The real business for Daniel Farke and Leeds United begins this weekend, as the all whites take on Cardiff on Sunday to kick-off their 2023/24 Championship season.

Elland Road should be bouncing as the punters come flooding back to see what the German has to offer in terms of having a team with a defined style and an attacking threat.

The squad and starting XI are likely to look quite a bit different to the last time supporters saw them, with moves in and out taking place across the summer.

It was always going to be that way simply because of the fact the club had dropped down a division.

One player that could be lining up for the club is former West Ham star, Grady Diangana.

When he left the east Londoners a number of players were up in arms, including club captain, Mark Noble, who was quoted by BBC Sport at the time as tweeting:

‘As captain of this football club I’m gutted, angry and sad that Grady has left, great kid with a great future.’

Since his move from the Hammers to West Brom, however, he hasn’t captured the kind of form that he showed in east London and, as a result, the Express and Star report that Leeds are eyeing up a cut-price move for the player.

They apparently face competition for his services from Burnley, Leicester City and unnamed Saudi Pro League clubs, though if Farke can sell the player his vision, there’s every chance he could be turning out for the Yorkshire-based outfit in the upcoming campaign.

In the 9th minute of this evening’s Premier League tie against Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion scored perhaps the worst own goal of the season to gift their opponents an early advantage.

Grady Diangana played the ball back to Romaine Sawyers, the midfielder quickly realised the pressure from Rodrigo in his defensive third as he sent a pass back towards his own goal.

Unfortunately, with Sawyers not having looked over his shoulder to check Sam Johnstone’s position, the ball rolled into the back of the net with the stopper well away and unable to stop it doing so.

Pictures from Prime Video Sport and DAZN.

Sam Allardyce will find it really difficult to keep this Albion side up, they just can’t seem to stop conceding – from all ways possible.

West Ham certainly haven’t had the best of transfer windows this summer, and one former professional has torn into the clubs fans about it.

In the earlier part of the window, highly-rated Grady Diangana was sold to West Bromwich Albion, apparently against the wishes of manager, David Moyes.

The sale also upset the club’s playing staff with captain, Mark Noble, taking to Twitter in the aftermath of the deal going through to voice his displeasure.

With Brentford’s Said Benrahma on the verge of signing for the east Londoners, Danny Mills has told West Ham fans to stop bleating and just get on with it.

“I think he’s (Benrahma) proven. I think he’s a very, very good player,” he said to Football Insider.

“West Ham fans should have no real issues with that. You’ve got rid of one, but they’ve got a better player in.

“Deal with it. Get over it. Move on. It’s as simple as that. That’s all it comes down to.”

The ire of West Ham’s loyal supporter base is somewhat understandable, however.

A move to the London Stadium was sold to them by the board as being a move which would herald a new beginning for the club, and one where they would, apparently, be consistently challenging for Europe.

In all but one of the seasons since the switch, the Hammers have been battling relegation, so a lack of investment in the team was always going to get their backs up, whatever Mills says.

With only a few hours left of the transfer window between English Premier League clubs and their counterparts in the Championship and Leagues One and Two, West Ham have been rocked by news that could see them fail to secure their top target.

It’s been a long, hard summer for David Moyes, after he was apparently forced to sell Grady Diangana to West Brom, and has only managed to bring in Vladimir Coufal on a permanent deal and Craig Dawson on a season-long loan from Watford.

A deal for Brentford’s exciting talent, Said Benrahma, had been agreed with his medical planned for Thursday of this week.

However, in an unexpected twist, noted by the Daily Mirror, the 25-year-old Algerian has failed the medical with the Hammers only finding out the news on Frida morning.

Despite this, it’s believed that the east Londoners are still keen on pushing the deal through by the 5pm deadline.

“Nothing has been done yet. Conversations are ongoing,” the Daily Mirror quote a Brentford source as saying.

Given how long the Hammers have been pursuing the player, and whom they’ve also allowed to leave on loan to make room in their squad for him, it will be a bitter blow to Moyes if Benrahma is unable to be secured.

It’s not been the best of transfer windows for West Ham and David Moyes.

Consistently turned down by their preferred transfer targets, including Burnley’s James Tarkowski and Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori, and having let go one of their brightest prospects in Grady Diangana, things weren’t looking good for the Hammers.

With the window for deals with foreign clubs having already closed, it left Moyes with only those players in the English Championship and Leagues One and Two to choose from.

Fortunately, they’ve managed to strengthen in one of the areas that they need it most – central defence.

According to BBC Sport, the east Londoners have signed Watford defender Craig Dawson on loan for the rest of the season, with an option to buy.

“I can’t wait to get started and share my experience. We’ve got a lot of experienced lads here anyway and to be joining this group of players is an exciting prospect, so I can’t wait,” Dawson is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

“It’s a talented group and I can add competition to that backline, so hopefully I can slot straight in with the lads and help them improve their game as well.”

With Dawson now secured, there are just a few days left for West Ham to be able to get a deal for Brentford’s Said Benrahma over the line.

It still doesn’t represent a great transfer window for the club even if he does arrive, but at least it would look a little more respectable.

Although it’s accepted that the coronavirus pandemic has hit Premier League clubs in the pocket, West Ham’s transfer window business has still been pathetic.

For a team that were supposedly going to be challenging for Europe once they moved from Upton Park to the London Stadium, the fact is that they’ve been involved in relegation scraps in almost every season since the switch.

Seemingly unable to secure targets because of that, David Moyes must be hugely disappointed with the east Londoners’ inability to bring in new players, and not being able to keep hold of their top talents, as was the case with Grady Diangana.

European deals are now out of the question after the window for dealing with foreign clubs closed last week, however, there’s still a few days left to be able to purchase players from either the Championship or leagues one and two.

To that end, Moyes is clearly looking to bring in Brentford’s exciting Said Benrahma, and 90Min report that a bid of £17m has been made by West Ham.

It’s expected that the west Londoners will hold out for closer to £25m, and the West Ham board really should be willing to pay the £8m difference during the course of the next few days if they’ve any pretensions about staying in the division.

Although the club already have wide mean in situ such as Andriy Yarmolenko, Benrahma offers something different and would be a sure fire hit if he can bring his Championship form to the Premier League.

West Brom’s new signing Grady Diangana has fired his side into the lead at Goodison Park after unleashing a stunning effort just 10-minutes into the first Premier League game of the weekend.

Diangana, 22, controversially joined West Brom from West Ham earlier this summer in a move which cost the Baggies £12.15m, as per TransferMarkt.

After a crushing defeat last weekend against Arsenal, West Brom face an equally difficult match today against Carlo Ancelotti’s impressive Everton.

Opting to set his side up in the same system for a second running manager Slaven Bilic’s gamble has so far appeared to pay off.

Star forward Diangana has opened the scoring early on with a rocket of an effort.

What a hit!

With no new signings this summer and having sold one of their most exciting academy talents in Grady Diangana, West Ham came into the 2020/21 Premier League season on a downer.

Their mood wasn’t helped when the Hammers lost their opener at home to Newcastle with an insipid display.

On the horizon is a horrific run of games too, particularly so given the form that the east Londoners are in.

Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham, Wolves and Leicester lie in wait between now and the end of October, and as The Sun report, a US consortium looking to take over the club will be watching on with interest.

A run of losses, which could even see West Ham adrift of many other teams within the next six weeks, would surely weaken the position of current owners, David Gold and David Sullivan, who have turned down two bids for the club of £350m and £400m according to The Guardian.

Quoting sources, The Sun note how serious the consortium are in their bid to takeover the club.

“These guys in America are serious  players. That is partly why they are staying coy for the moment.

“They get this is no ordinary buyout attempt. It’s not just a case of buying somebody else’s shares.

“They know the two men in charge have lent the club further money, which understandably they will want back if they sell up.

“It’s a complicated situation. West Ham don’t own their ground. A stadium is a major asset in a sale.

“The fact the owners have to repay the taxpayers on a sliding scale if they sell before 2023 has also been noted — but they are not seen as major obstacles. But getting a fair price is obviously important.

“Since the end of August there has been a cooling-off period. But it’s pretty certain they’ll be back with a third offer in the near future.”

West Ham fans will surely be hoping that their fortunes off the pitch have a more positive feel by the end of the year, even if it means that results on the pitch in the meantime have taken a downturn.

With the new Premier League season just a few days away, West Ham United still haven’t signed any new players.

There may be another three weeks left of the window, but parachuting someone in at that late stage could upset the dressing room equilibrium.

Just as Grady Diangana’s sale has in fact.

Hammers captain, Mark Noble, took to Twitter at the time his sale was announced to vent his frustrations:

However, his former team-mate, Carlton Cole, suggested that the board were right to sell the player because they had cover in his position and that he was the only player the club ‘had an offer for.’

According to Cole the club need money too, which doesn’t say an awful lot about the business sense of David Gold, David Sullivan and Karren Brady.

Laura Woods is making quite a name for herself on the talkSPORT Breakfast Show, and she didn’t hold back on Monday when talking about West Ham’s owners.

The east Londoners head into the new season having just sold one of their brightest prospects in Grady Diangana, and Woods believes it’s symptomatic of the culture of the club.

That being the breaking of the promises made to the fans who have to put up with, for example, the selling of the crown jewels in order to cover previous mistakes.

She cited the hiring of Manuel Pellegrini as another one, and the disastrous move to the London Stadium.

It’s hard to disagree.
