Despite a plethora of injuries at the club, Newcastle have no intention it would seem of extending any deal for one of their out of favour players.

Premier Injuries show that the Magpies currently have 14 players out of action, which is the worst in the English top-flight at present.

Many of those injuries will see players out until the new year at the earliest and that’s likely to mean Eddie Howe will need to scour the market for suitable, and perhaps short term, replacements.

One player he won’t be counting on is Ryan Fraser, who was sent out on loan after it was believed that he had fallen out with his manager.

Currently at Southampton, the 29-year-old has been ripping it up in the Championship and has been a major factor in why the Saints find themselves in fourth position at present.

Transfer expert, Dean Jones, doesn’t see a way back for him at St. James’ Park, telling Give Me Sport:

“I think if Southampton get the chance to sign Ryan Fraser then it’s something that they will be jumping at if he continues to be like this.

“Not just a player, but the character that he’s shown and the personality. Southampton were crying out for identity this season and they want to see a team that is playing a certain way but also has characters within it that match who they are and what they’ve been in the past.

“Ryan Fraser obviously had to make a big decision in terms of moving down to the Championship and he didn’t want to commit himself to being at that level, but I think he’s seeing signs that Southampton won’t be at that level very long and that they can get out of it.

“And I think, yeah, Southampton will definitely want to sign Ryan Fraser permanently. It’s just a case of proving to him that this is the place for him to be.”

Given how well Fraser has been playing down at St. Mary’s, it’s difficult to imagine that he would want to return to a place where he’s clearly not welcome in any event.

It’s not clear what any fee would look like should the two clubs wish to try and strike an agreement, but it certainly appears to be in everyone’s best interests to get a deal over the line.

Things have been going brilliantly for Eddie Howe and the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) since the latter took over at Newcastle and appointed the former.

Full houses at St. James’ Park are almost guaranteed these days, with the Magpies playing the type of football that Kevin Keegan’s swashbucklers did back in the 1990s.

The players have barely put a foot wrong recently, and they were a whisker away from capturing the club’s first major silverware since 1955 last season, beaten in the final of the Carabao Cup by Man United.

Qualification to the Champions League for the first time in two decades will have gone some way to making up for that, and everyone connected with the club will surely be looking forward to what else is to come this season.

That won’t include Ryan Fraser who had been frozen out by Howe for the last few months and who has now moved to Championship side, Southampton.

“It feels really good. The minute Russ (Martin) phoned me, it was something I really wanted to happen. I just can’t wait to get started now and help the team out in any way I can,” he was quoted as saying by Chronicle Live.

“The club doesn’t deserve to be down here. We need to get back up as soon as possible this season, and all the lads will be doing everything we can to get us there. I’m just so happy to be here.”

It’s a move that makes perfect sense for all parties.

Fraser wasn’t even handed a squad number by Howe for the 2023/24 season, indicating without a word being said what the club’s intentions were.

The move means that the player can get his career back on track, and with the added motivation of helping the Saints try and get back into the Premier League at the first attempt.

This time next week most teams across Europe will have executed their transfer deals and know who’s in and who’s out, including Newcastle.

Eddie Howe has ensured that the Magpies have had another good window, with no reckless spending and the hire of players to specifically fit into the particular system that the manager wants to use.

It would be easier for Howe to chuck money around like confetti but that’s been shown not to work elsewhere and, arguably, only causes more problems.

Newcastle fans should be delighted that they have a manager who knows exactly what he wants on the pitch and who he believes are the right players to bring the club the success everyone desires.

As important is the financial backing from the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), who have backed their man to the hilt.

Unfortunately for those who are surplus to requirements, the next week is likely to see them depart St. James’ Park, with Ryan Fraser having one foot out of the door already.

“There may be something with Ryan happen regarding Southampton. Apart from that, that’s all I know at the minute,” Howe was quoted as saying by the Shields Gazette.

That shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone given that Fraser has barely been involved with the first team since a falling out with the manager last year over his attitude.

A move away therefore makes sense for all parties.

Newcastle United have enjoyed another good transfer window this summer, securing the likes of Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall.

Eddie Howe’s nous in the transfer market and the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s (PIF) willingness to allow their manager to get on with things has ensured a successful and harmonious relationship to this point.

Each new member of the squad appears to have settled in perfectly, as have many of Howe’s previous new signings, which speaks of a manager, board and backroom staff totally in tune with each other.

Diligent and well thought out purchases will almost always prove to be good buys, though it does raise the prospect of a number of sales given that the Newcastle squad will now be looking a little top heavy.

As The Talk of the Toon suggest, there could be as many as five current first-team squad members on their way out of St. James’ Park before the 11pm deadline on September 1.

Ryan Fraser, Jeff Hendrick, Isaac Hayden, Javier Manquillo and Matt Targett are all mentioned as possible departures.

With the first three not training with the main group and out of Howe’s plans entirely according to the outlet, it makes sense for them to look for alternative employment.

For Manquillo and Targett, they’re no longer first choices and also may consider it more worthwhile to leave in order to get more minutes.

Not everyone at Newcastle United will be enjoying just how well the club have been doing over the past few months.

Eddie Howe really has hit a sweet spot at St. James’ Park with most of the signings he has made for the club coming good and providing impetus to drive up the Premier League and ensure Champions League qualification.

A slender defeat to champions, Man City, aside, Howe has to be pleased with how his team have begun this season as they go hunting for glory on a number of fronts.

One player that won’t have been part of any of the back-slapping or celebrations is Ryan Fraser.

As Football Scotland note, there’s no way back for the player at Newcastle, after he was sidelined back in October of 2022 by Howe, because of his attitude.

With 10 days left of the current transfer window, he really does need to leave. If for no other reason than to get his career back on track.

He might be in luck too, as reliable Italian journalist, Gianluca di Marzio, notes that he could be off to Empoli on loan.

A deal could even be struck as early as this week for the 29-year-old midfielder, which is surely likely to prove beneficial to all parties.

Should Fraser ultimately decide that Italian football isn’t for him, he runs the risk of seeing his professional career go down the pan as there’s no news on any other club even so much as enquiring about his services.

Ryan Fraser has been linked with a move away from Newcastle United this summer.

According to the club’s sporting director Dan Ashworth, a transfer could materialise late on in the window.

Fraser has struggled for regular game time at Newcastle and it makes sense for him to move on. Newcastle have clearly outgrown the player and they are hoping to bring in better-quality players during the summer transfer window.

Newcastle secured Champions League qualification and they need better players to do well across all competitions.

The Magpies will be hoping to challenge for major trophies this season and they will need to get rid of mediocre players before the summer transfer window closes.

Ashworth believes that getting rid of players like Fraser would clear a chunk off the wage bill.

He said (via The Chronicle): “What tends to happen is pre-season finishes. What clubs tend to do is hold a slightly higher number of players, for example, we had two XIs last weekend.

“So you need slightly higher numbers. Then players tend to be able released and drop out from there.

“Then you have the domino effect, once the season starts people then tend to accelerate in the last month of the window. Things move and move around.”

It would then allow Newcastle to invest in quality players and improve their squad in the upcoming windows.

Fraser is clearly good enough to be an important player for mid-table clubs and it will be interesting to see where the 29-year-old ends up eventually.

On the face of it, things have gone very well for Eddie Howe at Newcastle United, but behind the scenes there have been one or two potentially explosive issues that have needed to be dealt with.

That the team to date under the former Cherries boss have consistently got better and better, speaks of his tactical acumen and understanding of the game, though his man-management skills shouldn’t be overlooked either.

In order to be successful at the elite level, managers have to accept that they are going to put their players noses out of joint on occasion, but it isn’t personal.

The team has to come first and if there’s an attitude problem or some other issue, it needs to be dealt with.

The former is believed to be the case with Ryan Fraser, who Howe has known since his Bournemouth days but who he had a big falling out with some while ago and hasn’t been seen anywhere near the first team since.

According to footballscotland, Howe has recently delivered the most unbelievable snub to Fraser, and it definitely spells the end of his career on Tyneside.

The outlet suggests that Fraser hasn’t even been given a squad number for next season.

It isn’t clear how much the Magpies might be expecting for the 29-year-old but the relationship between player and club is clearly broken, so the quicker that decision can be made, the better for all concerned.

Newcastle United could look to get rid of their fringe players this summer and the midfield trio of Jeff Hendricks, Ryan Fraser and Isaac Hayden have been linked with the move away from the club.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has now confirmed that the three players do not have a future at the club and it would be ideal for the Magpies to cash in on them.

As quoted by Chronicle Live, Howe said, “with those players, in particular, it is very difficult for us as a football club because in an ideal world for their careers we’d want them to go…there’s all sorts of difficulties associated with it, contract length, the amount of money they are earning and it is finding a football club that they want to go to…I have no issue with any of them and I wish them well, but let’s see what happens.”

All three players have struggled for regular game time and the likes of Hayden and Hendricks were on loan at Championship clubs Norwich and Reading respectively.

They will need to move on in order to play regular first-team football next season and it will be interesting to see where they end up.

All three players have been useful options for Newcastle in the past but the club has clearly outgrown them and they need to bring in better players if they want to do well in the Champions League next season.

It makes sense for the Premier League side to let the trio leave so that they can free up their wage bill and invest in players who can make a definitive impact.

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has admitted that there is no way back for Ryan Fraser in the team.

Fraser was banished to the Under-21s last season and Howe emphasised the importance of having “committed” players on board at the club.

The 29-year-old was subsequently left out of the pre-season squad and was instructed to train separately from the main group, along with Jeff Hendrick and Isaac Hayden, both of whom are also facing similar difficulties with the club.

The main challenge for Newcastle in parting ways with these players lies in their high wages, which has become an issue for the club.

Howe expressed that, ideally, the club would want them to find new opportunities and continue their careers elsewhere. However, due to factors like contract length and the amount of money they are earning, finding suitable destinations has proven challenging.

Speaking to Chronicle Live, Howe said:

“I think with those players, in particular, it is very difficult for us as a football club because in an ideal world for their careers we’d want them to go and play football and have a good career at another football club.

“But there’s all sorts of difficulties associated with it, contract length, the amount of money they are earning and it is finding a football club that they want to go to as well.”

“They are all great lads. I have no issue with any of them and I wish them well, but let’s see what happens.”

Newcastle United reportedly look set to allow a large number of first-team players to leave this summer.

As many as eight senior players could be offloaded in this transfer window, according to journalist Jacob Whitehead.

Newcastle are closing in on the signing of AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali, and other big targets are sure to be on their radar, but it may require some player sales first.

Whitehead has named the players who could be on the way out of St James’ Park, with Ryan Fraser, Jamal Lewis, Isaac Hayden, Jeff Hendrick, Javier Manquillo, Loris Karius, Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow’s futures all in doubt.

None of those look likely to have much of a first-team chance next season, so it could work out for all parties if they leave for decent money.
