England only managed a draw in their final game of EURO Qualifying, in a 1-1 draw with North Macedonia.

The attack for England was very flat on the day, struggling to create clear cut opportunities, and going behind in the first half, they managed to fight back and get a draw, but overall the performance wasn’t good enough from Gareth Southgate’s men.

Read on for our England player ratings, and who stood out for the Three Lions…

Jordan Pickford – 7 – Made two saves, including saving a penalty but the rebound was scored, not much else he could do.

Rico Lewis – 7 – Very unfortunate to give the penalty away, other than that thought he made a good account, making two tackles, making one key pass and completing 59/59 passes.

Harry Maguire – 6 – Completed five of his eleven long balls, and only had a pass completion of 84%, however he did win 5/6 aerial duels.

Marc Guehi – 6 – Made one tackle, won 2/3 ground duels and made two of his three long balls, but only won 1/5 aerial duels.

Kyle Walker – 7 – Recovered well when needed for England, making two interceptions, one tackle and one block, he also went forwards well, made one key pass, and completed both of his long balls attempted.

Declan Rice – 7.5 – Solid in the middle for England, made one key pass and kept it simple with a 96% pass accuracy. Also won 4/6 ground duels and made four tackles.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 6 – Wasn’t at his best, only made one key pass and that is what he is in there for. Failed all three of his long ball attempts and only completed one of his five crosses.

Phil Foden – 7.5 – Was very involved, and looked the most dangerous for England going forward. Drifting around picking up the ball, completed two key passes, created one big chance and completed two of his three dribble attempts.

Jack Grealish – 7 – Was nice and direct when he got the ball on the flank, made two key passes and completed seven of his eight dribbles. Marginally offside for his goal which was correctly ruled out.

Ollie Watkins – 5 – Barely got involved in the game, only played 58 minutes and only managed 10 touches.

Bukayo Saka – 6 – Did make two key passes, but could’ve done more on that right hand side. Nearly had an assist for Grealish’s disallowed goal, but did fail both of his other cross attempts, and only completed one successful dribble out of three.

Subs: Harry Kane 7, Cole Palmer N/A, Marcus Rashford N/A, Kalvin Phillips N/A.

North Macedonia have taken a 1-0 lead against England in the first half, despite Jordan Pickford saving the initial penalty attempt.

Enis Bardhi took the penalty for North Macedonia, which Pickford managed to save going the right way, however the rebound fell back to Barhi who smashed the rebound home.

England have already confirmed qualification as Group C winners, having 19 points before this game. However Southgate will not be happy with the performance, and will expect a reaction in the second half.

England have beaten Malta 2-0, on rather flat evening for the Three Lions. However an own goal and a Harry Kane goal earnt England a victory and three points.

Rice had one chalked off, which would have made it 3-0 England, but that would have been a rather flattering scoreline for the performance from the Three Lions.

Read on for our England player ratings, and who stood out for the Three Lions…

Jordan Pickford – 6 – Didn’t have to make a save, and only made the one punch, made 41/41 passes but was un tested so can’t be rated higher.

Fikayo Tomori – 6 – Taken off at half time, played in a slightly unfamiliar left back role, becoming a back three in possession. Made two tackles and completed four out five long balls.

Harry Maguire – 6.5 – Kept a clean sheet of course, and made two clearances and one block. Also completed 10/10 long balls, and won 7/7 aerial duels.

Marc Guehi – 6 – Not to much to do, made two interceptions and made 103/106 accurate passes, with 7/8 long balls.

Kieran Trippier – 6 – Managed two tackles, one clearance and one interception at right back, also making one key pass and completing 5/5 long balls.

Conor Gallagher – 5 – Subbed at half time to bring on the more attacking Bukayo Saka, worked hard and won some duels in midfield, however was a little sloppy in possession on a few occasions.

Jordan Henderson – 5 – Subbed after 61 minutes, played 2/2 long balls and won 2/4 ground duels. Didn’t offer enough in the middle of the park when playing out.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7 – Could have created more but did get forward in central midfield, getting four shots off (two on target) and making one key pass.

Marcus Rashford – 5 – Subbed after 61 minutes, struggled to get himself in the game, had one shot which was blocked and only completed 2/6 of his dribbles.

Harry Kane – 7.5 – Scored the goal to give England a 2-0 lead, and allow them breathing room. However wasn’t as involved as he could have been, only having 34 touches.

Phil Foden – 8 – Tried to make things happen whenever he got the ball, made three key passes, completed 4/4 dribbles and looked the most dangerous player on the pitch.

Subs: Bukayo Saka 7, Kyle Walker 6 , Cole Palmer 6 , Declan Rice 6

Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing a goalkeeper in the near future and they are keeping tabs on the Everton star Jordan Pickford.

A report from 90 Min claims that the 29-year-old England international has been tracked by the London club and it remains to be seen whether they come forward with an offer in the coming months.

Chelsea have recently signed Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic. However, they are keen on improving the goalkeeping department and they believe Pickford could be a useful acquisition.

The 29-year-old has proven his quality in the Premier League over the years, and he has established himself as an undisputed starter for club and country. Pickford has produced impressive performances for England in the European Champions and the recently concluded World Cup as well.

The opportunity to play for Chelsea will be an attractive proposition for the goalkeeper. He will want to take the next step in his career and join a big club capable of winning major trophies.

Pickford has been one of Everton’s more important players over the past few seasons

Although Chelsea have struggled over the past year, they have a formidable squad and the resources to challenge for major trophies in the coming seasons. On the other hand, Everton have been fighting relegation over the last couple of seasons.

A move to Stamford Bridge would be a major step up for Pickford and it remains to be seen whether Chelsea can agree on a deal with the Toffees.

Liverpool fans broke their long tradition of clapping the opposition goalkeeper in the Merseyside derby on Saturday afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp’s side dispatched their city rivals, Everton 2-0 on Saturday with Mohamed Salah scoring two goals late on.

Their task was made a lot easier when Ashley Young was sent off for two yellow cards in the first half after a late tackle on Luis Diaz.

As the teams came out for the second period, Liverpool fans broke tradition by not clapping for Jordan Pickford as he ran towards the Kop.

This is an age-old tradition in Anfield that dates back to the sixties and is a sign of respect for the opposition number one.

They reportedly refused to clap for him and began to boo because Pickford himself didn’t clap as he ran towards the goal.

Football statistician, Dave Ball spoke to This is Anfield about the tradition.

“I always remember the game after England had won the World Cup in 1966, Liverpool played Everton in the Charity Shield and then the first game here (at Anfield) was in the league against Leicester City.” he said.

“Gordon Banks was in the Leicester goal, and I think Shankly had sent him out early doors to take the cheers from the Kop and everything. But when he came out to face Liverpool, the Kop went absolutely ballistic. That was the first time I had ever seen the Kop react the way they did.

“Some people say it did happen in the ’50s and ’60s, but I’ve spoken to people and they don’t really remember, but I certainly remember it was the Gordon Banks one. He was a great person on Merseyside, he was loved by the Kopites.”

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was not happy with the referee’s decision to not send Ibrahima Konate off during the Merseyside derby.

The Liverpool defender could have been shown a second yellow for a foul on Beto which stopped a potential counter attack.

However, the referee and the VAR both decided against it leaving Everton extremely frustrated with the decision.

And Jordan Pickford, after the game, came out and slammed the officiating stating that it was ‘no shock’ that decisions did not go Everton’s way.

He said:

“It’s a tough day. It’s always going to be tough to come to Anfield as an Everton player.”

“We gave it our all, worked hard and decisions definitely didn’t go our way, no shock there.”

“I think the work-rate we’ve put in was second to none after going down to ten men. After about half an hour, we dug in and they created chances – like they were always going to. We put up a good fight. As a team, we’re not far off. Coming here is always a tough place, but we had a right good go and were always in the game – even with ten men. Going down to ten and the lads putting a shift in, you’re going to get tired.”

Liverpool scored not long after the Konate incident. Everton conceded a penalty after Keane handled the ball inside the penalty box. Mo Salah scored from the spot to give Liverpool the lead.

And Salah scored another in the dying minutes of the game. The goal came from a counter-attack led by Darwin Nunez who did brilliant to draw the defenders towards him before passing to the Egyptian who did what he does best.

England managed to beat Italy 3-1 in their EURO qualifying game, to secure their qualification to EURO 2024.

After Italy took the lead in the 15th minute, England battled back to win the game 3-1 with goals from Harry Kane (x2) and Marcus Rashford to secure their qualification to EURO 2024 with two games to spare.

Read on for our England player ratings, and who helped the Three Lions secure qualification…

Jordan Pickford – 7 – Pickford made three saves, including two from inside the box, and made 40 accurate passes. Not much he could do about the Italy goal, was a shot from very close range,

Kieran Trippier – 6.5 – Trippier played left back which he has done on many occasions for England despite being a natural right back. Made two clearances, one interception and two tackles, and made one key pass.

Harry Maguire – 7 – Was solid throughout, made two clearances, one block, one interception and two tackles, as well as making 69/74 accurate passes, and completing six out of ten long passes.

John Stones – 6.5 – Played 63 minutes, only having to make two defensive actions (one block and one interception). Was still getting on the ball a lot in build up with 61/64 accurate passes, and winning two out of his three ground duels.

Kyle Walker – 7 – Kept things quiet down the right flank, making two clearances, one block, and two interceptions. Walker also made three out of three long balls.

Declan Rice – 6.5 – Not as much to do as usual for Rice, only making one clearance and one tackle in the middle of the park. However he won both of his duels (2/2) and had a 93% pass accuracy, keeping it simple in the middle.

Kalvin Phillips – 6 – Had a few rash challenges, picking up a yellow and could have had another to make it red. Just looked a few seconds off the pace on the night. Only made one tackle and one interception.

Marcus Rashford – 7.5 – Scored a lovely goal to give England a 2-1 lead. Took four shots (two on target and two off target), completed two out of three dribble attempts, and won five out of his eight duels.

Jude Bellingham – 9 – Ran the game playing slightly further forward again for England in attacking midfield. Won the penalty to get England back in the game, and then broke free in midfield to release Rashford for the second goal. Made two key passes, had one shot on target and completed three out of his four dribble attempts.

Phil Foden – 7 – Least involved in the front four, but still made one key pass and had one shot on target playing out wide. Linked up well with Bellingham, and completed two out of his five dribble attempts.

Harry Kane – 8 – Scored the penalty to make it 1-1, and then scored the third England goal of the game to secure the victory with a lovely solo goal and wonderful finish. Scored two goals with his only two shots.

Subs: Marc Guehi 5, Jordan Henderson 5, Jack Grealish 4.

England didn’t get the start that they were expecting at Wembley against Italy, with the visitors opening the scoring inside the first quarter hour.

It was a comedy of errors for the Three Lions which manager Gareth Southgate surely won’t be happy about.

Declan Rice failed to cut out a simple cross-field pass and then his colleagues were far too flat-footed as Italy went for the jugular.

As the ball came across the box, Rice’s former West Ham team-mate, Gianluca Scamacca, was completely unmarked inside the six-yard box and couldn’t miss.

It shouldn’t really come as too much of a surprise that Gareth Southgate has gone with his tried and test players for England’s Euro2024 qualifier against Italy on Tuesday evening.

The Three Lions will be expected to win the fixture at Wembley which would guarantee their passage to the finals next summer.

One glaring omission is that of Chelsea’s Levi Colwill, though Southgate clearly feels the youngster needs more club experience before he can consider making him a starter for his country.

Harry Maguire therefore partners John Stones at the back and the Man United centre-back has it all to prove, to himself, to the supporters and to Erik ten Hag.

If the defender is able to produce a top-level defensive performance, it just sends a message in the Dutchman’s direction that he’s not finished just yet, he’s perhaps just lacking a little confidence.

Either side of the central defenders are Newcastle’s in-form Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker, with a midfield of Declan Rice, Kalvin Phillips and Jude Bellingham.

Harry Kane captains the side as always, and he’ll be flanked by the Manchester duo of Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden.

Jordan Pickford keeps his place in between the sticks against a side who’ve scored in all of their international fixtures in 2023.

Though Andre Onana will be given much more time to settle into the goalkeeping role at Man United, the fact that the Red Devils are already running the rule over a youngster that rivals Man City are also interested in says much.

Erik ten Hag clearly hung his hat on the 27-year-old custodian whom he managed at Ajax, in preference to David de Gea who is, remarkably, still without a club.

Onana’s start to life at Old Trafford hasn’t been the best though it’s a little unfair to consistently highlight his errors, and is reminiscent of the Massimo Taibi witch hunt.

Across town, Ederson continues to impress at the Etihad Stadium, though Pep Guardiola could well have one eye on the future too it seems.

According to inews (subscription required), both Manchester clubs are casting their eyes north and have been scouting Sunderland’s rising 16-year-old star, Matthew Young, a keeper that’s being compared to Jordan Pickford.

The youngster is on the verge of England U18 honours and could find himself at the centre of a battle royale between United and City should they follow up any initial interest.

In the meantime, ten Hag will surely be hoping that Onana finds the form he displayed at Ajax, whilst Guardiola can rest easy as the standard of Ederson’s performances remains high.
