There’s a long, long way to go yet in the Championship season, but if Leeds United are to ultimately get promoted back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, one 26-year-old ace is likely to return to the club.

Daniel Farke is already masterminding an assault on the English second-tier’s top three, with the all whites sat just outside that at the moment.

If the majority of his players are able to stay free of injury for the most part of the season and Leeds can continue building up a head of steam, Farke has the nous and knowledge to be able to navigate the business end of the season with ease.

Indeed, the German’s experience at the sharp end of Championship football is likely to hold his team in very good stead as picking up points becomes more and more important towards the end of the season.

Assuming that he’s able to take the all whites back to the promised land, it appears that Max Wober, currently on loan at Bundesliga outfit, Borussia Monchengladbach, will be required to report back to the club.

According to Rheinische Post (h/t Sky Sports Germany), Wober will only be able to stay with Monchengladbach permanently if Leeds are still in the Championship in 2024/25.

In that eventuality, they will need funds in and so would, reluctantly, cash in on Wober’s services.

Max Wober has admitted to not wanting to think about returning to Elland Road.

Despite signing for the Whites from RB Salzburg just nine months ago, the 25-year-old Austrian defender was shipped out on loan to Borussia Monchengladbach at the end of last season.

And following his parent club’s relegation back to the Championship, it remains unknown if the Wien-born centre-back will ever play for the side again.

However, speaking recently about his decision to sign for the Yorkshire giants at the start of the year, as well as what the future could have in store for him, Wober said: “For me, it was a really great move. I’ve settled in really well, it’s a family club, a real traditional club with incredible fans.

“I’m in Gladbach for the year now, I’m fully focused on it and I’m going to throw everything into it. I don’t really want to think about what it will look like in the summer yet.”

£11m player sends emotional goodbye message to Leeds fans

Leeds United star Max Wober has taken to social media to announce that says he is leaving the Yorkshire side this summer after only signing for the club in January.

The defender will join Borussia Monchengladbach on loan for the season as the 25-year-old wants to continue paying at the highest level following Leeds’ relegation to the Championship last season.

Wober joins many other stars that have departed the Championship outfit this summer but the Austrian only joined Leeds six months ago from Red Bull Salzburg as part of an £11m deal.

Taking to Instagram, Wober wrote to Leeds fans: “I’m telling you with a heavy heart that I’m leaving Leeds United for the coming season on loan.

“I’m forever grateful for the support you gave me from the minute I set foot on Elland Road. It really means a lot to me.

“I totally understand the disappointment with some of you. But for me, it is a necessary step to show myself at the highest level and to be able to secure a spot in the national team of Austria for the Euros in 2024. I can only wish the club all the best during the time that I’m away. I’ll be supporting you no matter what, wherever I go.”

Leeds United defender Max Wober is set to join Borussia Monchengladbach on loan until the end of next season.

However, according to transfer journalist Graham Smyth, the Austrian is unlikely to return to Elland Road.

Speaking recently about what the future could have in store for Wober, Smyth stated that is ‘almost impossible to see a way back’ for the 25-year-old defender.

“There is no doubt in my mind that there is a clause and it will be a loan, but also with this one there may be a permanent option in there,” Smyth said on the Elland Road Podcast.

With pre-season training having already started for the majority of the Leeds United squad, Daniel Farke will be getting to grips with exactly what characters he has to work with at the club.

In just a few weeks time, the Championship season will have begun and the work that has been put in from this point will be crucial in getting the Elland Road outfit off to a good start.

Farke’s brief is relatively simple in that he needs to get the club back up into the Premier League as quickly as practicable.

In order to do so he ideally needs to retain some of the club’s best playing staff, even if their true potential perhaps wasn’t shown during the 2022/23 campaign.

One player that has confirmed he wishes to stay at the club and help them in their promotion fight, according to Leeds Live, is Max Wober.

Farke needs leaders in his team. Players that are going to puff out their chests and stand tall and proud even when things seem to be going against them.

Wober did exactly that for the all whites last season, although it was to no avail in the end after a depressing final day relegation.

If the majority of players show the same commitment to Farke during these opening weeks of his tenure, he’ll not have too much to worry about. The issues will come if there happens to be an exodus for any number of reasons.

Leeds defender happy to be out of the spotlight and focusing on other things

Things have been a bit of a mess at Leeds of late, and though 49ers Enterprises have recently taken over the club, it’s bound to take time for the Elland Road outfit to get back to where they were before their disastrous 2022/23 campaign.

The season is likely to have taken its toll on all concerned and, whilst relegation won’t have been the ending that anyone connected with Leeds will have wanted, the fact that the season is over is likely to have come as something of a relief.

For one player in particular, he’s very glad indeed to be out of the spotlight.

According to Kicker, Max Wober, who is currently away on international duty with Austria, is spending his time concentrating on other things.

“Everything feels more free,” he was quoted as saying.

“It’s good for me that I can concentrate on other things again. We just didn’t manage to win the important games. Everything was tense in a way.”

The player’s honesty might not go down well with supporters of the club.

Many appear to forget that football is just a job for lots of players, and, as with any form of employment, there are good days and bad days.

When there’s more of the latter than the former, then going into work can become a real grind and, if you’re in a team that isn’t winning football matches, the pressure becomes a daily occurrence.

At present, Leeds remain without a manager and sporting director, but perhaps by the time Wober returns for pre-season, things might be on a more even keel and he, along with his team-mates, can start to enjoy their football once more.

According to recent reports, there is a ‘good chance’ Max Wober will remain at Leeds United despite the Whites being relegated to the Championship.

The Austrian joined from RB Salzburg in January and consequently, with no relegation clause in his contract, the 25-year-old is expected to stay and help the club win instant promotion back to the Premier League.
