At present, Leicester City are continuing to ride high at the top of the Championship, and despite losing two games on the trot, they are still the team to beat.

Enso Maresca’s side have been flying, and much of that has to do with their rock-solid defence.

Their 10 goals conceded in 16 games is by far the best in the division, so it’s a fair bet that Wout Faes and Jannik Vestergaard – as well as their colleagues – are feeling rightly proud of themselves.

If they’re able to continue with the excellence they’ve displayed thus far in 2023/24, there’s a strong likelihood of promotion.

Given just how well the club have been playing, it’s a wonder that Vestergaard’s contract situation is being allowed to slide.

According to Capology, his contract is up at the end of June next year, however, there doesn’t appear to have been any movement from the club regarding a renewal.

“I don’t think there were very many people who believed four months ago that I would be in the situation I am in now, so I enjoy it,” the player was quoted as saying by Tipsbladet.

“At some point, something has to happen (with his contract), but it doesn’t matter to me.”

Aside from a suspension for racking up five yellow cards, Vestergaard has been an ever-present for the club this season, and at just 31 years of age, the towering Dane would still have an awful lot to offer the Foxes from next season and beyond, whether they’re in the Championship or Premier League.

Leicester City defender Jannik Vestergaard was linked with a move away from the club during the summer transfer window.

The experienced central defender had fallen down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium under previous manager Brendan Rodgers. However, he decided to stay at the club and he has now managed to fight his way back into the starting lineup under Enzo Maresca.

The Denmark international has been a key player for Leicester City this season, starting in 15 of their 16 league games. Leicester are currently on top of the Championship table and Vestergaard has been instrumental in their impressive start of the season. He will hope to help the Foxes return to the Premier League at the end of the season.

His impressive performances have earned him a recall to the Denmark squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Slovenia and Northern Ireland as well.

The player has now revealed that he turned down a big-money move to Saudi Arabia so that he can fight for his place at the English club, and the fans will certainly be delighted with his decision.

In an interview with Danish outlet Tipsbladet. He added: “All the decisions I have made in my career have been based on an idea of what was best for me in terms of sports.

“The initial period in Leicester didn’t go as I had hoped, but I believe my subsequent club choices have.

“It has always been with football in mind; I have never chosen based on finances, and I won’t in the future either. So, I will never take the money and run.”

The offer is said to have been worth €6 million-per season but Vestergaard wasted no time in rejecting the offer, suggesting sporting achievements mean more to him.

30-year-old Leicester player will leave the club after tomorrow regardless of what happens

This summer could see a host of Leicester City players leave the club as the Foxes could be in the Championship next season but Jannik Vestergaard is expected to bring an end to his time regardless of whether they get relegated or not.

Leicester need to beat West Ham on Sunday and hope that Everton do to win in order to survive as many prepare to play for the Foxes one last time.

One man who will not feature is Vestergaard as the defender is injured for the weekend’s clash, therefore, he will not play for the Foxes again.

According to the Daily Mail, the centre-back is set to leave with one year remaining on his current deal.

The Dane was bought by Brendan Rodgers in the summer of 2021 after a serious injury to Wesley Fofana but quickly fell from favour despite the £15m transfer fee.

Vestergaard’s last first-team appearance for the Foxes was in the FA Cup win at Gillingham on January 7, one of only three he has made this term.

If there’s one manager with the weight of the world on his shoulders, it would have to be Dean Smith as he looks to negotiate Leicester City’s last few games of the 2022/23 Premier League season, and hope that he’s able to turn around their form to such an extent that they’re able to stay in the English top-flight.

Smith has been parachuted in after Brendan Rodgers and the Foxes hierarchy decided that a split by mutual consent was the best course of action for a club who have been on a horrendous run of late.

According to WhoScored, they’ve lost eight of the last nine in all competitions, with seven defeats and one draw coming in the Premier League.

With Man City up next and Liverpool and Newcastle coming in two of their final three games of the campaign, things aren’t going to get any easier for Smith and his backroom team, so he deserves enormous credit for taking on the challenge.

One player who’ll likely be delighted by such a turn of events is Jannik Vestergaard.

Ekstra Bladet report that it’s ‘good news’ for the Danish International who has barely played this season, and a ‘fresh start’ for him after he was banished to train on his own because of criticism of Rodgers, ironically during an interview with Ekstra Bladet.

With survival the only thing that Smith should be worrying about at this point, he could do worse than install the towering defender back in the heart of the back line.

Leicester City defender Jannik Vestergaard has reportedly been banned from Leicester City training following his comments about Brendan Rodgers.

Vestergaard has yet to make a league appearance for the Foxes this season and the wait for one may go on that extra bit longer after his exclusion from first-team training.

The 30-year old Dane has been excluded following his comments to Danish outlet Ekstrabladet about Rodgers’ team selection.

“I really felt wanted by Brendan Rodgers,” said Vestergaard.

“While I was at Southampton, he really convinced me that I should switch to Leicester. Brendan Rodgers and the club knew exactly which player they were buying with both my strengths and weaknesses, and it’s hard to understand that from one moment to the next I’m suddenly unusable.

“It feels strange, I must admit.”

Vestergaard has made just three appearances this season

Danish football expert Allan Kuhn has suggested that Leicester City defender Jannik Vestergaard should change clubs in the January window.

Vestergaard shone at Southampton before joining the Foxes, but it’s fair to say he’s struggled to really kick on from there, and is now out of favour in Brendan Rodgers’ first-team plans.

“He must leave that club as soon as possible if he wants to return to the national team again. I think it is completely fair Hjulmand has not selected a player who has not played at all in the Premier League this season,” Kuhn told Viaplay, relayed by Tipsbladet.
