debate on many others.
