Federico Dimarco scored a goal worthy of the Puskas Award for Inter Milan on Sunday evening.

The Italian defender may have already bagged the Serie A goal of the season with his wonder strike against Frosinone

Spotting goalkeeper, Stefano Turati off of his line, Dimarco decided to have a go from just over 60 yards out.

Inter would go on to win the game 2-0 with Hakan Çalhanoğlu scoring from the spot in the 48th minute to take his side to the top of the table.

Serie A duo Juventus and Inter Milan are interested in bringing Liverpool’s Thiago Alcantara to Italy next season.

That is according to Fichajes, who reports that the Italian giants are planning a move for the 32-year-old, who is out of contract at Anfield at the end of the season.

The veteran midfielder is not part of Jurgen Klopp’s long-term plans at Liverpool having signed four new players for the middle of the park this summer.

The Reds are very unlikely to offer Thiago a new deal and that could pave the way for the Spaniard to move to Italy as a free agent.

Thiago has World-class ability and can bring a lot to any team. However, the midfielder is very injury prone and that takes some of the shine off of the player.

The Liverpool star is yet to play for the Reds this season due to his current injury and won’t return until the New Year.

This would be the main reason why the Merseyside club won’t offer him a new contract and that is a chance any interested club will be taking when signing the talented star.

At present, Inter Milan are riding high at the top of the Serie A table and therefore have no need whatsoever to consider any sales of their players unless the players themselves want to leave.

The neroazzurri have won nine of their 11 games domestically, scoring 27 – the most in the Italian top-flight – and conceding just six which is the joint best defensive record along with second-placed Juventus.

There’s certainly a question to be asked of anyone that might see themselves playing elsewhere from January or next summer, given that it would appear they could potentially achieve all of their playing aspirations if they stay put.

Whilst there’s no suggestion as yet that Denzel Dumfries wants to leave the San Siro nor do the club necessarily want to sell him, they have slapped a €50m sale price on his head according to Calciomercato, indicating that they would accept offers at that amount.

The outlet also note the interest of both Chelsea and Manchester United in the player, and whilst his potential sale price could be classed as prohibitive, it would be within the reach of both Premier League outfits.

It remains to be seen if either club or any other will decide to bid for the 27-year-old and, even if they do, whether Dumfries himself will be open to their overtures.

With just one defeat to their name in 2023/24, Liverpool have begun this season’s Premier League campaign in fine form.

After a significant wobble in 2022/23, it’s to Jurgen Klopp’s immense credit that he’s been able to get the Reds challenging again, albeit we’re still in the very early stages of the current campaign.

Just three points off Man City in top spot, both teams play a west London outfit this coming weekend – Liverpool host Brentford whilst City travel to Chelsea – before going head-to-head at the Etihad Stadium at the end of the month.

Should the status quo remain the same as it is presently, and Tottenham fail to beat Wolves and Aston Villa, Liverpool could draw level with Pep Guardiola’s side going into December.

The Liverpool-City rivalry has certainly been one of the best of recent times but there was no comparison between the two last season.

Perhaps the change in Liverpool’s midfield and a couple of other tweaks elsewhere is what’s changed the mentality again at Anfield, and it’s in midfield where there could be another sale.

Thiago Alcantara has never really hit the heights for the Reds, scoring just three times in 97 matches according to Fichajes.

The same outlet suggest that both Juventus and Inter Milan are carefully watching the player’s situation, and they could be willing to acquire a player whose Liverpool contract finishes on June 30 next year.

There is a good chance West Ham may lose Tomas Soucek next summer as Inter Milan are monitoring the midfielder ahead of a potential move.

That is according to a report from Italy via Sport Witness, who states that Inter are monitoring the West Ham star, who is out of contract at the London club at the end of the season.

West Ham have the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months but it is being said that the Serie A giants believe that they can strike an agreement with the 28-year-old either way. The Italian side scouted Soucek when the Czech Republic took on Albania during the last international break.

The midfielder has been a key part of David Moyes’ squad in recent years and his departure would mean a replacement is necessary.

Soucek is something of an icon at West Ham, registering 26 goals and nine assists across 169 appearances in all competitions for the London club.

Romelu Lukaku has long since been an Inter Milan player, but that hasn’t stopped the club’s sporting director, Piero Ausilio, from reigniting the war of words with the Belgian hit-man.

Currently on loan to Roma from Chelsea, the player can join the Giallorossi permanently in the summer if they part with in the region of £40m to secure his services.

It isn’t clear at this stage if such a move will be forthcoming, however, it’s abundantly clear that he’ll never be welcomed back to the San Siro with open arms.

Romelu Lukaku in action for Inter Milan

“I prefer not to talk about a player currently at another club, I have never done that in recent months,” Ausilio was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

“I say that I like to think about the present and the future, Lukaku is part of the past: with him, we won a Scudetto, lost two finals, and he brought us an important capital gain.

“What happened? I prefer not to talk about it. All I’m saying is that there has to be politeness and respect: things were obviously going on, but at a certain point these conditions came to an end.

“There are deals that don’t get done, but if there is respect it is never a problem. When, on the other hand, one hides or sends replies via other people, then one thinks about moving on.

“For me it is a close chapter since July 8, there are no regrets. The famous phone call to Lukaku? It was something decided, nothing special. I told Romelu what I thought, after I hadn’t been able to contact him for a while.”

At best, Ausilio’s recollections show a lack of respect from Lukaku and a deep lack of professionalism from him.

That arguably goes some way to explaining why the west Londoners want to wash their hands of him too.

It should be remembered that however good a player is, he is still just an employee of a football club. If his values and way of working aren’t aligned with his employers then they’ve every right to make the decision to put him on the market.

Where Lukaku has to be careful of course is if Roma decide that they’re unwilling to part with the asking price, which would then leave the Belgian in a footballing no man’s land with, perhaps, only the Saudi Pro League to turn towards.

Tottenham are interested in signing Inter Milan’s Hakan Calhanoglu to reinforce and complete their midfield.

Ange Postecoglou has revolutionised the North London side in such a short space of time as they currently sit top of the Premier League after 10 games played.

The summer signing of James Maddison from Leicester City seems to have been a masterstroke by the club as he has shown that he can perform at the highest level consistently, making an instant impact to help the club climb to the top of the table.

Alongside Yves Bissouma, the pair make a formidable partnership in the middle of the park but Postecoglou still wants to add another midfielder.

According to reports from InterLive, Calhanoglu is viewed as the perfect man to come in and complete the midfield.

At 29, Inter Milan will reportedly demand in the region of £43m from Spurs if they do enter the market from him in either the winter or summer transfer windows.

Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez has spoken out on his future amid recent transfer rumours linking him with Real Madrid.

The Argentina international is one of the finest attacking players in Europe on his day, and there’s long been speculation about him potentially moving to the Premier League or to another major Champions League club.

During the summer, Martinez was said to be on the radar of both Manchester United and Chelsea, according to Football Insider, though those clubs ended up making different signings up front, with Rasmus Hojlund moving to Old Trafford while Nicolas Jackson made the move to Stamford Bridge.

It seems Martinez isn’t that keen on leaving Inter anyway, if his quote below, as cited by Fabrizio Romano on X, is anything to go by…

Martinez could undoubtedly be a fine signing to help Real Madrid replace club legend Karim Benzema, though of course it would also still be exciting to see him in English football at some point.

Chelsea could probably still do with a striker as Jackson has been unconvincing so far, while Hojlund has also been a little below expectations for Man Utd.

As the January transfer window comes ever closer, Newcastle United will be one of the clubs most likely to enter the market, particularly given Sandro Tonali’s 10-month ban from the game.

Eddie Howe’s side currently sit in a respectable sixth place in the Premier League table, however, they remain a cavernous nine points behind leaders Tottenham.

A maiden Premier League title already looks to be beyond the Magpies this season, though not impossible of course, but in any event the club need to strengthen the squad to help give them the depth they need to mount a consistent challenge in the biggest competitions.

One player they’ve recently been linked with acquiring, by Fichajes and other outlets, is Inter Milan’s highly-rated ace, Federico Dimarco.

Federico Dimarco in action for Italy

The 25-year-old wing-back would give Newcastle some balance given his excellence down the left channel.

Kieran Trippier has been brilliant for the Magpies on the right, with his diligence and determination being a huge part of Newcastle’s recent success.

However, they’ve lacked something on the opposite side of the pitch which has to be a concern for Howe and his backroom team.

Unfortunately for the club, it looks like they’ll need to hunt elsewhere for someone to fill that particular role.

‘Despite a lot of links with top clubs, negotiations between Inter and Federico Dimarco over a new deal are now advancing,’ CaughtOffside columnist, Fabrizio Romano, wrote in his exclusive Daily Briefing.

‘Talks continue and are moving to the final stages, and I think this could be completed by the end of the year.’

The spectre of a European Super League raised its ugly head again earlier in the week with news that a judgment would be made on it during December.

No one other than those making the judgment can know which way it’s going to land, but it’s safe to say that former pro and now pundit, Stan Collymore, isn’t a fan.

‘No, I don’t think a European Super League is the way forward. UEFA particularly have bent over backwards, with concessions, more games, more money. If you have a European Super League what’s it going to be predicated on?’ he wrote in his exclusive CaughtOffside column.

‘It’s gonna be very, very difficult for clubs such as Villa and Forest, who have won European Cups in the past, Celtic too, to get into if it’s invite only. That will have a massive impact.

‘I could certainly see an example of clubs already owned by oil states or oligarchs or hedge funds, that are now spending €400m on players and are mopping up their domestic league, will just give a cursory nod to the league that they come from whilst going on and playing in the Super League.

‘Any attempt to start to be able to get momentum, however, should see supporters put their clubs under the greatest pressure to say their clubs must not, under any circumstances, enter a European Super League.

‘I think that particularly with the English clubs, if they were to say no again, we will never join the ESL because the whole idea would be dead in the water. There would be no European Super League that would be worthy of the name.’

Supporters came out in force back in 2021 when it was announced that there had been an agreement for the Super League to come into force.

The protests were almost immediate and forced the clubs that had made the agreement to drop out one by one and even go so far to apologise to their supporters.

Only Barcelona and Real Madrid are left from the original 12 clubs and their fate in the project rests in the judges hands.

Even if the ESL isn’t a going concern post-judgement, Collymore believes we’ll see a derivative of it because of the money that is now in the game.

‘Saudi Arabia, big American banks… the groundwork has already been laid in some respects. The pre-season International Champions Cup in America is their attempt at giving English and European clubs an insight into what potentially is possible,’ he added.

‘Come to America and play in front of 100,000 at the University of Michigan and we can make you richer than than you ever imagined. I could see a situation whereby the Saudis and the Americans, maybe even countries like India or China may want a little foothold.

‘Several entities will be needed to make it possible but just imagine if Manchester United are offered a billion pounds a season to play in any competition. The odds are that their owners are going to go absolutely yes because they then wouldn’t have to worry about whatever money comes into their club.

‘It’s a very persuasive argument.’

Essentially any organisation that has the money could effectively dangle clubs on a string and send them to all corners of the earth in the name of profit.

That’s a worst-case solution for many, who prefer the old traditions of the game which seem all but left in the past now.
