Leeds defender Sam Byram has said he “regrets” leaving Leeds in 2016, stating he would’ve stayed if he knew they would eventually gain promotion.

Byram told The Athletic, that in hindsight, he would never have left Leeds. He said his decision was based on “the facts” as you can’t predict the future, and had he have known Leeds would be promoted eventually (in 2020), he probably would’ve stayed.

In his interview he spoke on the fact he missed getting promoted with Leeds (in 2020), but this feels like “a second chance to achieve that”.

Byram has made 16 appearances for the Whites this campaign, scoring one goal, providing one assist, and keeping four clean sheets in his 1,101 minutes played.

Leeds currently sit 3rd in the Championship with 31 points, winning nine, drawing four and losing three of their opening 16 fixtures.

They are eight points off of the automatic promotion spots, with both 2nd placed Ipswich and 1st placed Leicester on 39 points.

Leeds United defender Sam Byram reportedly refused to leave the pitch during Saturday afternoon’s Championship game against Plymouth Argyle.

That’s according to The Athletic’s Phil Hay, who claimed the 30-year-old defender held lengthy talks with Rob Price shortly after going down injured yesterday.

Despite clearly needing treatment and struggling on the Elland Road pitch, Byram was so reluctant to leave the field of play and his side exposed that he did all he could to stay on.

“Byram down and needing treatment,” Hay posted on X.

“Byram very reluctant to go off, Rob Price speaking to him. Firpo ready.”

He was eventually forced off but fair play to his commitment to the cause.

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke was reportedly a driving force behind the club sealing the free transfer of Sam Byram during the summer.

Byram was available as a free agent and The Athletic report that Farke directly asked the Leeds board to snap him up.

Farke worked with Byram during their time together at Norwich City and it now looks like they’re linking up well together again at Elland Road this term.

Byram has managed to keep fit and looks to be having the desired impact in this Leeds squad as they push for promotion back to the Premier League after the disappointment of their relegation back in May.

As the end of the transfer window approaches, Leeds United could still be one of the more active clubs in the marketplace.

After having lost so many players already and Willy Gnonto seemingly refusing to play for the club again unless he gets a move away, Daniel Farke needs things to settle down quickly.

The last thing the German needs is more upheaval than is necessary, particularly if it impacts his preferred starting XI after the season has already begun.

Sam Byram might well have something to say about that, however.

The left-back came on for Leo Hjelde in Leeds’ opening couple of games of the campaign, and started the last match against Birmingham City.

Fifty-eight appearances over the last four seasons per transfermarkt hint at Byram’s injury record, but being brought in ahead of Hjelde, who is interesting Salernitana according to Calicomercato, could see the 19-year-old being eased out of the club before transfer deadline day.

There could be push back from Farke who needs strength in depth, and Junior Firpo, the other left-back at the club, is injured at present, but the manager has to take into account that he doesn’t want a disruptive or unhappy player in his dressing room.

With just over a couple of weeks to go until the transfer window closes, a decision needs to be made soon for the benefit of all parties.

If Daniel Farke wants to re-sign one of his former players and a man that’s also an ex-Leeds star, the all whites will have to move quickly to register him in time for the first fixture of the Championship season.

Friday is the deadline for that to happen, though it isn’t clear yet if the German is going to take a chance on the 29-year-old who has, apparently, impressed in pre-season.

There’s a clear need for Leeds to hit the ground running in 2023/24.

The last few months of their Premier League campaign last season were abject for the most part, and an injection of confidence is just what’s required to get the Elland Road faithful back onside and bring a match-winning atmosphere back to the famous ground.

The Yorkshire Evening Post report that Sam Byram has been training and playing with the club during pre-season and has done well.

However, the outlet note that because the player is a free transfer, the club can afford to leave any decision until nearer the end of the transfer window, allowing them a longer assessment on Byram’s suitability.

It would be a fairytale of sorts if it were to come off, given that Byram spent his youth career at Leeds and also the first four years of his professional career at the club before signing for West Ham in 2016.

Farke had him at Norwich and will know what Byram is all about, the only question marks appear to relate to form and fitness.

Conor McGilligan has expressed his concern about a potential Leeds transfer should he sign for the club permanently ahead of the new campaign in the Championship.

After being released by Norwich City at the end of last season, defender Sam Byram is now a free agent. However, the full-back has been training with Leeds during the pre-season and even featured briefly during the Whites’ friendly with Monaco on Saturday.

Such an appearance suggests that Byram may join up with Daniel Farke’s side permanently, potentially reuniting with the coach he worked with at Norwich City for a period of time.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, McGilligan said about the potential signing of Byram: “Let’s talk about Sam Byram. So, came on yesterday [against Monaco], was okay. He’s a player who fits a certain type of profile. He’s not a full-back, for me. He’s a wing-back. He’s always been a wing-back.

“Can play left, can play right. As a rotation option, a complete rotation option by the way, someone who’s on the bench, I don’t mind it. He’s not reliable, he’s not dependable, he’s always injured and his career’s gone, in my opinion, nowhere really since he left Leeds with the hype that he had – which I think, fair play, was generated by a lot of Leeds fans.

“He’s bang average, bang, bang average, but maybe that’s where we’re at at the minute when it comes to rotation. We’re not going to be getting a player of high skill and high technical ability if we’re in the Championship.”

Leeds United have been linked with a move for Sam Byram.

Sky Sports pundit David Putton believes that the 29-year-old might be hoping for a return to Elland Road.

Byram has played for Leeds in the past and he left them for West Ham United seven years ago. The opportunity to join them once again could be a tempting proposition.

He has worked with the newly appointed leads manager Daniel Farke at Norwich City and it remains to be seen whether Farke decides to bring him back to the club.

“We saw another ‘new’ face in Saturday’s friendly against Monaco in the return of Sam Byram who has been training with Leeds after his Norwich City release.

“He has had injuries and miles on the clock but the player that we know that Sam Byram can be would be a worthy addition to what Leeds can do.

“If Sam is looking to kickstart his career then a place that he knows all about and a club that would hopefully cater and care for his needs could potentially be the best place for him.”

The 29-year-old full-back could be a useful squad player for Leeds and he will certainly help shore up their defensive unit.

Leeds will be hoping to secure promotion back to the Premier League immediately and they could certainly use experienced campaigners like Byram next season.

Furthermore, he is well-versed with Farke’s playing style and he should be able to settle in quickly and make an immediate impact at his former club.

The fact that he is available on a free transfer makes the deal a no-brainer.

Sam Byram could reportedly get the chance to make a comeback for Leeds United as he’s invited for a trial with his former club.

The 29-year-old is currently unattached following spells at West Ham, Nottingham Forest and Norwich City since he left Leeds back in 2016.

According to Football Insider, Leeds are now ready to give him another chance to show what he can do with a trial at Elland Road.

Leeds got relegated from the Premier League last season so could do with rebuilding their squad this summer as a number of big names have left and could still leave.

Byram is experienced in the Championship so could be worth taking a look at on trial in the coming weeks.

Who knew Norwich City were going to be the powerhouses of this summer’s transfer window?

Well, football is full of surprises and this Sky Sports News reporter in the video below claims the Canaries have just splashed the cash in some style.

MORE: Manchester United could help block crucial piece of Arsenal transfer business

We’re a bit unsure, however, if £750million for Sam Byram is really likely to end up looking like value for money.

Yeah don’t worry, it’s actually £750,000, as reported correctly here by BBC Sport.

At least, that’s what we assume, unless transfer fees have rapidly inflated by a massive amount yet again.

Unhappy Hammer Darren Chapman rates and slates West Ham players following Wednesday’s 4-0 loss to Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s Man City arrived at the London Stadium full of confidence after a 5-0 FA Cup victory there earlier in the month.

With West Ham’s Dimitri Payet saga over and with two wins on the bounce I thought it was going to be a different game. How wrong I was.

Man City made West Ham look like the under-19s. Following goals before half time from Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and MOTM Gabriel Jesus, the stadium was all but empty. A Yaya Toure pen wrapped things up in the second half.

A really poor night for Slaven Bilic’s men. Here are my player ratings:

Darren Randolph – 3

No chance with goals, Sunday league defending in front of him.

Sam Byram – 2

After two impressive games, I thought the right-back spot was sorted, but Byram was nutmegged by Sane for one of the goals and was basically a ghost out on the pitch.

West Ham United 0-4 Manchester City

Winston Reid – 4

One of the very few players who seems bothered for the Hammers so far this season. Not his best night, though, as he couldn’t handle the pace of the City attackers.

Jose Fonte – 3

Thrown in by Slaven Bilic for a tough debut against very good opponents. Looked slow and clumsy, giving away a silly foul for Toure pen.

Aaron Cresswell – 2

Looks a shadow of the flying wing-back from last season. Terrible again. Positioning was awful. Needs to be dropped.

Pedro Obiang – 3

Tried hard like he always does, with lots of running, but against the City midfield he was chasing shadows all night long. Early booking didn’t help.

Mark Noble (c) – 2

A massive crowd favourite, Mr West Ham looks like he’s had his day. Plays like a crab – side to side, with slow sloppy passing. Another who must be dropped, surely.

Sofiane Feghouli – 3

Hardly noticed him on the pitch, ran around like a headless chicken and barely crossed the half way line.

Manuel Lanzini – 4

A lot of pressure on this young man now Payet has left. He made a few neat touches, but gave the ball away far to often. Not his best game. Booked.

Michail Antonio – 5

Seemed the only player who was going to do anything for the Hammers. One run from inside his own half at the City defence was the highlight, but it came to nothing.

Andy Carroll – 3

Alone up top on his own. Looked frustrated and when West Ham did try the long ball he couldn’t seem to win a header. Booked.

Edimilson Fernandes ( Sub on 64 mins) – 4

Showed energy when he entered the field, but was mainly a spectator watching Man City’s showboating performance.

Robert Snodgrass (Sub on 64 mins) – 4

Hard debut for him. Coming on 3-0 down against Man City is not ideal. Shows promise though and will improve this team. Lovely through-ball for Antonio but goal ruled out for offside.

Ashley Fletcher ( Sub on 79 mins) – 4

The young man came on for the final 10 mins and hardly touched the ball, but in fairness to him the game was already over.
