It appears that Leeds United may be focusing their energies on defensive matters in the transfer market, if a recent tweet by an informed journalist is correct.

The all whites will need a solid foundation to build from if they want to bounce straight back up to the Premier League under Daniel Farke.

Known for playing exciting and attractive football, the German will clearly understand that his team’s successes in 2023/24 will only be achieved if the back four are solid.

To that end, Leeds Live journalist, Beren Cross, has suggested that the club have identified Taylor Harwood-Bellis as a centre-back target.

Centre-back seems where Leeds are focusing energy next in the window. Phillips and Harwood-Bellis among names they like.

Harwood-Bellis, 21, won the Championship with Burnley last season, but is registered with Man City where he remains highly-rated.

Back in April, 90Min noted Newcastle’s interest in the player, along with West Ham, Fulham and Brentford. The outlet noted that Burnley themselves were also keen to sign the player permanently.

It’s believed that a potential £15m fee has seen the Clarets backtrack on their initial interest, but that sort of figure is unlikely to deter Leeds.

The player has a huge projection in the game, and at just 21 years of age, clearly has some way to go before he reaches his peak as a player.

West Ham United are reportedly lining up a transfer move for Manchester City defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

The 21-year-old centre-back has been out on loan a few times now and seems unlikely to quite have enough in him to break into this fiercely competitive City squad.

According to reports, this could lead West Ham to pounce for the youngster in a potential £15million deal this summer.

Harwood-Bellis impressed on loan at Burnley last season and we could now see him test himself in the Premier League if he ends up making the move to the London Stadium, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Manchester City’s Taylor Harwood-Bellis is being monitored by a number of Premier League clubs, as they decide on his future with the club.

Football Insider has claimed that one of the interested parties in Harwood-Bellis is David Moyes’ West Ham United.

The defender has spent the last season on loan with Burnley and the same report also states that they would like to sign him on a permanent deal as they prepare for their return to the Premier League next season.

In their Championship-winning campaign, the centre-back played 32 times for the Clarets. He scored once and provided two assists for Vincent Kompany’s side.

However, the Hammers aren’t the only competition that Burnely may have to deal with. The same outlet also reported recently that Newcastle United are putting together a plan to try and bring him to St James’ Park.

NUFC exploring potential summer move for Championship prospect; on loan from Man City

Newcastle United are exploring the possibility of signing Taylor Harwood-Bellis of Manchester City this summer, who’s just wrapped up a loan spell with Burnley in the Championship.

That’s according to Football Insider who has also claimed that West Ham United and Fulham are keeping tabs on Harwood-Bellis.

The centre-back joined the Clarets on a season-long loan last summer. The 21-year-old played 32 times in the Championship for Vincent Kompany’s side, scoring once and providing two assists.

With the possibility of Champions League football next season and some form of European competition already secured, perhaps Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is looking to bring the defender in as cover for next season as they’ll be playing more fixtures.

A new central defender would certainly be needed if Jamaal Lascelles were to leave the club in the next window. The club are said to be listening to offers according to a report back in February.

Wherever Newcastle United end up finishing at the end of the 2022/23 campaign, it doesn’t appear that Eddie Howe is resting on his laurels.

An unexpected loss at Aston Villa notwithstanding, the Magpies are still well in the fight to ensure that they are in the Champions League next season.

Howe will know that his team are probably short in a few areas if they want to sustain a realistic European tilt and have a decent Premier League campaign in 2023/24, and in an ideal world he will surely want to have two decent players in every position.

To that end, it’s believed that he might already be looking at a young 21-year-old player that could eventually replace Fabian Schar.

Trippier, Botman, Schar and Burn

“They are going to sign a centre-half to replace Fabian Schar. But I think they might go for a younger one,” transfer insider, Graeme Bailey, noted on the Talking Transfers podcast.

“We linked them having been confirmed they’re interested in (Taylor) Harwood-Bellis, the Burnley defender who’s on loan for Man City.”

It isn’t clear how much any potential transfer would cost, but it’s understandable why Howe might be sniffing around the Man City star who has been on loan at Burnley this season.

According to WhoScored, Harwood-Bellis has already played 28 games of the Clarets season so far, and his pass completion rate of 84.8 percent is hugely impressive given his age.

It also compares well to Schar’s own 76.9 percent success rate (per WhoScored) in the same amount of games for Newcastle.

Given that the youngster also has 10 years on Schar, and that Howe appears to enjoy working with young players, if Harwood-Bellis is recruited, the likelihood is he could be given his St. James’ Park bow sooner rather than later.

Newcastle United are said to be interested in signing Taylor Harwood-Bellis who has impressed in the Championship this season.

This is according to 90Min, who say that the Magpies are one of a number of top-flight clubs interested in Harwood-Bellis, who has been plying his trade with Championship high-flyers Burnley this season.

Harwood-Bellis has made 30 appearances in all competitions this season, completing 90 minutes in all but one of his 27 Championship games for the Clarets.

Harwood-Bellis has scored just one goal for Burnley – against Preston in September

It is understood that City want to undertake contract extension talks with the 21-year old at the end of the season, but with the likes of Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake all likely to be first-choice options under Pep Guardiola next year, Harwood-Bellis may want a move away that promises him more first team action.

According to the Times (subscription required), Manchester City ace Taylor Harwood-Bellis has been accused of boasting about his riches to Scunthorpe United player Kevin van Veen during yesterday’s Football League Trophy clash.

Manchester City’s Under-21s were beat 3-1 by the League Two outfit last night.

Van Veen told BBC Radio Humberside that the 17-year-old City ace “cashed me up” by taunting the Scunthorpe striker about his superior earnings during the clash.

The 28-year-old Scunthorpe striker also told BBC Humberside that he was ‘happy’ to ‘shut him up’ by scoring two goals and registering an assist for his side in the clash.

The Times add that Manchester City have since denied the claims regarding the defender, who is on the brink of being rewarded a new £10,000-a-week contract.

Here’s what Van Veen had to say on the incident with Harwood-Bellis:

“He cashed me up really saying ‘I’ve got more money than you’.”

“If you play at City it’s great, one of the biggest clubs in the world but I just told him if I can score twice against you, what do you think Harry Kane is going to do to you.”

“He did not really take that well, and basically cashed me up. I just looked at him and thought, ‘Why are you giving me the big one, you have not really done anything yet’.”

“If I was in his position I’d never been cocky or arrogant like they are, I’m not saying all of them were but the centre-back was. I’m happy I scored two and basically shut him up.”

Harwood-Bellis has made four first-team appearances for City this season, the ace scored his first goal for his boyhood club in their recent FA Cup win over Port Vale.

If these allegations towards the promising central defender are found to be true, there’s really no forgiving such a tasteless and disrespectful act.

Manchester City teen promoted to first-team as Pep Guardiola battles injury crisis

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has confirmed young centre-back Taylor Harwood-Bellis has been promoted to his first-team squad, following injuries to both Aymeric Laporte and John Stones, according to The Manchester Evening News.

The 17-year-old was part of the Sky Blues’ squad for the pre-season tour of Asia in the summer, featuring three times, including the full 90 minutes in a 4-1 win against West Ham in China.

Harwood-Bellis, who is described as a ‘dominating defender’, by Manchester City’s official website, has been training with the first-team ever since the start of the new campaign.

The Stockport-born defender, was a key player for the Under-18s, helping them to win the Premier League Cup, as well as netting multiple goals in City’s road to the FA Youth Cup final. He most recently netted against Liverpool Under-23s, before stepping up to first-team duties.

“From now on, he will train with us,” Guardiola told The Manchester Evening News. “Whether he will play or not, we’ll see.

“The guys from the academy spoke really well about him before pre-season.

“I saw in pre-season. He is aggressive, he wins duels, he pays attention.”

Harwood-Bellis’ promotion means Guardiola has another impressive centre-back to call upon. Spaniard Eric Garcia, 18, recently made his debut in the 8-0 victory over Watford at the Etihad on Saturday.

Laporte suffered a serious knee injury in the victory over Brighton last month and Stones is sidelined due to a thigh problem and is expected to be out until mid-October, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

Fernandinho partnered Nicolas Otamendi at the back in the victory over the Hornets, but it remains to be seen whether Guardiola will opt to change things around, as he targets a third Premier League title this campaign.
