Leicester City defender Harry Souttar has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months.

The 25-year-old Australian defender has struggled for regular gametime under Enzo Maresca, but he wishes to stay at the club and fight for his place.

He joined Leicester City from Stoke City back in January for a fee of around £15 million. The towering central defender was expected to establish himself as a key player for the Foxes but the transfer has clearly not gone according to plan.

It will be interesting to see if he can convince Maresca to give him opportunities.

According to Carlton Palmer, the defender is unlikely to leave Leicester in January because of his desire to stay and fight for his place. However, if Leicester secures promotion from the championship to the Premier League, the defender is likely to move on at the end of the season.

The 25-year-old is currently the fourth-choice central defender at the club and he needs to play more often at this stage of his career.

“Harry is under contract at Leicester until the summer of 2028, it appears he’s well down the pecking order at Leicester and given what Souttar has said recently I don’t expect him to push to leave in the January transfer window, even though he has been linked with Glasgow Rangers.

“But the summer could be a different matter – should Leicester get promotion and he’s played very little football in the Championship, it’s unlikely that he’s going to play any football in the Premier League, it will be then time for him to seek a move elsewhere.”

Leeds United are close to signing Stoke City defender Harry Souttar before the end of the January transfer window.

That is according to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, who stated on Sky Sports News that the Australian international is nearing a move to Elland Road but the deal is not done yet.

It has been an excellent window for the Whites so far, with Georginio Rutter arriving in a club-record deal and Max Wober being recruited to bolster Jesse Marsch’s defence.

Souttar will add to strengthening this area of the pitch for Leeds and fans of the Yorkshire club will be hoping the 24-year-old can match his performances from the World Cup.

The Australian international was one of the best centre-backs at the tournament in Qatar and that is likely the main factor in him getting this big move to Leeds.

Leicester City are in talks to sign Stoke City’s Harry Souttar, but if the Foxes want to sign the defender they may need to act quickly.

That’s according to agent Jon Smith, who has warned Brendan Rodgers that his side could face competition from Everton.

Souttar, 24, enjoyed an impressive World Cup campaign with Australia last year, and currently playing in the Championship, the commanding defender is a leading candidate to make the step up to the Premier League.

Although the Aussie is wanted by Leicester, managerless Everton are also believed to be long-time admirers of the 6’5″ centre-back, and following Frank Lampard’s recent sacking, the Toffees could enter the race, but the club’s willingness to enter a bidding war with the Foxes will depend on how likely they are to be sanctioned for failing to comply with Financial Fair Play.

“Now that Frank Lampard has been sacked from Everton, the Toffees, who have been interested in Stoke City’s Harry Souttar in the past, could come back into the picture again, but they will need to act quickly because Leicester City are in talks to sign him for about £10m,” Smith said in an exclusive interview.

“He’s a really interesting player and one to watch this window, but given Everton’s well-documented financial problems, their activity will depend on regulatory issues.”

Since joining Stoke City from Dundee United back in 2016, Souttar, who also has 14 senior international caps under his belt, has gone on to feature in 70 matches, in all competitions, directly contributing to five goals along the way.

In his fortnightly exclusive column for CaughtOffside, Jon Smith, one of football’s first-ever agents and a man who was an integral figure in the forming of the Premier League, discusses how contracts in football are set to change, which player Everton could look to sign following Frank Lampard’s sacking, a surprise candidate to succeed Gareth Southgate, and much more…

————————————————————————

Football facing contract changes…

Todd Boehly has been quite clever by amortizing the cost of players by offering them seven or eight-year deals. Most managers have a mitigation clause in their deals, that may or may not be the case for Graham Potter but when it comes to new signings, Boehly is doing it so he doesn’t breach Financial Fair Play rules.

However, I’m hearing that the authorities are going to clamp down on it and are looking to bring in a rule which means clubs cannot offer players contracts longer than five years. Chelsea will get away with it this season, but they’ll need to re-think their strategy for the future.

One player they are already speaking to is Lyon right-back Malo Gusto. I think he will be a really good signing if they can get it done. He’s young, very quick, and has the potential to be a leading full-back in the future.

Midfielder set for Arsenal reunion next month?

Another player that looks set to leave Ligue 1 is Matteo Guendouzi.

I know Unai Emery at Aston Villa really likes him and with both clubs negotiating his transfer, he’s another player I expect to move before the end of the window, and should that be the case, with the Villians’ set to play Guendouzi’s former club Arsenal next month, that potential transfer could add an additional spice to the game.

Mikel Arteta is the perfect example of why managers need time…

Arsenal need a central midfielder to add to their depth but Mikel Arteta has really got the squad playing for each other.

Arsenal are now a team full of fighters and it’s very reminiscent of the glory days under Arsene Wenger.

It just goes to show how patience and faith in a progressive young manager can pay off in the long run.

Steve Cooper to become next England manager?

I don’t mind admitting that not so long ago, I thought Nottingham Forest were nailed on to be relegated, but they’ve turned it around recently. I’m not sure they will go down now.

Everybody knows how many players they’ve bought in, but take nothing away from the manager Steve Cooper. He is doing a fine job and has the team playing some very attractive football at times.

He’s a major outsider at the moment, but if Forest keep improving, I wouldn’t be surprised if Cooper suddenly finds himself a candidate to succeed Gareth Southgate as the next England manager.

Everton could make late approach for Championship defender…

Now that Frank Lampard has been sacked from Everton, the Toffees, who have been interested in Stoke City’s Harry Souttar in the past, could come back into the picture again, but they will need to act quickly because Leicester City are in talks to sign him for about £10m.

He’s a really interesting player and one to watch this window, but given Everton’s well-documented financial problems, their activity will depend on regulatory issues.

Liverpool have lost their midfield engine…

Liverpool will certainly be in the market for at least one new central midfielder. Their problems are obvious for all to see.

Under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool have always had a midfield capable of driving the whole team forward but at the moment, perhaps due to age, their midfield is seriously lacking.

The hub of the team looks to be firing on two out of three cylinders. Klopp knows that in order to get the Reds back to their best, the club’s owners will need to bring at least one world-class midfielder, and obviously, Jude Bellingham tops their list.

Leicester City have made a surprise £10million bid for the transfer of Stoke City defender Harry Souttar.

The 24-year-old has shone in the Championship and for the Australian national team, so could be a fine addition to this struggling Leicester side.

Brendan Rodgers has endured a difficult few months, and he could do with improving this squad after a series of big-name sales down the years and a relative lack of investment.

It remains to be seen if £10m will be enough for Stoke to consider selling Souttar, but this looks like one to watch as we head towards the end of January.

West Ham and Crystal Palace would be ideal clubs for Australia international Harry Souttar.

That’s according to former goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, who believes the 6’6″ defender is ‘definitely’ heading to a Premier League club.

Souttar, 24, enjoyed an impressive World Cup in Qatar at the end of last year and is now on course to make a high-profile move from his current club Stoke City.

Speaking to Optus Sport about the possibility of seeing the gigantic defender play in England’s top flight, Schwarzer said: “Harry Souttar obviously has been enormous. He is enormous. And he was enormous.

“He’s definitely going to a Premier League club. There’s been some mention of West Ham. I could see him fitting in really, really well with David Moyes in that squad. That would be my guess at this moment.

“(Crystal Palace) would also suit Harry because he can play any type of system. And he is more than capable of playing the ball out the back.”

West Ham are reportedly interested in Stoke City centre back, Harry Souttar.

The towering Australian centre back has impressed at Stoke City and according to ExWHUemployee (a reliable West Ham insider) David Moyes is interested in signing the 23-year-old. After missing out on a centre back in the summer, this is clearly an area the Hammers are targeting to strengthen.

In his long career, Moyes has often favoured tall, powerful players, signing the likes of Sylvain Distin, Marouane Fellaini and Craig Dawson. Souttar certainly fits that bill, standing just shy of two metres tall.

Starting his career in Scotland with Dundee United, Stoke made a move for the youngster despite him only making two first team appearances. Since joining the Championship side, he’s played 54 games across but unfortunately suffered an ACL injury in November last year, ruling him out for the remainder of the season. It’s expected West Ham will be in for the player in the summer, once he fully recovers from his current injury.

Ahead of the January transfer window, according to recent reports, Dean Smith’s Aston Villa have highlighted Stoke City’s Harry Souttar.

That’s according to a recent report from Football Insider, who claims the young defender has emerged as a transfer target for Premier League side Aston Villa.

Souttar, 22, joined Stoke City in 2016 following a £200,000 move from Scottish side Dundee United.

Since arriving at the Bet365 Stadium, the Aberdeen-born centre-back, who also has Australian citizenship, has gone on to feature in 56 senior matches, in all competitions.

Despite the new 2021-22 season still being in its infancy, Souttar has been an early standout performer.

Having featured in all but one of the Potters’ opening 11 Championship matches, Souttar, who can play either side of a centre-back pairing, has been one of the league’s most consistent performers.

Following what has been an impressive spell, Football Insider claims the 22-year-old has now caught the attention of Smith’s Villians.

Although it is not yet known whether or not Stoke City’s hierarchy will sanction a winter move or not, it has been noted that the Championship side is expecting approaches in the coming months.
