Leicester City remain the team to beat in the Championship this season, Enzo Maresca’s side winning 13 of their 16 English second-tier fixtures already.

Despite seemingly streaking ahead in the division, they’ve been pegged back a little with two defeats in their last two matches, meaning that they’re currently level on 39 points with second placed Ipswich Town, and just eight points ahead of Leeds United in third.

The top two face each other twice in the space of 25 days either side of the new year, and the results in those two games in particular could well go some way to defining how the second half of the league season might pan out.

One of the staff members that Maresca isn’t able to call upon is Jack Lyons, who Brendan Rodgers has confirmed is back with him at Celtic.

“I have been impressed with all the coaches,” Rodgers was quoted as saying by The Scotsman.

“John Kennedy is brilliant, and I saw that in my first spell. He is an outstanding coach and has an incredible thirst to continue learning and developing. He works as hard as I’ve ever seen anyone work in football. Besides all of that he is a good man. A very loyal man.

“I didn’t know Gavin and Harry. I met Harry prior to taking the job and had a chat with him at my house down south.

“And I have to say, for a player who was world class in his pomp, the commitment he has to being here at Celtic and helping all our wingers, he is very good. And I think (former) players like him give you that bit of gold dust. He shares that with the players and he is good for our team and gives a different viewpoint.

“Gavin is an excellent coach, very diligent and has lovely human qualities. He is always there for the players. And obviously Jack Lyons. I brought in Jack as a really young, talented coach who is analytically brilliant. He can analyse and present that to players too.

“So the team is very good and that’s why I didn’t just single out Harry! The dynamics of it all make it work.”

Leicester’s loss would very definitely appear to be Celtic’s gain, with Rodgers clearly glowing in his appraisal of his analyst.

That said, the Foxes don’t seem to be doing too badly at all without him, so there’s an argument that, in fact, the Midlands-based side have ended up with the better of that particular arrangement.

In any event, with both teams top of their respective leagues, it’s a win all round at present.

As many as eight big names at Leicester City could reportedly be on their way out of the club in the not too distant future, according to a report from Football League World.

The Foxes are currently top of the Championship, making a strong start to life back in English football’s second tier after their relegation from the Premier League last season.

It might not be long before we see Leicester back in the top flight, but for now there’s serious doubt over a number of their biggest names.

According to the Football League World’s report, the right players facing uncertain futures are Jamie Vardy, Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi, Jannik Vestergaard, Marc Albrighton, Dennis Praet, Alex Smithies and Wanya Marcal.

A number of these players, such as Vestergaard, are coming towards the ends of their contracts, while others like Smithies and Marcal are not playing regularly, so might leave for more first-team football.

At present, Leicester City are continuing to ride high at the top of the Championship, and despite losing two games on the trot, they are still the team to beat.

Enso Maresca’s side have been flying, and much of that has to do with their rock-solid defence.

Their 10 goals conceded in 16 games is by far the best in the division, so it’s a fair bet that Wout Faes and Jannik Vestergaard – as well as their colleagues – are feeling rightly proud of themselves.

If they’re able to continue with the excellence they’ve displayed thus far in 2023/24, there’s a strong likelihood of promotion.

Given just how well the club have been playing, it’s a wonder that Vestergaard’s contract situation is being allowed to slide.

According to Capology, his contract is up at the end of June next year, however, there doesn’t appear to have been any movement from the club regarding a renewal.

“I don’t think there were very many people who believed four months ago that I would be in the situation I am in now, so I enjoy it,” the player was quoted as saying by Tipsbladet.

“At some point, something has to happen (with his contract), but it doesn’t matter to me.”

Aside from a suspension for racking up five yellow cards, Vestergaard has been an ever-present for the club this season, and at just 31 years of age, the towering Dane would still have an awful lot to offer the Foxes from next season and beyond, whether they’re in the Championship or Premier League.

Leicester City defender Jannik Vestergaard was linked with a move away from the club during the summer transfer window.

The experienced central defender had fallen down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium under previous manager Brendan Rodgers. However, he decided to stay at the club and he has now managed to fight his way back into the starting lineup under Enzo Maresca.

The Denmark international has been a key player for Leicester City this season, starting in 15 of their 16 league games. Leicester are currently on top of the Championship table and Vestergaard has been instrumental in their impressive start of the season. He will hope to help the Foxes return to the Premier League at the end of the season.

His impressive performances have earned him a recall to the Denmark squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Slovenia and Northern Ireland as well.

The player has now revealed that he turned down a big-money move to Saudi Arabia so that he can fight for his place at the English club, and the fans will certainly be delighted with his decision.

In an interview with Danish outlet Tipsbladet. He added: “All the decisions I have made in my career have been based on an idea of what was best for me in terms of sports.

“The initial period in Leicester didn’t go as I had hoped, but I believe my subsequent club choices have.

“It has always been with football in mind; I have never chosen based on finances, and I won’t in the future either. So, I will never take the money and run.”

Former Leicester City forward Ayoze Perez has made it clear just how happy he is again after leaving the club for Real Betis this season.

The Spaniard endured a difficult spell at the King Power Stadium, and it always seemed likely he could move on at the end of last season when the club were relegated from the Premier League to the Championship.

Isco is another player enjoying a new lease of life at Betis, and Perez has admitted he can relate to his new teammate.

He said: “It happened to me a bit the same, that’s why I stayed. I felt happy again playing football, I felt like a footballer again and that is priceless. I understand Isco perfectly.”

Leicester City have had an impressive start to the Championship campaign this season and many expect them to secure promotion back to the Premier League at the end of the season.

The Foxes have won 13 of their first 15 league fixtures this season, but they have recently crashed to a narrow defeat against Leeds United.

EFL pundit David Prutton claims that Leicester are not guaranteed to secure promotion just yet despite their impressive start.

It will be interesting to see if they can bounce back with a strong performance when they take on Middlesbrough at the weekend.

Prutton believes that there is a long way to go in the Championship and the Foxes will have to sustain their form if they want to return to the top flight.

He said: “A lot of the chatter about the game is that it was a plucky Leeds performance. Leeds fell out of the Premier League at the same time as Leicester City and their ambitions are exactly the same – to get back there as soon as possible.

“I think Leicester have been the standout performers this season but Leeds showed a way to beat them. Leicester have now lost two games, while Leeds have lost three, so it’s those fine margins of draws for Leeds that has created this gap, but there’s plenty of time.”

Despite a home defeat against Leeds United at the weekend, Enzo Maresca’s Leicester City side are still flying high at the top of the Championship table.

Though they have Ipswich Town just three points behind them, the gap between the Foxes and Daniel Farke’s Leeds in third is a cavernous 11 points.

It would take a monumental drop off in form and results for Leicester to be caught, however, with so much of the season to go, any loss of confidence could absolutely be capitalised on.

One way to keep things fresh and players on their toes is to bring in others, and that could be something that Maresca is considering for the January transfer window.

According to TeamTalk, Leicester are one of a handful of clubs – which includes Premier League outfits Burnley and Crystal Palace – to be keeping tabs on Villarreal hit-man, Ben Brereton Diaz.

It’s reported that the former Blackburn star hasn’t really settled at the Yellow Submarine since a summer switch, and the La Liga club would be willing to loan him in the new year in order that he’s able to pick up some significant game time.

With Leicester believed to want a replacement for Kelechi Iheanacho, a move for Brereton Diaz would appear to make perfect sense.

From the player’s perspective, helping to drive Leicester’s promotion charge would be an obvious attraction.

Along with West Ham and Brentford, Crystal Palace have reportedly joined the race to sign Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho on a free transfer at the end of the season.

That’s according to a recent report from TEAMtalk, who claims the Eagles are heading a three-horse race to sign the Foxes’ soon-to-be free agent.

Iheanacho, 27, has spent the majority of his career at the King Power – signing for the Foxes from Manchester City back in 2017, the Nigerian has featured in well over 200 games for the club.

However, with his contract set to expire next summer and the Championship side showing no signs of reaching an agreement over a renewal, there is a growing expectation that next season could see Iheanacho return to the Premier League, even if his current club do not.

And with Palace, West Ham and Brentford all in the mix to offer the 27-year-old a route out of Leicester, this summer certainly looks to be the time the Foxes’ number 14 moves in search of a new challenge.

Leicester City are battling to keep hold of Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho ahead of the January transfer window.

That is according to TEAMtalk, who reports that Leicester could be forced into letting the duo go if they cannot tie them down to fresh terms before then as their contracts expire at the end of the season.

This means the Foxes could lose them for free next summer, with January being the last chance to bring in a transfer fee for both stars.

TEAMtalk states that Ndidi is in demand with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid having enquired about the midfielder, while Lyon and Monaco are also keen to bring him to France. There is also interest from the Premier League with Tottenham, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Brentford amongst those who are considering a January move for the Leicester star.

Both Ndidi and Iheanacho are key players for Leicester and with their push for a return to the Premier League going great so far, the Foxes will not want to lose any player midway through the campaign as it could derail their promotion charge.
