As the January transfer window approaches, Leeds United could be in the market for another goalkeeper.

Karl Darlow has made just two appearances this season, both coming in the Carabao Cup per transfermarkt, whilst Illan Meslier has kept his place for every minute of Leeds’ Championship matches, per WhoScored.

The former, at 33 years of age, isn’t old for a custodian, but he does have limited time left at the very top.

For Meslier, given the standard of his performances last season, his ‘re-emergence’ should be seen as nothing more than the club putting him in the shop window ahead of January.

Should Meslier be moved on, it opens the doors for Swedish U21 international, Noel Tornqvist, to be parachuted into Elland Road.

Mjallby AIF sporting director Hasse Larsson had already noted the interest of the Championship side per Fotbollskanalen.

“That’s right. There were two more clubs, two Dutch clubs, who were also there to watch,” he noted.

A separate report from Fotbollskanalen, who interviewed the player, also noted his delight at Leeds’ potential interest in him.

“Of course, it’s great… An acknowledgment that you have done something good. It makes you happy and proud. It sounds cliché, but that’s kind of how it is,” he said.

Though the 21-year-old appears to be settled where he is, knowledge that a club as big as Leeds are watching him is bound to turn his head a little.

There’s still at least a couple of months to wait before the all whites make a decision, and that may depend on how well the player does between now and then.

Pundit says Leeds new signing has already disappointed after only one month at the club

Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson has expressed an interesting view about recent signing Karl Darlow in his brief time at the club.

The ‘keeper joined Leeds from Newcastle United this summer, but Robinson feels it’s already been a disappointing period for him due to the slightly surprising fact that Illan Meslier is still at Elland Road.

“I think potentially Darlow will be disappointed, but he’ll bide his time,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.

“He’s a very good experienced goalkeeper and played at the top level. Darlow’s very experienced in the Championship and being at a club like Leeds United isn’t a bad thing.

“It’s a huge football club and with the potential that Meslier’s got, whether it’s January or whether it’s the end of the season, I suspect that he will move on and then Karl will potentially come in as number one.

He’s something of an acquired taste as a co-commentator for Sky Sports, but Gary Neville always says it as he sees it and he wasn’t happy with one of Leeds United’s summer signings during their Carabao Cup defeat, ironically, against the club owned by Neville and his fellow Class of 92 players; Salford.

After emerging victorious over a brilliant Ipswich Town at the weekend, Daniel Farke could’ve been forgiven for thinking that a win over the League Two side would’ve been a foregone conclusion.

Their play on the night suggested complacency had got the better of them, as Salford scrapped and fought for every ball.

Indeed, it was the hosts that took the lead, and for long periods it looked as if an upset was on the cards in normal time.

Given that there’s no extra-time or replays in this competition anymore, with the scores level at full-time the match went straight to the dreaded penalty shoot-out.

It was then time for both goalkeepers to come to the fore, though it was Leeds’ Karl Darlow that got it in the neck from Neville during the live commentary (via YouTube).

“Oh he should’ve saved it, it has gone through his hands and he knows it,” Leeds United News report the former Man United star as saying.

“Oh, he should’ve have easily saved that. How has he missed it?”

Watching the footage back it’s difficult to see how Darlow doesn’t save it, and though the loss will be a disappointment, it might actually prove to be a blessing in disguise for the all whites given the long season ahead.

Leeds in intensive hunt to seal new striker deal after Ampadu and Darlow signings

Leeds are going about their transfer business and getting things done, whether that’s for incoming or outgoing players.

Daniel Farke appears to be heading for as settled a dressing room as possible by the start of the new Championship season, given that team equilibrium shouldn’t be understated.

He does, however, seem to want to bring in a new striker as soon as possible.

That’s according to Leeds club writer for Leeds Live, Beren Cross, who stated exactly that in a Q&A session with all whites supporters.

Although Karl Darlow and Ethan Ampadu have arrived, Max Wober, Joel Robles, Adam Forshaw, Marc Roca, Robin Koch, Brenden Aaronson, Rodrigo, Rasmus Kristensen, Alfie McCalmont, Diego Llorente and Tyler Roberts have all left the club.

That’s some manoeuvring from the new manager, but does hint at the seriousness with which he is taking the job.

There’s been no messing about from the German since he took the role, and there’s only one thing that appears to be on his mind and that’s immediate promotion back to the Premier League.

If he’s able to land a player that can guaranteed him 15-20 goals, alongside whatever Patrick Bamford can bring to the party, the Elland Road outfit are going to go mighty close to seeing their dreams realised at the very least.

Leeds make approach to sign 26-year-old PL ace alongside Darlow

Things are beginning to hot up in the transfer market generally, and for Leeds United as they get set to begin their 2023/24 Championship campaign.

There’s only nine days until they open their account with a fixture against Cardiff City, and Elland Road is sure to be packed to the rafters with the fans wanting to see the players back after the summer break, and to welcome the new man in charge, Daniel Farke.

The German will be acutely aware of the pressure he’ll be under from the beginning of the campaign, and to that end he will thrive or fail based on some of the transfer decisions he makes.

Newcastle reserve keeper, Karl Darlow, is set to be announced as a new Leeds player imminently, and the 32-year-old could well be joined by Everton midfielder, Mason Holgate.

Along with Sheffield United and Southampton, Football Insider sources have noted that Leeds have made an approach for the player.

It’s reported that he still has two years left of his contract with the Toffees, but it’s believed that Everton manager, Sean Dyche, is open to the player leaving on a season-long loan.

With three clubs to choose from, Holgate will need to pick carefully, and although the all whites have dropped down a division, they’re still a huge club.

When all’s said and done, it could be that which persuades the player to sign on the dotted line at Elland Road.

Atalanta have reached an agreement with Almería for El Bilal Touré. €28m fee with €3m in add- ons, 15% sell-on clause also included in the contract. The player will undergo his medical on Friday.

Al Ettifaq

Al Ettifaq have completed the signing of Jordan Henderson from Liverpool for £12m plus add-ons.

Al Hilal

Marco Verratti has reached an agreement with Al Hilal on a three-year deal. The player wants to move but the transfer depends on PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi. He has no intention of accepting the €30m proposal but that will be improved soon by Al Hilal.

Al Nassr

Al Nassr are set to offer around €37m to Bayern Munich for Sadio Mane and are confident of getting the deal done. Talks are in an advanced stage as Mane’s agent is negotiating the terms of the contract with Al Nassr.

Arsenal

Thomas Partey has a good chance of staying with Arsenal ahead of the new season. Saudi clubs approached the Gunners days ago, whilst Juventus called in June, but no club close to €40/45m package requested by Arsenal. A huge bid needs to arrive for Partey to leave as Mikel Arteta is happy to keep him.

Barcelona

Nico González is ready to join Porto from Barcelona with just documents left to be signed. Barca will receive €8m for the player with a 40% sell-on clause in the contract and a buy-back clause.
Chadi Riad has joined Real Betis from Barcelona with Barca receiving a €2.5m fee in June 2024. There is a 50% sell-on clause in the contract and also a buy-back option.
Ferran Torres has said about his Barcelona future: “I’m going to stay at Barça, no doubts. I will stay, I have a contract — no plans to leave at all.”

Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich’s board are set to meet Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to discuss Harry Kane deal on Friday. Bayern are prepared to improve their bid of €80m plus add-ons.
Inter Milan and Bayern Munich are getting closer to an agreement for goalkeeper Yann Sommer as talks are at an advanced stage.

Inter Milan

Inter Milan are getting closer to reaching an agreement with Bayern Munich for goalkeeper Yann Sommer as talks are at an advanced stage.

Juventus

Juventus are the favourites to sign Facundo González from Valencia as an agreement in principle is now on the verge of being reached.

Leicester City

Stephy Mavididi is in England to complete his transfer to Leicester City from Montpellier. The deal between both clubs is €7.5m plus a sell-on clause.

Liverpool

Liverpool have confirmed the transfer of Jordan Henderson to Al Ettifaq for £12m plus add-ons.
Liverpool are waiting for Al Ittihad to send all the official documents for the Fabinho transfer so they can check it before giving it the final green light.
Liverpool continue to work on signing Romeo Lavia from Southampton with both clubs in contact over the transfer on Thursday. The new bid is expected to be around £42.5m plus £2.5m in add-ons but Southampton still want €50m to let the player leave.

Manchester City

Manchester United are still leading the race for Atalanta’s Rasmus Højlund with a higher €60m package on the table. Another signing in at Leeds as club reach deal in principle with experienced Premier League man

Things are heating up in the transfer market at Elland Road, with Daniel Farke set to bring in another new signing to Leeds after a deal in principle was agreed for an experienced Premier League star.

As the new Championship season appears over the horizon, the German should now have some idea of what he has to work with in 2023/24, and where he still needs to improve in terms of strength in depth.

Leeds fell away badly in the 2022/23 campaign and Farke will be keen to ensure a repeat doesn’t happen to the Elland Road outfit on their return to the English second tier.

From back to front, the all whites need to be on it from the first whistle of the new season because the Championship isn’t a league for those who give less than 100 percent in every game. Simply put, you get found out very quickly indeed.

Perhaps that’s why Farke has looked to do a deal for Newcastle United reserve keeper, Karl Darlow, a deal that has been agreed in principle according to Football Insider sources.

It puts Illan Meslier’s position in the Leeds goal at risk, though it did appear that the youngster lost confidence after the way in which last season panned out.

As long as the 23-year-old stays with the club, if Farke does decide on Darlow as his No.1, whose to say that Meslier can’t give him a real run for his money over the course of the campaign and give his manager a great headache to have in the process.

Sky Sports confirms Premier League man set for Leeds United medical

Leeds United might well have something to celebrate in the not too distance future after one Sky Sports reporter appeared to confirm that a Premier League player could soon have a medical with the club.

There are less than two weeks to go now until the Championship season begins, so if Daniel Farke can get in any last-minute signings of such a level, that has to be a good thing for the Yorkshire giants.

It’s imperative that the club hit the ground running, and that means decent results against the likes of Cardiff, Birmingham and West Brom.

Start off the season well and that should breed the confidence Farke’s charges will need to help them build up a head of steam.

With the future of goalkeeper, Illan Meslier, still unclear, it appears that the club aren’t taking any chances and are looking to acquire Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow.

At 32 years of age, the custodian has plenty of experience and would almost certainly be a calming presence for the side.

If an agreement can be reached so that he does return from Newcastle’s pre-season tour, this could be the move that Darlow has waited some years for.

It would give him the chance to be a No.1 in his own right, and get a decent number of games under his belt. It’s a signing that could be the ace up Farke’s sleeve.

Newcastle man set to leave US tour in order to complete exit

Newcastle’s pre-season plans are already underway with the squad having travelled to the United States in order to play against Aston Villa, Chelsea and Brighton.

It will give Eddie Howe a chance to see how new signing, Sandro Tonali, beds in with his team-mates, and if the signing of Harvey Barnes can be confirmed quickly, he too could join his new Magpies colleagues.

With a Champions League campaign ahead alongside Premier League and cup commitments, it’s likely to be a tough season for the north east giants who are perhaps still one or two players short of producing a team that could go on an win the English top-flight title.

It shouldn’t be forgotten that all the while players are joining the club, there needs to be exits to balance the books but also balance out the squad.

For example, according to Newcastle World, the Magpies took five goalkeepers with them to the States.

It won’t be a surprise to understand that Howe would let at least one move on, and Newcastle World note that 32-year-old Karl Darlow is on the verge of a switch to Bournemouth.

The keeper is likely to be given permission to leave the tour and fly back to England to complete his transfer to the Cherries.

It would bring to an end his nine year association with the club – loan spells at Nottingham Forest and Hull City notwithstanding – to an end, but would allow him the opportunity to become a No.1 at Bournemouth rather than reserve at St. James’ Park.

Proposed Newcastle transfer deal for 32-year-old has collapsed

It’s a busy time at St. James’ Park with just over three weeks to go until the start of the 2023/24 Premier League season, and it appears that Eddie Howe still has some significant business to get done.

The expectation levels in Newcastle after last season will have gone through the roof, and yet, because of the constraints of Financial Fair Play, only Sandro Tonali has come into the club this summer.

Other deals appear to be in the pipeline but after the past two windows, it’s fair to say that this summer has been something of a disappointment.

Whilst an evolution of players rather than a revolution is preferable, a healthy turnover should be expected.

If Howe, with the backing of the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), don’t get things right, then it will seem like the club have taken two steps forward only to take one back.

They’ve even had the opportunity to offload one of their stars, however, they’ve chosen to turn down any potential deals which would’ve saved them on the player’s wages at the very least.

According to the Northern ECHO, the Magpies have rebuffed both Hull City and Middlesbrough in their attempts to sign 32-year-old goalkeeper, Karl Darlow.

It’s believed that an insistence on an important fee is what’s scuppered both deals and has left the custodian in limbo.

Given that Nick Pope is on the verge of a return and the club already have plenty of cover in reserve, Darlow’s future has long seemed away from St. James’ Park.

However, he could well still be on the club’s books for the forthcoming season if they can’t reach an agreement for his departure.
