Leeds United had a massive win on Friday night as the Yorkshire club defeated Championship leaders Leicester City 1-0 away at the King Power Stadium. 

The only goal of the game came courtesy of Georginio Rutter after 58 minutes and the three points solidified Leeds’ position in the Championship play-off positions.

Fans of the Whites knew how big the win was for their club and they celebrated as such after the goal.

Graham Smyth has revealed how Georgino Rutter snubbed a potential return to the Bundesliga in favour of helping Leeds United win promotion back to the Premier League.

Speaking on the ‘Inside Elland Road’ podcast recently, Smyth explained how Rutter, 21, who has been in excellent form so far this season, rejected the chance to return to Germany, despite the ‘very good money’ offers coming in for him in the summer.

“You have Rutter, who could not really have been blamed for saying, ‘Actually my four months at Leeds were quite enough thanks you, I’m out of here.’ Yet there was nothing at all. He had options as well,” he said.

Since the start of the season, Rutter, who has five years left on his deal, has directly contributed to eight goals in 27 games in all competitions.

Leeds United attacker Georginio Rutter has been in impressive form for the club in the championship this season.

The 21-year-old has two goals and five assists to his name in the championship and his overall footballing ability has been a major hit at Elland Road.

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has now joked that the attacker could be a target for Real Madrid if he continues to play at this level and he would cost around £150 million.

“There’s always space for improvement,” Farke said, as quoted by The Athletic.

“He’s a young player and if he would be perfect in all areas, we would have to accept that Real Madrid would buy him for £150million.

“Thank God it’s not the case and he can grow and develop. But his potential is outstanding. He can be some player, one day.”

Rutter is still a young player who needs to add more end product to his game. However, there is no doubt that he is a prodigious talent with a big future ahead of him.

It will be interesting to see if he can guide his side back into the Premier League at the end of the season.

Leeds United came back from 2 goals down to win the game 3-2. Norwich scored twice in the first half with goals from Shane Duffy and and Gabriel Sara giving the home team a comfortable two goal lead going into half-time.

But the away side came out for the second half a completely different team. A Shane Duffy own-goal in the 63rd minute kick-started their come-back before Summerville scored a quick brace late in the game to complete the stunning comeback.

Georginio Rutter has been one of Leeds United’s best players this season in the Championship but a journalist who covers the Yorkshire club believes he can do better in a key area of his game.

According to LeedsLive journalist William Jackson, Rutter needs to perform better in front of goal as it could be key to Leeds returning to the Premier League.

The 21-year-old only has two league goals to his name so far and the French star will want to improve on that once the international break is over.

Writing about Rutter, Jackson said: “Georginio Rutter has been one of Leeds’ most impressive players of the season so far, of that there is no doubt. His talent and creativity has been pivotal for Farke’s Whites and as it stands, no player has created more big chances than the Frenchman’s 10 this season.

“However, Rutter has underperformed in front of goal and that’s something he’ll be working to improve over the coming weeks. The forward does have two league goals to his name, but he has missed a number of golden opportunities and his xG of 3.66 shows he really should be finding the back of the net more often.”

Most fans will agree with this statement and if the forward does improve his numbers, the Yorkshire club will have a very valuable player on their hands.

Rutter had already shrugged off the challenge of Mileta Rajovic, and as Martins slid in in the hope of taking the ball, the man or both, the Leeds star executed a perfect double drag back.

Leeds United impressed on Saturday beating Watford 3-0 at Elland Road but manager Daniel Farke still found time to have a bit of a moan after the game.

Leeds fans would have been delighted with what they saw from Farke’s men as there was some exciting attacking football on display. One player who contributed to this was Georgino Rutter but despite the French footballer impressing against Watford, Farke found time to say he was unhappy with one aspect of his play.

According to Leeds journalist Phil Hay, Farke had words with the youngster after the game, despite him playing well. The German coach spoke to the player about making sure that when he plays, he doesn’t try to embarrass or disrespect opposition players. He has the freedom to show his magic but needs to keep it under control.

This magic could play a key role in helping Leeds back to the Premier League so Farke will have to be wary of what he says to Rutter going forward.

It’s fair to say that it’s been a difficult and challenging few months at the club. For the board, the manager and the players.

Relegation to the Championship and the sale of the club to new owners has significantly shifted the focus of the club for the immediate future, but the aim will certainly be to get the all whites back into the English top-flight, with all of its associated riches, as soon as possible.

In order to do that, the club needed to find a perfect balance between getting a certain amount of salaries off the books, whilst also retaining the players that would give them the best chance of being promoted. No easy task.

One of the standout players so far in the 2023/24 campaign has been Georginio Rutter, and yet if things were different, he’d have been a Borussia Dortmund player by now.

According to Ruhr24, the Bundesliga runners up were prepared to pay £25.2m for his services. That’s a not insignificant figure but as it was less than what the Elland Road outfit had paid just a few months before, it was rejected out of hand.

That’s looking more and more like being one of their best recent decisions and if the club can continue their recent good form, there’s no reason for Rutter to move elsewhere.

One player that excelled against the south Londoners at the weekend was Georginio Rutter, and Sky Sports pundit, Clinton Morrison, could only offer up praise for him.

“He struggled in the Premier League. But he looks like a handful in the Championship and he is getting his goals.

Certainly, his manager is going to need Rutter and his team-mates to be playing at the same level as they did against Millwall if they want to keep climbing the table and bringing the top clubs within reach.

Now that the summer transfer window is in the rear view mirror, things can settle down properly at Elland Road and Farke can get to work properly without any outside influences.

If Rutter can provide the same type of performance as he has so far, then the Yorkshire-based club won’t go far wrong from the remainder of the campaign.

“The criticism of that signing wasn’t over Rutter per se, it was over that given what he contributed in that second half of the season from the end of the transfer window onwards, it wasn’t right,” Phil Hay said on the The Square Ball podcast.

“I don’t think that’s the same as saying Rutter isn’t a good player or a talented player. There are bigger clubs in Europe who would’ve taken him and do fancy him.”

After a transfer window that saw incredible upheaval right throughout the summer, Farke and the new owners, 49ers Enterprises, can well do without starting the new year in the same way.

With any luck, by then the all whites will be on a decent run of form and results and even if any clubs come back in for him, he’ll not see the need to leave Elland Road during the season.

There’s plenty of football to play before then, and Rutter will need to do as much as his team-mates to ensure that the club start to climb the table.
