At present, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side look in healthier shape than Erik ten Hag’s Man United outfit, however, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe expected to be taking over the sporting side of the business imminently, that gap could soon be narrowed.

One of the main areas where the Red Devils need a change is in their recruitment policy for playing staff.

Though the likes of Casemiro and Raphael Varane are serial Champions League winners, they are also the two top earners at the club despite being nearer the end of their careers than the beginning.

Capology note that the Brazilian earns a whopping £350,000 per week, with Frenchman, Varane, not too far behind on £340,000 per week.

If the club are able to rid themselves of that extensive salary burden, it will allow them to compete with the Gunners for £60m-rated Wolves ace, Pedro Neto.

According to TeamTalk, both Premier League clubs as well as their Saudi Pro League counterparts are interested in the player, however, the outlet also note that Wolves won’t let him leave for less than £60m.

Whilst that is a considerable outlay for any club, given that the player is only 23 years of age and playing as well as he has at any point during his career to date, it could prove to be a bargain in the longer-term, particularly as transfer fees continue to rise.

Wolves could reportedly lose forward Goncalo Guedes to Villareal in the January window.

The Portugal winger did not make the impact many Wolves fans were hoping after he signed from Valencia for £27.5 million last year.

Unable to break into the starting eleven, Guedes was loaned out to Benfica for the second half of last season and is now currently on a season-long loan with the Portuguese side.

With Pedro Neto currently sidelined through injury, Gary O’Neil could’ve used Guedes as a replacement, but the 26-year-old could leave the loan on a permanent deal in January.

According to reports from Estadio Deportivo , he is a target of his former manager and new Villarreal boss, Marcelino Garcia.

Garcia managed Guedes for one year at Valencia and will reportedly offer him a way out if he wants to return to Spain.

After suffering a devastating knee injury at Benfica, he has only played a handful of minutes for the Portugal side but may welcome a return to Spain where he performed at his best.

Reports from the Daily Mail indicate that Wolves are actively seeking goalkeeper replacements due to increasing interest from various Saudi Arabian clubs aiming to secure the departure of Jose Sa from the club.

Despite the 30-year-old goalkeeper recently committing to an extended stay at Molineux by signing a fresh four-year contract in September, which also includes a one-year extension option, Saudi Pro League sides are actively pursuing his services as part of their ongoing recruitment efforts targeting players from the Premier League.

If Sa were to make the move, he would be joining a group of former Wolves players who have chosen to leave England for opportunities in the Middle East. Notably, former club captain Ruben Neves stands out as one of the prominent figures to depart the English top-flight, completing a £47 million transfer to Al Hilal.

A move to the oil-rich nation would likely result in a substantial pay increase for Sa, and Wolves are reportedly looking to recoup around £40 million for the Portuguese international, per The Sun.

Sa’s potential departure could disrupt the positive momentum achieved under head coach Gary O’Neil, who has consistently relied on Sa as the goalkeeper in every Premier League game this season. In those games he has recorded one clean sheet.

Manchester City are reportedly interested in bringing Ruben Neves back to the Premier League.

That’s according to a recent report from Football Insider, who claims Pep Guardiola is a ‘huge fan’ of the Portuguese midfielder.

Despite only joining Al-Hilal from Wolves for a reported £47 million (Sky Sports) in the summer, Neves, 26, is a candidate to leave the Saudi Pro League ahead of time.

Despite also being wanted by Newcastle United as Eddie Howe looks to replace the suspended Sandro Tonali, the former Wolves man is unlikely to move to St. James’ Park due to new Premier League rules which are set to prevent the Magpies from using their ownership links to secure a deal.

And that could pave the way for Guardiola’s side to make an approach as the Cityzens prepare for Kalvin Phillips’ exit — another player heavily linked with Newcastle United.

During his time in the Premier League, Neves, who has three years left on his contract at Al-Hilal, registered 21 goals and nine assists in 177 games.

Liverpool have reportedly shown some interest in the potential transfer of Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, though a deal is not expected to happen this January.

That’s according to French outlet Le 10 Sport, who are not yet clear on how strong Liverpool’s interest in Ait-Nouri is, with no clear indication yet on whether or not they’ve made contact over the 22-year-old.

Ait-Nouri has impressed during his time at Wolves and looks like he could be a decent long-term replacement for Andrew Robertson at Liverpool, though one imagines this won’t necessarily be seen as an urgent priority for the Reds that soon.

Ait-Nouri looks good enough to move to a bigger club, though, so it seems worth keeping an eye on the Algeria international’s situation in the weeks and months ahead.

Rayan Ait-Nouri in action for Wolves

For now, it seems unlikely that Wolves are going to let the player go easily, as per Le 10 Sport, so it might have to wait until next summer anyway, and even then it remains to be seen how much he might cost.

Liverpool had a lot of joy when they signed Diogo Jota from Wolves a few years ago, so it could be that they’ll hope to repeat that here.

Despite trailing for over 90 minutes, Wolverhampton Wanderers have managed to beat Tottenham Hotspur.

Welcoming Ange Postecoglou’s Lilywhites to Molineux for Saturday afternoon’s early Premier League kick-off, Gary O’Neil would have known his side would need to be at their best.

Licking their wounds following a 4-1 defeat against Chelsea on Monday night and struggling with two key injuries to Mickey van de Ven and James Maddison, Spurs came into today’s game in desperate need of a win too.

And fans would have been forgiven for expecting to take all three points after Brennan Johnson fired the away team into the lead after just three minutes.

However, the London giants failed to hold onto their lead after Pablo Sarabia scored an emphatic volley equaliser just inside injury time.

And Spurs’ worst fears were then confirmed when midfielder Mario Lemina popped up with a 97th-minute winner.

Check out the moment the former Bournemouth man completed an incredible comeback below.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have equalised with just a few minutes left to play against Tottenham Hotspur during Saturday afternoon’s early Premier League kick-off at Molineux.

Taking an early lead thanks to a close-range finish from Brennan Johnson, Spurs would have been hopeful they could hold on to take all three points.

However, struggling to remain in charge of the game, Spurs’ recent injury crisis, which sees both Mickey van de Ven and James Maddison ruled out until the New Year, quickly became apparent.

With the momentum shifting into the home team’s favour, Gary O’Neil’s side got exactly what they deserved right at the death.

Pablo Sarabia executed a brilliant volley which left opposition goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario with no chance.

Brennan Johnson couldn’t have picked a better time to score his first goal for Tottenham.

Just two minutes were on the clock at Molineux when a brilliant Spurs move tore apart the hosts defence.

Given that Ange Postecoglou was without four of the players that he started with against Chelsea last week, it made the start all the more impressive.

The celebrations that followed the goal, on the pitch and in the dugout, showed just how together this team remain and that bodes well for the Australian whilst he’s unable to pick his first choice XI.

The Tottenham team for the Saturday lunchtime kick-off against Wolverhampton Wanderers was always going to be a much changed XI for Ange Postecoglou.

Premier League table toppers until their loss last weekend against Chelsea, the Australian has, nevertheless, picked an attacking XI once more, showing that he won’t change his playing principles even if the football Gods are determined to do their best to challenge that.

Out go the injured James Maddison and Micky van de Ven as well as the suspended pairing of Destiny Udogie and Cristian Romero, and in come Eric Dier, Ben Davies, Emerson Royal and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The visitors to Molineux will go back to the top of the table with a victory, and will stay there until at least Sunday afternoon when Man City head to Stamford Bridge.

If Pep Guardiola’s side fail to secure all three points against Chelsea, Spurs will remain at the top until the next match day.

Wolves will surely have something to say about the situation, however.

Aside from the loss last time out against Sheffield United, they’ve drawn with Newcastle and Aston Villa and beaten Man City, so they’ll be no pushovers.

Were they to emerge victorious, Wolves could move up a couple of places and see Spurs slide down two if other results go against them.

If feeling you were wronged by an incorrect VAR decision wasn’t bad enough, one Premier League sporting director has now been banned for his actions during the match against Newcastle United.

Football managers, players and executives appear to be under so much pressure these days, that it only takes one small issue to really light the blue touch paper.

Of course, losing the plot howsoever that may be is never a good look or a good idea, and will almost always end up with a punishment of some description.

That’s exactly what’s happened in the case of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ sporting director, Matt Hobbs.

Apparently, he was so incensed by the award of a penalty for Newcastle in the recent 2-2 draw, that he had some choice words to say to the officials, and that’s landed him a one match stadium ban.

He has also been fined £4,000 for the unsavoury incident which took place at the Premier League game on October 28.

When clubs ask their players to keep their cool on the football pitch in the heat of battle, then executive members of the club need to set the example in the first instance.

Matt Hobbs hasn’t just let himself down, but also his club.
